There is plenty of seating inside and there is outdoor seating. We sat indoors because we noticed the bees around the outside tables. The staff were friendly, and the inside was clean and neat. We noticed that when the customers left the table after eating a staff member immediately clean the table. The food is pretty good but they're delivery is all over the place, which is primarily how I get food from here. They're constantly cancelling orders halfway through the wait time with no explanation. Once, a delivery driver gave me the wrong food and someone from the store who said they were a manager tried to convince me to switch orders with the person they gave my food to... which I'm pretty sure is against the health code? It makes me hesitant to put in an order with them because when I order delivery, it's because Im too busy to worry about cooking etc at the moment and having to worry if they're going to cancel etc is not helpful. Anyway, love their food, wish they'd deliver it when and how they say they will. It's just about the only place to get really healthy food in Tarrytown Village. I've eaten there 3 times. First, I had the breakfast bowl which is fantastic! Really fantastic. It's filling, plentiful, delicious and good value for money. I had the tofu scramble this week and although it was tasty it had a lot and I mean a lot of onions in it which i don't care for (I picked them out). I had the chicken burrito a few months ago and that was also very good and decent value. Some people think it's expensive but you get good healthy filling food that's not garbage unlike McDonald's which is literally right next door to this wonderful Grassroots Kitchen. There is plenty of parking here because the place is located inside a plaza. Inside was a bit cold. It is a casual eatery where you order at a counter. The food gets brought out to you. I came here for breakfast and was happy with the number of breakfast items they had on their menu. They had both sweet and savory options. You can order ahead online or you can order delivery! I tried the avocado toast and my brother had the breakfast burrito. Though this place is advertised as vegan, this doesn't mean that every menu item is vegan. I noticed a menu item that had salmon in it. My avocado toast had beans and pico de gallo on it. I liked that it was topped with an egg. I would have loved for the pico de gallo to have more garlic or more of a punch. There was also very little of it. The breakfast burrito had scrambled eggs, refried beans, avocado, pico de gallo, and queso fresco. The avocado was the perfect ripeness. I like that they sell coffee from a local coffee roaster. I thought that both the breakfast burrito and toast were good but not something spectacular or surprising. The vegetarian/vegan options all sound tasty, and everything from the breakfast food (acai bowl...yum) to the sandwiches look fresh, clean. The Korean BBQ wrap was amazing. I didn't get the sense that it was a popular item, but it is a must-try. The aioli sauce was incredible. The downside: $3.50 for a tiny plastic cup of burnt pieces of I-don't-know-what?! Freshness factor coming in strong. For health food, this is some tasty stuff. Grass Roots Kitchen is a great option for health conscious eaters with vegan options. We had the Buckwheat Blueberry Pancakes, the Acai Bowl, an Egg Biscuit, a coffee and a Berry Nice Smoothie. The sandwich was no frills, but delicious and very filling. My teen had the bowl and enjoyed it. My youngest had the pancakes and smoothie and ate all of the pancakes but left the smoothie on the table (an $8 loss). He said the smoothie tasted like vegetables, it didn't, and I totally would have finished it. Everything was very fresh and it was obvious that sustainability was important to the establishment. There was no air conditioning, so it was a little balmy but the atmosphere was comfortable. There is also plenty of outdoor seating. I would like to see a sprig of parsley or a slice of fruit for color on the breakfast plate to keep my lonely biscuit company. read more

I went to lunch and it seemed like they updated their menu since I've been gone, so that was a fun surprise. Service was very quick. I got the salmon entree bowl and I loved it! Tried this place for the first time with friends. I got the Mediterranean Chicken Bowl. I wasn't expecting it to taste amazing but the chicken was flavorful and moist. Veggies and farro were cooked perfect. My only gripe is that I wish I had gotten a little more for something that's $17 (though probably on par for the area). Service was really quick considering how busy it was. Staff was extremely efficient and friendly. I'd definitely go back to try something else again. read more

The jalapeño cheese biscuit is stupidly good! Wow! The egg roll sandwich (added bacon) was spot on. Not overly complicated. Fresh soft roll, simple fried egg and tasty NY cheddar. Smoothies and juices are excellent. We ordered lunch to go for later - have not tasted it yet but just know the lunch bowls will be great based on two visits for breakfast during our out of town visits to the area. Grass Roots Kitchen covers all the bases and it's one of the highest rated and a super creative spot (in my opinion) for a solid bite. While it isn't Vegan or Vegetarian-only (a big chunk is that), it does have options for meat eaters too. Roots is another excellent addition to Tarrytown. It's located in an unlikely spot and away from the main drag. To (somehow) give you a better idea on location, once you head towards the water on Wildey St, Mickey Ds sticks out like a lump on a log in a shopping plaza- and right behind it, is Roots. Space is woodsy with an interesting botanical mural and lots of seating. I'm not sure about the process, but I just pulled up to the counter, picked an item and paid- then meal is brought over. Maybe I was eating it all wrong. But my Falafel Burger (no Tahini as requested), tasted just as good and identical to an Egyptian hole-in-the-wall by St. Marks Pl.- I used to go to back in the late 80s. My Lemonade- whether freshly squeezed or not- was very good. Plus service- was friendly! Based on my one flavorful meal, it's a keeper. We are trying to eat more plant-based foods and have been blown away by the food at Grass Roots! My favorite is the mushroom po boy sandwich (wow!) and my husband's is the vegan pulled pork sandwich. We're confused and sad. Being plant-based whole-food eaters, we were THRILLED to find this place in Westchester. The first several times we ate there (Spring 2024), we were THRILLED. The food, vibe, and service was great. We brought friends and family to join the delicious experience. The last several times any of us have gone there (since November, 2024), it's extremely hit or miss. If you happen to be a carnivore, there are plenty of items to choose from at Grass Roots Kitchen as well. It's more like a take out deli-style place that's casual with some regular tables and high tops. Not a waiter-service kinda place. Open kitchen, chalkboard menus and a "help-yourself-to-utensils" area. I had the carrot ginger soup and a beet burger with a side of root veggie fries. Loved all of it. Soup was perfectly flavorful and balanced. The beet burger was really tasty - even the vegan cheese on it was quite good. While tasty, the consistency might not be for everyone; it's a bit mushy (which didn't bother me at all). The fried root vegetables were terrific - not super crunchy but delicious. My companion had a salad and a "ruby" (that they compared this sandwich to a reuben but it was a vegetarian version). While he's not a vegetarian, he really enjoyed the flavors of the sandwich and raved about his salad. He did say that comparing the contents to pastrami was "pushing it", but he still loved it. We came across this restaurant THIS MORNING in search of vegan breakfast! After checking out the pictures and being impressed by the menu, we decided to go! We ended up finding out that Grass Roots Kitchen is @Sweet_Grass_Grill 's sister restaurant. We are HUGE fans of Sweet Grass Grill already so we definitely had high expectations! We were so excited to try the vegan egg sandwich and the blueberry pancakes! The winter soup also sounded really delicious to us so we split that along with the pancakes. First, the egg sandwiches came out and it was "love at first bite!" We couldn't believe how soft and flaky the house made bread was. The "egg" seemed to have been made of tofu for the white of the egg and they even created up their own yolk! We are not quite sure how they made such a realistic egg but it was AMAZING. The shiitake bacon pieces added a nice crunchy texture and salty flavor to balance out the creaminess off the egg and avocado! A customer next to us recommended we add some of their vegan basil pesto mayo on the sandwich and that was a GAME CHANGER! The pancakes and soup followed immediately after. And may I add in- everything came out SUPER quick! The soup was hearty. It contained carrots, farro, parsnip and potato! It was one of the best soups we have ever had. Creamy and cooked to perfection! The pancakes were 2 medium sized blueberry pancakes freshly made. They were really nice and the blueberries were fresh! The Vermont maple syrup went beautifully with the pancakes. At this point, we were STUFFED! But we could NOT get enough of that egg sandwich ....So of course we got another The second time around was just as INSANE as the first! First time at a place called "Grass Roots Kitchen", so I was compelled to order their signature Root Burger and Root Fries. The fries were a 5 and came with beet ketchup which was also a 5. The beet Burger was nice, but I would have preferred a Miyoko smoked mozzarella cheese (or really any of her cheese) over the Daiya Swiss that came with it. Excellent atmosphere and decor. By now these folks may think I'm weird, and that's okay!! After a bumpy arrival of my 30 day stay in Tarrytown from CA, I just found some home in this place. My goal, when I eat meat is to only eat free-range or grass-fed. One thing that helps me through stress is eating a burger, LOL! So I did a search for grass fed beef and found this place! In addition I'm gluten-free, so the gluten-free pancakes are also amazing. The other thing that's really important to me is staff. The problem I find is that there's no sense that they know what they're doing once it get a little busy. If it's half full I'd avoid this place if you're in any kind of schedule. Servers will deliver one item at a time when it would be possible & more efficient to deliver the whole order. This takes training and a manager on site. There didn't seem to be any one in charge. When there's a reason for a delay, a simple explanation and an apology would be nice. After waiting 1/2 hour I allotted about our order. I was told not to worry it's coming. It hadn't been started. You can tell this is going to be good the minute you walk in. It is clean and has a good vibe to it. They have a lot of options so you will find something you are craving. My go to was the chicken salad and it was delicious. Chicken salad could be bland but not here. The bread perfectly complimented the sandwich and it worked! The buffalo cauliflower was also delicious. Not greasy at all and had the right amount of crunch. The beets were fresh and had good flavor. The prices are right around what you would expect but the quality is there. So good. I don't spend a lot of time in Tarrytown but this is an awesome place. Would definitely come back. I'm here probably 4-5 times a month with co-workers because it has become a go-to option for us. Great vegan and vegetarian options. I'm neither and I still find myself here frequently. The Ruby (a celeriac "pastrami" sandwich with kraut and Russian dressing served on multi-grain bread) is done incredibly well and is way more satisfying than one would expect. As a bonus, it's also really aesthetically pleasing so it'll look nice on your Instagram. Their Fried Chicken Biscuit is one of my favorite things to order there. The biscuit that the fried chicken is served on is incredibly soft with the right kind of crumbly. The Russian dressing and slaw is a perfect contrast for the savory and flavorful chicken. The Falafel Burger comes with tahini sauce, lettuce, pickles, and red onions served on a potato bun. I've tried many falafel places in the city and most of them overdo it with the breading and the falafel is way too dry. Grass Roots does it just fine. Great substitution for meat. Their Thai Kale Salad is a great option as well, especially with a side of Shiitake "Bacon" thrown on top as a side. First time I've ever had a tempeh crouton -- definitely worth a try. I cannot recall which of the beef burgers I've had, but they were all deliciously prepared. Literally zero complaints about this place. Also, their french fries look and taste like McDonald's fries. Can't beat that! Probably a tad healthier too. If you don't want traditional fries, go for their root fries (had never heard of them until I ordered them here). read more
