Somehow we didn't get the hype memo, as our order was far from a grand one. I'm glad the business is doing well so I'm sharing an honest opinion of the fried chicken and shrimp sandwich. The staff was surprised to have business on a weekend afternoon, and just sat under the cash register. Within our order, the fried shrimp sandwich came loaded in a crunchy patty with beans & veggies inside toasted buns. I was anticipating a good bite; the only problem was that it was rock hard without much flavour. Since I don't like wasting food, I didn't toss it out. The spicy chicken was crispy and seasoned well similar to Taiwanese fried chicken. Its only drawback was that the spice seasoning was quite salty. Not as ultra crispy as Taiwanese night market chicken but it'll do. One benefit of this location is that dessert is only a stone's throw away. The nearby Wooffles & Cream stall is always busy. The rest of this quiet food court seemed to have fallen on harder times during the pandemic though a return to office may help boost lunch business. Tried out a bunch of different things from Grandone's menu. I love how they have a great variety from chicken to seafood options - sandwiches, chicken, wings, tenders and more. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant - 10/10 customer service! The chicken was delicious - flavourful and crispy! The spice level wasn't to high, so it was just perfect for me. My favourite sandwich was fish sandwich - so delicious and flavourful. The chicken sandwich was also delicious and juicy! Opening is listed as 11 am so when I got there just before 11:45 am I was surprised that it didn't look like they were open yet. Apparently they were running behind today and would be open at noon. The man told me that the promotion was over but since I was already there I asked if my order could be taken. After a bit of fiddling with their ordering and payment system and it not working the man wrote down my order instead and asked that I come back just after noon. When I went back there were some takeout bags on the counter so I went to inquire about my order. It'd be another few minutes and I was asked if I wanted mild or spicy fried chicken. There payment system was still not functioning and I didn't have any cash on me. They generously gave me the order on the house! I was in a bit of shock but told them I'd come back another time. Finally able to come by for some takeout after reading about this place. Plus friends of ours highly recommended us to give this place a try. They are located in the same plaza as the infamous ice cream joint I wrote a review sometime last year (Don Mills, south of York Mills). This place is new and in a food court that is at only 50% capacity. With the pandemic, all the tables and seats are taped off. But it's all good. So we came by to order some food and after browsing their menu, we decided to grab 4 pieces original flavour, a chicken sandwich original flavour and sweet potato fries + onion rings. After 15 mins or so wait, our food was ready. We grabbed it and drove at a "steady pace" home. When we got home, the chicken and the sandwich were still warm cause the packaging was done pretty decently. After 1st bite, the chicken was super juicy. And then I took a bite into the original chicken sandwich, the chicken was very juicy, and its HUGE! The meat tasted flavourful, and I can still taste the chicken. The fries and onion rings are alright? So there were 2 pieces of chicken for leftover, and we saved it for next day lunch. We popped the chicken into the air fryer. As I am typing this, I have to share my joy with my fellow Yelpers, I am eating my second shrimp burger. Totally worth the wait and getting fat for. The batter is light and as you bite into the burger, you can taste pieces of small shrimps with corn inside. A new joint offering a 50% off all menu items spot opened up...well ya know where I'm going! It's located in a weird spot - inside a "food court" area in a strip mall on Don Mills. Lots of free parking, and you can wait inside while they prepare your order. Since they make it fresh, be prepared to wait 15-20. I ordered the Shrimp sandwich and the 3 piece spicy fried chicken. The Shrimp sandwich is pretty good - shrimp patty (there are real pieces of shrimp inside), cheese, thousand island sauce - make it the perfect after work bite. At half price I think I paid around $4. The fried chicken- the spicy isn't that spicy. It's like some spicy dust coating on it, not fried into the batter. The fried chicken is crispy and not greasy, and juicy. I even had a piece leftover for the next day and it retained it's crisp! For half price- definitely a good option. The staff person is so nice. Location/Service This place is located in a new strip plaza (along Don Mills), right beside LA Fitness. It's inside a food court (next to Woffles and Cream). Plenty of parking and seating available - obviously can't do indoor seating right now, but nice to know it would be available in the future. Staff were friendly and nice - and I like how they have contactless payment. But it was very difficult trying to order via phone - the line was constantly jammed (even at different times), perhaps it was just the volume and the new promos they are introducing. Food Ordered the 3 pc crispy chicken (original). Loved it! The chicken pieces were big in size - the skin is crispy (like its name) while the meat is still juicy and tender. I also don't feel like overly fat/oily compared to other places that do fried chicken. Also tried the chicken sandwich - originally I wanted to order the shrimp one - but miscommunication through the masks. But nevertheless, it is also very good too - with similar tastes and consistently as the fried chicken. This place is a little out of reach for me - but it's nice to see there's more selection and variety near that area. It's probably safer to stick to the shrimp sandwich, fries & onion rings. It came with free gravy, which was nice, but the gravy was mediocre - even on its own it didn't have much flavour. Sides are cheap - $1.99 for a regular side & the fries were a good size for the price. The fries were good - crispy & dusted so they had some texture. The onion rings were pretty good. They had quite a thick batter. The coleslaw salad was so-so: a bit raw with a generic dressing flavour that didn't penetrate the vegetables. Shrimp sandwiches aren't common. Theirs was good - crispy & full of whole shrimp, which were quite bouncy. There was not a lot of filler. Truthfully, I jumped on the 50% off hype when Grandone Chicken first opened and ate there for 3 consecutive weekends in a row (probably would've given them 5 stars after my first visit). But after my third visit, I never went back. Pros: Portion and cost. For 50% off, it's hard to go wrong. At my first visit, I was getting delicious large juicy pieces of chicken and even the sandwich had a big piece of chicken that was great value. However, both of these things were temporary. I noticed by my second and third visit that the pieces were getting smaller and for the "4pc", they were giving 3 drumsticks:1 breast instead of the usual 2:2. The seasoning was also poorly distributed as one piece would have none while the other piece would be over-dusted. That being said, I felt that it was still a pretty decent option at 50% off but I just don't think it'll have the same attraction once the 50% off is over. Cons: Consistency and following instructions. My first visit took over a 1 hour wait and I think the employees had somehow lost my order because they couldn't find their copy of my receipt (when I showed them my copy). The second and third visit, they had either completely ignored my instructions (i.e. it was hand-written on their copy of the receipt "no sauce" and they still put sauce) or completely left out an item (i.e. when I opened the takeout bag in my car, an entire 4pc box was missing)!! I do believe staff were all flustered with more orders than they could handle because of the 50% off promotion but instead of slowing down their intake, they attempted to play "catch up" which led to several experiences for me that were all quite lackluster and frankly, a bit frustrating. Overall, I felt that my dining experiences with them got progressively worse with each visit so I stopped going. Massive chicken. I ordered the 2 piece and chicken tenders. I liked the richness of the gravy and that it wasn't super salty. I thought the chicken tenders were a bit dry compared to the two piece chicken but still really nice. I left the seasoned it well and you can see it in the breading itself. It's not one that's very noticeable unless you're either from the area or purposely visiting that area. The food court is quite quiet, with maybe max 6 restaurants there, especially during COVID. It's actually in the same food court as Woofles. A lot of fried chickens can be a hit or miss, either too dry on the inside or not enough crunch on the outside. Grandone does it just right, especially with the flavours. The skin is nice and crunchy with just the right amount of seasoning without being overly salty. The inside is super tender and juicy. I'm surprised this place isn't more well known. My only complaint would probably be the speed of the service. I had to wait for close to 30 min for my order as the previous orders were still not completed so everything was just lagging. My order however still came out hot and fresh, and it didn't disappoint. Ordered once and it was great... ordered the next 2 times and it was awful. They messed up our order on both of those occasions, to the extent that Uber Eats refunded us our entire order and then some. What better way to celebrate the weekend with a feast with Grand One. I have tried Grand One_ earlier this year and was super impressed with their fish burger and their fried chicken. I love how crispy the coating is of the chicken but yet the batter isn't too thick and hard. The chicken is succulent and juicy and not dry! The items that I tried this time around were the Shrimp burger, Chicken burger, Fish burger and 4 pc of chicken (spicy/non spicy) and of course their delicious gravy for dipping. Each burger was super juicy and of course very very big! I could barely unhinge my jaw to bite into these monsters! My favorite of course is still their fish burger but the shrimp burger is a close second! My gosh it was so flavorful and juicy and blended perfectly with the melted Cheddar cheese and mayo. The fried chicken and chicken strips are delicious, especially the ones covered in the spicy powder! It wasn't super crunchy when I had it, but it was definitely very flavorful. I wanted to love this as much as everyone else but it was just OK. I came here while they were having their 50% off promotion because my friend hyped it up. We drove separately because of COVID, and she had a large order for her family and I only got the shrimp sandwich because she said it was a must try. She ordered first and they let her know that it would be an hour wait!!! I figured I might as well wait too because I had already made the trip out there lol. It ended up taking over an hour and when I got home the sandwich was already pretty soggy, but I'm sure it would've been much better fresh. Went here because they're having 50% off in January, I think their quality is like Popeyes standard. I paid 24.85 for 16pc, 4sides (you can choose sweet potato fries/ onion rings with no extra charges) and two large drink. With this price, I have very saitisfied with their food lol. The one BIG down side is that you have to order early and I don't mean 15minutes earlier, I meant 60minutes. Because they're very slow, don't expect to be able to wait at the food court. May be after the promotion, they might not have as much traffic then the line will be a lot smoother. I called at 11am sharp so I was actually their first client of tand can get my order within 30minutes and when I arrived there were a good 10 orders after me. Not sure why they are getting 5 stars....maybe because of their 50% off promotion deal but I've been here twice and I wasn't really blown away by any of items. My first visit the chicken was cold like it was sitting out for a while and their onion rings are not my cup of tea....I prefer onion rings from Harvey's or Johnny's hamburger, but that's just my preference of the type of batter I like for my rings.
