There's the…read moreregular appointments, all the appliances, your child not doing what they're supposed to, and of course all the costs associated with braces, etc. I have to say from day one, Dr. DeMaio and his staff went above and beyond in making sure my children's treatment went as smoothly as possible. My first experience with the office was roughly eight years ago. My son had an unusual situation that went beyond straight teeth and required procedures that I wasn't familiar with at all. When I had braces some 40 years ago, they just slapped them on, cranked them up and said see you next month. When I got them off, they said "bye" and gave me a retainer that I promptly lost. Well, Dr. DeMaio explained what was happening with my son and what he needed. He answered all our questions and made sure we understood everything. Now, my son was not the most responsible patient, but Dr. DeMaio was patient and firm with him, explaining that the sooner got on the program, the easier it was going to be. My wife and were very satisfied with the attention my son received, so much so that when my daughter got to the age when she needed braces, we brought her to Dr. D. (if you look at my user pic, that's her in her braces.) We're just about done with her stint. If my youngest daughter needs braces, we're going to Dr. DeMaio. A few words about the staff. They are professional, friendly, attentive and good-humored. They're always smiling. They got to know me, and my absent-mindedness. When I forgot one of my daughter's appointments, they started sending me text messages as an extra reminder, which was helpful. Now, the bill... we didn't have insurance, but Dr. DeMaio painlessly arranged things, we stuck to the program and it was never a problem. It made things very easy. We have never had a bad experience there and would refer my best friends' kids to them, and they live about an hour away.

But I like to start off by asking, do you remember the times when you or your child went off to college, only to find that either you or your child returned back to your or your parent's house to live there for a few years or more? Yeah, I call that the boomerang effect, or what society would call it more broadly, The Boomerang Generation. I apply this notion to Doctors Neureither and Randall. I've been to 3 different dentists outside of this place. I tried giving dentists a chance. Either they were too expensive, or they just didn't care about the health and welfare of their clients. One dentist, when I lived around Blue Back Square (West Hartford) was an actual a-hole. No social skills, looked at me in disgust, and just made the experience very painful on my mouth. There was even one time when he was playing around my teeth and he said "UH.......OHHHHHH!" with a shocked look on his face. I guess he was picking at my teeth so hard with his metal instrument that he cut through my gum. This dentist was probably in his late 70s. A professional, who I could assume has probably done dentistry for over two decades....or three.......said the most unprofessional, and the most inappropriate thing to say out of the medical dictionary. Uh Oh!? Fortunately, he didn't do anything too severe where it could have been a malpractice suit, but nevertheless, I was uncomfortable throughout the entire appointment. Then there are Doctors Randall and Neureither. Today's appointment was a prime example of how any owner should run their business. A business should always put the client first - treating them with care, respect and professionalism. These docs work fast and efficiently. I think what put the cherry on top was my experience today. Including past appointments, they've always made me feel very comfortable and appreciated as a client there. I think it comes down to HOW they talked to me as a client. They never talk to a client like they were above them, and they don't act uptight. These people will engage in conversation about almost anything the client is willing to talk about. And that's what I respect, the rapport they have with their clients. Today was the best because there was nothing but laughs. This was my first time I could say that I had FUN at the dentist. Yes, FUN! The staff made me laugh, I made the staff laugh. The receptionists even came in at one point to say "okay, okay, calm down, you all are having too much fun here today!" And at the end of all the laughter and good times, my session was done! "That's all? That quick? It's over!?" Yeah I had a lot of fun here that day, and I could say it was at the dentist! *catches the boomerang*

The location is convenient, as it is in the same building as my optometrist. Parking is plentiful and off street, too. When you walk in, you will notice it is bright, spacious, modern, and devoid of the traditional smell of musty attic and latex that usually emanate the air of a dental office. The first thing you will notice is the friendly front desk staff. They are extremely friendly and helpful, and even though I forgot my son's initial paperwork, it was no hassle at all to get the extra paperwork. In the waiting room, there is plenty of room to get comfortable- there are lots of chairs, phone charging station complete with every charger imaginable, a TV, a coffee bar, magazines, and even a Team Demas monthly newsletter. The wait was a little lengthy, and there were quite a few patients in there, so I'm glad the waiting area makes the wait not so terrible. The consultation area was also very nice, we were taken back to a private office with a dentist chair and state of the art tools and software that were able to scan a 3d model of my child's mouth within a minute. It was crazy fast! The one thing that gave me issue is that after the consultation, I received a mixed message. I was informed my child would experience facial deformities and serious oral issues if not treated, yet his exam determined he would only qualify for our private, paid insurance, and that our public insurance determined there was no major need. I feel this was done in effort to get me to pay more out of pocket, as the private reimbursement rate is more than Medicaid's. They made the process seem so medically necessary, so it really boggles me that they would then turn around and say it isn't necessary enough, but still so necessary you must fork over $4,444.00. Overall, the office is nice and modern, and it does seem like a lovely place to get work done. All I have to say is beware if you have private plus public insurance, because it seems like they'd do anything to ensure you pay the most out of pocket.

We had no issues with x-rays or fittings/adjustments. The support staff was always very nice and kept us informed about my daughter's progress. Since braces were removed (and retainer has been put out of service), we are still on CT Valley follow-up schedule for possible future braces (round 2) once all adult teeth have come in.
