Stopped here on our way back to Portland and again they did not fail! Staff is helpful and friendly. The rooms are comfortable and quiet, a great rest while on the road! We travel with our dogs and it's tuff to find decently priced, well kept places to stay that allow pets. We were looking at pet friendly hotels in the Sacramento area on our way there. While Steff was booking the app indicated the room was no longer available. We were at the Williams exit and I went over to Granzella's to see if they had a pet friendly room available and they did. When I found the room price was only about $15.00 more than the other hotel I was pleasantly surprised and booked immediately. The hostess was very nice and helpful and we love the room! Clean and very nice Granzella's is a class act and they do everything with a smile and a kind word without charging an arm and a leg for it!!

We needed a place for an overnight stop and Granzella's in Williams came up as alternative to the Holiday Inn Express (HIE) in Willows. We chose Granzella's for three reasons: the price was right ($80/night for our stay), the convenience of having a restaurant / deli owned by them across the parking lot for dinner after a long driving day and Yelp reviews were good. There were some hits and misses here. Bottom line is for this low price and for a one night stay we'd recommend it to others. This is owner operated place with pride of ownership evident. But enough awkward elements as misses that next time we'd choose the HIE instead. Here are the details: ROOMS: Clean, small rooms and comfortable beds, although the bathroom was awkward with a door that barely cleared the commode. Which my husband pointed out was a small, round front commode. (Guys notice these things. ;-) ). STAFF: The people at the Inn are friendly, although you may find yourself placed on hold for very long periods when you make reservations as they seem to have but one person answering phones and checking in customers. NO ELEVATOR: Here's an important note for folks who cannot navigate stairs, this property, although relatively new and with majority of rooms upstairs, does not have an elevator. The best rooms for privacy and quiet are on the second floor, so be prepared to lug luggage upstairs if you can climb stairs. There are about 18 stairs in total. If there is a good news about this, the stairs are inside not outdoors. BE VIGILANT ABOUT FIRST FLOOR RESERVATIONS IF YOU CAN'T CLIMB STAIRS: When I made reservations, over a month in advance of our trip, I was specific that I could not navigate stairs. I said I didn't need an ADA accessible room (they have just 1 of them I am told), I just cannot walk up more than a couple of stairs due to MS related mobility issues. I was told the hotel policy is they do not guarantee first floor rooms given they are apparently in high demand and short supply (seems few want to haul luggage or navigate small children up all those stairs) but they would be certain one was assigned for us given the reason. I thanked them and said were they not able to guarantee first floor I would stay at the Holiday Inn Express where elevator was available. No problem, I was assured. To be absolutely certain this happened, the day before our arrival my husband called to ensure we had a first floor room assigned. He was assured we did. On check in, when it was pretty clear as I walked up to the front desk that hiking up a flight of stairs wasn't going to happen, the woman at the desk said she was surprised to find (as were we) that we had been put in a second floor room. Hmmm. Or arrrrggghhh. Then she did the work of scrambling things up to find us a first floor room for the night...while the phone rang off the hook and she had to ignore it as she was the only staff on duty. I share this to reinforce for folks who MUST have first floor rooms, you'll need to be vigilant about that assignment here. And for people trying to call for reservations, if you don't get an answer this kind of minimal staffing issue is why. RESTAURANT ACROSS PARKING LOT: We received a discount coupon for food at their restaurant or deli when we checked in. You can eat well enough there if you choose carefully. We'd recommend eating in the bar for friendlier service as long as the abundant taxidermy on walls and standing about doesn't trouble you. The deli is good and the convenience store has a host of options for take out if you'd rather do that. Try the gelateria in the deli - good gelato! CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST: Considering the restaurant across the parking lot, I was surprised they offered a continental breakfast on prem. The breakfast room is impossibly cramped, so not a pleasant place. We're pretty happy with a banana and yogurt in the morning, so that worked for us to grab and go. But I was tempted to make a second visit to deli's gelato bar for breakfast take away. Seriously.

Too bad this place has gone so far downhill. We'd stayed here a few years ago because they had a good pet policy so we booked it again in January. Mistake. To start things off, the young woman at the front desk had a piss-poor attitude and refused to wear her mask properly. Strike one. The condition of the room was also shockingly bad. The AC unit didn't function properly so we couldn't get the temp right as it kept shutting off. The room also had worn out sheets, a dirty toilet seat, a cracked sink, bad shower caulking, and pubic hair stuck to the shower tile. Strike two. To top it all off, the water was lukewarm, so no hot water the night we checked in nor the morning of departure. Nothing like a lukewarm shower on a freezing January day. Strike three. We won't be back.

The town of Williams may be small, but it has several solid restaurant options along with fast food and pizza spots--and even DoorDash delivers right to the hotel, which is a nice bonus after a long day of driving. The hotel itself has been fully renovated, and it really shows. You can tell the ownership genuinely cares about both the property and their guests. Everything feels clean, updated, and well maintained. Amenities are excellent for a stopover or short stay. There's a swimming pool, a grill for cooking, and even a small gym. Parking is plentiful, and most of the time you can park right outside your room, which is great if you're traveling with a car full of belongings or just want peace of mind. In the morning, they offer a basic continental breakfast with hard-boiled eggs, cereal, milk, orange juice, coffee, hot chocolate, muffins, danishes, and yogurt. There's no indoor dining area, but you can easily take it back to your room or enjoy it by the pool. The rooms are well stocked with soap, shampoo/conditioner, lotion, and a shower cap, and I really appreciated the extra space heater in addition to the standard AC/heater wall unit--such a thoughtful touch. The internet is free and good signal. Pro tip: Book directly through the hotel's website. It's cheaper than Booking.com or Hotels.com (I saved $8), and the price difference more than makes up for any points you might earn elsewhere. It's also cheaper than walking in to book, and they do fill up quickly--when we checked in, only a couple of rooms were left. I've been very happy with both of my stays and will absolutely continue stopping here on future trips. Highly recommended!

There aren't many hotel options in Oroville, and this is definitely one of the two nicer choices in town (along with the Holiday Inn). That said, I do think the typical rate of about $135-$150 per night feels a bit high for what you get. However, staying in Oroville itself can be very convenient depending on why you're visiting, so sometimes the location justifies the price. One big plus is that the hotel feels safe. The rooms are interior-entry only, and you need your room key to access the building. When I arrived, the front desk staff buzzed me in. The staff throughout my stay were extremely friendly, polite, and helpful. The property itself is very clean and well maintained. The rooms, corridors, parking lot, and hotel grounds were all in excellent shape. There is some overgrown land next to the property where you may see a few homeless individuals nearby, but they kept to themselves and did not bother anyone during my stay. There are several food options within walking distance if you're comfortable walking across parking lots and nearby roads. Right in front of the hotel are Panda Express and Starbucks, with Sonic just beyond that. Across the main road there's also a McDonald's, an ARCO AMPM gas station and mini-market, a Maverik travel stop, and Dutch Bros Coffee. One small tip: the driveway entrance to the hotel is easy to miss because the sign is very small and the turn comes up quickly, so keep an eye out when approaching. Parking is plentiful, but there is a $5 parking fee per vehicle, which felt unnecessary given the size of the lot and the room price. The complimentary breakfast from 6-10 AM was convenient and appreciated. During my stay they offered eggs (plain and cheese omelets), sausage, potatoes, cereals, oatmeal, fruit, and pastries. Coffee and hot water were also available in the lobby at all times, which was very nice. My main downside was the mattress in my room, which had a noticeable lump in the middle and sloped slightly on one side. The TV remote was also a bit confusing to use at first because the volume and channel controls are narrow bars rather than traditional +/- buttons. This next thing is really no fault of the hotel, but it does seem that there are a lot of contracted personnel (state or county?) who arrived later in the day after I got there. I know from past experience, sometimes different county or states or companies will contract with a certain hotel company to house their employees when they are on a job site. It seemed every single one of them had a large white work truck parked in the lot. Of course, these trucks take up a lot of room and barely fit into the parking spot - which then encroaches onto your parking spot so it doesn't leave a lot of room to get in and out of. I know it's not the hotel's fault where these people park, but I really wish that there is a way to make sure that all these trucks park in the back away from the main lot. So just fair warning if you're somebody that plans to use their car in the evening; you might have a hard time getting into the car if these workers happen to stay during your stay. Overall, this is a clean, safe, convenient hotel with very friendly staff and easy access to nearby food. If you specifically need to stay in Oroville, it's a solid choice. If rates are high and you don't mind driving a bit farther, you may find better value in nearby Chico, Marysville, or Yuba City.
