This is the first time I had an original ring designed, though. I worked with Marino Costello on the design process. As an anniversary gift, my husband wanted to buy me a ring, but I decided that I couldn't give up my original engagement ring and wedding band so I had a new ring designed utilizing the diamonds. The process was interesting. I looked at rings in the jewelry store to get an idea of what I wanted and then we proceeded to the design process, Marino sending me CAD drawings and then a wax ring was made where I tried it on to get an idea of the design and dimensions. My new ring is gorgeous! Marino is a fabulous designer and so easy to work with. I appreciated his attention to detail and his quick responses to my emails. The design process was fun. I love that Marino designed such a special ring where I still have the original diamonds that my husband gave me 20 years ago. I highly recommend Costello Jewelry!

I would not trust your watch to get serviced properly …read more.. I did give these guys a shot last year replacing the band. While it took days if not weeks longer than expected, I had no reason to fault them specifically. This time, I needed a new battery. According to Tissot, the time difference and hand lag (pictured) is due to improper battery changing sequence and/or incorrect battery. When I called to let Castello know, and find out next steps, the manager Michelle was fairly rude and defensive instead of helpful and understanding. She said things like: "we change 20 batteries a day" "I have worked here for 30 years" "I have sold 100 of these watches" "We have sold Tissot for 40 years" and sooooo many other things like this instead of "let me find out about that" or "I will take care of that for you". She did come close with "we will send it to Tissot for you and report back with how much the repair will be" ....yikes. I said I was ok paying for anything not related to their apparent lack of experience changing batteries in a T-Touch, but there was no offer to stand behind their work, as I read the wrong battery can "fry" the watch, whatever that means. One last Michelle quote:(she does love to argue and be defensive) her: "Is the watch working" me: "yes" her:" that means the battery is good" LMAO I even did a little homework, emailed it to her, and asked if the battery brand used or sequence was followed. She thought the idea was absurd that she read that email from me, when all I wanted was to find out how or if they could help rectify the situation. I visited today to get my $25 back, and decided just to send to Tissot for repairs myself. A LOT more words from Michelle, most of which contradicting her statements form our phone call like "I said I would take care of it" "we have sold Tissot for 35 years" "I have worked here 31 years" etc. but no $25. They are out here just stealing money at this point lol. I will see what Tissot comes back with and if the battery was the cause of any damage, I will return for Costello for them to reimburse and hope they come to their senses and do the right thing. Stay tuned for my updated review!!

The deal was $99 for $225 worth of jewelry. I stopped by at the end of the month, eager to check out what they had, but I was kind of disappointed to find out that they didn't have much in my price range or really anything I liked. I knew I didn't want to spend more than my youswoop (or not much more at least)-if I'd been able to afford the next step up, I would have. I can't remember who helped me that day, but he was very nice and told me they planned to have their new store (at 28 N. Wabash) open come March, and that they'd have more in my price range by then. I walked by last week and their new store was still closed (Samir told me today that they hope to open next month). Bummer. I decided to go in today to their booth location at 7 South, because well, my youswoop was burning a hole in my pocket (as these things do). I'm glad I did. Samir was really nice and very helpful, showing me things in my price range. Unfortunately (and the reason this is not a 5 star review), they still didn't have much around $200-$250 ($25 over my youswoop, the max I would've spent) I'm fairly certain the purpose of the youswoop was to discount bigger purchase like an engagement ring, but I still would've liked them to have more options. Anyway. They have some beautiful pieces. Many things you won't find at most jewelry stores, which is pretty cool. Samir helped me select some Sapphire earrings after much deliberation on my end. I'm very happy with my purchase. You may find yourself now asking, "What, praytell, will keep you going back to Mon Ami, when you don't have much money and they don't have a lot in your price range?" The answer is simple. You see, my sapphire earrings are yellow gold. Anybody who knows me knows that I loathe yellow gold (save for literally two pieces of jewelry, one from my husband, and one that belonged to my grandmother). So when I was looking and found these earrings, of course I asked if they had any in white gold. They did not. However, Samir said that they would dip them in w.g. for me, and that I could pick them up tomorrow. What really sealed the deal for me with Mon Ami was that he told me that they normally charge $10 for dipping, but he would just take my youswoop as the entire payment (earrings were $200, tax was $19 or so), and for me to not worry about giving them the rest. I really appreciated that, even though it wasn't a huge difference in cost. That gesture will be what keeps me going back to Mon Ami-it's how you get yourself a loyal following. Thanks, Samir!

I've purchased an engagement ring, wedding band, and a Cartier watch from Merry Richards Jewelers,…read moreand I can confidently say this is a top-tier jeweler. Richard is someone I've known for decades through a close family friend, and I completely trust him. My first purchase, a platinum engagement ring, was the largest I had ever made, and he made the entire process feel calm, straightforward, and easy. I shared what I was looking for and gave him the freedom to guide the decision, and the result exceeded expectations. His son Scott is equally great, and everything they deliver comes with GIA certifications, including QR-linked documentation, which makes the experience feel transparent and professional from start to finish. Richard is personable, has a magnetic sense of humor, and isn't afraid to tell you when something isn't worth it, which is rare in this industry. If you spend any time researching high-end jewelry, you quickly realize how much of the pricing at big brands is driven by name recognition, even though grading standards are consistent across the board because of GIA grading. Richard does an excellent job helping you understand what you're actually getting and how it compares, so you can make a confident, informed decision. We also had a custom wedding band made, inspired by a design from another noteworthy jeweler in London. The final product was excellent, the craftsmanship was strong, and the pricing felt very fair compared to larger retail brands. More recently, I purchased a Cartier watch for my wife, and the experience was just as smooth. It arrived quickly, exactly as specified, and any questions I had were answered promptly. Richard and Scott are consistently responsive and stand behind their work. He has also appraised jewelry for my family members, and those experiences were equally honest and direct. The jewelry business doesn't always have the best reputation, but this is a place you can trust completely. I'll continue to go back, and I would highly recommend Merry Richards.

I went on Thursday because that is when the specialist (Collin I think was his name) was there who could evaluate the ring and offer me a price. He said hello and asked if I had an idea of what I wanted. I didn't want to give any information to him because I wanted to see what he said. The man took my ring, disappeared in the back for five minutes, came back out and said diamonds had gone down in value and he could only offer me $50, but would give me $150 for the gold rings. I said thank you and left, suspecting the ring was worth more. I then went to Marry Me Jewelers in Countryside. Gino Senior invited me to sit down, educated me on the 4 C's, involving me in the evaluation process and then offered me a very fair price (several hundreds higher!) for the diamond ring. I will never go back to Cottage Hill simply because I felt so dismissed and disrespected. I have shopped there before and loved the other employees/jewelry (including a beautiful amethyst necklace they designed for me) -but this condescending employee has changed my mind about Cottage Hill forever. I'm trying extremely hard to write an unbiased review, since my engagement ring was purchased at…read morethis fine establishment, but this place truly does deserve five stars. Of course I love my ring, but unlike many women, I wanted absolutely no part in designing or picking out what kind of ring I wanted; I didn't even necessarily insist on a diamond. I trusted my guy implicitly to select the perfect ring for me, and more importantly, I wanted to be surprised. And with the help of Charles (Charlie), he did just that. My fiancé knew from the start that he wanted a ruby as the main stone (to go with my red hair!) and there just aren't a lot of ruby engagement rings to be had. He went to Jeweler's Mall on S. Wabash Avenue (or as my mom calls it, "The Den of Forty Thieves") and asked around as to where he might be able to purchase such a ring. He was directed to Charles Horberg. As soon as he met Charles, he knew he was in the right place to make such an important purchase. Together, they chose the perfect stone and setting, which involved transferring a stone from one ring to a setting from another, until my fiancé was happy with the finished product. I couldn't have been happier with my ring, but the band was quite large and needed to be re-sized. Fortunately I work close by and was able to take it in immediately. When I walked in, I immediately loved Charlie (for some reason I naturally gravitate towards aging Jewish men who remind me of my grampa), and when Charlie told me the reason my fiancé selected a ruby (http://jewishmag.com/67mag/aishetchail/aishetchail.htm), my heart melted. When my correct size was determined, Charlie asked when I wanted my ring back. Duh, I wanted it back as soon as possible! Normally these things take some time (usually a week), but Charlie was able to turn it around in twenty-four hours. That was much appreciated. My grampa used to be a jeweler in the same building many, many years ago, and since Charlie has been in the same building for fifty years, I thought I'd ask if he knew him. Turns out my grampa's store was only one floor up. And then Charlie showed me a picture of a jeweler's banquet reception taken in 1957 to see if I could find my grampa in it. Since the picture was grainy (not to mention I couldn't really distinguish the men from one another), I couldn't find him, but I was so touched that he still had the picture. Charlie loves what he does and seems to have no plans to retire. He always sees people at their best (well, jewelry purchases tend to be reserved for happy occasions!) and enjoys making people feel good. I'm sure we'll be buying our wedding bands from Charlie and I imagine it will be another terrific experience., I can't recommend Charles Horberg Jewelers enough!
