Lilly Lakes Restaurant is one of our restaurants we frequent often. We've never had a bad meal there at all. Winter or summer accommodations for eating are wonderful especially by the lake in the summer. The food is delicious, generous, and the staff are always friendly and outgoing. Honestly loved this place for the charm of being something very community based with a great view. If you're in St. John's this place might be a place to try and eat at to support a charity run business. It's in rockwood park so if you wanted to roam around the park and grab a meal this is a great place to do so. I believe the locals helped raise money to repair this pavilion centre and now it's a place that gives back to the community. This place is on the lower level of the pavilion centre and when we walked in the main building there seemed to be an event behind the doors - probably a wedding with everyone going in being so dressed up. I can assure you though, Lily's dining is actually just casual dress code when you get downstairs. We were worried before getting down to the lower level that we were underdressed. The views are amazing from the restaurant as you over look the lake from the outside patio. And it's a cute little diner on the inside. As for the food: I read that they use local ingredients which is nice but overall our dishes were ok. Mind you our table did order something that we didn't really see other people getting, and it was a dish we weren't personally a huge fan of but i can describe it in case anyone is interested. The dish I'm referring to is the Atlantic baked seafood. It was great if you wanted something super creamy and cheesy with seafood but personally I just found the dish ok. I do appreciate all the seafood that was presented inside the dish but I found it too creamy for my personal liking. I would describe it as a seafood casserole on jasmine rice. It's described well on the menu but I just didn't expect it to be as creamy/ cheesy as it was so I think for perspective I was thrown off because it was more wet of a dish than I thought it'd be. If this helps anyone make a decision about it I hope it helps? Anyways we also ordered the nachos because I saw wonton nachos and needed to get it. The nachos I would 100% recommend. It's a very cool way of getting texture but changing some flavour with the hoisin. If you've never tried hoisin sauce it has a bit of a sweet taste so it's like you're having an offset to the savouriness of the nachos. For service, we had a very nice girl. It was also busy the time we went so it was a little bit slow but they were trying their best and you could see it. I would recommend making a reservation. read more

The roasted beet and fried goat cheese salad was spectacular! The poutine was good, but average. The creamy dill salmon (special of the day) was actually weirdly bitter. The salmon was awfully bland, pale, and a bit overcooked to my liking. The steamed veggies on the side were also bland and unexciting. The bar was extremely limited and out of stock, even lacking the basic ingredients for an old fashioned. We were the only ones here on Saturday night, which felt odd and cold. Unfortunately didn't get to enjoy the views which seemed like they would otherwise be beautiful! The service was great! No rush despite out later arrival and very friendly. This was our first experience when we arrived on the east coast for our road trip. We had spent a long 9 hour day driving, and needed a place close to our hotel to reset and recharge. My wife found this place while searching on our drive, and we were quite happy with our choice. Beautiful location, with a menu filled with an assortment of local seafood. My wife and I had the lobster roll and lobster poutine, both of which were incredible. Loved that it was a not for profit business! It was a great location and staff were very friendly. However, I do not think we ordered the right dishes as it seems that the locals ordered mostly the sandwiches! We got the Atlantic Baked Seafood and the Blackened Fish Tacos. They were very generous with the amount of seafood you get, but the baked seafood had a little too much butter for my liking. The tacos were ok. Would come back and try other things! I don't know why this place doesn't have good ratings. We came here after asking Saint John locals to tell us about the best place to eat in town, and they recommended us this. We came in late at night, so missed all the beautiful scenery the place had to offer, but the ambiance inside was good enough. They were almost closing at that time so the service was a little slow as they were cleaning everything up, however, the servers still looked after us. We found out that a drink we ordered was not on the menu so they gave us another drink gratis. The food was mindblowing, they had the best clam chowder I have ever had and that is the conclusion i came to after having clam chowder all over Eastern Canada. Their seafood linguine was pretty good as well. TL;DR: Staying in Saint John and don't know where to eat? come here! read more

There were five of us and everything we ate was quite good. It's in a municipal park office building so descending metal stairs through government offices didn't seem very promising. The restaurant itself had the ambiance of an upscale seniors' home but I bet the deck over the lake would be spectacular on a good weather day. This is an excellent, off the beaten tourist route that offers excellent seafood and other delights. Everything we ordered was exceptionally plated with great sides to choose from. I ordered the seared scallops (not on menu but able to change from what was offered), wild rice, seasonal vegs, and got an ear of corn. My colleague ordered the blackened salmon was also impressed with the food. Parking is easy and as we left, we found a herd of deer grazing near the lake, which is a beautiful setting after a hard day. read more

Extremely expensive menu for a city with up to 30% child poverty. There is no way any 'average' family can afford the prices which, according to the menu, start at $19.95. There was one dish, Maple Curry Chicken, for over $27!! What really irritates me is that this is operated by a charity and the City of Saint John prohibits any other vendors from selling food or anything else in Rockwood Park. Any low income individual or family has no where else in the park to buy any food, not even an ice cream cone for their children. The food may be delicious...the staff may be wonderful, but the few events they provide during the year for seniors and children do little to make up for their lack of affordable choices in this prime lake side venue. read more

I visit Lily's every couple of weeks, and always have a wonderful experience. I've tried just about everything on the menu, my favorites being; the Wonder Ton Nachos, Beet and Goat Cheese Salad, and the Chili lime Chicken Naanwich. The Nachos are always hot, with fresh vegetables and the perfect amount of cheese every time. It has caused my 4 year old to fall in love with black olives and is a family must! The salad is big, with bold flavors that would make a carnivor ask for more. It is sweet and tangy with the balsamic vinagrette and the toasted walnuts give it a perfect crunch. Chili and lime have never been so compatible as they are in this Naanwich. With perfectly cooked and seaso ed chicken that practically jumps in your mouth begging to be eaten, it's so good. Accompanied by a light pineapple salsa with flavors so perfect you will not believe it's a sandwich. And to top all that off, Lily's always has fresh made desserts! My personal favorite would be the melt in your mouth, chocolate nutty SINsation they call German chocolate... need I say more? And all of these things are paired with a beautiful view of the lake and your choice of beverage. I usually go for a sweet chrisp glass of white wine, but have also been known to have an ice tea or coffee. Did I mention the view? Right on the lake! PERFECT for dinner after a long day. I thought this was a lovely place to eat lunch. There is a tiny beach adjacent and people were swimming. Burrrr! There was a trio singing and they were good, not too loud. We ate on the patio at about 2 pm and the place was almost full. Must be good I thought. I had a lobster roll which was fine but it was my first so I had nothing to compare to. Husband had a chicken pesto sandwich and he said it was great. We are thinking about going there for dinner! read more

We came in early on a drizzly weekday not knowing they had changed over to their Winter hours but were welcomed in by the server getting set up for lunch to have some coffee. The location is amazing. Five stars for the location. But everything else is less than mediocre! The service is extremely slow. Not at all in keeping with the maritimes friendliness. The waitresses didn't even bring the menu for 20 minutes even though there were many of them and it wasnt as crowded. The breakfast I ordered was poorly done and shabbily served with wrong order brought out the first time. With that location all I need is a half decent meal to feel happy. But the attitude of the place just left me with a bad taste. A huge scope for improvement! Specially with that kind of location they should try a little harder with their service and food. read more

This could have been great but was mediocre in every way except for the beautiful surroundings. The menu was interesting but each dish underwhelmed, with the Asian seafood salad better than the rest but still just so-so (although the seafood was nice and fresh) and the pepper beef sandwich and turkey waffle sandwich tying for worst--the former because the gravy drowned it (and seemed to be from a jar) and the latter because the turkey was dry and there was little flavor on the sandwich. Fish and chips were also so-so. Service was very spotty. In the time we sat there we watched two other parties leave after waiting 20-30 minutes for a table to be cleared. Our waitress was only attentive when she was waiting for us to pay our bill. There was live music, which could make a place seem better or worse; this tipped worse. The performers weren't bad, they were just mic'ed and did a lot of patter like they were on stage, and I'd have preferred them to be more background, off in a corner. read more
