I tried the potato and funghi slices of Grandaisy Bakery's Roman-styled pizza and was pleasantly surprised to find how good they were. The former was especially a standout; the thinly sliced crispy potato was amazing. The combination of the potato with the onion and rosemary on super thin flatbread was perfection. This was a surprise hit for me; it was even better than the mushroom pizza, which I tend to love. Besides cremini mushrooms, the thyme and sea salt were subtle and yet added so much delicious flavor. Their cauliflower flatbread and zucchini flatbreads are among my favorite bites in nyc (and I don't eve like cauliflower usually!) The current 3.5 star rating for Grand Daisy Bakery is the biggest travesty of justice I've seen on Yelp. Grand Daisy is the best bakery. Period. To recap: - Pizza bianca, the best focaccia style of bread I have eaten. The olive oil, flake salt, and rosemary are in perfect harmony. - Roman pizza, I like them all with the potato being my favorite hands down, followed by the fungi. I would order a slice of both for lunch. - I have had several of different types of their loafs of bread and they are all good and extremely affordable. - Sandwiches, the il caprese (seasonally in summer) is pure heaven, all the ingredients are so fresh. It's a crime that this place isn't better known. I've been eating their Rome-style pizza for more than 22 years and it's still as good today as it was decades ago. Consistently delicious staples (potato, marinara, mushroom) as well as seasonal flavors that come and go (zucchini, cauliflower, squash, etc). We were so sad when Grandaisy left the UWS a few years ago, so of course we were overjoyed to remember the downtown location on one of those Sundays when we just didn't know what to nosh on. Our beloved pizzas were just as delicious as we remembered. The toppings are golden on the outside and soft on the inside. There's a perfectly salty goodness balanced by the occasional fresh herb. Crust is perfectly crisp and never stiff or soggy-floppy (the two cardinal sins of pizza crust). Although I have found similarly tasty pizzas at an establishment more conveniently located to me on 47th between 10th and 11th, Grandaisy will always be near and dear to my heart, and I'll gladly make the occasional pilgrimage. read more

The iced coffee is good; the staff is lovely however; the shop is legitimately over 100 degrees. It is 90 in nyc today, and i walked into the store and almost passed out. Now, i have worked in service, and i understand that things happen and the show must go on. When i asked how long, expecting a couple of days... maybe a week? I was told YEARS. I am writing this review only to say to the owners that they should really be ashamed of having their staff work throughout the summer in truly sweltering conditions. As someone who does hot yoga, many of the studios i go to are *less hot than this establishment*. Efficient. Two people in line in front of me, and I was being served within 2 minutes. I do wish they had some type of menu, because it's a little tight to read what's in the sandwiches, while someone else is paying. I picked up one of the turkey and arugula sandwiches, and a flourless chocolate muffin. The sandwich was "right sized" in saying it wasn't generous in portion, putting the $9.50 price tag as just a tad expensive, but I know people gotta pay the bills. The sandwich was very good. The turkey was moist and everything in the sandwich complimented each other. The cranberry ginger jam was so good. I wish they sold the jam! Randomly decided to stop by this bakery because we saw that they had a few catering trucks so it must be good? Glad we did. We wanted a simple snack as we were planning to walk around. This bakery was near our bus stop from Philly. Just got an almond croissant and it was made well! A bit too much powdered sugar on the outside but it ended up not being too sweet. Review for a pickup! Ordered my breakfast before work and it was ready for pickup extremely fast. The line was a tad long but I realized later I shouldn't have waited in line but picked it up at the small window per directions I ordered a latte and a Zucca flat bread. The latte was good and so was the Zucca flat bread. The Zucca flat bread had the perfect hint of sweet from the sweet potato and the bread was the perfect crispy but they could prolly go a little easy on the oil in the flat bread. Roman pizza isn't easy to find in NY. There's only a few places that do it outright, let alone right. One happens to be my office, so I decided to check out Grandaisy. Slices here are served cold which can be off putting but is typical for bakeries who make this kind of pizza. There were ~6 options of which all were veggie-heavy. Price was reasonable and while the pizza wasn't fresh out of the oven, it was sliced fresh. The tomato slice was slather in a heavy tomato paste. It was alright but very one-note in terms of flavor. It was better at first but I grew tired of it by the time I finished. The butternut squash slice was much better. The gouda, onions, breadcrumbs and sage lent a more complex and enjoyable flavor profile. The crust here was much better on a corner slice; it had a nice, bready character to it that was lot with the tomato slice. The main downside were the large pieces of sage which were overkill and prevented this from being as good as it could've been. For ~$7 for 2 slices, you can do much worse in this area. I'd come back for the butternut squash slice but wouldn't get the tomato slice again. Guess they had so many veggie slices for a reason! read more

This small little bakery looks like many other bakeries in NY, but they make delicious thin crust pizza! Their Pizza Biancas are covered in a single type of thinly sliced vegetable.
