When I came in, i thought this would be a less nice experience than it was. The waitress was a little bit angry-faced at that time, maybe just a serious moment in her day. But afterwards that turned out ok and she proved to be good at her job, fast and nice to deal with.
I am usually accompanied by my Chinese partner who said that she and her friends had visited this place before and found the food to be great and authentic.
- We both ordered soup, which was ok (Wan Tan),
- a dish i could appreciate and not 'too much' Chinese (eggplant = aubergine) for which i thought the taste was very nice
- and as a second dish, the fish in a very oily sauce with some kind of Taugé (Soy sprouts) underneath and some sesame seeds sprinkled on top. Looked nice.
The last one was authentic for sure. I saw it being cooked like that in China and you can't find it in a European kitchen. But my Flemish taste buds could not jump up out of joy for this one. Not bad .. not great.. but authentic. Rather spicy too which I did like.
With some simple drinks, the bill added up to 41 euro.
Ok, but I noticed the portion sizes were not so big. It's not the kind of restaurant where you order 2 dishes and need to ask for a doggy bag.
Even with the soup, I could do with a third dish for the 2 of us.
At Sunday noon, the place was completely full to the extent that people had to be turned down cause there were simply no chairs available.
Food kept coming at a good speed, I think.
Taste : Good. The part that was not great is due to the fact that I didn't make the choice for dishes that were all adapted to my likings.
I bet if i order a Bami there, my appreciation would go from 3 to 4 stars.
Quality and authenticity of the food : Really good.
Price / quality : Price just ok. Portion size : rather small. Quality : good.
So I have seen better before in Price for quality but we need to keep in mind that this is Brussels. I guess they have to pay their rent too and it could be rather a lot there.
Cleanliness / open kitchen : Clean place and you can more or less (depending on where you get seated) see the cooks working.
5 stars for Cleanliness. read more
