Sunday morning breakfast. I cannot believe how cheap this place is. It's a rundown gas station turned into a diner. A little boy is cleaning tables, which was very refreshing. I wanted to leave him a tip. It appears everyone knows each other and gives you an eyeball when you walk in as a stranger. It was fine though. Not the fastest service but super friendly. Coffee was good, food was good enough. I was surprised the gravy was from a package and needed pepper. That glassy sheen that tells you it's not from scratch. A down-home place like this, I would expect they would value homemade staples. Biscuits weren't fresh either. Bacon was good and crispy but tasted like it was cooked in burnt grease. All was edible and did the job, just not a destination for food is all. Nice and cool dining room on a hot morning. read more

Warning During my visit I couldn't help but notice that some of the other patrons you are likely to sit near, can be of the older particularly cynical and just plain rude variety. Do try to overlook the scoffing or general ridicule you might hear from these other nearby patrons. We went to dinner with friends yesterday and our friends had checked the website for pricing. When we arrived and were given menus the pricing was significantly different from what the website indicated. We placed our orders and i specifically ordered the chopped steak meal. When the meal came out, what was served was a sirloin steak that was dry and tough. When I told the server this wasn't what I ordered, I was informed that was what was prepared. When we got the bill, not only was the food not edible they charged me more for the steak. When i pointed out this fact the little teenaged manager said the pricing was what it was. She was rude and arrogant, obviously had no formal customer service training not people skills for that matter. We WON'T be back!! read more

I was going to grab some lunch after visiting St Francois State Park on a Monday. The name is accurate because the place smells pretty bad. I decided just to grab some pie to go, but nobody was able to help me even though there were only 3 tables seated in the restaurant. I said hi to a server behind the counter, but she was too busy on the computer. Eventually she asked what I wanted, then said it would be a while before she could help me. The food is OK but half the room is smoky and the other half is non-smoking of course when they all start smoking all drips over into the non-smoking area so if you're a non-smoker, I would not recommend this restaurant if you're a non-smoker I had breakfast there, but I don't think I'll be back unless the restaurants empty of smokers read more

Price was right where it should be. The waitress was fantastic. And the food was GREAT. if you are in the area definitely stop and give it a try. A lot of cigarette smoke..... The food was decent. The service was great. The potatoes were a bit greasy and bland but the eggs were cooked perfectly and the pancakes were good. However, the restaurant is basically a big open room with one half smoking and the other half non-smoking. We took our kids for breakfast and sat in "non-smoking" but while we were there several people came in and were smoking in the other half of the room, so at that point we were pretty much eating breakfast in a room full of cigarette smoke. We just ate quickly and left. If cigarette smoke doesn't bother you, you may like it, but we won't be back and wish we would have known about the smoking. read more

Place was meh, the food was good for the price. The wait was insane for 6 people, we waiting 50 or so minutes for food and the people who were next to us waited 20 or less. It was not worth the wait, sides were forgotten and food came out slowly. I'd recommend it if you want to take a long rest. We had 6 people but that shouldn't explain almost the hour wait we had. Place has two sides, one for smoking and one not. Strong smell of cigarettes, but that makes sense. This place is genuinely the worst dining experience I've ever had. If I could give a zero star review I would. To start, it's an old gas station. Seedy to say the least. The place wreaked of cigarette smoke, but I gave it a shot anyway. Wrong choice on my part. The pancakes tasted like curdled milk, the eggs had an indescribable bad taste and flooded the plate because they were undercooked, the gravy was tasteless and had the consistency of soup. My advice from personal experience is...just stay home and cook it yourself! I'll post more later when I have time to really go into detail regarding the service and food. Update with photo: I asked for a medium rare steak. It was thin, over cooked and tough. The steak and potatoes had no seasoning or good flavor. I think the grease wasn't hot enough to cook the potatoes because it soaked right into them. The eggs and toast...well who can screw those up unless you burn them, right? At least the eggs were over easy like I wanted. Hubby didn't love his food either (no photo), but he did say the gravy was good. His hash browns were like my potato slices, no seasoning or good flavor. I honestly thought I was getting normal cubed fried potatoes. The place smelled of cigarette smoke. It took the waitress a while to greet us then get our coffee and water. Afterward it took even longer for her to come take our order. She didn't seem like she gave to craps about being there. She wasn't customer service friendly and she had no suggestions on what were popular dishes. After taking our order she was supposed to bring us more coffee and water. It took a long time for her to simply bring our food and by that time it was basically warm. After we ate then we had to get her attention to ask for the bill at which time she mentioned the extra coffee and water we never got. We simply told her not to bother. My husband still tipped a low tip and that was being kind. This was one of the worst services we've ever had! I definitely have a greater appreciation for all the waiters and waitresses who kicked ass at their jobs and am so glad we tipped them well because in comparison to this their +20% we customarily give was definitely worth it and earned! read more

This was our first time going to Granny Frannys. Recommended highly by several people I've known and worked with, we decided to get a late breakfast shortly before noon. The parking lot was packed but we were able to seat ourselves right away without a wait. The booth was spacious and clean. Our waitress was delightful and despite tending to many tables, she was to us quickly. The coffee here was piping hot and fresh, quite delicious actually. I decided on the big boy breakfast which I felt was a complete bargain for $6.99 to get a three egg breakfast with bacon, toast, home fries, a biscuit and gravy. Absolutely couldn't eat it all, which was a shame for how good it was. The biscuit in that biscuit and gravy was velvety soft and fresh. The gravy was not overly seasoned. It was probably one of the best BnGs I've ever had. My eggs were cooked nicely. The only thing we didn't care for was the smoking allowed. Granny Franny's was on the way to our destination, so we popped in to pick up supper. Oh my goodness, it was wonderful. Comfort food, which we needed after driving a good part of the day. Meatloaf with 3 sides and chicken fried steak with 3 sides. Cooked perfect. With tip, under $25.00. Servings were so large, part of my supper will be breakfast. Folks were very friendly. If you are traveling through or live close, this would be an excellent place for any meal of the day. read more

Fantastic hot wings! We stop in here for them every time we're down south visiting my guy's sister. The sauce is flavorful without excessive heat. We split the 20 count with Franks Red Hot sauce and lots of blue cheese, plus an order of fried green beans and 2 iced teas. Bill was around $25. Visited here for breakfast before Cardinals home opener. We went at about 11:15am. Food was good as always. Service as well. I had the Big Daddy, which include 3 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, and hash brown, plus your choice of toast, and 1 biscuit with gravy. All for around 5 dollars. Great value! The bacon was too crispy for my liking though. It seemed like it may have been a little old. Eggs maybe could've been cooked a little longer too as they were slightly slimy, which seems to be pretty regular for them, but that being said, I've had them several times and I keep getting them, so they aren't slimy to the point where a picky eater like myself won't eat them. Just constructive criticism here. Also, I am a former smoker and used to love that they let people smoke in here, but non-smokers beware, this place is smokey and the walls and ceilings show it. It's a little grimey because of it. Could use some new paint and new tables and booths. They have the best chicken wings around. Both the Frank's Golden and the regular 7 alarm wings (5-alarm, 3-alarm? Some number alarm wings) are great. This place would easily have a 5 if they would update the inside and clean it up a little. I know people who won't eat there because of the looks. But I don't mind as it's very close to home and has been pretty consistently good for years. read more

Me and my girlfriend just walked in this morning to get breakfast and no tables were cleaned at all but the lady kept telling us to sit where we'd like. That really wasn't an issue for us because they were a little busy. Why really made me have to write a bad review which I rarely do for restaurants is that after waiting 10 minutes at the table and not even getting a menu, an older couple walks in and gets served right away. The wings themselves were jumbo & delicious, BUT that sauce was either not Franks or it was a little bit of Frank's mixed with a lot of sweet stuff. Unimpressed with them.
