We hired Kitchen Studio of Glen Ellyn to do a remodel of our master bath and an upgrade of our…read moreother three bathrooms. The project started in July and ended in November 2015. There are a lot of moving parts to this type of project from ideas, design, materials, outside contractors, etc. One should expect the usual delays that come along with any project. The reason why we went with Kitchen Studios is because we did not have the time nor the patience to manage the hundreds of details required and we had a friend who used them and were quite pleased. The three things a homeowner must focus on in out sourcing this type of project is: 1. The creativity and utility of the design 2. The skill sets of the contractors deployed 3. Communication of cost impact to the project from changes and unforeseen surprises. In our estimation Kitchen Studios excelled in the design phase. We met often and were shown numerous options for color, style and design. We were very pleased with the final layout of the Master Bathroom. Susan is very gifted as a design artist. She helped us visualize what we were imagining. She got to know us as people and was able to design exactly what we wanted in a master bath. She was never pushy or overbearing. The contractors were professional, had attention to detail and skilled at what they did. There were times we had to wait extra days to fit into their schedule which pushed back the completion date. But to us, quality was more important than time and Kitchen Studios accomplished that. We had determined a budget we wanted to stick to and Susan was very mindful of that. However, there are always changes that impact your cost basis. Its very important that a detailed accounting be understood by both sides. We feel Jeff did a very good job in keeping track of all the changes and Susan did a great job in keeping us close to our budget. We would highly recommend Kitchen Studios for either a bathroom or kitchen project.

The Kitchen Studio popped up in my google search as being a local dealer of the specific higher end material I wanted. Upon arrival, an employee told me "they don't do just countertops". Okay. That isn't clear on their website. Then she went on to tell me she can't think of anywhere in the area to refer me that "just does counters". First, of all, there are at least 10 countertop fabricators within a 10 mile radius of Glen Ellyn. Someone in the industry should know this. Second, I'm sure the Kitchen Studio has an in house fabricator or they subcontract it out to someone local (most likely) and thus, why on earth would you not give this person my business??? I have a fairly large kitchen and master vanity. My quotes from the other local fabricators, who do, in fact, exist, are coming in at $120/sq foot and up. I'm giving 2 stars instead of one because all their kitchens on houzz are truly lovely and I'm sure if you hire them they would design a beautiful kitchen.

We ordered everything, and Mike at the store contacted us to work through some details. In the process, and without us asking, he managed to change a few things to save us money and then provided a further discount when we ordered our granite countertop through them. That is absolute GOLD these days. We had one cabinet on backorder but he kept us updated on this and we got it about a week later. #3) We LOVE the cabinets! they are high quality and look fantastic. After recommendation from a friend, we stopped into the store. Verlissa, the designer, helped us…read more We had already picked out tile for the bathroom of our bedroom., so she helped us from there. Planning went well and they scheduled to start after Thanksgiving. Mike, the builder, did most of the work. His work is pretty good. I would rate it a B. He could have worked to cover our bedroom furniture from dust, and cover the floor better, but it was not horrible. The company did not charge us for all of they drywall that was replaced, but I was told it was easier to replace it all rather than try to patch in with what was left of the old stuff. Their painter botched the job. He did not clean the roller of lint and left a huge amount of lint all over the newly replaced walls. He came and repainted, and still only did a mediocre job. We paid $100 more for it to be painted again to do another coat to fix his mess, and to change color (our choice). The painter did not cover all the walls well so they sent someone out again. Overall: *Verlissa was very good and was a strong communicator. *Mike's work was pretty good- we would use him again. *The painter - poor- all three times he came. *Time: While we were annoyed by the last parts of the job getting done, the main part of the job got done quickly. They should have followed-up and finished the repaint more quickly. *Cost- we are not really sure. This was our first remodel job. We feel we got a fair price.

We had a so-so experience working with Sterling on a new solid surface double vanity top for our…read morebathroom. The showroom offered an array of setups and samples to choose from, and we had a shorter turnaround on the completion and delivery of our top than anticipated. Things started heading south once we opened up the top and prepped it for install. Despite allowing the top to lay flat for a week to settle, it showed a significant bow on the underside of the middle of the top, a very noticeable warp that could be seen in the backsplash and along the front edge of the counter. We had it installed to see if allowing it to settle further would help, but nothing changed. We then spent several weeks going back and forth with Sterling (and their parent company Americraft) who insisted that the issue must be with the cabinet (which was level) or the wall (which was square). They agreed to make it right with a new top, but initially refused to help cover the install fee which originally cost us $800. Once we agreed they wouldn't have considered replacement without knowing we tried to install it in the first place, they said they would send someone out to install as well. Sterling outsources the manufacture of their tops to Carstin Kitchen & Bath in Arthur, IL and they clearly have an issue with their molds. Even the Americraft installers were taken aback by the noticeable bow in our original top and noticed a minor bowing in the second replacement top. In the end, we got a top that sits level and looks nice in our bathroom, but it was an unnecessarily exhaustive process to get there. I wouldn't recommend working with Sterling unless they commit to working with a different manufacturer.

In the back is another kitchen set up with yet another gorgeous island, oven range, built in drawers, and surprise refrigerators. I loved the wine cellar cabinet and fridge space in the island! I have to say, it's pretty genius to utilize their space after hours for local events.
