It was such a nice sunny day in St. John that we wanted to find a place to eat outside. We found Grannans. While along the east coast during lobster time I tend to over indulge in anything lobster. So another lobster roll it is. I also love blueberry beer so chose a cold blueberry beer, with fresh blueberries of course. Across the sidewalk there was a small stage for local talent to play. A single guy with a guitar was playing some good old fashioned rock n roll. So we just enjoyed the lobster roll, beer, sun and music. The place was busy (probably because it was a very nice fall day in Canada) so took a little time to get our order. Once we ordered the food was delivered quickly.

Don't pass this by! We were visiting on our cruise and this is a must have dining spot. We enjoyed the lobster roll and fish and chips, a couple of local beer pours and top notch service. Unless you are starved do not order the extra piece of fish as serving sizes are ginormous. The fries are so good that the must have been blessed with the tears of saints. Wish I could give a sixth star!!

a receipt on a table

Our family 4 people came from Moncton to have lunch in it in the noon, No clients in the lobby, also no waitress treated us at the lobby either, we waited for at least 10 mins, then a waitress lead us to the table. After another 30 mins, then came the dished we ordered , then the waitress disappeared, we want some vinegar, asked 5 times, no one was responded. When I stand up to try to find it, a man suddenly rushed in front of us, rudely shout out to me, "what do you want ", It is said he is the owner of the restaurant, so rude and ignorant and ugly, discriminated our Asia people. we are his customers, have lunch his restaurant, no the thieves. How ugly the restaurant is!

After visiting the New Brunswick Museum, we took a walk outside to find a place for lunch. There were several restaurants outside of Market Square lined up along the waterfront boardwalk which offered "al fresco" patio dining. Each of the restaurants had menu boards to look over at their entrances. It was a nice sunny day and I wanted some fish and chips and my buddy wanted a salad, so we decided on Grannan's Seafood & Oyster Bar and sat ourselves at an outside patio table with umbrella. The waitress came over with menus and took our drink order: 2 Diet Pepsis ($2.25 each). We placed our lunch order, but the food took awhile to come out since the place was very busy and the patio almost filled up. The 2 Piece Fish & Chips ($9.99) was decent and not greasy The fish was warm and on the dry side, the fresh cut chips were decent, and the cole slaw was creamy. The Half Spinach Salad ($5.99) was pretty good, which was fresh crisp baby spinach, green onion topped with lots of real bacon, shredded cheeses, & mushrooms with cool ranch dressing and deviled egg on the side. The overall service was delayed. I had to wave down the waitress to settle the check. We had an overall decent "al fresco" lunch while we took in the lively atmosphere of the patio along the boardwalk, mostly tourists milling around.

Grannan's Beautiful weather, great view, live music, good seafood, what more could you want for a lunch break on a lovely sunny day in St John? Well... GREAT seafood. So the first three were top notch, Adam Washburn singing his songs and playing his heart out, the view of the lighthouse & stage and of course, al fresco dining when the sun is shining and a cool breeze stops it from becoming too warm. As for the food, I wish we could give it as glowing a report as we did everything else. I had the Maritime fish pie and by all accounts it was fine. However, hubby's fish and chips were sadly lacking. It looked as if they had taken a haddock and layered it to get more filets, it was officially the thinnest filet we had seen. Unfortunately the thick hard shell didn't help matters. The ladies beside us ordered the lobster roll and were heard to complain that it was mainly bread. It did indeed look like the lobster had crawled into the bun and out the other side and it was a thick hot dog style bun, pretty much all bread. I was so thankful I had not chosen that as my final lobster roll on this trip up North. I would have been crushed after the great ones we have sampled along the way. This leads to the sad conclusion that like most places on a 'main square' or on the prom, or next to a dock or major tourist attraction, it is big bucks for poor quality. They are obviously going all in for quantity not quality business. The setting, my fish pie and the servers all get a star for quality and that is what brings the score to a three out of five. As folks tend to go to eating establishments primarily for the food, it really should have been a 2.5.

Even though I'm not a fan of seafood, I had supper this evening at Grannan's Seafood. I ordered Prime Rib, minus the veggies. I ordered my steak medium well and it was done well, which was fine. The char marks, though, tasted burnt so took away from the taste of the steak. The steak was just okay. I've had lots of Yorkshire pudding and was a bit concerned when I cut into it because it was so dense and not airy ... but it was surprisingly fairly light. Abby was my server. She was busy but took good care of me.

So I went back last night and ate in the in pub down stairs with a couple friends. The bartender served us and we all felt like we were bothering him for being there. My fish n chip were tasteless, the rest of the orders were great I heard. I will probably not return until summer.

Great seafood and nice view over the market slip and old Saint John . During festivities on the slip, you can see the stage outside .

Great new Renos, very modern and fresh , up to date . Friendly and professional staff , classy twist . Menus could use a little magic eraser action , overall nice menus , good quality . Had Caesar salad $15 , HOUSE MADE and delish . Order mild, medium or hot (garlic of course) , and got anchovies on the side for awesome flavour . Squeeze the ol' lemon on top with fresh parm . Always a classic at Grannan's For main , ordered Bruschetta mussels $27 . Great dish with nice flavours . Went well with Riesling Bree $12 glass Went here with my mother and she and I had split the mussels and salad as we were just out for a quick bite! Walked out feeling comfortable. Live to eat don't eat to live! Great location on the market slip . The place has been a city favourite since 1982.

Yummy Blueberry craft beer

Good place to eat. Nice server and food was good. Lobster rolls were yummy just small in size but still worth it. Artichoke dip a must. We ate inside because it can get chilly in the patio. The blueberry beer was very good. Pricing is up there but to be expected since we are so close to the water. Bathrooms are clean & that is a plus!!!

I'm not big on seafood personally, but any restaurant that can make a great burger and fries or Caesar salad is grade A in my books.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Absolutely horrible experience…read more We arrived around 10:30 am on a Wednesday. There was no one else in the restaurant. The two ladies working seemed like they didn't want to be there. They acted like we weren't customers and they didn't need to serve us. They acted like we were some sort of burden to them. We were seated and then they never came back. We were seated in the bar area and they were standing at the bar chatting so loudly we could hear their entire conversation about their lives and how miserable they were. We had to ask for coffee. It took forever to come. We had to tell them we were ready to order because it seemed like they didn't want to take our order. I ordered the chicken and waffle. It was disgusting. Zero flavor. I don't even know how that is possible. I added salt and it still was tasteless. My husband ordered the coconut French toast. He liked it. But it looked like it was on very thin sandwich bread. My mom ordered the breakfast sandwich. It had no flavor and it was cold. The potatoes were cold and dry. Would absolutely never come back here and would not recommend to anyone.

I was searching for a good seafood chowder within walking distance of the cruise port. I chose…read moreBritt's, and I was glad I did. The Maritime chowder was fantastic. It was full of seafood-salmon, shrimp, haddock, and 2 prosciutto wrapped scallops sitting on top. I would definitely make it a point to head to Britt's if I am in that port again.
