They did have a gluten free menu and provide gluten free soy sauce. The beef and broccoli was fine, and the broccoli nice and crunchy. The honey walnut prawns were different than I've had at other Chinese restaurants (in the Bay Area). Puffier and crunchier with a lighter sweeter sauce. I didn't prefer it, but I think a lot of people might like their version. The customer service was friendly. I did not like the Szechuan chicken at all. The sauce was extremely tart, very high vinegar content, only had a slight spice. My favorite Chinese restaurant is Szechuan and I've never had anything like thIs dish at another restaurant. Two dishes we got (Szechuan and Chow fun) were drenched in sauce. They literally had twice as much as would be needed or desired. We had to move the sauce aside so the food wasn't way to strong. Also the sauce seemed overly goopy. Possibly it was more noticeable since they added too much sauce and I know most Chinese restaurants thicken their sauces as well. read more

If I could give negative starts I would. This used to be my favorite place around. We would go in or get take out at least four or five times a month. It was basically a food group in our house-especially the pot stickers, we would get 3 or more orders at a time and eat them for days. That is not the case anymore. Over the last several months it has been getting worse and worse, especially the pot stickers. They now have no meat, are made with way too much oil and leaves a slime inside. Today was the worst ever. Food was cold, dripping oil and pot stickers were pure mush inside. Out of the whole order I ate half of one. Seriously, I have had better pot stickers from the frozen section of the gas station. To say this place is no longer a food group in our house would be a major understatement. The dishes are served hot and in good size portions. Their ingredients have always been fresh and they don't scrimp on the meats and seafoods. I am utterly perplexed how this place is even open. The worst Chinese food I've had since Bel Air supermarkets (yes, I'd take Bel Air any day over this place!) I ordered two lunch specials for myself and my husband. He had the sesame chicken, I had the almond chicken. Both meals come with an egg roll and a choice between fried or steamed rice. Although my egg roll was the highlight of the meal, my husband said his tasted sour. We both had fried rice, which was devoid of flavor. The chicken in my almond chicken still had fat on it, every single piece I managed to get down my throat I was picking the fat off of, gross! The almond chicken has no sauce to speak of (you know how usually the Chinese style sauce is what makes the dish!) OMG I wouldn't pay $2 for the meal I spent $20 on (that included tip). It was simply chopped up cabbage with a few thin pieces of mushroom (no exaggeration) and a few more than a few tiny shrimp... for over $10 really? Yes, another Chinese food review from me!! Ordered the Kung Pao Chicken Lunch special and was very impressed. The ingredients were fresh and delicious. The restaurant was very clean and they had my order ready to go. The price is about average, maybe a tad high but worth it. I particularly liked the fact that they had an egg roll and fried cheese wonton as appetizers and even took the time to dip them in sweet and sour before they put them in the box. The fried rice was tasty and when I asked for hot mustard they gave me homemade "house mustard" rather than the little packets which makes a world of difference in my opinion. I'm always happy that a Chinese restaurant offers combo plates for both lunch and dinner. The only reason they got 4 instead of 5 stars is due to the freakin' fact that this is yet another Chinese place that won't give you soup on take out orders even though with Covid there are ONLY take out orders! The menu was more impressive than I'm used to seeing at similar restaurants, with much more variation in dishes and lots of choices. The spicy dishes, however, weren't particularly spicy. Perhaps the staff took the initiative to dull down the heat a bit so that my children could eat it also. But there was so little heat that my two year old had no complaints. The person on the phone was very friendly and let me know the chicken was not fried, which was good as many Chinese restaurants do fry that dish. I verified that it was spicy and was told yes it was and it is very good. My husband picked the order up on the way home. Pork Chow mein was delish, not greasy and lots of strips of BBQ pork. I would order this again for sure. Portion was a good size. The General Tao Chicken, was NOT SPICY at all but the exact opposite. A good amount of pounded out chicken breast swimming in a very sweet sauce. If I had been craving a sweet dish the overall rating would be 4. Since I really wanted spicy I was disappointed. The evening we ate there, they closed at 9PM. At 8:52 they said, " we close now!" The food was tasteless, and it came out way too fast to give me the impression that it had been sitting around waiting for an order. The shrimp in the house fried rice was very fishy (fresh seafood doesn't smell like fish!). The orange beef was partially cold and had a bit of an old meat taste. The general chicken we ordered was bland, no spice at all. The restaurant overall was clean and had a nice updated feel. However, all dishes were greatly under seasoned and bland. A generous splash of soy sauce helped a lot. Without it, the food would have been inedible. Still, I liked the chow mein noodles texture better than Diamond Chinese in Diamond Springs, so I would go here and ask for extra soy sauce if I had to choose between the two. This is the BEST Chinese restaurant in the El Dorado County area! My family and I have eaten here many, many times and it has always been consistently wonderful: food, service, price, atmosphere...you name it! We love it so much that we have made it tradition to eat here every Christmas Eve. My mouth is watering just writing this review and thinking about this restaurant. We were so sad to see this restaurant close a couple of months ago (complications between the building owner and the bank), which was practically like losing a family member! But, they have just reopened just a couple of weeks ago and we are so thrilled to see them back in business! This place is as good as it gets... Enjoy! read more
