Dani & her team of fitness trainers are absolutely AMAZING!!! I was looking for a workout space…read morethat I could feel empowered and this exceeded my expectations. The first session was simply a conversation with the trainer solely for the purposes of learning what was important to me so they could tailor not just the workouts, but also ways to help me feel inspired as a whole person. That made me feel so special. The trainers were sure to respect and be mindful of what could seemingly be small details but were important me. That for me is priceless! The physical space itself is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! It was designed with so much intentionality that it made the workout sessions even more enjoyable. The small group sessions are lovely. They aren't overstimulating and that was key for me. Every workout session left me feeling inspired, encouraged and renewed not just physically but mentally & emotionally. Lastly, Dani, the owner and founder, is an absolute PLEASURE to do business with and her passion for mind and body fitness is evident. She wants every client to get what they need to feel empowered. She makes herself accessible and easy to communicate with either by phone, email or text. As a nurse leader, I am deeply appreciative of what she has created at Very Personal Training and will continue to do support her business not only with my own personal training but also with group training events that I will host for my clinical team and friends. This place is truly one of a kind!

Two stories of equipment!…read more I've been a member for a few years, as well as a client of Evolve for some of those years. The first floor also houses Evolve Physical Therapy which has two office spaces in the facility, as well as shares the equipment and space at Harbor, meaning whether you are a member of Harbor or a client at Evolve you can use the equipment. The front desk staff is very friendly and recognize you after awhile. They even have fitness coaches you can employ (I believe the first session is comlimentary. There are television screens in front of most of the ellipticals as well treadmills; each treadmill, universal, bike and elliptical has their own screens as well although they either don't work for tv (just workout data) or I haven't figured it out yet. On the main floor also has a myriad of cardio and resistance gym equipment, different sized towels, a large spin or pilates room main floor, water fountain, alcohol wipe dispenser stations throughout, and one person restroom, and small lounge area. They also sell smoothies and protein shakes at reception. Downstairs are the punch/kick bags, free weights, and another room (yoga?), free men's and women's locker rooms (there are private ones upstairs, and a few downstairs as well), and a sauna (I don't remember if there was a shower - but there may be as I see people with towels and a hair dryer in restroom. The first floor which also serves the PT patients is ADA compliant. There is no elevator that I know of so the lower level is not. Most of the members are mindful in wiping down the equipment after they use it, for the next person to use. The building is right on the corner. Street meter parking on 5th Avenue, and free alternate side of the street parking on side streets - if you are lucky enough to find it. One block up from R train (closest station may be Prospect Avenue and 4th Avenue; whereas F and G at 9th Street and 4th Avenue). Their website has photos of the location - make sure you choose the one in South Slope on 550 5th Avenue because they have several locations in Brooklyn.

I've been training with Nate now for about a year and rating 5 starts isn't enough…read more Studio 16 is as if a luxury gym decided to open up a pop up shop. It's always clean, great sound system and top of the line equipment. While small, this intimate location works out your entire body. There's a small shop should you ever forget your supplements and a bathroom stocked with items so you don't leave stinky. Also there's a tv for bopping music videos to get you through your workout! Nate is incredibly friendly and personable. Never a moment of awkward silence. He's incredibly well versed in all areas of health. He's made my, as cliche as it sounds, "Fitness journey" exciting. Always available for any questions I have even when we're not training. Working out never feels like a chore. I always tell people Nate feels like the cool older brother I wish I had. I grew up very artsy and sports/fitness was never exciting or easy for me. He's made me look at the gym with less fear now - I feel like one of the boys. Plus...he's down to play some gay pop bops(Spice Girls, Ariana Grande, Madonna, etc....) and easy on the eyes. I highly recommend him if you're looking to start fresh this New Year or get closer to your goal.

I joined Speakeasy in early April 2022, looking for my version of the perfect strength training…read moreclass and thankfully for me, I found it! Their classes are the perfect amount of time and use various tools for moves (kettlebells, trx, clubs and bodyweight), have minimal cardio and no more than 5-6 people in group size which allows for plenty of attention/form correction if needed. Classes are challenging but NEVER feel like torture, I always enjoy them which has not always been the case in other studios' classes. They change their programming up every 4 weeks and each program targets the full body. Since starting about 2.5 years ago, in addition to getting stronger in general, I've noticed that some irritating chronic issues in my body have gone away by strength training. I haven't felt the need to go to the chiropractor in a year, my posture is better and shoulder and hip irritation are gone. Clearly these issues were being caused by muscle weakness and I just didn't know it. I wasn't expecting these issues to clear up from strength training but am so grateful that they did! In addition, Steve the owner is truly a community minded guy. He's generous and kind and has created a great place (all of the coaches are wonderful). Can say I still recommend Speakeasy 10/10 two and a half years later!

I've been going to Jennie for a few years on and off, and recently for a more pressing issue. For a…read morefew months now I've had this buzzing, warm, pins and needles sensation in my right thigh down to just above my knee. Not painful, but incredibly uncomfortable. I couldn't lie on my back, on my front, or recline in a seat without having to prop up my legs really, really high up because within seconds the buzzing would emerge. I figured pinched nerve, so I went to a neurologist who ordered MRIs, but between awaiting insurance authorization and the follow-up visit, I couldn't bare it any longer and decided to commit my tax refund to Jennie. Best decision ever. I got to Jennie's and explained what was going, what the neurologist thought, etc. She listened, then did her thing. After a brief bit of prodding and poking, she thought my issue stemmed from weak gluteus muscles. I was like, "ok, let's go with that, let's do it." Lying on her massage table was no easy feat, because she had to work my body with me lying on my left side only with cushions between my legs. She had no issues with that at all, of course. Fast-forward to my 4th session, when we decided to test whether I could now lie on my stomach. Within seconds the buzzing started, but I told her let's try and work through it. I don't know how or what or why, but miraculously, the buzzing stopped. I was ecstatic! I scheduled my 5th session 3 weeks out, during which time I was curious to see if the sensation would resurface. I am happy to report that the buzzing diminished by like 95%. I can now sleep on my back and front, and recline without discomfort. Life is good again, thanks to Jennie and her healing hands.
