This place came highly recommended by some friends so we came for dinner one night. Arrived 4 mins before opening but it wasn't an issue. Got seated right away. Ordered a couple of drinks and a couple of appys. Started with the har gow and the crispy shrimp. Both were excellent but I'm a Torontonian who spends most Sundays having dim sum in Chinatown. Over 8 euro for 3 hargow is robbery. I actually ordered them thinking these are gonna be good. Don't get me wrong, they're good but EXACTLY the same as the hargow we get for a couple of bucks. Crispy shrimp comes wrapped in tofu skins and deep fried. Excellent but also a little overpriced. For our mains we ordered a large gom bad chicken and a large fried vegetable noodle with a side of pak choy (bok choy?) and steamed rice. We, once again, ordered way too much food but both of this dishes were crazy good. Chicken was tender. Bok choy was super garlicky. Veggie noodles were packed full of veggies and eggs. Loved them both. Service was a little confusing. In the time we were there we had 4 different servers. Good thing there's no tipping. I highly recommend this place, just don't get the dim sum. As most places around Ixelles, you'll find that Dam Sum is much more accessible during the daytime hours than the evening hours. Try to come to Dam Sum in the evening any night if the week and you'd better hope that you are one of the few who arrive at 7pm to get your name in the list for a reservation, otherwise a 40 min wait is what you're looking at. The daytime hours are the game changer though. Walk in on a Sunday afternoon, and you're going to get a table. Also---you don't have to deal with surly hosts who may be fried by the volume of ppl accosting them to get a table during the evening hours. The staff we encountered were all super lovely, charming and kind. Which is a huge thumbs up in my book. I don't necessarily need staff to kiss my ass with great service, but when you get genuinely kind service it's a huge bonus and speaks volumes of the person and establishment. The ambiance is a cool, chill vibe. Vibrantly decorated, with a chefs table where on evenings you get a ringside show to the wonderfully talented women making fresh dumplings. My sister & I did a tour of all things vegetarian on their menu. I'd venture to say most of what we ate was vegan friendly if not 100% vegetarian. Essentially---welcome to a Europeanized version of Asian cuisine. Which means that the foods aren't going to be fried quite as much, and the flavors aren't going to as potent as authentic Asian fare. Nevertheless, Dam Sum is a worthy adversary to the multitude of restaurants that surround it. We started with 2 orders of the vegetarian dim sum, which were unexpectedly fantastic! You get so used to veg dumplings being so boring---that when you bite into these you're pleasantly shocked. Chock full of thin slices of tofu, shiitake mushrooms, carrots and spinach, and served with your choice of regular soy sauce or a soy sauce concoction with vinegar and garlic added to it. I was really glad we got two orders Bc one comes with three pieces. Next to arrive were the garlic fried rice and the spicy green beans. By far, my favorite things we ate. The fried rice had bits of egg in it---so if you don't want that, just let them know, and it was topped crispy, thin slices of fried onion. The green beans were fresh and super flavorful in the chili garlic sauce they were coated in. The mao pao tofu arrived shortly after these two dishes. This was possibly the most un-authentic of the dishes we ordered. However, it was pleasant. My sister though, was not too big of a fan. Chock full of if enokitake (enoki) mushrooms, peas, carrots, corn and silken tofu all swimming in a mild Sichuan sauce. It paired great with the fried rice but it wasn't notable enough to be a definite order on a subsequent visit. And last to arrive was the second thing we actually ordered which was the vegetarian noodle soup. Really mild but flavorful broth that allowed the fresh bok choy, shiitake mushrooms and carrots to swim happily without wilting too much or making the thick udon noodles get too soggy. It came with a side paste that is suppose to be spicy, but for to veteran spice-heads like my sister and I---was merely more of a flavor punch to the soup. I also ordered a normal size coffee which was really pleasant. All in all---for vegetarians, you're not going to leave famished. You'll be satisfied and the fate is a touch better than average but definitely healthier than any of your normal Asian take out joints. So---enjoy! read more

I've to say i liked it, i went there with a couple of friends to try the place out. i had some mixed feelings as I heard quite bad comments about this place.. but all turned out quite well, we started with a mocktail, SUPER FAN ! delicious and super decorated - loved it, took some dim-sum as starters (the buns are the best from far) and the beef "ramen" soup i actually liked the soup a lot - and will definitely return soon to get another one service is very dedicated and professional (although they forgot an order and made us wait for 40 min for one dish... mmm and no discount or excuses for it... well...) will leave a second review and more pictures on next time for sure read more

I've been there a couple of time already and noticed that not all the dim sum are freshly made. Only their signature dim sum are made from scratch. The rest are bought frozen and taste the same as the other chinese restaurants which is why I'm only giving 3 stars. As said by other reviewers, it's extremely hot inside... and the service was so so. We asked the waitress for clean chopsticks (my friend's chopsticks fell to the ground) but she never came. We had to take clean ones from another table by ourselves. Overall, a bit disappointed but the xiaolongbao and fried rice are worth the visit. read more

Food is wonderful I go back frequently. Tonight however the person working front of house has a bad attitude. I asked for a table and was told no, point blank with no suggestion of taking my name or anything. My point that this is different from normal was met with "Ouais normalement..." and a condescending smile. Excellent dim sum, made on the spot and full of freshness. We tried every one of the "dam sum" on the menu (except for the gyoza as there are plenty of them to be had in Brussels). They were all delicious, especially the Har Gao (steamed prawn), BBQ pork bun (mmmmmmm) and the pork Xiao Long Bao which has soup inside. Interesting, new and very tasty! The service was very friendly, if a little overwhelmed which can be expected to a point with a new opening, which I expect will improve with time. I was also surprised to find many tables blocked by reservations, which goes against the grain of dim sum as a fast, on the go, food. I suspect that this as well is a symptom of the new-opening buzz which should hopefully right itself. They have an interesting and well-priced cocktail list, as well as some interesting-looking mocktails. I will be back! read more

The xiao long bao are pretty good, but also had shu mai which was not good - very lumpy - and the noodles which were distinctly average. Also had the pleasant experience of having the waiter throw the soy vinegar all over me.... The decor is cool, but it's incredibly hot inside, and even worse in the bathrooms... I called and was told "no reservation" - when we got there around 21:00 a group of 6 people was allowed to pass because they had reserved. Apparently, some customers are more equal than others. Instead of being apologetic about this obvious mistake (you can reserve, apparently if you turn up early the same evening in person and reserve for later - but I was not given that information), staff was rather unfriendly. Great atmosphere! We quickly found new Asian friends on the neighbouring table and moved the tables together to spend a fun evening. Service was very friendly and cared a lot to make this outing a good experience. This place is becoming one of our regular haunts after the Wednesday night market in Chatelain. The fresh dim sum, the lovely soups and the liveliness of the place all contribute to a very positive dining experience. It really reminds me of an American eatery full of activity, as well as prompt and efficient service (not easily found in Belgium). As far as the quality of the dim sum goes, good! It's hard enough as it is to find a decent dim sum place in Brussels and this one's the best one I've been to so far. Not as good as your top ranked dim sum places in Hong Kong, but a very good addition to Brussels! Not too expensive either. read more
