Gramps is a viable alternative to all that sucks in Miami. The played-out pretension of SoBe, the generic eurotrash suckiness of Brickell...it's awesome. Low-key but subtly upscale with a beautiful interior and massive outdoor drinking space (and Bocce ball!) They mix the best old fashioned in the city and have a pretty amazing bourbon selection. Great music. Added bonus: there are usually nice men around in the neighborhood who will watch yo car for a dolla. read more

It's like someone opened their garage doors and decided to build a bar in it for themselves and their friends. A very unpretentious kip of a place which seems to be evolving as it goes along. Yes the cocktails are good, but alas, a friend was left "settling" for something when THREE of her first options were not available (I believe it was gin....she ended up with not her regular brand and Orange Juice...we giggled...twas like something you would fix from the liquor cabinet as a teen so that it wouldn't be noticed missing). Fine place to go to if you like to watch people trying too hard to be the cool kids but bring bug spray if you plan to sit outdoors - my ankles are looking like I am an extra from The Walking Dead. Every time I come to Wynwood, one of my go to spots is definitely Gramps. I love the music they play here, anything from old-school rap to indie, to tech-house. It's one of the few bars in Wynwood that is spacious, and you can actually dance without getting super sweaty and uncomfortable. Never any long lines at the restrooms, and you can always order your drinks with ease. I love coming to this bar mainly because of their craft cocktails. They change their menu every few weeks or so, but everything I ever ordered has always been great. ALSO, Ms. Cheezious food truck is always parked in the front. Perfect if you had one too many drinks and want a delicious, warm, cheesy sandwich to go on the way to your next gallery or drinking excursion. read more

Cool place, nice ambiance - we grabbed a few beers and hung out here during Art Basel. There are booths set up inside, but there's also a big outside area where you can just stand around and mingle. The bathrooms rocked - I think I was just super excited because they were so clean and brand new. Coupled with no lines to wait in, this place automatically shot up in the ratings for me! Modelo in a can $5, while my friend ended up paying somewhere along the lines of $10 for some draft craft beer. Be careful what you order (bartenders weren't too helpful and certainly don't care if you get ripped off), but other than that, definitely a chill spot! read more

As a long-time Yelp reader, I felt obliged to make my first review count. Gramps is my favorite. Not just in Wynwood, but all South Florida. Here's why: - Drinks. Great selection on the high and low ends, beer, liquor, and cocktails. The bartenders know what they're doing (doesn't hurt they're also cute!). The cocktail menu is small but GREAT, all made with fresh ingredients and all at a (reasonable) $11, $9 during happy hours. My favorite is the Penicillin (scotch, lemon, ginger, honey. Strong!). A healthy selection of craft beers, plus cheap favorites like Tecate & Modelo, all priced on par with local competitors. - Happy hour(s). Daily 6-9, $2 off everything. Plusss a second happy hour on Tues, Weds, and Sun from 12-3 am. Wooooop! - Ambiance. As stated in other reviews, casual and "hip" without trying too hard. Perfectly sized, with two indoor rooms and a huge outdoor patio with plenty of tables and seating that gets packed during art walks. Good for just hangin' out after work (happy hour + free wi-fi = productive!) or going crazy late into the night. The gravel isn't great for your nicer shoes, but word is that it'll be changing soon.. Decor is simple and charming and stays true to grassroots Miami. No smoking inside is a nice change of pace. It just feels like home. - Music. Favorite local DJs spinning (with actual records most of the time) chill, danceable stuff on any given night of the week, plus live bands on most weekends, with no cover. Higher profile acts on occasion, esp. during special times of year like Basel & WMC. It's not unusual for dance parties to break out (shoutout to GOG!) whenever the vibe is right. - Bathrooms! As a gal, crucial. They are huge and clean, and almost never a line. Overall, Gramps is unpretentious and welcoming, with great nightly programming, a professional staff, and a dedicated owner who's literally realizing his dreams making this place happen, which makes it feel even more special. As the new guy in town, it's still a work in progress, but definitely destined for continued success! As for those drawing comparisons to Wood, in my mind they don't compare. Sucks to say but we where in the out side patio and no one came to ask us if we wanted another drink, they loss so much revenue by not having a waiter/ waitress in the out side patio servicing the tables, so I go to the main and ask for some drinks and I ask the Bartender (blond) Liz and she looked at me like I came from planet Mars, with the worst attitude, served me, dint ask me if i want anything, it was like if she was bother by serving me. Great venue in Wynwood. I was here last week to see one of my fave bands Ketchy Shuby and had a awesome time. The outside patio is great, they show movies on certain nights, this particulat time they were playing the pink panther and they even sell popcorn too! I'm so glad that there's finally a decent, laid back alternative to Wood Tavern (not that there aren't a few bars in the area, but all of them have a completely different vibe). I really like everything about this place. The decor is fun, the setup gives you a lot of options (indoor/outdoor, seating/bar/standing), it doesn't seem to get TOO crowded - and then there are a few added bonuses - they have really good, really strong signature cocktails, they've got a photo booth, and the ms cheezious truck was outside on the friday night we checked it out (and if i'm not mistaken, most friday nights). They also have a pretty good happy hour. I believe it's $2 off everything (which is already pretty fairly priced for Miami) until 9pm. I can't explain how important it is that happy hour goes until 9. I don't understand happy hours that end at 7pm. Does everyone work in Brickell and get out at 5? I feel like I hardly ever get to indulge in happy hour simply because by the time I get home from where I work in Broward and walk my dog it's almost over. I have a lot of love for any happy hour that goes past 7. I wasn't so crazy about the live music when we went. It got a little too loud and wasn't great, although it is pretty cool that they're showcasing local bands. Ummm Gramps is my favorite bar in Wynwood, by far. I have always had unique and fun experiences at Gramps. This is not your traditional dive-bar. They actually make great cocktails. They have mixologists so they can make you pretty much anything you want. So everyone knows that I drink vodka gimlet's up. It's pretty much the only thing I drink. Where did I discover this scrumptious drink you ask? Gramps! I told the bartender "make me something tart with vodka, not fruity" and he served me the best drink I've ever had (clearly). They have indoors & outdoors...as well as another room that's open from time to time and has live bands. They have food trucks outside sometimes and the dj spins vinyl. What? Vinyl. Yes. Gramps is a come as you are type of place. The crowd was not as many hipsters as I thought, but an this is a BIG but it was Art Walk. The crowd was mixed an the place has a nice outdoor area, that kind of makes you feel as if you are at someone's backyard party. The main room inside was a little divey and the room in the back a little strange. The quirks of this place are not a downside, more than anything they make this place what it is. The big issue I had with this place is the music was kind of random and didn't always flow well. As for the beer selection and service it was non existent. They had a display of beers, none of which did they have and the different bartenders kept pawning us off to other bars inside to get a beer. Finally we found the bar in the back had delerium do all was well. Maybe art walk overwhelmed them, I'm not sure, but I would be willing to try this spot out again. read more

Wynwood is my new favorite place in south Florida. Cliche, I know. Blame it on being a pisces but I love a mix of artistic intellectuals with intoxicants. The first time I visited Gramps was during Art Basel for a Spin Magazine party. I unknowingly returned to discover this "cool new bar in Wynwood" (phrase spoken by a good friend) was the same place. The indoor portion has two rooms: one with a full bar and too many people and the other with a DJ and a smaller bar. The DJ room was surprisingly tame yet fun. The outdoor portion is massive and heavenly. I love me some outdoor drinking and socializing. I will definitely return to Gramps: fun people, decent drinks, good music, awesome time. read more

This is one of the few bars in the whole Miami area where I don't really mind going to. I never know what to expect when I visit. One day they have country 50s music and on another they might have this dark synth vibe. At first they'd hook you up with drinks (put a good amount of liquor in it), but now they REALLY skimp you out. I guess they realize that Gramps is getting pretty popular, thus bringing a lot of people. SO why not hold the liquor and switch the cups to smaller sizes for the same price? Huh. read more

Gramps is what happens when you take RSMAS's Wet Lab and transplant it in Wynwood with a mixologist at the helm. I liked Gramps because when I walked in sans makeup and in beat-up Sperry's I got shamelessly checked out by 4 different guys and managed to get my hands on a well-crafted gin cocktail (replete with flambeed rosemary) late on a Saturday night without having to claw my way to the bar or busting out the extra pleading puppy-dog eyes. I don't know what existed in this space before Gramps, but the space screams high school cafeteria that's been retrofitted with a well-stocked bar (read: multiple kinds of mescal) and a handful of booths for sitting. The outside patio is all gravel and not stiletto-friendly, which is fine, because the laid-back atmosphere doesn't require them either. I've heard some die-hard Gramps fans talk about how it's sold out, and gotten too popular recently, so maybe it's jumping the shark soon - so get to it while it's still fresh Drinks were good, I tried two off the cocktail menu; Rosemary's baby and the scotch cocktail who's name I forget. So, on a Friday stroll with no objective in mind ended up in the place. Mainly because we can hear music in the back and it so happened to be 80's which I do like. Once at the entrance, we we hit with a cover.. yes a cover for a bar but ok it was only $5 so I paid it. Once inside, we were given a free tequila shot which tasted more like draino... of which, went back in the cup and found our way over to the not so packed inside bar and ordered a drink. The bartender was really sweet with her straight cut bangs like a 40's pinup girl. Talked with her for a sec and ended up in the back outdoor area which was blasting Billy idol or something and a room full of swag kids who looked like extras to the "breakfast club" from the 80's. Pretty funny. There was a small stage I believe, the only area with mediocre lighting. I am not sure I wld go back.. This is my favorite bar in Wynwood, mostly because of the ambience--but even MORE because there's usually a grilled cheese truck parked out front. Cocktails + grilled cheese is like paradise. The outdoor seating area, with its post-industrial vibe, is awesome. (More tables and chairs would be good, though. Gramps, take note.) Because the place is new, they're still working out some kinks. For example, one of the bartenders told me they didn't have a cocktail list, when, in fact, they do. (He found it with some help from a coworker.) I recommend the Jewban Princess if you're in a fruity mood, or their specialty old fashioned if you're in a grittier one. Check it out. A Hipster Cheers! Gramps, where have you been all of my life? I simply adore you. From my favorite, the black & white pic of the legend himself, Gramps, to the delicious eye candy behind the bar making tasty original craft cocktails, to an old Hitchcock film playing in the background, to a pic of Steve Martin in "The Jerk", to the old school arcade games. It's Old Florida meets the 80's meets Wynwood. It's a great space inside and out! The beer garden area is cute as well. I especially loved the R&B playing from the early 80's. Went to Gramps on Wednesday and experienced Flamingo Bingo. It happened to also be a night sponsored by Altos Tequila, which was nice because we got some free tacos, guacamole, and well....tequila! The drinks are really good here, and quirky with their names (a bit Big Lebowski themed too). I'm not personally a whisky drinker, but people who are highly recommend the "Penicillin". I've had their Moscow mule, which is served as it should be in a copper cup, and it's great too. The inside is dark but comfortable, and the outside is spacious and kind of feels like you're in a backyard (kinda similar to Wood, but not as far as Lagniappe). Warning - it's Wynwood. If you don't like Hipsters, it's probably not the right place for you to be in. Try the Nazca Lines- strong on the ginger & delicious. Rosemary's Baby is a favorite. If you like sweet drinks with a little twist, this one is for you. Their cocktails are probably the best in all wynwood, and give some of those more upscale midtown bars a run for their money! They also have a pretty good selection of craft beers! Stopped by on a Saturday night while walking through Wynwood. Loved the vibe in this place. There were three areas so you can pick what you like best. The outdoor area with the orange shaped bar was cool, nice seating and a good dj, the area inside was more low key, the second outdoor area had a great dj and a cool bar vibe. There is a pizza place in the bar which I think is just brilliant. The people were pretty laid back and it was a nice environment for a bar (which is getting harder and harder for me to find). read more

Stop #4 and last stop on the Wynwood bar-hopping adventure. Fortunately, this place had a nice laid back vibe to it, almost like someone's house that got turned into a bar. There were a few seats inside at the bar and tables but we went outside to enjoy the appealing sounds of the DJ playing and mixing 80's and 90's mixes along with a bunch of newer recent hits. Rick Astley was playing that night...first time ever that I heard that song in public. Also cool was that the DJ had a projector that showed videos of the songs that he was playing. Aside from the fact that a) the hipsters have DEFINITELY moved in on this place--and prices have exploded subsequently and b) the bar is approximately one square foot (we've waited an hour for a refill at peak times) I have zero complaints about Grampy-Gramps, which currently sits at the top of my "Best Cocktails in Miami" list. (Hmm, I should make that a Yelp listing..) Try Rosemary's Baby if you're into Gin (there will be a kitchen torch involved). More on the Dark Side? Try their riff on the Old Fashioned. But really--you can't go wrong with anything that's poured from a shaker. The fellow and I had a fun-filled time at Gramps sipping on surprisingly tasty drinks, listening to loud music, and people watching. The crowd was a delightful mix on a Saturday evening, ranging from your 20-something hipster sex kittens to a middle-aged man's birthday party. Girls and wacky 50-year olds danced hand in hand to Hall & Oates. There's ample seating for folks like us who prefer spectating over wiggling or are too sober to do the latter. The decor is especially charming and reminded me of all of the old-school Miami paraphernalia my 'Cane-loving uncle had in his house before he got a girlfriend. The bachelor-pad-ness force is strong with this one and I suppose it makes sense with the name and all. But seriously, let's talk about those drinks. The cocktails aren't served in fancy glasses or blasted with liquid nitrogen- that stuff don't mean a thing. They focus on flavors and simply elegant ingredients like a burnt rosemary garnish to step their game up. Don't let the dive-y look fool you- they're hiding some talent back there. My only hangup was the INSANELY loud (and kinda crummy) music outside. We did a quick step-out and scurried right back in, warded off by the brain-thumping but rhythmless bass. It's all good, though, because we had a ball indoors and stayed closer to the bar! My advice? Go, go, go, obviously, but bring a pal who will let you taste their drinks. Order different stuff. This is my favorite place in Wynwood. My compadres and I were down south for III Points and came to Gramps for the Juan Macleen Activation Bar B Que. The Meat was late!! We didn't get to order any food but we did get delicious frozen drinks. Combination pina colada strawberry Daiquiris aka MIAMI VICES. Not too sweet and great to cool off with. My change for two drinks that I used a $20 for was $6 and the bartender have me a $5 and a $1 which was his way of telling me "give me $5" but I felt contrary about being told what to do so I fished in my wallet to give him three singles. Was that wrong? I might have given him $4 if he gave me singles but I also might not have since they have frozen drinks in a ready to serve slushie machine. It's not like I made anyone bust out a blender..... In the past I have been stoked to be here and see my fave local musicians also bellied up to the bar. Bonus they have clean bathrooms with tons of stalls. Sad new development is the pay to park street signs. read more

This place had a very nice and interesting vibe. The place itself was very cool and has great potential but the music was just terrible. We had originally gone to see a theatre show , which they had going on in the back but we got there a little late so we missed the show. We decided to stay however and just hang around and have a drink , we sat outside which was very nicely set up and they have a pizza place you can get food from which I thought was very neat too considering it's the only pizza place in wynwood they told us. If you're looking for just a casual place to hang out with some friends it's not bad but if you're looking for a place to dance and that has good music , I suggest the wood tavern which is a couple blocks down from Gramps read more

First Thoughts: Awesome. Now I can be in any Wes Anderson film! I absolutely hate to love- love to hate this kind of ambiance, it frees my soul. Their drinks are affordable and I love the "Rosemary's Baby" cocktail - smells like burning Christmas trees and makes me feel generously twisted with every sip! : ) What's wonderful about this place is how easily it welcomes you as a local. When I say "local", I don't mean the way that "tourists" think. What I mean is, sure you have your share of "Hipsters" but all in all, there's a good mix of real Miami natives on a regular night far from "Art Walk." Primarily there are three areas; there's a bar near the bathroom, on cool Miami nights, the delectable backyard area is pleasing as well, and then there's the back room that's open occasionally. All three provide different experiences depending on what your vibe level is. A big plus to this secret local diamond is that one of the most popularly delicious food trucks reside outside- if not permanently, at least everytime I have gone.
