If you are looking for some delicious southern cooking from an actual grandma in her kitchen, then this is your spot! When I walked in and saw two actual grandmas eating and an actual grandma cooking. I knew this was going to be good. Just like any grandmas kitchen. The food is ready when it's ready, don't rush the process and you better clean your plate. I really felt like I just visited my granny"s house. The food was delicious. We got one of the family meals that came with 3 chicken wings 3 fried ribs, 2 fried pork chops and two sides. The collard greens were so flavorful and had big chunks of pork in it. Staff were very nice and kind they welcomed everyone that walked through the door. The food was ok the fried ribs were delicious but had a lot of red when biting into it near the bone on a few pieces. The collard greens and Mac were both good. I would definitely give this place another try because the seasoning on the ribs were a hit. Do you like southern food and warm hospitality? Then this is your kind of place. This is not fast food. You may have to wait fifteen minutes or so for everything to be ready after you order: but oh, it is so worth it! And you won't be able to get everything every day. Check the blackboard when you enter to see what's being served that day. And when they run out, that's that. We came for lunch. There are 4 tables inside and we were able to find a seat. They do a lot of takeout. We got an order of their fried ribs with collard greens and yams. It came with sweet corn bread muffins. We shared. The fried ribs were meaty and seasoned perfectly. Very, very good. The collards were spectacular with little bits of meat in them. I'm particular about collards. Very rarely like them in a restaurant, but these were great. We also got to try their Mac n cheese which I also really liked. No mushy pasta here and it was thick and cheesy. My husband tried their banana pudding, too. It was good, but it's usually made on the weekends so the cookies were softer than he usually likes. It didn't stop him from eating it all though. This soul food restaurant opened 3 months ago. I did a phone order and picked it up at LUNCHTIME. I ordered the fried catfish with string beans and yellow rice. I wish they sold sandwiches because the "dinner" only menu is a bit much if you have to return back to work. All meat dishes come with 2 sides. I also ordered a "flop" which is sweet iced tea and lemonade. When I walked in I was greeted and told I was right on time because it had just came out the kitchen. I was happy about that. The establishment has about 4 or 5 tables inside that you can eat at. They weren't crowded, as only 1 couple were occupying a table. Ok as for the good it was ehhhh, OK. Yea just ok. The catfish meal is $15.95, pricey, and you get a fish cut up into 4 pieces and tasted like cornmeal only, no seasoning. The yellow rice was EXTREMELY SALTY. As we know yellow rice has its own seasonings in it so there no reason to add additional salt. I couldn't eat it. The string/green beans are out of the can and has smoked turkey added w/ a lemon garlic seasoning. They were actually good but hate that they were out of the can. I think I may have caught them on an off day. The food was very much subpar and it may have been because the cooks are super young and appear to know their way around the kitchen yet. The gentleman in the front (who also happened to be the owner) was so sweet and let us know right away that the wait for food would be about an hour, which we happily waited. I went here because of the hype. Let me address something real fast there was a stench when you walk in this establishment. So I briefly waited for my food outside. Visited here with my husband and ordered take out. Staff was helpful and polite and I always love great service. They didn't have everything available on the menu but they did have a good selection available. So let's jump into the food! The portions are really good for the price. We received plenty of food! My husband had fish, candy yams and greens. His fish was great! It was Swai rather than the catfish as posted on the website, but it was very good. The candy yams were also really good, while the greens were just ok. I had the lemon pepper chicken wings, Mac and cheese and string beans. When we arrived there are about four customers dining in the restaurant and five employees talking amongst themselves. My husband found this restaurant, and we tried so many items from the menu. The owner, Jaharvis, is wonderful and has his beautiful niece's helping him with the business. They can cook. Doesn't appear to be fully operational yet with limited menu selections and hours that don't match the website. When we visited they had no fountain drinks but the food we had was really good and large portions. I had fried ribs with Mac n cheese and collard greens and it was delicious.
