I went to Grand on Sunday with some family friends. It's a very clean comfortable atmosphere. The staff was very quick efficient and extremely friendly.. we had wine and started off with chicken tenders the best I've had in a long time .. Then for dinner we had the meatball parmigiana grinder and on a hard roll absolutely delicious , also had a salad and escarole and bean soup . Ordered a slice to go . Thursday evening we decided to Geand Apizza. I grew up eating Grand Apizza on Grand Ave. I was hoping it would bring back childhood memories. It was quiet inside, but staff was friendly. They have foxon park soda and cherry!! Very good! We ordered 2 smalls, a mashed potato and a mozzarella with have pepperoni. They looked pretty good. Unfortunately, I needed to add salt to the mashed potato pizza. I tried parmasean but it was still bland, despite the bacon. The mozzarella was OK but very greasy. Both pizzas were very oily. We ate most of it, as they weren't awful. But we didn't take left overs home. We were disappointed being so close to New Haven and much better pizza shops. read more

My daughter moved in across the street from the restaurant. We ordered 4 cheese pizza's the night she moved in to feed us, and the moving crew. The pizza's were ready quickly. Upon pick up the staff was so friendly! This used to be a favorite for our family for pizza and Italian food. It has changed hands multiple times over the years leaving us not knowing what kind of food we would get. So we decided to give it a try again. This is a second try in a few months. This time we focused on Italian favorites. My wife loves their sauce, and she's kind-of an "expert" since her mom is from Naples, Italy. But I must confess these dishes were swimming in sauce. It was way over powering. It's hard to mess up baked ziti. But I must confess I was underwhelmed with this. Ziti was soft and it missed the top toasted layer that Baked ziti should have had. Nice little spot, cozy inside and wide variety of food on the menu. The pizza is really good, but it can get expensive the more items you wanna put on it! The soup was fine, wasn't anything special...but the garlic breed with mozzarella was great! And the sauce dip was also great! Something I really liked too is you can order your own liter of soda and just get glasses and share it. Big fan of places that carry foxen park soft drinks too. I had placed an order here for New Years Eve using Slice. When I had first arrived to the restaurant, they were quick to tell me they were closed. I had told them I placed an order online about a few hours ago. I was told that they had my order, but didn't make it due to Slice having errors all day. So I ended up leaving empty handed. I thought that was highly unprofessional of them, and I then I was told that I had to call Slice to get my money back. My first experience with this place was excellent. Something about the plain cheese pizza (probably the type of cheese they used) was fantastic. I fell in love immediately and literally went back for more two days after. However, the second time was a bit different. Something about the pizza tasted a little "off". Instead of the gorgeous, fresh taste of thick and gooey cheese, it tasted a bit bland, tasteless, and even boring. Somehow the second taste test made the restaurant a little like a chain, mediocre brand. It could've been the ingredients that day, who knows. The restaurant parking is pretty spacious, it's in a shared lot with a couple of other places in the little plaza. The inside was pretty clean for the most part. The staff seemed too busy to actually interact with but checking out with them was pleasant enough. My method for local pizza has been in use for quite a while. I call from my car when I am ten minutes away(yeah I actually use google maps for this). I order the same thing almost every time, a small cheese and a small cheese with pepperoni. I arrived at Grand and I paid. Five minutes later they handed me my two pizzas. I go to the back of my suv and open the door. I open the boxes and I take pictures. These pizzas looked as good as they tasted. Against my better judgement I picked up a slice full well knowing the burning that was soon to occur. It didn't matter it was worth it. The pizza was almost NY slice thin, but the crust had that NY slice flavor. My recommendation would be to sit in the dining room and wait for the pie to be served at the table. My takeout style is not for everyone but it sets a benchmark for me. I'm glad I found this pizza spot in my travels. I having coming to Grand Pizza, since I moved to wallingford over 20 years ago. Have gone, even through owner changes. The food is always exceptional. Tonight was my first BAD experience. I order three pizzas, one was a pizza with garlic as a topping, got plan mozzarella pie. One was a pizza with onion, and garlic,,, and I got half garlic, half onion. We placed a large order and none of it was great. I had the fettuccini Alfredo and it was a bit bland, but not bad. Pepperoni bread didn't have much pepperoni in It and just mozzarella for cheese without the Parmesan cheese mixed in it was bland. The reason for the one star is my husband became VIOLENTLY sick (no exaggeration he had to miss a day of work and couldn't stomach more than toast for two days after) in the middle of the night after eating the lobster ravioli. My husband and I stopped into this great little restaurant for some pizza on our way back home to Maine. We have heard from some locals that the food here was delicious and of great quality - that was most definitely true! We were seated right away. I hate leaving a poor review and hardly ever do, but our experience last night at Grand Apizza North was extremely disappointing. The wait staff was non-attentive, to the point where this could have been a self-service establishment. As for the food, the meatball grinders were dry and bland, there was hardly any sauce or cheese. We sent our Chicken parm grinder back because the chicken was burnt, there was a good amount of sauce and cheese, but I'm assuming that was to cover the burnt chicken. I will say the Pizza was good. Grand has been around for years, and I was so exited to see them re-open a while back and rekindle my love for huge pizzas, calzones and amazing calamari. Although we do not live in town anymore, I still stop in for the occasional MASSIVE CALZONES!!! I literally will drive all the way here for a MASSIVE CALZONE! I wish I took a picture of it. Not only is it MASSIVE, it was delicious. The calamari is not too salty, and it was just crispy enough. Staff at the window are helpful and polite. I have not eaten in before, I can only comment on carry out! BUT- they have great pizza as well. The inside would be a perfect spot for a kids birthday party or similar get together. What a nice surprise! Was in the area and craving pizza... happened into this place. Walking in, it looks like your average pizza place. The service was great. The garlic bread with cheese was absolutely delicious and the lasagne pizza, which was the special of the day was fantastic, complete with ricotta cheese and tasty meatballs. This place was continually recommended to us so we finally decided to make the short drive and grab dinner. We arrived on a busy Friday night and the seating and service was in a little bit of disarray, but after a little bit of time (and a comped beer from an incredibly friendly host) we ordered our dinners and dug into some of the best Italian food in the area. The sauces and ingredients were so flavorful and fresh, and the service was excellent - we had a great conversation with our waiter about the business, his previous work as a teacher, and his outlook on living in CT and simply enjoyed ourselves. I had ordered from Uber Eats and when my order was delivered there was a piece of my order missing - I called the Grand Apizza in regards to the missing items and spoke to employee Vinny who spoke to whoever was in charge on February 19th . Vinny assured me that next time due to the mistake that he will leave a note so that I can get my same order comped . I called today and started to place the order and spoke to Owner - for claimed - James C. ( If they even were telling the truth ) . He said mam Im not comping you and I explained what happened and he said you should've called Uber eats , not his problem . So I told him he should train his employees more because you guys lied to me then . If the employee didn't say they wouldn't have comped me - I would've called Uber Eats to begin with - Thank fully Uber Eats refunded me the full amount . The night started out nicely. We were a party of 10 people. The waitress first got our drink order but took about 15 minutes to get all the drinks out. She then proceeded to take our food order about 10 minutes after that. You would think that 4 pizzas and 3 salads would be "relatively" quick to make. We came in by 5, and we only got about 3/5 of our food by 6:15. Around 6:30 was when the rest of the table got the food. Now by this point, we hadn't seen the waitress between the time that she took our food order to when she brought out the food. We sat for an hour without refills or any of the appetizers. The redeeming factor was that the food was decent, but not decent enough to be worth the wait. If you come in early evening with family, make sure you have no night plans. Just finished dinner there with wife and everything was Great. We had escarole and beans soup, a large family house salad and ordered a medium pizza with sausage and mushrooms.
