Honey Walnut Prawn

Authentic and traditional dishes. Our to go for Chinese foods for 5 years. A must place to visit on your way up to Tahoe or visiting Hangtown, downtown Placerville.

Combination chow fun (dry)

My husband and I were in Placerville last weekend for a dog show and were hungry for some Chinese food after. I quickly checked Yelp and Grand China came highly recommended. We saw that the restaurant was out of the way in a quiet area of Placerville. As it was the Memorial Day weekend, we did not want to go anywhere near downtown. So this worked out great for us. Upon arrival, we were only one of two couples in the restaurant. It was very quiet and peaceful, and the booths were extremely comfortable. Our eyes were drawn to the lunch specials immediately. For only $12 this was a steal, and I was very happy to find that wonton soup was served with our meal! Usually you only get a choice of hot and sour or egg flower soup at other establishments. I chose the shrimp with black bean sauce and my husband chose the Mongolian beef. We also got a combination chow fun to share. Our wonton soups were at our table in no time, and when I say this is one of the best wonton soups I've had at a Chinese-American restaurant, I'm not kidding. The broth was clear while full of flavor, and the wontons themselves were delicious and the skins were not overcooked, as can be common. The soups were devoured in minutes. Next, our lunch specials arrived in less than 15 minutes, and we were certainly not ready for the portion sizes at all. While we were hungry, we definitely knew that there would be leftovers for home, especially since we also got a dish to share. All the flavors were on point, and I loved how saucy my black bean shrimp was. I got to try a bit of my husband's Mongolian beef and that was excellent too. The fried rice was your typical flavor, but I would have liked to see more of the "wok hay." We tried the chow fun next and while it was pretty good, I was also expecting a "wok hay" flavor, which I did not taste. I'd like to try some other noodle dishes next time, but this was not my favorite. However, the pieces of meat were huge for what we paid ($12). We ended up bringing a bunch of leftovers home, and I'm quite happy to find this restaurant tucked away in Placerville, where there is a dearth of Asian food. The service was also awesome and very friendly. Our waters were refilled and we were checked on promptly. I'd love to return and try other dishes Grand China has to offer!

Great food and service! We had honey walnut prawns, generals chicken, chow mein, crab Rangoon's and sweet and sour soup. Hardly anything left to take home!

Delicious food and fast, wonderful service . Our dishes were prepared promptly and were delicious ! I especially loved their hot and sour soup .

The food was amazing they were lighting quick with my food it was a great experience, I would come here again for sure great food and great service

Boyfriend has been raving about this spot, and I finally got the chance to try it today! When I tell you this is NOW one of my favorite Chinese American restaurants I have ever been to, it really is! The staff were sweet and casually chat and welcome their customers. I got the sesame chicken and it was sweet, tangy, the teensiest bit spicy and just overall the best. Their lunch special 11-13$) is an insane deal for a great amount of food. It contains an egg roll, wonton cracker, your choice of entree from list, fried rice/white rice, an orange slice, and a side of wonton soup. TRULY IF YOU ARE IN THIS AREA AND WANT A GOOD DEAL AND SOME YUMMY FOOD DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND CHECK THEM OUT!

Tucked away in a business/retail park on Golden Circle in Placerville's busy Missouri Flat District is this gem of a friendly and clean Chinese American restaurant. We have two or three Chinese restaurants in my town but I drive 8 miles to this place because it is cleaner, friendlier and has great portions and menu options. The proteins are also very generous and good. I think the food is above average Chinese American but it feels less greasy then some Chinese places which makes it a bunch healthier for you. Unless if you eat all the portions they give you here, you might have a bloated stomach. It is popular with the locals because it has been here for years and does pretty well, even though it has no real "busy road frontage". Locals seem to love it. You should give it a try when in the neighborhood.

Delicious house special beef, Happy Family, Sesame chicken.

The kitchen is very accessible so you can literally hear and probably watch them (if you choose to look) prepare your food which I thought was pretty cool. There's no reheating here; all of the food is prepared on demand. My daughter and I each ordered a special combo: one Mongolian beef and one orange chicken. They were both delicious and the portions were very generous so we ended up taking some home. I strongly recommend supporting this restaurant. The food was great and service was very efficient and friendly.

Iron Wok was special, then the pandemic hit, and the dream started to fade. Well the new owner has challenges, I had to send my Orange Chicken Lunch plate back. It simply was not edible for me. The chicken was rubbery, perhaps a fact of too much heat in the cooking process. It felt like I was eating a ligament, not a piece of white meat chicken. My wife's Kung Pao Shrimp was nothing great but edible. Service was acceptable, place was clean. But the food won't have me coming back. The fine art of great food is a gift, some have it, and some don't.

We arrived a few minutes after 3 pm, when the restaurant opens for dinner. As you can imagine, we were a large group who were all hungry and ready to eat. We decided to go with the family dinner (special B) option that gives you the choice to select about a dozen menu items to share family style. This option also comes with soup, pork fried rice, egg rolls and fried shrimp for $18.50 a person. The ambience was quiet and similar to many other Chinese restaurants. They have booths and tables for smaller parties and larger rounded tables with a Lazy Susan for larger groups. The service was great. I was surprised how quickly all of the food came out. One plate after another, and suddenly the table was packed with hot food ready to eat. Everyone working was friendly and attentive, filling our cups with water, providing extra napkins, and checking on us frequently if we needed anything else. Oh, and the food was so good. I particularly loved the fried rice, broccoli beef, orange chicken, and Mongolian beef. To be honest, all of the food was delicious, but those stood out to me from the other plates we ordered. There was so much food that we couldn't eat everything, so we had plenty of takeout boxes to take food home. For the price of the family dinner options, you can't go wrong with a great price and the amount of food you get. It's very much worth it. If you are with a large group of friends and find yourself in Cameron Park, I highly recommend coming to China City to eat. You won't be disappointed. It's a hidden gem tucked away in a strip mall off of Highway 50.
