My mother, who suffers from dementia was living at Granada Care home for a very short time. When we interviewed with the owner he showed us pictures of piano playing, promised backyard barbeques, said he did exercise with the elderly, etc. etc. etc. All lies. The piano was never touched once while my mother was there. She was never taken outside to enjoy the backyard even once! No exercise at all except what we provided and She was left either in bed or in front of the T.V.! In fact my mother lost thirty pounds in six months! She fell on three occasions with the last fall breaking her femur bone. Her complete set of bottom dentures were missing! When I told the owner he said his workers were responsible and would have to pay for them. When I told him he was responsible for his workers he then later refuted that response by saying my mother must have lost them. At the time she was completely wheelchair bound from her fall so I'm still not sure how he thinks she managed that. After making surprise visits and phone calls in the evening and early mornings I found that the owner had hired non-English speaking workers who's many duties also included administering prescription medication that they were incapable of reading . My Mom's sleep narcotics went missing twice as did her medical records! After many phone calls to the owner and hearing all to many excuses I finally decided to meet with his daytime workers who told me their hours and duties had been cut drastically in order for him to hire this cheaper labor. When I asked what they were being fed they informed me they had begged the owner on many occasions to please give the patients meat or at least one piece of chicken every once in a while. The workers said they were fed mostly frozen fish sticks, oatmeal, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and fruit cocktail in small amounts. They informed me when the owner knew a family member or Licensing was coming he would "stage" meals to impress. He even set up exercise classes for a while because he knew licensing was coming to inspect his facilities because he wants to increase to 8 patients! I moved my mother out immediately and my aunt who was living there was also removed for lack of care and neglect. I called the State Board of Licensing who later informed me they had made a surprise visit and sited him for six of the eight offences to which I had informed them of. I have since been told by a neighbor of Granada Care Home that my mother had wandered to her home at 11:00 pm, very confused and unsure of where she was or who she was. Figuring she came from the care home, they took her back to Granada Home and after ringing the bell for ten minutes, was finally greeted by a gentleman that took my mom inside but who could not speak a word of English to her. I was never informed of this incident by the facility. While visiting my mother there I have personally witnessed food so undercooked I wasn't sure what it was. I also witnessed a non-English speaking worker put a completely wheelchair bound patient on her feet, then left her in the hall holding onto a grab bar to walk on her own to the bathroom. Because of lack of communication he couldn't understand that she was unable to walk! I had to run next door to get help from the other care home which left those patients completely alone! I called and reported this incident to that patients daughter who shared many complaints of her own and has since removed her mother as well. On two separate occasions I was let in the front door by a patient who also suffers from dementia only to find that the workers were at the Granada care home next door leaving these patients entirely alone! Folks, PLEASE be very, very wary of this facility. read more
