I understand that Aussie breakfast might not be for everybody. But we have eaten at a lot of Bill's all over the world (Sydney, Tokyo, Honolulu) so we had to pay a visit. This is the only Granger & Co branch that isn't constantly busy! Usually bookable, which is much appreciated. The restaurant is huge, and is very modern and minimalist. Great for business meetings or larger groups. A little on the pricey side though, but when you taste their food you can tell that there are a lot of good quality ingredients, as well as lovely presentation. Came for a weekday brunch, and we had the Full Aussie (amazing whipped eggs, never seen anything like it) and my absolute favourite - the courgette fritters with halloumi. This dish is so so good, I have had it twice now. Great coffee and service. Would love to come back again soon to try more dishes. read more

Granger & Co is quickly becoming one of my go-to lunch spots in Clerkenwell...when I have a bit of time to enjoy lunch, or am meeting a friend or having an interview or meeting, I come here. The service isn't super fast As does everyone else in the area, apparently. It's always nearly full at lunch! They take bookings right through Yelp though, so not to worry. Make a booking, slide right in and enjoy. Gorgeous, open space full of huge windows, sweeping natural light, white surfaces. It's posh, yet comfortable. If you are a "foodie photog" you'll be happy with the lighting, I assure you. And even if you are just a regular human being, you'll like it too -- natural light is good for you! It's located on a quiet little corner tucked away just off St John Street and Clerkenwell Road, overlooking the back of a big churchyard. Trees, gated park, hidden location -- makes it all a very pleasant experience. Its subdued and refined. The food is excellent. I mostly gravitate towards the salads (Bondi bowl, raw tuna and avocado poke) but also have tried the chicken schnitzel (very nice) and the pistachio fudge. The menu is extensive and well thought out. On the pricey side? Yes. High quality? Yes. Fast? Yes, faster than you'd expect, which I always appreciate when the food is very nice and you are trying to beat the lunch clock. The service is a bit weird -- it's always a bit awkward (why? I don't know?) -- but overall they are trying and friendly. No major problems. It's a gorgeous place and at dinner would be very fit for a special occasion. We went here today on a recommendation and it's somewhere I've been aware of for a while due to its clean, fresh food reputation. We arrived an I was instantly taken in by the relaxed atmosphere and beautifully white, open layout. The furniture is just simple and it's a nice change from many restaurants trying to be a little too much. We sat down and were given the menus and water straight away. We weren't actually informed that it was fizzy water and having taken a large gulp I was shocked. I don't like fizzy drinks and I felt we should have been made aware of this. It wasn't nice. We opted for a chilli squid starter and I chose the prawn linguine with a side of green beans. The starter came quickly which I was thankful for being starving. It was fresh, crunchy and delicious. Not overly battered and it's always great to have some tentacles on the plate. The chilli sauce was a perfect compliment and we really enjoyed the dish. Literally gone in 3 minutes. The main followed with haste. The prawns were huge and really meaty which I loved. You could actually taste the flavour of the fish which you sometime lose if prawns are cooked for too long or are too small. The pasta and sauce was good, very garlicky (I'm a big fan of garlic) - all I will say is that for me, it was slightly to buttery and a little under seasoned but I did enjoy it. I also tried a bite of Alex's chicken schnitzel. Slightly lacking in sauce for me but it had a nice crunch and the chicken was fresh and juicy. Service after this was a little slow and we couldn't find a waiter to ask for the bill for a good 10 minutes which was frustrating but they were friendly and welcoming. Overall we had a lovely lunch and I'd definitely recommend dining here whether it be with a friend, colleague or partner. It definitely lives up to its reputation and I would return. read more

Glad we booked a table because the place was completely crammed (although it was 2pm on a Saturday) Food was super healthy and delicious but a little on the pricey side. We ordered 3 dishes to share between us. The pancakes were pretty sweet so I wouldn't recommend it as a main (it's more of a dessert). The pancakes were also hugeee and I definitely couldn't have eaten it all by myself (there were 3 pancakes on the plate so we had one each which was more than enough). The shrimp burger and lamb pizzatte were delicious though. Service was attentive but not intrusive. They could be a bit smilier but I guess I wouldn't be at rush hour. read more

The staff is professional and attentive, yet really friendly and understanding. Bill Granger's brunch classics are presented nicely throughout the whole menu including the almost legendary ricotta hotcakes with honeycomb butter - they're really good I can say, although they do not beat Five Leaves' unbeatable ricotta pancakes. So why not 5 starts? Well, all the delicious dishes doesn't come that cheap compared to other venues around London. Beautifully designed with high ceilings and long windows that keep the space light and airy. Service is not overly friendly but satisfactory. Our table of 6 ordered a variety of teas and juices, namely the freshly squeezed OJ and the sunshine immunity shot - pineapple, ginger, turmeric, aloe vera and cayenne - YUM. Modest portions but very tasty. For the food, of note was the acai bowl with banana berries and vegan granola, the plate of courgette fritters, halloumi, quinoa buckwheat and shredded kale salad which packed a lot of unctiousness and nutrition with every bite, and lastly, a favourite around the table was the grass fed burger with smoked chili, onion ailoi and maple bacon crumb. Prices are above average here, unsurprisingly for the quality of provisions and the richly appointed space. Must set a reservation as it fills up especially for the weekend crowd. Nice to bring out of town guests though the rest of the neighborhood is pretty empty on the weekend so it's a destination unto itself. read more

We went on a Friday evening, no reservation. Full restaurant. We were greeted by friendly staff and seated in about 1 minute. Pretty good so far. Wonderful space in a converted Clerkenwell warehouse / factory. The menu has some appealing and unpretentious dishes with Asian influences. We shared a beetroot and labneh starter which was just right. For mains I chose the parmesan crumb chicken schnitzel with creamed corn and fennel slaw and a side green salad with buckwheat. It was just as I imagined it could be. The combination worked and the portion was generous in both taste and portion as it should have been. My partner ordered the sticky chilli pork belly which he also enjoyed a lot. Our food came quickly and service was spot on. No fuss, confident and swift. The atmosphere was good and not loud. The space is great and not overdone. With a drink each the bill was very reasonable for the quality. You know, I am going to be the first to give it 5 stars for faultless all round competence, satisfaction and value and look forward to returning. read more

A lovely open space with plenty of room surrounding your table so you don't feel claustrophobic. A varied menu - pizzettas, small plates (varying from fried chicken to squid or flatbread), bowls and grains, bbq (slow cooked rib, sticky pork belly) and big plates (fish curry, braised lamb). Each section has several things I want to try so I'll definitely have to cone back but I still don't quite get the 'theme' of the restaurant - saying that maybe it doesn't matter as the whole menu looks delicious and does seem to work. Good selection of wine and cocktails. Went for a £24 bottle of red which was delicious and went perfectly with the pork belly and lamb ragu we had for main. Recommend both mains along with the lamb pizzetta we shared to start. We were so full so didn't get dessert however there were some rich beautiful sounding desserts along with nibbles such and choco with pistachio which would be great with coffee. Another flawless example of why antipodean cuisine (especially brunch) is taking over London. Courgette fritters with deep fried egg, tahini and haloumi salad, and the broken eggs with sour dough were highlights but the menu leaves you desiring the ricotta hotcakes, full aussie brekfast, chilli bacon roll, coconut milk porridge... (for example) so a repeat performance will likely occur to confirm such literary descriptions match their palatable sensation. Granted, a tad pricer than it's other Clerkenwell competitors (Caravan, Workshop coffee*...) but so far without the long queues which for weekend brunch is certainly something to be happy about. Lots of space inside, so get over quickly before too many people discover this back street delight. Light lofty interior, in spite of not being a sun-facing room. Friendly staff and a cake counter top making it impossible to walk past en route to the (Aesop supplied) basement bathroom and want to order a second coffee as an excuse to tuck into a baked sweet treat. *If you like your coffee as strong as these joints make it maybe a double shot in your flat white is more apt here... read more

We booked in here for a friends 30th birthday and had such a fantastic experience. Our waitress (I'm annoyed I forgot her name so I can't big her up) was so wonderful from the word go and got us a great table. We shared several starters (the whipped avocado being my favourite) but the mains were really special. I had the steamed fish with green tea noodles and it was so so fresh and full of flavour. I also had a sneaky taste of my friends pork and it was amazing. As it was a birthday, we tried a few desserts too - the chocolate pistachio fudge - OH MY. If I could just have plates of that and nothing else I'd be happy. Lovely little place and for what we ate and drank it was pretty reasonably priced too. read more

So again we get dragged to a new place by friends of our who appear to know all about the good places for food in London. Of course we blindly trust them and we were right to do so :-) First contact: very friendly staff, the place is very nicely and simply decorated. Quite some space where we are sitting, so we have enough place to also got our pram next to us at the table. Now let's go to the food: from very simple breakfast stuff to very nice brunch dishes. I got fried rice with shrimps which was simply delicious. But of course you can ask also for any kind of eggs perfectly prepared :-) Our only problem: we chose the wrong table: we found out it was possible to be seated at a high table where all the cakes are put... Actually maybe better as we might have eaten everything ;-) cakes were delicious :-) So go there and enjoy a delicious brunch! read more

There's a chain of these places around London, and they are always packed with Ausi / kiwi's who all take brunch very seriously ! Some of the branches don't take bookings which means you will be queuing (sometimes for a long time!!) The Clerkenwell store is a nice venue that you can make bookings at, we had a 1030 sitting and there were quite a few seats, but by 1200 when we left it was packed. The decor is neutral with high ceilings and lots of windows. The coffee like any Ausi influenced place is really good and the variety of choice suits all needs. Bill granger (the person it's all focused round) is big on his eggs, which are served every way you can imagine, I recommend the scrambled but beware they are heavy on the butter....in fact everything has a heart attacks worth. We went for the sweet corn fritters and the ricotta hotcakes... Hotcakes served with banana and syrup were really good!!! The trade mark fritters served with bacon, spinach and grilled tomatoes were good, but I've been to other branches and had better... They seem to have put curry powder on the tomato which didn't work well for me, and it tasted like the fritters may have been pre-prepared? It was still more interesting and tasty than most other British cafes. I was pleased to see that Granger had opened east and it has found a beautiful space with great windows and high ceilings. Accented with Granger's good taste and beautiful flower arrangements, it is heaven on a sunny day. The food menu is interesting--we enjoyed ricotta pancakes, I liked my shrimp burger, my friend had a great coconut chicken salad and the chorizo rice dish was a winner. Two big complaints--WOW, EXPENSIVE! Luckily we went during the soft opening which made the pain a bit easier to swallow. SERVICE SUCKED. They had no idea what they were doing (maybe early days so hopefully getting the kinks out). No excuse for serving us cold lattes. First let me say this...it's beautiful inside. Really well done with huge windows looking out onto Clerkenwell Green. Sadly that's where it ends. Style but lacking in substance. Shrimp chorizo rice was bland with far too much rice compared to the other ingredients. My burger was average, decent bun but the patty not so great, and £3.80 for a side of fries is unbelievable, probably 1 large spuds worth!! Chicken schnitzel was greasy. The lovely fresh asparagus were ruined by the fried breadcrumbs and the anchovies were non existent. The Korean chicken starter was the only decent dish. Appreciate it's not been open long but it was only the cocktails that stopped it getting 1 star. The bartenders definitely out-shining the kitchen. Maître D was lovely. Service slightly winging it. When travelling through a large city, I go out of my way to see if there is a chef Bill Granger restaurant. Naturally, when I had my London ticket booked, and learned that Granger & Co. was a Bill Granger owned restaurant, I arranged a breakfast meeting there. I first fell in love with chef Bill Granger's pancakes when I was in Odaiba (Tokyo). I give the Japan locations a 5-star plus for its pancakes and other breakfast items (both sweet and savoury). This time I ordered the pancakes again and while it was not as delicious as I remembered it, it was still very good. I think the difference between this Sekforde location and "Bill's" restaurants in Japan is that the pancakes made in Japan are soufflé pancakes and not ricotta pancakes like that at this London restaurant. The smoked salmon baguettes I also ordered were also fresh and delicious. We also saw a bunch of baked items that looked delicious but did not have the space for it in our bellies! Pity!! I'm a bit surprised to see so many negative reviews to be honest! Granger & Co Clerkenwell is the latest outpost of the much lauded Granger & Co in Notting Hill. In my opinion, the food is just as good as the Notting Hill sibling and the restaurant-ing experience itself is much more relaxed and pleasant at the Clerkenwell branch. The space is stunning with huge ceilings, amazing windows and a more open feel. I've also never needed to queue at Clerkenwell, which is a much welcome phenomenon (and they even take resrevations!). But onto the food! I've only done brunch and brunch-y things at Granger & Co, namely the scrambled eggs (definitely live up to the hype you've heard), sweet corn fritters (spot-on if you're a fritter fan) and the broken eggs (truly delightful). The coffee is also first-rate. Granger & Co is one of my go-to brunch spots and would recommend to anyone in the market. Never disappoints me! read more

After a few walk bys we stopped in for dinner last night. Things kicked off, well, with a kick, in the form of an awesome jalapeño tequila and aloe vera cocktail. We settled into dinner with a really great flatbread and goat cheese starter, followed my phenomenal mains (pork belly and tuna steak special) and delicious desserts (peanut brittle and the mousse). Service from Oli was excellent and the vibe was definitely exciting but not too loud, which I always appreciate. Tab (with drinks including a fan bottle of Malbec) was not cheap at £160 but worth it! It was really busy and they still managed to squeeze us in which we were very grateful for. The whole place is bright and airy with high ceilings and lots of natural light. As it was a Saturday morning it was buzzing with brunchers and it was difficult to decide what to have as we watched pretty much every item menu whizz past us on its way to its lucky orderer. I was quite tempted by the full aussie (owner Bill Granger is Australian and this is an influence in both the service and the menu) but went for the lighter toasted rye with avocado, lime & coriander topped with a poached egg while Joanna had the fresh aussie; tea smoked salmon, poached eggs, greens, avocado & cherry tomatoes. I was pleased to see that there was a LOT of avocado on my plate, at least a half of one, and my poached egg was perfectly cooked but I do wish I'd gone for a two eggs instead of just the one. I also tasted a bit of the tea smoked salmon which was nice with just a subtle hint of the tea flavour. We also both went for a glass of elderflower cordial which was just perfect for washing down our breakfast with. Sadly we didn't have time to sample any of the lovely cakes we had on display but that's just a fab reason to return! I think my only complaint would be the price (in particular the drinks) as I didn't think you got a lot of food for your money, £2 for an extra poached egg for example, but I don't know this area well enough to know if this is about average. Regardless it was a wonderful dining experience and I'd definitely return for the right occasion! read more

Exciting dishes, which deliver big on flavour. The setting's not bad either. I loved the sound of menu but there are definitely several dishes I know some of my friends wouldn't dare to try, like brown rice & sweet white miso porridge, dairy free coconut yoghurt & mango (£7.50) and my choice - shrimp, chorizo & house kim chee fried brown rice (£14.50), which was absolutely delicious! I'm not a brown rice fan but the firmer texture worked brilliantly in this dish, with chunks of punchy chorizo, shrimp and kim chee running through it. Pickled cucumbers on the side gave some freshness, a small pot of chilli sauce provided extra heat and the yolk from the poached egg melted in to the rice to mellow some of the flavours and give a creamy texture to some mouthfuls. Banging. All in all, Granger & Co Clerkenwell far surpassed my expectations. The menu is the most interesting breakfast menu I've seen in a long time and the dishes we had comfortably delivered on flavour. read more

riest burger ever.....unappealing calamari. We had 3 meals. 2 out of 3 were very substandard. Beef burger was overdone and was driest and most tasteless and most expensive we've had in a v long time. Burgers need fat for flavour. There was none in this and it was overcooked. A calamari dish was under the salad section. I was expecting an interesting salad. Basically its a starter of fried calamari with a garnish of green papaya. Bad description coupled with underwhelming calamari. Squid bits were small and mean and all u could taste was fried batter. I don't why people rave a bout the atmosphere or deco in Clerkenwell. It's quit plain and boring. The staff is not ver attentive and uninspiring. The menu was changed but they forgotten to rewrite the menu . So we got brown rice with the curry instead with jasmin rice. Apple cake for £7 was equavuallant of a £1 cake in Tesco. I just had an excellent experience at Granger & Co. I came here with some friends for brunch and tried the ricotta pancakes and they were delicious. The wait time for our table was about 10 minutes (even though we had a reservation), which was a bit long, but that was the only slight bump in the road we experienced during our time. The food was delicious, the wait staff were attentive and the ambiance was relaxed. The restaurant is quite spacious with large windows, allowing a lot of natural light to spill in. The prices are a bit expensive, but the quality is worth it. I'd definitely come back! read more

I came here for a late breakfast with two of my friends and we all enjoyed it very much. The ricotta hot cakes weren't as good as the ones in Granger & Co Notting Hill but they were still satisfying. It was recommended by a fellow foodie and I went for the shrimp burger and it tasted much better than I expected. the strange but wonderful combination of jalapeño mayo and sesame gochujang really delivered a powerful and spicy sensation to my palate with the shaved radish salad added the much needed sourness to offset the richness. However, be aware this is not a cheap and cheerful place as you would need to pay at least £20 pp just for 1 course and a soft drink. read more

I was seated as I was the first to arrive, and I asked the waitress what kind of coffee was on offer and she replied "every kind other than the one the cat shits out..." A- thats ignorant and B- that is not proper. Food- Subpar, I ordered the poached eggs, and the eggs were not runny, AT ALL, they were hard boiled, Secondly I asked for the bread to be toasted as i cannot really each crunchy foods, and that was forgotton. The smoked salmon was also not fresh. In the middle of my meal, one of the servers cut me in the middle of my conversation and asked if he could take my mates and my plate. Which is VERY RUDE, when A i am still putting food in my mouth, and B) I am in the middle of a conversation. Lastly, they told us we had to leave because they had booked the place out for a private reservation and needed us to leave quickly. If we had been for a long time, If they are going to be closing early they should have informed us when we booked the table (we had prior confirmed reservations. I would agree and not mind, we were still finishing our tea and it had been around 50 minutes into the meal. This place has no SERVICE ethic whatsoever, and the food is subpar. There are much better food options with better quality food and service. Even the Pret people provide better service. Unless you have no choice, I would avoid at ALL COSTS! read more

This place is up there with the top breakfast spots in London. Nice, relaxed atmosphere and the eggs are heavenly!

First of all, the restaurant is BEAUTIFUL, with high ceilings and large windows that let in lots of natural sunlight. What a great place to spend a sunny weekend day. I was so happy to see cold brew coffee on the menu, and it was really strong, not at all like the iced Americanos I usually settle for here. I also tried the beetroot, carrot, fennel & apple juice, which was not a large glass (and for 4.80, not cheap), but quite refreshing. It was beetroot coloured but tasted mostly like carrot, in my opinion. For brunch I ordered the courgette fritters served with a deep fried egg, haloumi, tahini yoghurt & parsley salad. My favourite bites were the fritters and tahini yoghurt (that sauce was amazing!), and the deep fried egg was super cool and tasty too. My friend got the broken eggs and I thought that was really interesting, as it's a mix between scrambled and fried, and was "still cooking" when they served it on a hot plate. I love this place, and the fact that you can make reservations and get seated immediately is such a plus, but I doubt that policy will last for long as word spreads that this location has opened and it becomes too popular to book. read more

Went to eat with my boyfriend and two other friends. Meal was tasty but nothing that stood out. The decor of the space is beautiful. Neutral tones with servers in denim button down shirts. I started with the green juice, which was light and refreshing. Once you finish it, you feel 100x healthier! As my main I had the quinoa salad with the wild mushroom pizzetta. Good but when the food arrived it was lukewarm like it had been sitting under the heat lamp waiting to be taken to my table. The dessert was not a stand out , but the coffee was made well. Because it was a rainy typical London day one of the people in my group left his umbrella by the door. To his misfortune, someone helped themselves to his umbrella. Another girl in my group started to feel unwell about an hour after eating her fish curry. After many trips to the toilet she asked to speak to the manager to inform her that the food was the cause to the upset stomach. The managers response was that this could not be the case because all the food is fresh and she should go to the doctor ....at 9 pm. She was not the most helpful but did bring some fresh ginger tea.
