My stay at the Rumsey House was great! I rented out the entire house the night before my wedding for my bridesmaids and I to get ready before we headed to the venue. Camilla was so awesome and welcoming. The home had so many amazing places and the room was perfect for all us girls, there were 7 of us. The breakfast she made was delicious and perfect. I will highly recommend the Rumsey House and will stay there again!

TL;DR: Rumsey House was an Inn-ferno with horrendous hospitality. The Innkeeper double booked our room so we agreed to make do on folding beds. Unfortunately, the advertised "air conditioning" consisted of poorly functioning wall units and our group of four were forced to leave the property in the middle of the night when the power went out (apparently a common occurrence) and the temperature in our room climbed from 90 degrees (with AC and fans on!) to +100. We were originally a party of six and the two that made it through the night reported that the power and water were out through the entire stay. We expected an apology (and maybe a refund) from the Innkeeper, but instead received a torrent of personal attacks, defensive denials, and failure to take responsibility. I'll let the email exchange speak for itself in the screenshots to demonstrate how poorly she handled the situation. (And to save her the time of refuting this review as she did all the others with false claims that there was no record of the guest or they don't have a cobweb, cat, or cleanliness problem, because oh yes, they sure do!) Extreme heat and questionable cleanliness may be tolerable for some guests at this price point, but the Innkeeper's reaction is reason alone to avoid Rumsey House at all costs. Pay attention to the one star reviews. read more

Our favorite sanctuary when we wish to get away from city living. Every year we make it a point to make this our annual outing. With the windows open, a cool breeze at night makes it relaxing to fall asleep to. In the morning you wake up to nature's beauty of humming birds, birds, chickens, ducks, and more which sweetens my life as I am reminded of my summers reading books such as A Girl of the Limberlost or Anne of Avonlea. Our room is cozy with an attached comfort room (restroom). A window seat with a great view overlooking mountains and the lush property. Our host has always been accommodating and wonderful. Breakfast is another special treat! Last occasion there was coffee cake and fresh picked eggs. Today we enjoyed a delicious salad made of local tomatoes, avocado, cilantro, & home harvested pine nuts, fresh picked eggs and cheese, and a peach clafouti. We've been to many bed and breakfasts and the Rumsey House has always been one that we make most of our greatest lasting memories with. read more
If you can appreciate fresh walnuts, lovely hills, and country scenery, the Rumsey property is excellent. My daughter wanted more than just a fancy restaurant to celebrate her marriage with the immediate family the weekend after her civil ceremony, and since she had already decided to go away to a bed and breakfast for her short honeymoon, the idea of a "Breakfast at Tiffany's" theme emerged. In my search, I came across the Rumsey House and was thrilled that a) if we rented all 3 rooms, we could enjoy the house to ourselves; and b) when I inquired about the idea of a Wedding breakfast celebration, Camilla was open to the idea. The newleweds had the Moon room, me and my husband had the sun room, which had great windows overlooking the beautiful scenery and Maid of Honor and Bride's maid had the bottom room, which had a nice added touch of a bathtub. All 3 rooms had their own bathroom with a shower. The day of the family wedding celebration, Camilla was so gracious with the spilled OJ by 2 kids and a broken glass, my husband who clumsily hit a picture along the stairway and shattered a framed picture glass, and a 18 month old who was not feeling well and even almost passed out from crying (Oh Dear), but she handled all of that with quiet nerves. That absolutely made up for the fact that the Breakfast menu I had requested for my family, who are very picky eaters, of French toast, eggs, bacon/sausage was instead a breakfast of eggs with dices of chicken, fruit with yogurt and a walnut sweet potato mix. Having paid 15.00 extra for 6 non-lodging guests, I had hoped for my special request, but again, our overall stay was so great as was Camilla, I couldn't give this rating less than a 4 star. Overall, we had a great time celebrating and even if Juggernaut the cat had to be in the family picture photos, we wouldn't have had it any other way. read more
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time staying with Camilla at her beautiful place in the Capay Valley. The valley itself is a hidden gem -- there's beautiful vistas, a great stream, and a lot of privacy once you drive past the Cache Creek casino. We both wanted to explore the area more. Camilla's place is beautiful, comfortable, and feels very homey. She made an amazing breakfast and gave us great ideas about where to explore in the valley. It was a warm day and we spent the afternoon reading in the super comfortable chairs hanging outside. So if you're looking to get away and turn off your city vibe for awhile, I can't recommend this place more. read more

My husband found the Rumsey house when Cache Creek Casino was completely booked and I am really glad they were. It was so nice to get away to a beautiful home on really lovely grounds even just for an evening. Camilla is the owner. She was very hospitable. We arrived and she had yummy snacks waiting for us. The room was large, bright and had it's own bathroom. In the morning, Camilla made us a great hot breakfast and we ate on the nice deck. It was so peaceful there! I will definitely be back. read more

Where to start...? Camilla, thank you for your incredible hospitality. It was as if we'd known you for years. You welcomed my wife and me into Rumsey House and let us live there for three days. You welcomed us, cooked for us, joined us for a late glass of wine and storytelling, and shared your wonderful country inn with us. Rumsey House is a quiet respite in the Capay Valley for the weary business person who needs to be reminded to stay close to the earth. At every opportunity, Camilla and Rumsey House connect you to your surroundings, offering fresh eggs from the chicken coop, berries and dried fruits from the yard mingled with hot oatmeal in the morning, and herbs and wild lettuce. There's a gentle breeze of true living running through the place. It's ideal for independent-minded travelers who want to make their short stay a memorable one. There are a pair ducks roaming through the vintage orchard, at least a dozen hummingbirds vying for position just off the south porch, and hawks overhead, claiming their territory. The house is modern, open and spacious, with entrances and exits leading out to the wraparound porch. There are books everywhere, and multiple, comfortable places to hide away and read them. There's so much more that we could say, but we'll save that for our next review when we return to Rumsey House. read more

Made my reservation late and everything worked out perfectly. Spent Valentines day here with my wife and 8 month old daughter, plus our dog. We had a fantastic evening and a lovely breakfast of fresh eggs from the chickens, herbs from the garden and Camilla our wonderful host even considered my allergy i had mentioned the night before. The 18th century farm house is gorgeously decorated and the sounds of the countryside serenaded us to sleep (frogs{lovely}). We'll definitely be back. read more

My family and I had a terrific time staying at the inn. If you'd like to visit the little piece of heaven where some of the best farmers market bounty comes from, then check out this cute little B&B. The rooms were beautifully set up, including little lofts that the kids could climb into to sleep. Camilla made us very comfortable inside and out. Exploring the area was an adventure. Camilla is a nature and science lover and pointed us to great trails we could do with the kids, showing us the trees and animals that we could in the local area. She also showed us a great hike up to an alpine spring that we could swim in. There was kayaking close by, which we would like to try the next time we come to stay. It would also be a great place to bike. The Capay valley is a great area to explore. The Cache Creek Inn is a great base to do it from. I highly recommend it! read more

In late February, we visited gorgeous Capay Valley for the annual Almond Blossom Festival. We were delighted by the old time food and festivities, but more importantly, the genuinely nice people we met from the area. By far, our most pleasant memories of this trip were from our two night stay at the Rumsey House. The owner, Camilla, graciously welcomed us upon our arrival and offered us a slice of homemade "Spider Bread": a creamy, custardy, corn meal nirvana, sans the spiders. We knew we were home. We felt very special when we later found out Camilla was the chair of the valley long festival, yet made sure we had a proper welcome. The Rumsey House is built and richly decorated in a classic Arts and Crafts/Mission Style. The three bedrooms are spacious and the bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in, away from home. A sweet breeze wafts through the gauzy windows at night, ensuring a pleasant sleep. We stayed in the room on the bottom floor, which includes a cat door. We welcomed one of the farm cats into our room, who snuggled with us at the foot of our bed. I'm sure the cat door can be closed for those of you who are feline fearful. We spent each lovely evening sitting by the enormous fireplace, chatting with other guests over wine and cheese we brought with us. Camilla joined our little party and kindly supplemented the wine and cheese with the most delicious home grown and shelled walnuts from the Rumsey orchard, coupled with amazing raisins from a local farmers market. The farm style breakfasts were scrumptious; served at a large farmhouse table and enjoyed with the friends we had met each previous night. We all noshed and chatted over eggs to order and a variety of fruits and dishes crafted from locally sourced food. If you've ever seen the movie, "Julie/Julia", you'll understand when I say Yum!. If you haven't seen the movie, watch it. You will thank me. We spent our last hours at the Rumsey House, sitting on the veranda and watching song birds with Camilla. She recommended several "off the beaten path" places to stop on our way home. We made it to several of them, including a lavender farm and an organic farm which raises grass-fed livestock. We couldn't be more pleased with our experiences that day. If you like cramped rooms, over-priced room service and pretentious staff, stay at the casino down the road. On the other hand, stay at the Rumsey House if you enjoy taking your shoes off and sipping wine with new friends on the veranda with a background symphony of frogs and crickets or watching Earth wake up with butterflies, hummingbirds and chickens right outside your door. The Rumsey House will soothe your urban soul. Thank you, Camilla. We treasured our stay with you and will be back soon. p.s. I would have found the previous reviewer's experience humorous and endearing; a fun story to share with family and friends. I guess it's all about personal perspective. read more

Backstory: Friend is getting married, best man plans 8 man trip to Rumsey for a weekend long trip, chooses Rumsey House to stay in.... Pulling in I was excited for the weekend. I was going to be with the guys for the weekend and was ready for a good time. The house looked great, beautiful little country home with a great lawn area and hot tub. I walked into the house after a 2 hour drive and was greeted by the guys who had already got settled in. Being the sober one for the weekend I was worried how the house would hold up (7 drunk 20 something year olds and one sober 1 makes for a lot of work for me). As I stepped in I was greeted by the owner, Camilla, who was a sweet woman who was instantly welcoming. I felt comfortable instantly and loved the first impression I got. I did a quick tour of the huge house and loved it. Nice cozy vibe with tons of space for us to set up and enjoy the trip. We brought a huge flat screen tv and poker set and we had plenty of room in the kitchen to all play cards then transfer to the living room for some throwback Nintendo (Nostalgic trip). We were able to play washers on the lawn, walk down to the river during the middle of the day, and barbecue food until we couldnt eat anymore. I can not stress enough how much space there is here! Camilla is an absolute wonderful woman. The breakfast's she made for us each morning were delicious and absolutely solved the hangover that the Groom was hit with. He walked into the kitchen the first morning looking like a ghost and left it with full color in his face and ready to get the party re-started. As the sober one my fear was that I would be cleaning all weekend and this was not the case. Camilla was wonderful to us, letting us clean as we went but if we left something undone she solved it gracefully for us. We all had great conversations with her about our careers, her lovely home, and the country life of the area. All in all when the weekend was done us guys were already talking about making a return trip each year just because of the fun we had. It was an amazing experience and this woman deserves a medal. Her house is perfectly located far enough out to be secluded but also allows you an easy enough drive to restock on anything you need and she provided anything we needed to enjoy our trip. Camilla, if you read this, thank you again for your wonderful hospitality and your inviting attitude. I hope that business goes well for you and that we can visit you and your home again someday. read more

Run away - very disappointing experience. Since our stay in December 2016, we had mentioned the Rumsey House to several of our couples friends as a fun weekend getaway. And because the owner advertises accommodations for camping, we made reservations weeks ago to stay in her Sun Room and our friends reserved a campsite for their Tear-drop trailer. We were planning on enjoying the best of both worlds: a camp dinner and a gourmet breakfast! Our friends got there before we did (around 3:30) and upon finding what looked to be the one and only spot suitable for camping, proceeded to set up. The owner was not there upon check-in 3 PM and had sent our friends only cryptic instructions about where any of us should park or set up camp. I've since learned this is a pattern for her.. putting her social life above her duties as a host. I might add, there were a total of ten people who arrived during her absence. Just seemed really odd since we have stayed at many other B & B's and found whenever the owner was not available, there was always someone the in their place to be of service. So, enjoying a little happy hour and within the sound of the rushing river, we started a campfire. Ten minutes before dinner was ready or shortly after 7 PM, the owner pulled up on her motorcycle and without greeting us, abruptly stated that we needed to move to another spot. We were shocked at her demeanor but politely asked if we couldn't just eat and then move but she gave us an adamant "No". Without options, we began moving all our belongings to her gravel driveway, where our friends were expected to spend the night. She told us we could eat on the porch. This was a total embarrassment to me after talking the place up to our friends and when I told her that, she told us to just forget it, that we needed to go. Wow - so completely irrational, unprofessional, unnecessary and rude. Also, the bathroom designated for campers was occupied by a mama cat and six kittens and stunk to high heaven! read more

What you see is not what you will get!!! I'm not sure when the photos were taken of this property, but is clear as soon as you pull in the drive that the property requires some additional upkeep and is nowhere near as clean/charming as it is portrayed on the website. As we walked up to the porch we were greeted with complete clutter and filth. A few rocking chairs were broken and just left sitting on the porch, it looked like a broom had not been used on the porch EVER and there were random buckets/jars of dirty water. Upon entering the owners home, she was friendly and greeted us and promptly took us upstairs to our rooms. As soon as we started up the steps we were struck with the unappealing smell of a cats litter box. Nowhere during the booking process was it divulged that there would be cats in the house - seems like that should be communicated to ensure your guests have no allergies or other issues such as dealing with the disgusting smell of a litter box/cat urine. Further, I do not appreciate seeing a random cat dart across my room when not expected - keep your cats out of guest rooms!!! After venturing out to find dinner for the evening, we decided to put aside our initial experience and take advantage of the warm weather and bring it back to eat out on the porch. Another mistake. The aforementioned random buckets/jars of water continued to be found and unfortunately, as anyone familiar with the out of doors knows, standing water attracts bugs. So, unfortunately, enjoying a nice bottle of wine on the porch was cut short and we were off to bed to try to get out of the home as early as possible the next morning. All-in-all, be warned that your experience will NOT feel like a B&B experience and the owner really needs to make an effort to live up to what is being presented on her website because expectations vs. reality end up being two very different things! read more

Disappointed. A friend of mine got tickets to a show at Cache Creek Casino. Being that was 2.5 hours away from where we live, we wanted to get a room for the night after the show. I saw the listing for Rumsey House. It looked quaint and the reviews looked decent. In looking at rooming options at the property, inside the main house weren't showing available. The cottage adjacent to the house was, so made my reservation via Airbnb for the use of the cottage. I received a confirmation and messaged the host (via Airbnb messaging) after the reservation was initially made. I didn't receive a reply back (which I did think odd). Day of check in, I called and left a couple messages to say was on my way. No call back. Went to the property but there was no one onsite and no one answering phone messages either. I also emailed Camilla (the host) as instructed by the message on the answering machine. The place was wide open and there were cats *everywhere* outside. This was mentioned in the description, however, didn't think there would be quite that many. We found the cottage in the back and another person's belongings were already in there. The reservation was apparently double booked. Camilla - Owner/manager/host was unresponsive to my calls and emails. Finally got a reply from the host (via Airbnb message) after I called Airbnb to complain. No apologies or any acknowledgement given by the host regarding a mix-up or anything, only a snarky reply of "You're welcome" when I had sent a message saying "Thanks for double booking the cottage.." The host went on to lie on a reply message via Airbnb that she had contacted me as the Cottage had plumbing issues and gave me the name of her friends' B&B (this never happened). All we wanted to do was have a nice getaway and enjoy a stay at a B&B (our first ever). I understand things happen, but Camilla was *not* a gracious, courteous, or responsive host. I did eventually get a refund (after the fact). read more

Rumsey House is a lovely B&B escape in the countryside and hills. The house itself is charmingly designed, the rooms clean and bright, and the bathrooms stocked with luxurious bath and body products. I loved browsing the collection of books and reading on the comfortable sofa on the second floor lounge/nook. We enjoyed sitting on the wrap-around porch in the evenings, watching the birds. Camille is an excellent cook, and prepared delicious breakfasts from local, fresh products - including herbs from her garden. read more

For anyone looking for a farm, hiking, kayaking, rafting or foraging adventure spot in the beautiful Capay Valley, or even just a quite place to relax and enjoy some natural beauty, this is the place for you! Camilla and David are excellent hosts, so don't be shy! They are filled with an incredible amount of information about the surrounding area, including the best hikes, places to forage and local farms and vineyards to visit. Wow - we had a great time with our family of 4 (2 boys - 15, 12). Camilla was awesome in accommodating our needs with extra blankets, sheets, plenty of care. The place is nicely proportioned, classy and clean. Camilla put much personal effort in the breakfast - hand squeezing the orange juice from oranges from her back yard (yum!), making scrambled eggs using the eggs from her coop, etc. Perfect getaway for some peace and quiet. Highly recommended! read more

We were attending a show at Cache Creek Casino and had a one-night stay here. Quiet, country grounds. Greeted by a black tomcat with a large mane who's obviously the king of the lair, and some momma cats and kittens. Charming house with a wrap-around porch, nice living room, interesting art, books, instruments. Our room was large, clean, interesting décor, nice bathroom,. The breakfast: fresh duck and chicken eggs, homegrown/sundried fruits, roasted vegetables, homemade bread, fresh pomegranate juice, rose-hips jelly, good coffee. Camilla is very down-to-earth. We would go back. I'd give this five stars if the cat-urine smell in a few parts of the house was eliminated. read more

I reserved a camping spot. The day of the reservation I emailed Camille asking about the availability of a table. She responded and stated one could be provided but advise we may have to move our car since their was limited parking. After arriving at 3:30pm, there was no clear indication on where to camp. I chose a spot next to a table. Camille arrived after 7pm and became irritated within minutes because we were not in the correct location. Even though we were in the middle of cooking a dinner and enjoying a fire we asked to move and then asked to leave. She raised her voice at us and was downright rude. All could have been avoided with a simple note posting where we where to be. Stay away from this place if you want a relaxing place to camp. read more

I love staying at B&B's and boutique hotels. My only expectation is for them to be clean and inviting. RUMSEY HOUSE did not provide exceptable service and is not reccommended unles you plan to take your cleaning supplies, fly swatter and rubber gloves. The Health Department will be making a visit in the near future as all reports must be investigated. In addition Code inforcement was contacted regarding possible violation to zoning and building code regulations. My sister & I were looking for a place to a few months ago. We were attending a show at Cache Creek Casino. The casino hotel was booked solid and I decided to search for an alternate location. Rumsey House... When I spoke with Camille while making my reservation I shared how excited we were to see the facility and to meet her after the comments I had viewed on the website. What a horible mistake!!! The worst experience ever. When we arrived Camille was not on site and a man showed us to our room. I was not impresssed with the cleanliness of the facility at all but I thought it is only for one night. We will make it work. A few minutes later I went down to get our bags from the car. Camile pulled up in her car, introduced herself and stated she had been at a class and our room would be ready shortly. (Note this was 2 hours after check in time the room should have already been cleaned) When I told her that the gentleman had already taken us to our room she was surprised and stated he may not have cleaned it correctly and she wanted to make sure. As we entered the house she asked the man (turned out to be her husband) if he had cleaned the room. He said YES. She then started to question him. "Well when did you do it? Did you do it after I called?" As I headed up the stairs they were still bickering and it was very uncomfortable to hear. After hearing them argue about the room I actually checked it out. a little closer. OMG The husband had lied...... and got caught in his lie. The room was absolutley horrific. The house is beautiful but not clean at all. The room was uninhabitable. Spider webs every where, due to the holes in the window screens the place was full of flies both alive and dead. The dust was so thick on the furniture the air quality was poor. The toilet was NASTY it had a brown ring (not from hard water but not being cleaned), there was soap scum and hair on the sink...there were dirty throw rugs covered in animal hair, fresh flowers standing in dirty water. A half used container of foot callous remover adorned the night stand. To top it off the bed sheets were filthy actually had black marks, hair and who knows what else. Well..... we decided we could not stay there another minute and left with our bags in tow. Camile pleaded with us to just give her a few minutes and she would clean the room and asked us to leave our bags on site. She knew then we were out of there!!!! read more

Rustic and rural, especially on the outside, and delightful inside. Camilla made us comfortable, sent us to a great swimming hole, made a FANTASTIC breakfast out of eggs from her ducks and chickens, local cheese, herbs she picked, jelly she canned, pesto made with pine nuts she foraged, cracked, and cooked - and plenty of coffee. It's hot around there, so ask for extra tips about keeping the room cool (it's about ventilation and evening breezes). We enjoyed our Moon room, would maybe ask for the downstairs room next time. Looks like a great place to cozy up in the winter, and we are looking forward to that. We were there for the Full Belly Farm Dinner and the location was perfect. Also, if you want to escape the crowds, this is the place. The wraparound porch is pretty dreamy, especially when the chickens and ducks are roaming. read more

The Rumsey House, was not what we expected. All pictures on web page are truly misleading. My Husband and I went Memorial Day weekend and we're very excited to stay at a Bed and Breakfast for the very 1st time. However, after staying here we will never stay at another Bed and Breakfast again. 1st off the main reason individuals choose a Bed and Breakfast is to have the run of the home. Camille (owner) keeps kitchen off limits to all quest, including placing beverages in refrigerator to keep them cold (so you better have a cooler with ice on hand). We booked the Moon Room, which if you view the pictures on line it states that it's a romantic room with sky lights directly located over the bed where you can view the stars, NOT! I would have had a better view sleeping in my car. Not to mention the room was filthy (cob webs & dust) were seen behind the head board. Bath room window, which over looks as Camille calls it (The camp Ground), which is literally her front yard where she allows individuals to put up their tent) has no drapes for privacy. Be Aware staying here is literally throwing your money away. read more

My weekend stay at Cache Creek Inn was amazing. Besides the 5 star hospitality and comfort of the room and house, it was so beautiful and calming outside. The owner was hard to reach, but we finally managed to get confirmation of our reservation, but, again, when we tried to contact her just before our trip, silence. Fortunately, our rooms were available when we arrived. But... house is extremely dirty; despite notices from the owner that cats should not be let in the house, there was cat hair everywhere (she air dries the bath towels outside, and cats sit on them after they are folded), and there was cat throw-up on one of the bedroom floors. The floors had clearly not been swept in a long time, the bathroom mirrors had toothpaste splashes from previous guests, there was cat hair stuck to the shampoo bottle left in one of the bathrooms, the shower floor in one of the bathrooms could have used a good bleaching, and the microwave had crusty food splashes all over (probably the reason she did not want us to use it at all, not even to make a late evening cup of tea). Wifi did not work at all during the time we were there. While this is usually a good thing (cell reception is zero, so this is good if you want to disconnect), we were there for a family wedding, and were thus severely hampered by the inability to communicate with the bridal party. Finally, forget about food prepared by a gourmet chef. The gourmet chef is the owner's daughter, who has departed to another part of the world a long time ago, so... false advertising on the website. Breakfast is ok, with extra emphasis on all the products the owner grows herself, but... hardly gourmet. It is though vegetarian, so if you are expecting a nice slice of bacon or a little meat in general, no luck there. We had no milk for breakfast coffee the first day, because the milk in the (not so clean) fridge was sour and had not been replaced. Finally, last but not least, she is selling the B&B (it is clear that the responsibilities have tired her) and a prospective buyer showed up while we were having family time; the owner just proceeded to show the property, almost as if we were not there. Quite embarrassing... read more

My Fence at the time and I were looking for a romantic get away. If you are looking for a 5 starr get away this is NOT it. But if you want a place that is freindly, warm, PEACEFULL THIS IS IT. I read the other review and they are both correct. There are cobwebs and it is not the cleanest but she does what she can. Her and her husband are new at the whole B&B thing so I think with some time she will get better. The food was soooo good and the coffee too. The bed was very comfortable and the enviorment very peacefull. I will be going back for sure. It is rustic and they are both down to earth real people. This is not a bushie B&B. I WOULD RECOMEND STAYING HERE. JUST DON'T EXPECT THE RITZ. read more

We were in the area for a birthday party and our friend recommended Rumsey House. We stayed in the Moon Room and thought it was clean, comfortable and cozy. The bed was great. We were not in the room very much but my husband pointed out the skylights and the stars that could be seen through the windows from the bed. Everything about the house is charming from the antiques to the "Fort Rumsey" bed accessible by ladder in the upstairs area. The whole time we were there I was wishing we had brought our son. Another guest's son was asked if he wanted to go feed the chickens in the morning and of course, he did. It is quiet and peaceful and when I go back I will have coffee outside on the covered porch. Camilla is very nice and she made us a wonderful breakfast that was unique and delicious. We felt like old friends by the time we left and it was fun to visit with the other guests over breakfast. We will visit the area and Rumsey House again. read more

A warm and cozy craftsman style B&B in a 2-acre walnut grove. We have large sunny rooms with private baths overlooking the grove. A stone fireplace graces the lobby. The inn is at the upper end of the Capay Valley, full of organic farms and wineries. Surrounding the inn are coastal mountains and BLM open space with lots of forest. Cache Creek, a year-round river, is very close with swimming holes, river rafting and kayaking. The take-out spot is 1/2 mile down the road. Hiking and birding are wonderful.
History
Established in 2010.
Camila Barry, proprietor of Cache Creek Inn, is a science and natural history teacher. Several years ago, she decided to move from the Bay Area to the Capay Valley for its wonderful natural ambiance and river access. Shortly thereafter, she decided to re-open the inn as a B&B. It had been a B&B for approximately ten years previously. Since re-opening the B&B, Camilla has delighted in sharing her love of nature with guests.

This place is a hidden gem. We drove to the nearby river to swim. Delightful! Kayakers and rafters will find plenty of room for their gear at the inn. Great hiking and mountain biking is also close. If you're into the casino scene (I'm not) Cache Creek Casino is a few miles down the road. The kitchen is well appointed for serving guests, and Camilla uses the freshest ingredients, including eggs from her own chickens and honey from her own hives. It's not just business as usual. Camilla makes you feel like you're a long lost friend. The cozy warmth of the fireplace, the real privacy of the rooms, the sparkling conversation (ask her about Afghanistan), all added up to a very special weekend. Sitting on the expansive, wrap-around porch and watching the birds she coaxes in with feeders made the morning coffee perfect. The birding, in general, was great. We plan to stay over for our next birdwatching visit to the Sacramento area. Quiet. Cozy. Comfortable. Very good host. read more

We arrived at Cache Creek Inn on a Saturday night before the Annual Capay Valley Mother's Day Garden Tour not knowing what to expect. It turned out to be a great find. The house was immaculate in the Craftsman style with spacious rooms. We sat out on the porch in the evening listening to frogs and looking at a bright sky full of stars visible only in the countryside. Cosmo the cat entertained us in the morning at breakfast which consisted of eggs from the chicken coop, freshly baked muffins, yogurt, berries and honey. Camilla really went out of her way to keep us comfortable with lively conversation and tour of her property pointing out new and old plantings. This is the kind of place that just makes you want to stay and unwind - it was hard to leave, but we know we'll be back soon! Rick S. read more

My daughter and I had a wonderful time at Cache Creek Inn in Rumsey over the holidays. Camilla greeted us warmly, and took us on a tour of the environs, including the surrounding orchards, back country roads and Cache Creek itself. As you can see from the pictures, the overhanging veranda brings welcome shade while enjoying the orchard view and the cooling breezes. Speaking of the yard, Camilla showed us her bee hives. Later, with our dessert, we enjoyed some of the honey. The meal, the service and the ambiance were great. Later, we sat by the fire in the morris chairs, enjoying great conversation and the warm glow brought on by the fire and the digestifs. Our only hope is a chance to return soon. read more

The casino hotel was booked solid & we are SO glad because we searched up B & B's in the area - found Rumsey House - what a gem!!! Camille was so kind & the room was absolutely perfect. Queen size bed very comfy. We just happened to arrive for the Almond Festival which we so much enjoyed the next morning. My siblings from around the country all met here for a weekend together. We enjoyed spending time on the large porches overlooking the orchard. The many birdfeeders attracted hummingbirds, and there were other birds in the many trees nearby. We hiked together along Cache Creek and noticed the geological formations. Camilla told us where to look, and regaled us with interesting tidbits that were unique to the area. If the weather had been cold or wet, we would have enjoyed a fire in the large fireplace. There is ample room for a card game. We played Scrabble on the kitchen table in the evening. I hope to visit again soon. read more

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful house. It truly reminded us of when we were young and grow in a country atmosphere. We stayed in the "moon room" and it was a true delight. Seeing the moon and stars was a wonderful sight to see. The breakfast that Camilla made was wonderful. For starters she made a plum sauce with Greek yogurt and pomegranate seeds was really good. This coming from someone who really doesn't care for yogurt. The egg omelet was great, with the homemade biscuits and broccolini. Our stay was wonderful and we will definitely make a return visit. Probably try out all the seasons. read more

We just finished a lovely overnight getaway at Rumsey House--our second in the last couple of years. The well-appointed, spacious rooms, high ceilings with thoughtful touches like fresh flowers and stained glass art gave us the restful comfort we wanted for this trip. Outside, I particularly enjoyed playing my guitar on the wide wrap-around porch, or just listening to the evening come. We're getting to love this splendid craftsman style inn and the warm hospitality that hostess Camilla provides. I'm betting we'll be back soon! read more

Stayed at the Rumsey House the night before a river rafting / camping trip. It was delightful! Camilla's home is spacious, clean, and has a lovely wrap-around porch. Juggernaut, the black cat, was super friendly and affectionate. Camilla made us a fabulous breakfast, and we had a delightful conversation with her and the other guests. I didn't want to leave! Next time I'm invited to go river rafting / camping, I plan to just do the river rafting and hang out at the Rumsey House while everyone else roughs it overnight. read more

I booked a room recently and had to cancel because of my unfortunate allergies. I really appreciated how honest and willing to help Camila was. She could've easily lied to me about the existence of cats near the common areas, but she chose to do the right thing and prevent me from suffering an asthma attack. This really meant a lot to me as I have been lied to by others in the past ("the cats are only outside," etc.). God bless this establishment and its owner. Honesty goes a long way. read more

The Rumsey House is country living at its best. Quiet and comfortable. The rooms were HUGE, well kept, and clean. Although the inn is definitely in the country, it is just a short drive from Cache Creek Casino and Resort, one of California's premier casinos. My wife and I very much enjoyed our stay, and look forward to a return visit. read more

I had the most romantic evening here at the Rumsey house. Such a pleasant and beautiful location. My boyfriend Greg Hazelton proposed to me here and of course I accepted. I give special thanks to staff who helped Greg and I reconcile our long lost love, affection and committed relationship that we have for one another. read more
