* Chicken Parmesan 3/5 * Spaghetti Aglia Olio 2/5 * Carbonara 2.5/5 * Fusilli Alla Vodka 4/5 * Garlic Breed 2.5/5 - Fusilli Alla Vodka was the star! By far the best dish. Good thick pasta and a nice spicy sausage -Spaghetti Aglia Olio was just boring. Its like a side dish or a child's meal. - Carbonara was ok but the bacon was inedible.
We LOVE Grassa the noodles texture and taste is better than any of the noodles cuz their so fresh! I'm super sad they got don't have pizza pockets anymore those were my favorite! The chicken Parmesan, Spaghetti and Pork Rigatoni is my families favorite! The vibe inside is nice and relaxed! The waiters were nice!
Grassa is still our go to pasta place! They've definitely improved over the years since they've opened. Service has been fast and great!! Everyone is super friendly. There's now a lunch special that runs until 3pm including a spaghetti with meat balls, half size Cesar salad, and small drink.
Met youngest son at his apartment, so he can drive us to LO's Grassa for lunch, in his new IONIQ5 vehicle. I've done an event here one summer, just 200 feet away, and it brought good memories of that hot summer, and I can't believe we're having lunch here now. I was craving for another Risotto! Instead, I ordered the Spaghetti Aglio Olio (we had that from another Italian restaurant, and it's time to make comparisons). (I thought, I liked their meatballs here better, but son argued with me, and said he'll pick the other restaurant's version). Hubby ordered the same thing. Son ordered the Carbonara. We shared a serving of Roasted Beets. All three of us agreed it had too much horseradish! Next time: I'll try the Burrata. Honestly? I should have ordered extra to take home, for another meal another day, on the same order, but luckily, I have enough meal for lunch. Yes, they're meatballs were better, and craving for one as I typed. :)
Vibes and decor are amazing and trendy casual. Menu has a nice range, alcohol available. I like that it seems to be made-to-order food but quick bc it's pasta + food prep seems pretty quick. I asked specifically before ordering if I could be walking out in 20min, he said for sure depending on what I want. I got 2 pastas and calamari, and he confirmed timing was no worries. I wait, at 20min ask a diff staff and she said it should be out soon if that's what I was told. At 25min I ask the guy I ordered with about it and they hustle to hand over my takeout bag in less than 5 min. Pastas were ok but my issue is calamari seems like it was the bottom of the bowl leftover batch of someone else's order. There were only 10-15pieces, lukewarm, and soggy. So sad, maybe if someone else brings me here I'll try again.
Got our food to go, cause the ambiance here is kinda like a warehouse - cold and a bit cavernous, with a bunch of communal tables, but modern. Our order was great though; Fussili ala Vodka, spicy red sauce in a curly pasta with lovely chunks of pork shoulder and a perfectly dressed Caesar salad, anchovies and all. I realize the Fusilli is supposed to have some heat, but it's like the cap fell off the jar of chili flakes for my order! Holy....I still loved it, but I was sweating through the whole meal. Grassa has their counter service model down pat, and the meals come out fairly quick, fresh and hot, so thumbs up there. Service is up and down, depending on how slammed they are, but I give them a pass since they do do aLOT of takeout orders. Love that they have beer, wine and some cocktails. Order at the counter, have a seat and your food appears. Plenty of parking here, just not a very cozy experience if you're dining in.
My update of Grassa is overdue. My husband and I were disappointed in our first visit last year. We're glad we gave it another chance, and we have been going here regularly. The Rigatoni (5 stars) reminded me of my husband's family recipe, which was the reason we fell in love with Grassa seven years ago. It was yummy comfort food with tender pieces of pork. The Pork Belly Mac & Cheese (5 stars) tasted more like a creamy pasta rather than a mac and cheese to me. The flavorful pork belly was craveable and delicious on its own. The jalapeños were a nice surprise between bites, but it isn't overly spicy. The cornbread crumbs were a subtle garnish, and it was nice when the fine crumbs were incorporated in each bite. I usually alternate between the Rigatoni and Pork Belly Mac & Cheese. I have had better Carbonara (3 stars). My husband likes the Garlic Bread (3 stars) more than I do. The Love Me Forever (4 stars) was a refreshing vodka cocktail. The service was 4 stars. We haven't waited too long for our takeout orders or if we dine in. We enjoy going to Grassa when we have a pasta craving.
Ragu and garlic bread were very good. First time at this location. Plenty of parking. Plenty of seating. Staff was friendly and quick service
I've reviewed Grassa before, so this won't be a long review. Just have to say tonight I tried their current special, Chicken Parm Cannelloni. Omg! One of the best things I've eaten in a while. This is an all timer here at Grassa. They've had some other great ones, this one is equal to or better than all of them. Describing this will be difficult, but I'll try. Basically these are like Italian enchiladas with spicy chicken in a red sauce, with whipped ricotta on top. I really can't tell you how good this was. The rest of our food was awesome tonight! Great job!
I was hoping the food would come out a bit faster given that it's more of a "fast food" style pasta establishment. It took around 25 minutes after ordering for the dishes to be ready which is similar to many sit-down places. The pasta itself was good and a decently sized portion.
This definitely could have been better. Arrived and ordered calamari, pork belly mac and cheese, and carbonara, as well as half a bottle of Pinot Gris and half a bottle of Malbec. They put in the order and rang us up at the same time, and we paid with a credit card. It immediately took us to the total and asked us for a tip - 15%, 20%, or 22% I think. I was taken aback a bit, being asked for a tip before even sitting down in a restaurant. It is like an assembly line, so after paying for your food and drink, you are instructed to move down the counter to collect your drinks and are given a tall metal token with a number on it to place at your table so servers know where to take the food. Our drinks were brought out to the counter, but my husband, who had ordered a half bottle of Malbec, only got a glass. We told them, and he went back to the entry person, who corrected and adjusted the bill, and he needed to put in his credit card again to correct the order . . . so another $7 was added to his credit card, and in the process, he was asked to tip on the adjustment before the transaction was processed. We then took our wine and glasses to a table, but on the way, I noticed a counter with bins of flatware and a pile of napkins, so I got those for us. We like water with our meal, so we looked around and saw another counter with a water dispenser, glasses, and large bottles we could fill, and so I went and got us water. While dispensing the water in our glasses, I noticed a shelf down below that contained several shakers of salt, pepper, and red chili pepper flakes, which prompted me to consider that if we might want them, we needed to get them for ourselves. At this point, please keep in mind that there are no signs or indicators of any sort that this is all pretty much self-serve; in other words, it would have been nice to know this in advance. And in all honesty, maybe the people at the counter told us as we paid and advanced down the counter, but the restaurant was very loud and noisy and echoed, and the people spoke fast and didn't really enunciate. We were brought our meals fairly quickly, but I asked that we would have liked our calamari before, and they said that we hadn't ordered the calamari and that they could go back and add it, which we declined, so we could enjoy our meals. Our pasta dishes were tasty to a degree, but nothing like what we had expected. I'm always wary of ordering some pasta dishes because so often the pasta is mushy and not al dente. Both of our pasta dishes were overly al dente - mine in particular, it actually crunched when I bit into it. My husband's was so stiff that it couldn't even be twirled around his fork. (picture will be attached) Both of the sauces on our pasta dishes were very scarce, and I compared them with each other, and they seemed to be the same except for a slightly different flavor. There was also a taste of flour in both of the sauces. The bottom line here is that while the food was tasty enough, even though not like we expected, it was not a good value, as the price seemed to be high for us, and the food was subpar. They charge you as you order, requesting a tip at the same time (as well as there is a tip jar to tip the kitchen staff), and yet there is no service at all. And I guess what really insulted me is that when you are finished, you are expected to bus your table to an area in the restaurant in the far corner near the restrooms. We watched everyone near us busing their own tables before they left, including a family with 3 children and a baby, cleaning their own tables before they left. So, I'm sorry to say that these two senior citizens, who are trying to support local businesses, will not be back. Also, while both of our wines were good, the Malbec was chilled, but maybe that's how it's done in restaurants these days. I'm now glad that they forgot to add the calamari to our order, though the calamari was the main reason that we decided on this restaurant, as it's hard to find good calamari around here. We are recent residents here after living on the Oregon Coast, and are having fun trying all of the eateries available to us now! But here is the bottom line: it wasn't terrible, and I'd say to try it. It might be perfect for someone other than me. We did manage to have a good date night because after 43 years of marriage, we still enjoy each other's company!
I enjoy noodles. I would eat them daily if I could. The carbonara at Grassa is probably their best item IMO and they've been pretty consistent at all locations including this one. Their location at Mercato Grove is one of their newest I think. It's a big space. Maybe too big because it felt very empty on a Saturday primetime dinner time. It was also unfortunate that there were fruit flies everywhere, which made it difficult to eat or bring back leftovers. Need to work on their cleanliness or something. Same with the bathroom situation, just didn't feel cleanly. Likely won't go to this location again. read more

GRASSA $ - $$ My husband and I went to try grassa handmade pastas YEARS ago, and the line was out the door every time we went in downtown. Then, it was always on our list to try. When they opened up their new location in LO, by my work, I was like this is finally the time. CAESAR - very fresh and crisp. Very anchovie forward. Heavily dressed but still light? My husband absolutely love it. The croutons taste exactly like a crispy version of the garlic bread. GARLIC BREAD- So so good. Came with cheese melted on top which is always a nice addition. CALAMARI - Could go for a little crispier batter but had great flavor and the cala was not overcooked. Which can happen super easy with octopus. Tartar is good! Very "best foods" forward but in the best way, but has a bite to it to cut the richness. CARBONARA - Really rich. The noodles were al dente, maybe a drop too al dente. Noodles may be a little too thick for me with this specific dish, since everything was all very thick and creamy it came off a little gummy in texture. Want to try these noods with a red sauce next. Not too overpowering with any one flavor in the dish. Many carbs are way too bacon-y, but this one wasn't. Bacon was thick cut and really good. I think perhaps a sprinkle of a salty parm on top would be really good. Since it's such a rich dish. RIGATONI - My personal fave. It had cubed pork meat that wasn't fatty or greasy at all. They are smaller rig noodles, but cooked very well. The sauce tastes like a pure tomato sauce that was balanced and not too acidic and very bright. Really good DRANKS: On tap hazy (They don't have a full bar, so if you want hard alc you have to get one of their cocktails.) I got a drink with gin, grenadine, and lemon and it was good & pink! Overall, felt that it was pretty reasonable for the size and quality of each dish. Came out to almost $75 for the entire meal but we had a little leftovers and you pay for the quality of each dish imo. Def going to go back and try some more read more

Ridiculous amount of raw garlic in my tagliatelle bolognese. Raw anything does not belong in this dish. read more
So my first experience here was amazing. Like, the food was over the top fantastic. So when I was craving some good pasta on the quick this weekend, I thought, "I know! I'll order Grassa again!" Well, sadly my experience was pretty lackluster at best. I ordered the exact same things I ordered the first time, the Carbonara and the Pork Belly Mac & Cheese. And whereas the first time they were bursting with flavor in every bite, this time they were, dry, over cooked and super bland. No real flavor at all. I also ordered the Chicken Parmesan with some Pasta Marinara, and sadly the Chicken Parm did not arrive but instead another box showed up with only a few tiny raviolis in it. I'm talking kid size (see pic). It wasn't terrible, but definitely not what I ordered. The odd thing was "CHX" was written on the outside of the box, so someone obviously dropped the ball somewhere. I'm not sure if it was Grassa or DoorDash, so I'm not deducting any stars for that particular issue, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Nonetheless, for what I paid for the meal, and what I had experienced in the past, I expected a lot more. I would say this was a 2-star experience. So I'll average the two and give them 3 stars. But I don't know if I'll go back anytime soon. read more
The dishes that we tried were the Carbonara & the Pork belly Mac & Cheese (our fav!) the people were great, offered awesome suggestions. Also should try the blackberry soda! Also the burrata dish was well put together as well. Ambiance was laid back, casual setting. Great for family or even a date. read more

We had a pretty good meal here with some quick and friendly service. We ordered a bunch of items to share - Cacio E Pepe (add pancetta), Rigatoni, and Carbonara were delicious. The chopped salad had a bit too much dressing for me and the bbq pork belly on the Mac n cheese was a bit too sweet for me. The fried Brussel sprouts and meatballs were a good appetizer. read more

I finally got out to the new Grassa in Lake Oswego. While I did enjoy the meal, there was a few things that bothered me. One was that the meal was warm outside but lukewarm inside, and the pasta kind of stuck together. Like when you boil pasta then drain it and put it back in the pot, let it sit too long, and it firms up into the shape of the pot. Meh. The other thing was that they have large garbages right by the outdoor seating, so I was being accosted by flies during my entire meal. I did appreciate their wine menu, and the flavors of my food were quite good. read more

Came here for lunch on a week day, no line or anything and we grabbed a table outside. It didn't take too long to get our food, and everything was delicious. My friend got the spaghetti pesto and I got the carbonara. We also got brussel sprouts and garlic bread. The garlic bread was great and was 2 good sized half loaves of bread with cheese. Yum! I will say- like another reviewer has said, the pasta (at least my carbonara) was salty. Not too salty like I wanted to take it back- but salty enough that I couldn't finish my plate and was drinking quite a bit of water. I will definitely be back, but I will try something else instead of the carbonara to see if it was possibly just that dish that is a tad salty. read more

A sure choice for excellent Italian noodles Casual counter service, easy to grab seating. The menu offers a good variety of noodles and several vegetarian options, all reasonably priced and with good portions. Everyone at our table enjoyed the house pinot noir and loved the burrata. The carbonara was wonderfully rich and the New Haven clam pasta was exceptional. If you're looking for great pasta, this is a must-try! read more

This wouldn't be my top pick for a past place, but it's a nice option. When my friends and I went, they were out of their pork belly pasta dish. Instead, I opted to have the meatballs, wedge salad, and carbonara. The carbonara was good and rich. But the noodles were a tad bit over and I feel like the sauce may have broken since it was a little clumpy. The meatballs were definitely delicious but mine were a little dry but the marinara assisted with that. read more

Seems like maybe this location had a bit of a rough start. I still think they are probably understaffed, as with most places these days. I initially noticed many tables not wiped down. The food itself was tasty though. The Caesar salad was clean, fresh, and well done. I'll ask for no anchovies next time though. The rigatoni was excellent. Noodles cooked perfectly al dente, and a tasty pork Ragu. I thought portion was actually pretty decently-sized. Definitely a strong option for good fast casual food. I'm glad to have a location here in LO and look forward to my next visit to try other dishes as well. read more
