This review is for vegan and vegetarian people. Very cheap prices and great service. Unfortunately not many options for vegetarians or especially vegans. I got the jalepeno, bean, and cheese papusas and sweet fried plantains. These tasted good if you are in the mood for some comfort food. However they are also oily/greasy if that matters. Finding salvadorean food is really hard in Brooklyn so I came to this spot and ordered Tamales de Pollo and takeout of Rice, frijoles liquado, and meat. First of all the tamales were horrible. They tasted like they were days old and didn't have a good taste. The frijoles didn't have any flavor either, like they needed to add more salt to it or something and ultimately it was expensive. Last weekend my girlfriend and I went to the monthly open house at Koch Comics Warehouse in Sunset Park. If you're into comics, fantasy, sci-fi, or anything kool from the 80s or earlier, you should definitely check these guys out (www.kochcomics.com). But, before our adventure, we needed to feed ourselves, which we ended up doing Salvadorian style at Gran Villa. I've never been to El Salvador, but if the food there is anything like what I ate at this place a trip is Definitely in order! Gran Villa is a cute family run and owned spot that was bustling with life when we walked in. Seems like it's a big local hangout. I ordered their Eggs Ranchero with beans and sour cream with a side order of fried sweet plantains. The beans were FANtastic and the plantains some of the best I've ever had, and I've had a lot. My girlfriend ordered some Pupusas, a traditional Salvadorian dish made of thick handmade corn tortillas that you fill with your choice of shrimp, pork, beans, cheese or anything else you want. I'd never tried one before (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pupusa). Take it from me, you haven't been living till you've had a pupusa from Gran Villa. OMFG, the pork, cheese, and bean combination was beyond words. We also ordered their homemade guacamole, which was absolutely delicious. Their coffee was darn good too. The staff at the place is really friendly and you truly feel like you're at a friends house for your meal and not a restaurant. This is the best Salvadoran food in Brooklyn! You can't get any better. Their food is very authentic and always delicious and fresh. Oh! and their pupusas are always TO DIE FOR. Honestly, every time I come here I am never disappointed. I've tried everything from the pupusas, to their breakfast omelettes, to their coffees, to their ethnic drink called "horchata", and everything always exceeds my expectations. I always leave with a happy stomach and an even happier heart when I come here. What makes this place even better, is the staff. They are truly amazing, happy people. I popped into Gran Villa, a small family owned and run restaurant, after spending the day drinking at Brooklyn Kura and Five Borough Brewing. I had worked up an appetite and thought pupusas might hit the spot. I ordered two: one chicken and cheese and one pork and cheese. They were so good I had to order a third, bean and cheese. They give you a bowl of vinegar based cole slaw and some mild salsa that you spoon on top. I added an horchata, a creamy rice milk drink, and was one happy camper. Service was friendly, and I ordered three pupusas to take home. All of this including tip was less than $20. That's a steal in my book. read more

I was looking for somewhere to grab a quick meal from and stumbled upon this place on yelp. I had been craving pupusas after failing to make them at home myself. This place did not disappoint. They had the cheesiest pupusas ever! I ordered 10 bean and cheese pupusas for my family. The masa was on point. They gave me a huge container of delicious curtido, a pickled slaw that brings freshness to the pupusas. I topped mine off with plenty of salsa and curtido. The salsa was not super spicy, to my liking, and very flavorful. I highly recommend this place. Pickup was fast and easy. I ordered right here from Yelp and my order was ready on time. The staff was very friendly and even gave me a sample of some of their meat, which had lots of flavor and the sauce was so good. They are so amazing, super friendly and warm service, once you go, you will be hooked. Luis is a great cook and great host. We ordered a bunch of different foods and they were all good. The pupusas are perfect, great salsa and cole slaw come with them. Stewed chicken was fantastic, with perfectly cooked white rice and great refried beans. The tamales and maduros are incredible, I wish I lived closer so I could pick some up in the morning... for breakfast and lunch! He let us try each of the homemade drinks, really stand-up guy. Coming to this place is like stepping into a family member's kitchen. The owner is incredibly sweet and remembers you when you pop in for lunch.
