I thought the food was fairly priced. The food however, didn't taste all too good. It was very bland. In fact, there wasn't much taste to it. I got ha-fen, which is a really simple dish. I make this at home and it tastes good. An inexperienced cook could make this. This dish had no flavor. We also got another unremarkable dish - I can't even remember what I ordered and this was two weeks ago. lol. Basically, food was mediocre/below par. The restaurant was very clean. I came here as a second choice because my first choice was closed on Mondays. I ordered the beef noodle soup, but it came in some kind of ramen style. The soup wasn't bad, but not the Taiwanese beef noodle soup I was hoping/expecting. The xiao long bao tasted more like small pork buns. I was hoping they'd pan fry them, but they weren't either. The water boiled beef was good and tasty. It got the heat that I was looking for. Speaking of heat, gawwwd. In the middle of a heat wave, I was thankful that they were still open, but they only got one AC system near the register. I was lucky to have a table near that slice of heaven.

A very nice lunch!…read more Kept things in perspective (as you should) in that we chose to eat Chinese food whilst in Belgium. The service was very friendly and fast. Even for lunch on a quiet Saturday the waitstaff seemed eager and attentive. The spring rolls were crunchy with a nice filling (tasted a little moe like lumpia, but I love both so meh..). The dimsum was hot and had a good variety of flavors. Also ordered chow mein that was okay but a little bland. The sweet/sour pork dish was interesting as it seemed to have a tomato base, almost like Italian fares but there was also plenty of ginger and the fried pork pieces were light and crunchy. Overall different, but a nice surprise and change from the norm. Considering we were in the heart of Flemish cuisine, I thought is was a very nice lunch. Decent, cheap Chinese food in central Brussels!…read more After a long day of traveling, a friend and I arrived in Brussels hungry and cold. As always, I was craving Chinese food, so we decided to go to Chao Chow, which I had seen on Yelp. Because it was dinner time, the €4 lunch special wasn't available, but there are a couple €6 dinner dishes, such as the basic fried rice or chow mein. Everything else is between €9-14 or so, which isn't terrible. The service is fast and good; I spoke Chinese with the waiter, and he kept complimenting me on my Chinese after finding out that I was actually Korean. We got our food in a matter of minutes. The taste was fine; not authentic but better than Panda Express level. I wish the food had come out a little hotter. Know also that there's no tap water available! And if you're a stickler about clean and hygienic kitchens, then maybe avoid this place. But Chao Chow is great for cheap, fast, and greasy Chinese food on a budget!

You choose the way in which you want the noodle cooked and the proteins and they bring the food over to you. The tables also have various condiments and spices should you want any additional flavouring. My faves here are the fried noodles with duck or crispy chicken, and the noodle soup with duck! I think the fried noodles are tastier but sometimes it's fun to switch it up. It can also be a bit carb-heavy seeing as there isn't a ton of plain protein dishes (such as roast duck on its own) or vegetable dishes. Additionally, it's a bit of a steep price for a bowl of noodles but it's fun to go every once in a while especially when cravings hit. We haven't had problems with getting seating since they have plenty of it upstairs, some downstairs, and outside (when the weather is nice). They also accept credit card!

That means that even though they have some rice dishes on the menu, you order noodles. We were looking for soup after having a lot of Belgian fries and Belgian food. Good thing we came here and took a chance on them. We were seated pretty quickly and someone took our order within 5minutes or so. Our noodles came about 5 minutes after that. All in all pretty fast and they seemed fairly busy with most tables outside taken, the downstairs dining room full and seemed like the upstairs dining room busy also. The noodles were freshly made and hand stretched. The soup for our noodles were very hot which is always a good thing and the portion size huge for the money. This was a solid bowl of noodles, better then a lot of places back home in the la area where there are probably over 100+ restaurants that make these same noodles. For being in brussles very good. We showed up at 7:30 to see if they would be able to seat us and they did. I initially found this place on Google because we needed some Chinese food and this place had good reviews/was close by our hotel. I'm not sure if the food was worth the 40 minute wait, but it satisfied the craving. We had the steamed pork dumpling. This was pretty meh - you could get similar quality in the freezer section. We then had the black pepper chicken. I was thankful for the huge portion but it was pretty salty. It definitely needed more than the bowl of rice it came with. Finally, the best dish of the night was beef chow fun. I didn't have high expectations for this one but it tasted pretty close to the ones at home in NYC, with plenty of wok hei. I'd definitely recommend this dish and if I were a betting woman, I would guess that their other noodle dishes might be pretty good too, so maybe just stick to those.

A true testimonial to the talented chefs! The restaurant is not large with seating for about 35. Indeed, the hostess/waitress had to turn away many clients during our dinner.
