My co-worker first referred me to Gorrell Smiles. That was over 2 years ago and I am still coming back till this day. He told me it was the best dentist he had found since moving to the Bay Area over 15 years ago. Well, its definitely my favorite dentist I have ever been to. Before you appointment, they send out appointment alerts. I find these extremely helpful and a perfect reminder to not miss the appointment. Once you get to their office, everyone from the from the front office to the hygienists and dentists are extremely friendly and professional. They are attentive to their customers and make each visit extremely personal. For the majority of my 2 years, I have had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Gorrell himself along with Hope as my hygienist. This is a long overdue review. I have been seeing Dr. Gorrell & staff since he opened his office in Mountain View - 25+ years?, and I saw his mentor Dr. Wedding prior to that going back to the mid-1980s, and I can not think of a single negative experience. Note that I (necessarily) include his staff in this review. He and they are like family. When I come in for a routine visit, they remember my name, offer me a cup of coffee or tea while I wait, verify the nature of my visit and my insurance so there are never any surprise charges. When I'm put into the chair, I'm offered a heated neck support, dark glasses to protect my eyes, a blanket if I'm cold, a gel to protect my lips, and generally fussed over, which is much appreciated. The hygienists are efficient, friendly and professional. The same for Dr. Gorrell and his dental assistants, who make dental procedures as pain free as possible. The office is clean and modern looking, and I especially like that they seem to be on top of the latest advances in dental care. During my last visit I came in to have a crown made, and I was surprised that they now had the capability to make the crown in house so I didn't have to make a follow up appointment. I'd also like to mention that on at least three occasions when I or my wife had an emergency - a broken tooth, a lost filling and a crown that fell off come to mind, they made special arrangements to have us come in to have the repairs done as soon as they reasonably could. I would rather give birth than have a root canal. I am terrified of dentists and am one of those people who gets white knuckles during a cleaning. My fear is without reason. I've never had a bad experience at the dentist, but that doesn't make any difference to my brain, or my knuckles. My new patient appointment went well. I need work, but the game plan was laid out I think I can handle it, although I could probably handle it better with drugs. What I really like about this dentist is that he doesn't touch silver fillings until there's an issue. I like that philosophy. Now I just hope he NEVER retires, or moves to Idaho, like my last dentist. My second appointment was for a cleaning and I survived. The hygienist, Joyce, was sensitive to my fear and she did a great job with my nerves and with the cleaning. It's evident by her work that she loves her job. My third appointment was for a filling and a "cerac" which is a crown that they make and install all in one appointment - AMAZING! It's expensive, but worth every penny. The best dentist I've ever been to. It seriously is like a spa and not like going to a dentist at all. They are super serious about your oral hygiene and very professional when taking care of you. Also, the only dentist that I've been to that asks me to pay my bill up front and have the insurance company reimburse later. Greatest dentist on the planet! It's like going to a spa!

I just had my second visit at Gorrell Smiles, and I very pleased and impressed by the efficiency, professional conduct, and overall pleasantness of the staff and Dr. G himself. My first visit was 90 minutes after I called for an emergency appt. I had called two other offices on the strength of Yelp reviews and neither could take me for at least a week. I was able to complete the usual forms online before arriving. The receptionists were welcoming, the dental assistant, dental hygienist, and dentist worked smoothly together, and my emergency was addressed promptly. My second visit was a week later, for a deep cleaning and a replacement crown--I was in and out in under two hours. Top of the line equipment and very capable professionals, well choreographed to give excellent care. I have needed implants for three years, and am convinced these are the people to do it right. read more

Dr Gorrell is a life saver! I've had TMJ my whole life, but so much worse after I was treated for breast cancer w radiation and developed a nasty case of lymphedema. I had chronic headaches and a sore in my mouth that wouldn't go away for a year. I just assumed it was all related to the cancer treatment and resigned to living in chronic pain. It was awful. Then along comes Dr Gorrell, fits me for a "deprogrammer" and almost overnight the pain in my jaw, neck, shoulder improved and the sore on my tongue healed. This man can transform anyone's teeth resembling the swamp creature from the lagoon, to beautiful igloo bricks...I first found Dr. Gorrell through a friend, and at that time, I was experiencing horrible toothaches...my former dentists kept re-drilling and refilling the same tooth without any concern for my pain. When I visited Dr. Gorrell, he was immediately aware that I had a hairline crack, and no amount of re-filling would fix that area--instead of crying over the years and wasted trust I placed in charlatans, I'm just thankful to be in the care of this gentleman and very knowledgable team. The office is friendly, reliable, understanding, flexible, professional, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to visit each time (even when I've had work done). Comfort is priority with the office: from making sure my lips aren't chapped when my teeth are being cleaned to the blanket over my legs and the heated pad on my shoulders. They keep up with current practices. The staff are all friendly with each other and stay with the office. Dr. Gorrell makes sure that he greets you and checks in before he checks your mouth. Dr. Gorrell is the best dentist i have ever been to. I am having TMJ problems and pain currently and through working with Dr. Gorrell I have been able to reduce the pain and am currently working to further fix the problem. He is very understanding and knowledgeable when it comes to TMJ problems. They are a full service dentist/orthodontist office and i will be getting my cleanings, etc here from now on as well. I had been suffering from severe TMJ pain for nearly a year when I came upon Dr. Gorrell. Before that I had been to my regular dentist, who doesn't deal in TMJ, two oral surgeons who offered nothing more than, "It will probably stop on its own," two accupuncturists who applied lots of needles but gave no pain relief and a very nice osteopath who put his hands on my jaw (for about seven appointments) but also, offered no pain relief. I also went to a massage therapist who advertised TMJ pain relief, but the pain she put me through with her "treatment" was worse than any I'd already experienced from the condition. When I asked her how she learned how to treat TMJ pain, she said she had made up her own technique! I was even taking something akin to Vicodin for awhile and the pain was still there - even though I felt so floaty, I didn't seen to mind it as much. I was, however, starting to feel nervous about long term use. When I finally found Dr. Gorrell, quite serendipitously, he said he thought he could help and boy did he ever! He made both a night guard and a day guard and after about a week of using them I felt a tremendous change. I have improved steadily in the three months I've been treated. I had an appointment today and realized, when I filled out the "how are you doing?" form that I was putting "one" for how bad the pain is. When I started, it was around eight. The pain only comes now if I leave the guard out for too long. I look forward to living a normal life without constant pain and I will be forever grateful to Dr. Gorrell. read more
