A Climatic noodle experience in this here bowl.
Caitlin S.

Konnichiwa, Goshu Ramen! If the smiling faces of the delightful staff don't brighten your day when you walk in, then just give it a bit ... The delicious, MASSIVE, $12 bowl of udon is absolutely certain to turn your frown! I always judge a book by it's cover, and I never would've opened this one up had it not been for it being a freezing Friday night in Sydney and located next to my boyfran's work. For not being a real fan of Sydney CBD food - as it tends to be extremely expensive and many times not worth the price - I was reluctant to flirt with his suggestion. But I must say, that bowl of vegetable noodles was one of THE BEST, and the biggest, I've ever had! I'm a big eater, and that bowl full was enough for two meals. For a starter we had the agadeshi tofu ($6) which was nice, but nothing to rave about.. And as mentioned before, the udons were out of this world, and the vegetable tofu set my partner got ($14) was "just nice" as well. For ambiance, the place is pretty standard, but they have heaters and blankets for outside seating which is perfect for a chilly winter night. Summary: If you find yourself looking for a cheap, delicious, super filling and casual lunch or dinner option, then please do yourself a favor and dive on in to a bowl of udons. And let me know when you're going; I'll definitely join you!

Shisen Ramen $14.50

Don't be fooled by the drawing of the lone chili pepper next to certain menu items. It does not mean "little spicy", it just means "spicy". I ordered the Shisen Ramen which had a beautiful spicy broth with slices of Thai chillies ladled throughout. The bowl was packed full of noodles, meat, and a delicious assortment of veg including fresh, still slightly crunchy, green beans. My lips started getting that chili burn after the first couple of slurps, and I was taken to my happy place. For $14.50 you'll find cheaper ramen around- heck, hunter connection is just down the hill- but I'd be very surprised if you could find something tastier.

Empty as it should be.

Motto is the underdog of Japanese restaurants at Sussex Centre. Not only do they live in the shadow of highly rated Ramen Ikkyu, but Motto's location doesn't get the best foot traffic either. The escalators up from ground floor plop you out on the opposite side. This was my third time visiting Motto. Typically, there would be one or two very helpful and courteous girls who greet and coax you into checking out their menu. Thank goodness for picture menus! This time there was a dude by the of Chris working behind the counter. He first thanked me for stopping to look at the menu, then after suggesting that I should try one of the deep-fried options, he thanked me again for ordering. Genuinely courteous? Absolutely! CHICKEN KATSU PLATE ($9) OMG!!!! Best bang for your buck for suuuuure! The chicken is exactly how Chicken Katsu is supposed to be made. Crispy, flaky outside and juicy inside. If you've read my other reviews, you know I can consider myself a bit of a Chicken Katsu snob since that's my go-to-dish at Japanese restaurants. To top things off with this belly-loving dish, you get rice, a side salad w/dressing and miso soup... Oh and almost forgot THE BEST part - FREE ICE CREAM!!!!! Definitely coming back again to try another suggestion..

I asked them I make my chicken extra spicy and they definitely delivered! Love the spicy red sauce they had and it was a great portion size- just perfect for after a 3 hour bike ride around the city! Come discover this gem!
