I was so excited to go to Gourmandise as I have heard so many good things about this restaraunt- but was kinda disappointed. Walked into the restaraunt and was not greeted by any staff. I looked around, and saw a sign that said "please wait to be seated." I was meeting a couple friends so I waited and waited for about 20 minutes before being seated. During these 20 minutes multiple people passed and said "Someone will be with you shortly." There was a line of people forming behind me just to be seated. Our waitress was okay. She wasn't very nice in full transparency. Service was very slow, and we had to ask to have our drinks refilled several times. We also had to wait a long while for our meals to come out. However, the food is good! Makes me sad that the service is so poor, or else I'd be coming way more often. read more

Came for a lunch catch up with friends this week. The service was great, we were seated immediately and the server was always checking on us and refilling our drinks. I like that she told us the popular menu items and her favourite items as well. We ordered the Brussel sprouts to share and they are really yum! We then ordered our own meals. I had the citrus and goats cheese salad and it was delicious! We were in town visiting our daughter and decided to stop of lunch. The menu is not huge but there's something for everyone. I had the grilled cheese, my daughter had the brisket grilled cheese and my husband had a salad. We were very happy with our choices to the point that my daughter & I were getting full and thought about bringing half of our sandwiches home but they were just too good so we finished them. We ordered the veggie hash dish with eggs and our dishes were ice cold. The hash also was super uneventful, not browned, flavored and just awful. We had to send it back. We ended up getting just a pastry and that's not really what we were in the mood for. I felt bad for our sever. She later told us that that hash dish was her least favorite. I later found out that my daughter went there with a friend and their meal was terrible as well. Their Almond Horns are something that I crave! It's an almond paste cookie dipped in almonds and then half of it is dipped in chocolate. Mmmm They also have a special on Fridays, Salmon en Croute! It is a piece of salmon, wrapped in a puff pastry with a spinach creamy mixture in the middle. Then it comes with a lobster sauce. So good! If you like fish, check this out! Their rice is ok with it, but not my favorite. They also have some good macaroons, my favorite is their pistachio! It has such a good deep flavor of the nut and it is a soft, chewy inside with a nice crunch on the outside. They have some gorgeous looking desserts! They could be art! I used to be a fan of Gourmandise, but this last experience turned me into that Karen that says "you've lost a customer for life." I ordered two cakes (passion fruit and chocolate raspberry) over DoorDash for pickup. Told me to pickup in half an hour. Arrive half an hour later and they don't have my cake, hadn't looked at the order, and gave away the last chocolate raspberry to the person in front of us. Told us all the passion fruit cakes are currently frozen. And it is our fault because we should have read their website and seen they don't do less than 24 hours for cake pickup. It did not say that on DoorDash, and I don't know why they had 30 minute pickup as an option, or why that is my fault. Anyways, a long story made short, we waited 40 minutes to get two cakes we did not order while staff did not talk to us or tell us what was happening. At the end, they actually asked for a tip for the single worst customer service I've ever received in my life. There were zero apologies for the wait, for not having the cake, or for the rude service. And to top it off, the cake was not good. That chocolate cake was stale and tasted like it was soaked in tap water. The cheesecake was fine, but with what we paid and what we went through to get it, I would have expected something a bit better than what you get at Costco. All in all, extremely disappointed and sad. I had really liked this bakery, but I really don't think I'd return after this. I don't think I've ever had ruder service or worse cake. We came here for dinner since we were in the area and we wanted to try something new. It's a cute little cafe type restaurant with a nice interior and seating outside as well. We ordered the Euro burger with an egg on top. I ordered the club classic with cucumbers and kale, apple slaw as the sides. We also ordered a cup of the French onion soup. Our food didn't take too long to come out. My husband loved his burger and thought it was a 4/5. He said he didn't love the bun. It kept falling apart and needed a little more hearty bun to hold the burger. But he thought it tasted really good. My club sandwich was underwhelming. It was on dry toasted bread and it lacked any oomph and wasn't really flavorful. I kept dipping it into my husband's aoli for some flavor and moisture. I found myself wishing I had ordered something else, but there weren't many vegetarian options. We both loved the French onion soup though! It reminded us of the real thing in Paris! This is our go-to spot for DeLiCiOuS pastries! However, we stopped for dine-in lunch and took home some treats as well! We ordered pommes frites, Monte Cristo turkey sandwich, and kids noodles with butter and cheese. Our server was kind and super busy but not too busy to check in on us. The food, although good, was on the dry side - but I brought home my Monte Cristo and dipped it in homemade raspberry jam, and added Alfredo to the noodles and they were both perfect! Now, onto the treats! We got a box of tropical macarons, a passion fruit mousse slice, and (my all time favorite) a raspberry pistachio tartlet. We are saving those for later, but our mouths are already watering thinking of them because we've had them all before and know they will be absolute perfection! I have been to Gourmandise in Draper a handful of times now. I often prefer the downtown location, but this is so much closer and easier to get to. And our last couple of experiences have been much better than my initial one. My husband and I went for brunch on a snowy day a few weeks ago, and everything was good. We were seated after about 15 minutes. Our server did a great job. My husband had a Barq's root beer and the stew (at 10am; I guess stew and soda have no boundaries), and I had the bacon and egg croissant. The eggs were fluffy. I asked for some house mayo on the side, which added a good flavor to the sandwich. My fruit on the side was yummy too! I always love the presentation at Gourmandise. My hot chocolate was beautiful, but I dove in before getting a photo (Yelp Elite no no!). Most recently, I had lunch at Gourmandise in Draper with my sister in law a couple of weeks ago. She had my favorite--the Brie bacon grilled cheese. I wish they had that in the half sandwich/half salad lunch combo option, but they don't. So I had the turkey avocado panini. It was good! And just the perfect portion with the salad for lunch. Our server took a long time to come to our table at the beginning, and then took a long time to bring us our check at the end. We did a lot of waiting, which is fine since we were talking. But I also needed to get back to work. I'm not sure if she just had too many tables or if we were in forgettable spot or what. Pro tip: I primarily pick up kouign amanns from Gourmandise for my husband, and occasionally for myself. If you want those, you need to get there before noon, or even before 11am. When I asked for a kouign amann for him at lunch time, they only had pecan ones left (which is fine, but I'm a bit of a traditionalist). Overall, I love to take food lovers here, especially pastry/treat lovers. It is definitely an experience and worth visiting, even if you're just going to look at the case! read more

I met a friend in Salt Lake on Sunday to go to brunch. This was not our first choice but the place that we originally planned had a 1.5 hour wait. We ended up looking on yelp and finding that there was a Gourmandise close by so we went there instead. The wait was only about 15 minutes on Sunday morning which was nice. We sat down to order, and it took quite a while for our waitress to approach us. Out server was not very friendly. She seemed like she couldn't be less interested in being at work. I don't think I saw her smile one time during the entire meal. we asked her for recommendations since we hadn't been there before and we got a very short and cold answer. I want my server to engage with me and act like they're excited that I am there to eat. My friend ordered waffles and I ordered a ham and cheese Panini type sandwich. My sandwich was definitely better than the waffles. The sandwich was buttery and cheesy and crunchy which I enjoyed. I liked the cucumbers that came with it but wasn't a huge fan of the quinoa salad that came with it. It was good but nothing special. The tables were extremely small and very close to each other. I felt like we were having breakfast with a couple next to us and wondered if I should have asked them to join in our conversation. I did not like how close they were to each other. After finishing her breakfast, we looked at the pastries in the pastry counter. While they looked very delicious, they were quite expensive. We ended up buying one raspberry cronut type thing. This was definitely the star of the visit! It was incredible! It was flaky and crunchy and did not lack raspberry flavor. I would go back just for this. So I'm going to give this establishment a three star because of the grumpy service. The food I would say was maybe a six out of 10 but the pastry was a 10 out of 10 for sure! read more

However we were seated near a noisy kitchen even though there were several other tables available. Once seated, we thought they must have forgotten us since no one stopped by to acknowledge us, bring us water or take our order for quite some time even though they had a slew of help just loitering in the kitchen on their phones. From the comments here, it does seem like service is a problem which is a shame because there's so much potential in a place like this. The food unfortunately was also mediocre at best - I had the rigatoni with bolognese sauce and my wife had a salad with beets. The sauce for the rigatoni was very thin, bland and slurpy, almost like a soup, with none of the advertised vegetable garnish. And no bread to go with an Italian dish like Rigatoni! Adding two reviews into one for this review. This past week we had gourmandise catered into work. There were so many lunch box options. I ordered in a strawberry walnut salad. It was BEAUTIFUL!! So colorful & it was so fresh. I loved the vinaigrette dressing that came with this salad. Portion size was perfect. The petit almond horn dessert included in this box was amazing! it was like a cakey cookie. Everyone at work was talking about how delicious it was. I missed out on a picture of this. Two days later I ended up going here on a date to grab dessert. The building is beautiful. There is plenty of parking so that wasn't an issue. They have so many desserts to pick from so it was kind of hard deciding on just one. I picked the peach dessert which resembles a peach made with two sweet brioche rolls, soaked in a peach syrup with cream custard in the middle. I didn't realize it was soaked in a peach syrup until I was eating it. The top was pretty good, not super peachy. The bottom was more peachy but the sogginess of it, wasn't my jam. I ended up not finishing it. I wish I would have read the description better when ordering. My date ordered a cinnamon honey crème brûlée. He really enjoyed it. They brûléed the sugar on the top as you order it. This was pretty fancy & cool watching them do this. I tried a little bit & it was pretty good! Fun to try a different kind of crème brûlée instead of the usual kind. I Definitely recommend this place for the salads & your sweet tooth cravings. My friend and I stopped by cause we wanted something sweet and Gourmandise was the closest option for us. I used to go to Gourmandise all the time when they only had their DTSL location and it was always such a treat. The only menu item I really enjoy here is the tiramisu because it's always constant in taste. Sometimes I don't enjoy branching out to try different things on the menu. Gourmandise is a great spot for late night as well, but my warning is that they might be out of a specific dessert (in our case it was the cheesecake). They do offer food and drink here as well. If you sit down, they recommend that you order with your server. You can go up to the bakery area to look at the desserts, but you'll want to go back to your seat and order with your server.
