Seafood chowder - haddock, scallops, lobster
    Shula R.

Came here on an excursion and staff was friendly and quick. The seafood chowder was tasty and filling. The biscuit looked a little like cheddar bay type but they were just regular. Views of the Bay of Fundy and the sea caves are absolutely stunning and make for a lovely meal.

It's our last night here in St. Martin's so we picked The Caves Restaurant to eat at. It was an experience. I looked at the menu prior, along with a few photos...it was quite clear what type of food we were going for. It looked like your typical fries, fish, hamburger joint. You knew you weren't getting any fresh local greens etc. from local gardens - you were getting a grease meal! We had already visited the sea caves a few times so we had walked past this restaurant and had seen folks out on the deck. We walked in on the deck and as my wife stood there, I gave her a nudge and said, I don't think this is one of these spots where you wait to be seated. The spot was busy...we grabbed an uncleaned table as it was the only one that just came available. The wife took our orders and walked in through the doors to place the order. She then came out another set of doors with some water, ketchup and utensils. We cleaned the table from the previous patrons and there we waited - not long, our food appeared. As mentioned, we knew what to expect in regards to the food quality and yes, it was good - the fries had more grease in them than potato. I ordered the club - wife ordered a fish and chip - kid #1 had a burger and fries and kid #2 had a grilled cheese and fries. All was devoured except fries but only because there was to many I kept seeing signs that mentioned, "best chowder, best fish and chips..." - that club sandwich was perfect. It came out exactly like I wanted it to with zero disappointment. I wasn't a fan of the seating arrangements and ordering style - it's very chaotic.

It's been many years since I've been back to my hometown area, The Caves Restaurant never disappoints. Amazing Friendly Staff, you can't go wrong here. The Caves Restaurant also named one of the top 9 places for seafood in the East Coast by Food Magazine. Great work Crew.

They have some of the best chowder I've ever had. Their fish and chips are also great. And the outdoor seating is beautiful. #iraeats #iraeats1

A popular spot located at the famous St. Martins' sea caves! Don't be alarmed by the huge line - it does move steadily. You get a number, find a table, and they'll bring you your food. I got the chowder as well as the fish and chips. It was a good hearty chowder that came with a biscuit. The fish and chips were fried well - nice and crispy.

    Fish chowder!

Awesome fish chowder and biscuit. Went in as a group and got us in and out. Did not have a chance to try anything else there but was too long. Seaside next store was not open, fast and great.

Lobster Roll with Onion Rings & Fries

I wanted to like this place, but sadly it heavily disappointed me. While my mom and I were travelling through Saint Martins, we saw the restaurant being packed with people so we figured it must be great if it had so many customers. Well, boy were we wrong... or simply the unlucky ones out of all the other people who ordered there. I ordered the Lobster roll with french fries, instead of onion rings and my mom ordered the scallops with fries. I believe the food was quite overpriced for its actual quality and quantity. I went to many more restaurants that were better as well as fancier, and payed less for two people than I paid here. Anyways, the food? Well, the lobster roll was pretty good but very small for its value. The onion rings and fries were extremely greasy that after I would touch them it would look like I dipped the tips of my fingers into oil. My mom ordered scallops with fries. My mom like the taste of the scallops but she did think that them as well as the fries were very greasy as well. When I tried my mom's scallops, I personally didn't like them. To me they barely had any flavour and were just greasy and chewy. That's not the worst part though, not long before that my mom started feeling sick from the food. Although I really didn't like this place, the people were nice. When I got my lobster roll with onion rings instead of fries, once I told them they made no excuses and got me my fries right away. I appreciated that because comparing it to other past experiences at other restaurants from when they got my order wrong, sometimes the staff there were not so nice and willing to fix it, but here the staff were nice and understanding. Overall, the food was really heavy and greasy. I wanted to like this place but sadly it disappointed me heav

Right on the beach. They do hype their clam chowder and I can say the hype is worth it. The clam chowder is one of the best chowder I had, so fresh and tasty. Fish & chips was amazing too (little expensive but the good portion size for the size of fish)

We have been visiting Canada for as far back as I can remember. For years my my mom, has been going without me. The one thing that I look forward to her bringing back to the States, is the Seafood Chowder, from The Caves. This year, I was able to join my parents, along with my son. We decided to visit the caves and the restaurant. As much as I love the chowder, it was such a warm day, that I decided not to order it. Besides, my mom did get it, so I was pretty sure that I would be able to have some. This is your standard seafood "shack" with mostly fried food. It was a little too greasy for me. My dad and I ordered the clam strips, his with fries and mine with the onion rings. Mom got the fish & chips platter and the cup of chowder. The little guy had the grilled cheese with fries. Like most joints, you get more fries or rings, than the meal that you order. I ordered the small order of clam strips. Everything was thrown into one basket. This made it hard to find the strips, in the mound of onion rings. Dad ordered the large...the ratio was a little better. The chowder was as good as I remembered, albeit a little wetter than normal. My mom and son enjoyed their meals. The view from the restaurant is gorgeous and they have indoor (air conditioned) and outdoor seating. Go; enjoy the view, a cup of chowder...and maybe a salad.

We stopped by here a few years ago and fell in love with their chowder it was possibly the best I've ever had. Well we stopped by again today and after eating lots of chowder from different restaurants this is still the best on hands down. I also had the seafood plater which was way more than I could eat. I highly recommend stopping here and enjoying the food and the beautiful view.

Not too impressed with this place. There are limited options in Saint martins so this place is always busy. The sign out front claims they have the best seafood chowder but I was really disappointed. The chowder is too thick and creamy and takes away from the favours of the seafood. It comes with a biscuit which I liked better. I also ordered the fish burger and the bun is too soft. When you pick it up all the toppings fall out making it very messy to eat. It tasted ok but I've definitely had better. Take out service was mediocre. I had to wait over five minutes just to order and there was no one ahead of me in line. There were three servers running around trying to serve their dine in customers. They seemed understaffed. Mediocre food at best. $12 for a bowl of not great chowder no thanks.

We come here every time we visit St. Martins and never disappoints. Food is always terrific, friendly staff. This time we had fish and chips, added a lobster, seafood chowder, and snow crab legs. We actually ordered too much food, could not finish the fish and chips, the portions are large. Their chowder is a creamy thicker type chowder, which is what I prefer. Lobster was tasty and my husband was excited that he was allowed to reach in and pull the lobster he wanted, out of the tank. You just can't get a more beautiful view when eating out on their oven view deck, overlooking the sea caves. Going back tomorrow.

Unless you really like mayonnaise don't bother getting the lobster roll. May was all I could taste.
