I am helping my girlfriend who is currently using the Got Sit program to train her dogs, and I see many problems with this training program. First, the site has a lot of fluffy language that doesn't seem to accomplish anything to the reader and helped me learn zilch. I also saw fluffy positive reviews added here on Yelp, indicating a business may have people coming here to false-report. Negative review commentary is far more detailed and applies more than the positive reviews do to what I am currently experiencing - the company is bossing her around and not helping with her questions and this is still an ongoing issue - there are complaints of a bossy, bullying Marvin guy who owns the business who barks at pet owners if they don't do their "homework." He bitched about the dogs barking when he rang the doorbell the second time he came out to train, saying, "you haven't been doing what I asked you." I hold a Master Degree in Education; I also have study in behavioral psychology and I see the dogs are getting nowhere. It also would appear that none of the trainers that are sent out have any previous training experience coming onto the job - Marvin trains these trainers in his training approach or "system" but doesn't provide any curriculum so it's a big secret how they actually train your animal.
You should ask: How do they do it? What do they do? Why do they do it? How long does it take? All these questions should be answered on the SITE!
Moreover, there is no description of the instructional objectives, nor any mention of written materials, videos, or online instructional materials that you can consult in-between. With the price paid for the training, I would certainly expect this to be there, or at least a printed manual. What if you have a problem with one of the vibration collars? How do you configure or fix it without online help or written instructional materials? Currently, you have to text Marvin and hope he's not very busy. Marvin seems to be the support guy, too?
While some of us are excellent visual learners, many of us need written course materials, a syllabus, a curriculum, complete with how-to modules and individual lessons that we can follow. Right? What are we supposed to do in-between the five in-person sessions? Who can we go to (other than Marvin) for questions? Why is there no FAQ or online materials on this site? No mention of the pedagogy behind the training? Any professional dog training course would have these written materials, an instructional video, or something stating what the psychology behind the training is, what the program accomplishes, and what you as a customer can expect after 3-6-9 weeks of instruction. None of this is on the site - shouldn't that bother you?
Upon completing the five in-person training sessions the group training is conducted outside of, or in back of public school in the north Puget Sound area.
I am not seeing the hand-holding that is so desperately needed from the Got Sit trainers. The essence of the program itself isn't made clear to the customer on the website and ultimately to the pet for the price paid.
