By far the BEST bagels in Lancaster!!! I've been a loyal customer for years and have seen this place go from a neighborhood favorite to extremely popular. Not a bad little breakfast joint! The line was long but moved quickly as did my meal. I had Taylor ham, egg, and cheese on a Asiago roll and it was great. Fresh egg, the ham was thicker than I'm used to and that was nice, and they grilled the roll since they couldn't toast it. The roll was the hero here, so soft and fresh inside with a nice toast from the grill. It's busy inside, lots of traffic in and out and everybody seems to know everybody. If toasted just right, it can be chewy within, crisp on the outside, with ample toppings to choose from (garlic, onion, salt, poppy seed, everything, asiago). Their jalapeno cheddar, packs a powerful punch of heat. They have sweet and savory bagels. I'm a creature of habit and as such, always gets the Long Island Lox - capers are extra. Some tips I'll share with you: go during the week, because the weekends, especially Sundays, are madness. If you're a fan of lox as well, if you ask for it open faced, they'll not make it into an overwhelming glob of cream cheesy lox sandwich. The rice krispies bar - GET IT; it's so good. Also, these folks don't skimp on the lox nor the capers, Yesss!! I do find flaw with transferring of communication between customer, to cashier to the sandwich makers. Several times, I've asked for my bagel to be toasted twice; this never happens. I have asked for items to be omitted from my sandwich and when received, they're still there. Also, I find their cream cheese to be weak, in flavor. I'll often get a dozen, but purchase the cream cheese elsewhere. Don't forget to request freezer bags; they're a must. read more

Today we returned for bagels and to try some concoctions. We both found our sandwiches to be overly bread forward, mine in focaccia and my companion's on a bagel, with too little filling to level it out. I removed the top of my bread and then found the interior to be lacking flavor. We'll stick with the bagels (as if we have a choice in this bagel desert). read more

Let me preface this by saying my first and only visit to this restaurant was a day when they were slammed. Not a single seat was available. I came in the side door. The coffee station was in front of me. It took me a moment to orient myself and a)find a complete menu and b) find the place to put in my order. After standing in a line behind equally confused people, I finally made it to the register, where a woman of mature stature practically snapped at me as I ordered. No pleasantries, no smile, no patience, no kindness. I felt like if I didn't immediately pay her and get the heck out of her way I was going to suffer the wrath. I ordered a bacon egg and Swiss on a cheddar jalapeño bagel. There was no real area for any guests waiting for their food to stand where they weren't in the way. But I did have a clear view of the kitchen where 6 or so people were preparing bagel dough and it looked like 4 younger/middle aged women were standing by the grille obviously complaining. Eventually sandwiches were made. I was excited for it. I was kind of let down. The sandwich was dry. I guess I should have requested some butter or another lubricating condiment. The egg was solidly fried. I'm not going to complain about that other than it added to the dryness of the sandwich. The bacon was crisp and crumbly. The cheese was not an exceptional Swiss. But for $5.95 I'm not going to complain. Overall the vibe was stressed. I don't think I'll be going back. The Bob Evan's or the Friendlies down the street probably have friendlier and more flavorful options. read more

The bagels are very good but the service today was ridiculously bad. Placed an online order. Said to pick up at 10:05. After asking several times 10:10,10:20, and then finally at 10:30 they told me they lost my order. Quickly made my sandwich and then throw 2 bagels in a bag one of which was suppose to be toasted and have cream cheese. Nope. I didn't see the owner there today so maybe that was the problem. This cafe is just amazing, with a lot of options for your coffee, tea, pastry, bread, bagel, smoothie,breakfast, brunch, and protein shake. You name it, they got it. Check out their timings before you plan a visit. They have a shared parking lot, and it gets busy. The Cafe also was super busy when I visited around 11.00 am. and at least 20 customers waiting to place an order. But the staff turns out the orders much faster. The prices are very reasonable too. I ordered a pumpernickel bagel toasted with jalapeño cheddar cheese, and it was delicious and made perfect. I also ordered hot Chai latte and definitely better than other places I had. I also noticed a lot of repeated customers on the line suggesting us to try several of their delicacies. The interior has a lot of tables and also they maintained it very well. There is a food pickup area if you place a phone order. They do have a restroom. The outdoor seating is also available. This place is a must try !! read more

Solid choice in Lancaster for New York style bagels! Came here on a Sunday right at 7 AM when they opened, and was shocked at the line that quickly formed! I knew this place would be good after seeing that. Considering how busy it was, ordering and getting our food was relatively quick and easy. I had an everything bagel toasted, with extra garlic and herb cream cheese. Delicious!! The bagel was SO fresh and perfectly chewy and crispy. The cream cheese was amazing. I think I will stop back in and order some cream cheese to go. We will definitely be returning to try more of their menu! read more

Stopped by Grand Central to pick up a dozen bagels everyone has been talking about. When I walked in the door I was met with a very friendly staff of folks. It was quite busy for a Monday mid morning. I decided to try one of their sandwiches from menu on the wall. Lots of selection and they all sounded delicious. Sandwiches were named after different things and places you would find in New York City. I went with the Rockefeller. ( roast beef, horseradish sauce, red onions, tomatoes, on a cheddar roll). WOW!! Was it amazing and fresh. It was so good that even though I wanted to eat the whole thing, I saved Half to bring home to the wife. Lol On my way out I grabbed a baker's dozen (13) of bagels, which they even gave me freezer bags for. I will definitely be back to try other menu items. read more

Do not order online. I used to be a huge fan of this establishment, until recently. Multiple times now within the past month my orders have been wrong. Coffees that I ordered with cream and flavor have been just given to me black. Today, the cup just had flavor in it and absolutely no coffee or ice. For years, I loved this place the food the service was so pleasant. They have the most scrumptious crumb cakes and fresh bagels I buy them by the tray. I travel from Stroudsburg to Lancaster 148 miles to be exact!!!!!. But the customer service has gotten so bad. The lady who's on the phone is so rude now. I tried to place my regular order for a tray of crumb cake, but the woman was so rude she hung up on me twice because I wouldn't give my credit card number over the phone. (She said she's the manager) She was so rude and unpleasant, she made it seem like I was bothering her trying to place an order. I understand policies change but when I explained I'm not comfortable with giving my credit card number I can't order and hung up on me! I'm in town for a wedding and my hotel is a few miles down the street, so since I don't have a car I thought I'd walk here for some coffee. It was just okay; tomorrow morning I'll get an Uber and go somewhere else. This place is definitely grand central station on a Saturday morning. The first thing I thought was kind of weird is they have signs at the registers saying the prices on the menu aren't accurate. That's kind of important and should definitely be updated ASAP. Once I got to the counter to order, I told her what I wanted and once she was done asking all the follow up questions, I said no cheese. She then told me that I should have said that first because something about "these kids don't pay attention and will mess up my order" and that she had to start over again.... In my defense, I did try to say no cheese immediately after saying the item name but before I could even take a breath, she was asking me all the other questions. It was just an odd encounter and I thought "the kids" were actually hustling pretty hard back there. I placed my order at 8:40 and it was ready at 8:55. So 15 minutes. Not really a big deal considering how busy they were (there were probably 8 people ahead of me in line when I arrived) and they do have signs saying they're understaffed, so to be patient with those who decided to show up. Please be kind... My order was exactly as ordered, I just think I had different expectations. I was hoping for more egg and meat than that. It tasted good though! I would probably order double egg if you come here. The coffee was pretty weak/watered down. I didn't try their espresso, just their drip coffee in the self-serve carafes. I got the Irish blend and I feel like it actually would've been really good if it wasn't so watered down. Overall, I think their food seems pretty good and I'm sure a lunch or dinner portion would be more filling. I wouldn't really come here for breakfast or coffee again. I used to live around the area, returned for a visit after being gone for 9yrs. Grand Central Bagel was STILL just as amazing as I remembered. Hit up there for breakfast the first morning I was there and got the same thing I would always. Was just as amazing as I remembered! I also introduced my GF to it for e first time. I only miss working in Lancaster because I could stop at Grand Central on my way into work and get a taylor ham, egg and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel and a good coffee on my way into the office. This is the BEST place in the whole Lancaster/York/Harrisburg triangle for authentic, New York style bagels. HANDS DOWN. For this reason, they are ALWAYS busy. However, the staff here is amazing and efficient. I have never found them to be less than pleasant. You will place your order at the counter and wait for your name to be called. They are efficient and the food is worth the slight wait. I used to prefer to call ahead and have my order waiting for me. It looks like there is now a way to order via an app. Now I kinda want to take a drive to Lancaster and pick up some bagels for the rest of the week. yum. read more

My chicken salad wrap was okay - a little too dry for my taste. What I really had a problem with was the side that they gave me. I had a choice between coleslaw, macaroni salad, apple sauce and chips. I chose applesauce and the container was legit a 2 TBSP container. Looks easy enough and I will try that next time. There's a takeout shelf just inside the "exit" door. Staff is efficient, not rude as others have noted, just busy moving patrons along. They offer suggestions and answer any questions you may have. Brewed ice tea is fresh and delicious. Pickles are fresh and garlicky.
