This place was amazing! As we traveled through Ohio, we stopped at Grandpas after another yelper recommended it. What an experience! We were first greeted by a friendly girl that explained to us what Grandpas was all about. They have a restaurant, cheese shop, gift shop and across the way is a candy shop. So many cheeses to try!! We bought several cheeses that we were able to taste first. We are excited to take them home and enjoy them with family. We also got some pickles from their huge selection of pickles. We went to the candy shop last and got stone home made fudge, The BEST gummy bears and some chocolate covered pecans and raisins. This was a great stop!! read more

We've always seen these places on the road and today we finally stopped at this location to try out some cheese and crackers. They have so many varieties to choose from and I just had to have the luck of the Irish cheddar to take home with me. I did try the dill pickle at the counter and it was definitely homemade and delicious. The service was so helpful and the layout was great to move back and forth to see the cheeses, pickles, trail mix, and sweets. As soon as we got home we started sampling the cheeses with crackers. The goat cheese and luck of the Irish cheese was wonderful! You won't be disappointed if you stop by. read more

Yesss! I love this place. There are so many cheeses to sample and it is so much more than just cheese. Somehow I came home with like 4 cheeses, popcorn, pecan/chocolate turtles, and candy for my son. I had been wanting to come here and I'm glad I finally got to do so. They had a special strawberry feature event going on, so I got a free strawberry jam with my purchase! I think I've been here before once upon a time coming up from Columbus or something but this review will be for my most recent experience. BF and I were coming back from the Mansfield (Ohio State) Reformatory and we had ourselves such a blast! We sampled so many cheeses and bits of meat--it was heaven! Prices are very high and we started out very tentatively with our purchases but then we got upstairs and all hope of getting out of there under $50 went out the window! The staff was very friendly but one guy stood out; he must've been the manager or something because his private cheese tasting guidance was what introduced me to my favorite cheese = brunost. Let me introduce myself by announcing that I don't like cheese (unless it's cheesecake) and that I'm slightly lactose intolerant. Now fast forward to this guy feeding me bits of cheese that I was lapping up and declaring that it was the best thing ever. The brunost cheese is a square caramel colored block of soft cheese that literally tastes like caramel. OMG it is the most delicious thing I've ever tasted and I didn't even blink that one square block was $15. He fed me this creamy lemony cheese that I liked as well but not quite as much as brunost. We also bought summer sausage, maple breakfast sausage, beef sticks, dips, snack mixes, etc. Yum. What a fun, high calorie stop on our way home! read more

There are also many varieties of chocolates, candies, jams, jellies, and sauces. There are even fun selections of soda pops, pickled eggs, and meats. A great store and restaurant and a historical tourist attraction in Northeast Ohio just east of Ashland on the way between Columbus and Cleveland. Easy to access off of I-71 at the Ashland exit. Great food, meats, cheeses, sweets, ice cream and specialty chocolates. Also available online. Sandwiches are really fresh and good. And it is always friendly and efficient! I've shopped barn and Sweeties for yrs. Would visit every summer when my sister was here from California..not able 2 run over and get my favorites so I just ordered this week..I was so hungry for maple nut fudge which wasn't offered but showed Praline pecan..a nice warm brown sugar kinda fudge and the picture looked as such..NOT..It is vanilla fudge with pecans throwed on it..Does not even come close to praline and definitely doesn't taste like it.. They need 2 find a REAL praline recipe for this fudge..and put a picture on site that TRUELY shows what they are selling.. Decadence! Thy name is Grandpa's Cheese Barn! Apparently, this location is a sort of satellite, truncated version of their main store, but I don't care. This joint is Nirvana! Lots of wonderful cheese, some selections affordable, some not so much. Pre-pandemic, they had samples everywhere. (Yet another thing Covid has ruined for the populace). Most items have a detailed flavor profile listed, as well as wine pairings. This is great for neophytes like me, who like to booze it up with our cheese. It doesn't end there, fellow fatties. Grandpa's Cheese Barn has wonderful candy & chocolate, as well as a beautiful selection of unique jellies, condiments, spreads, & gift items. I cannot recommend this place enough. read more

What a fun place to visit. Grandpa's Cheesebarn has all kinds of candy, pretzels, chips, ice cream, sauces, pickles and of course tons of different kinds of cheese. They not only have a great selection of the items listed above but the quality is what sets this place apart from your average deli or candy store. The service is great and they are always willing to offer a sample. No worries during the pandemic, their employees are wearing masks and gloves and will put your sample on a piece of deli paper for you. I arrived about 2 hours before closing, after I got out of work! I heard a commercial that they had their holiday baskets ready! I needed a basket for family coming in from East cost on Monday, their first time in Ohio! When I arrived, there was maybe 10 employees. 3 boys were working very hard, carrying boxes and unloading and stocking. There were maybe 6 girls, gigging with each other, facing away from customers and another few just on their phones. After walking the entire store, I realize, they don't have ANY baskets... I'd ask but I walked the store twice and not one employee noticed customers, a group of us left. Oh well, it was a serious disappointment. Guess I'll look for gifts elsewhere... read more

Mmmmmm, Sweetie's Treats are a wonderful delight. Salted caramel chocolate covered pretzels, double dipped chocolate covered peanuts, and pumpkin crème cookies were my haul for today while my partner stocked up on some cheeses. He loves cheese. We went on a driving trip and one of our stops was Cleveland, as we were driving to Indianapolis I researched must see things on the way. Grandpas Cheesebarn came up, I checked out the website and HAD to go. So glad we did! The place is so cute. They had Christmas music playing (we went Nov 1st). It felt like we were at Santas work shop for cheese and sweets. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Everyone greeted you and asked if you needed anything, showed you around and even let you sample all the cheeses you wanted! The guys in the cheese shop were very knowledgeable of the different cheeses as well. After we tasted and bought a bunch of cheese and snacks (19 year old sharp cheese, port wine cheese, wheat crackers, honey mustard pretzels and honey sesame pieces, even a knife (since we were traveling, we could eat it in our hotel!) we went next door to Sweeties chocolate shop (where they make almost all of their chocolates in house). OMG the chocolate was SOOO good! I wish I had gotten more while we were there. We got the pecan turtles and salted caramels. To die for!! - They had little Knick knack and crafty things to buy, toys for kids etc. Excellent. Id highly recommend stopping by!! read more

Love Grandpa's Cheesebarn! We stop here all the time when heading down 71 South and now there's one closer!! Big fan of the Ohio Swiss and of course just about everything in that place. Who doesnt want to gorge on a endless options of fine cheese and fine chocolates. Glad they make sandwiches too, had one the other day with a very generous portion of meats and cheeses! I've been to Grandpa's many times when I travel between Cleveland and Columbus. All of their products are great. I like the wide variety of cheese. What upsets me is stopping there only to find out they're closed. Most recently this occurred on Wednesday. The place was supposed to be open until 6 pm. Arrived at 5 and saw the closed sign. This is the 4th time this has happened. If you're going to advertise your hours then you should be open. read more

I am SOOOOO estates that GCB opened another location, and that it's only 15 minutes away instead of an hour. The new store is super cute and the chocolates/ candies are on one side, and the cheeses, jerky, meat, etc are on the other. I'm sure if you've ever driven to Cleveland from Columbus, or taken 71 past Ashland, you've seen Grandpa's Cheesebarn right at the side of the road. Well, this review isn't about that Cheesebarn! This is a shout out to a 2nd location on route 76 close to Massilon that I didn't even know existed until about 5 days ago! Owned by the same people but a bit smaller, this location is only a half mile off exit 14 and isn't even that crowded! What do I love about Grandpa's Cheesebarn? How about the fact that you can sample every cheese they have in the store before deciding to buy one. And I mean EVERY cheese, and they have quite a large selection! I ended up just grabbing the Asiago and Onion cheese spread, which was delicious, but the port wine cheddar and almost all of the Swiss cheese were great too. I did end up getting a bunch of Sweetie's chocolates which they have an entire half of the spot dedicated to. The homemade chocolate peanut butter cups and salted chocolate and caramel treats are amazing! Few of them made it back to Columbus. This is a great place to grab a gift for somebody, especially if you're on your way to Akron, Cleveland, or Columbus to visit and need a last second present. Everyone here is extremely helpful and will answer any questions you have. You can pretty much sample everything in the store, so don't be overwhelmed looking at the massive selection! read more

Fun and Yum! You can't beat that! You can try ALL their cheeses...and I live in a dairy state with a lot of cheese factories--and I was impressed! They have fantastic ice cream, and their for sale items are eclectic and fun. I loved the spiritual influence, as well. It's a great place to take the kids, and let them see that cheese does not all come in plastic wrap. They also have fantastic meats. Stopped by on Sunday. I actually like the layout better than the Ashland store - more elbow room, clean, and uncluttered. Samples available for almost everything except the candy. Prices are a little high compared to what you can get going down to the Holmes county stores, but someone has to pay for all the samples. read more
