An amazing office. Today, I had a different hygienist than my regular, who is fabulous and I am deeply devoted to. To my surprise, this hygienist was also so skilled and lovely. I am also consistently impressed with the two dentists who have performed work on me. I am fortunate to have had many good dentists in my lifetime, and this office is the best. In the four years I've been a patient, I've never experienced any billing funny business nor procedure pushiness/upselling. This is really as good as it gets when it comes to dentistry, orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry. After a few unpleasant experiences with dentists, my anxiety grew and I became reluctant to make dentist appointments. I desperately needed one of my front teeth bleached and was told by others I would need a costly veneer. Dr. Gorrell took one look and told me it could be fixed with a simple internal bleaching process. I couldn't be happier! I now see him every 6 months for cleaning and check-ups, and am in the process of starting the Invisalign treatment to fix my bottom teeth. Dentistry is expensive but my money and time are valued here. The staff are gently, polite, honest and welcoming (neck warmers, blankets, comfy seats, friendly smiles!) and I now LOVE coming to the dentist. I had my first appointment here today and had an excellent experience. The office is taking sanitizing very seriously, with patients receiving a temperature check, oxygen check, and asking us to sanitize our hands and then wear gloves. All surfaces I came into contact with were clean or covered in single-use plastic. They also had a giant air purifier at the foot my chair as well as a vacuum that was on overhead while my teeth were being cleaned. Dr. Gorrell was friendly and efficient. I can be a little nervous during a cleaning but my hygienist was great and checked in with me several times. Thank you for a great first appointment! read more

My family and I have been seeing Dr. Gorrell and his staff for years and years and years. My father was a patient of his (and of his mentor, Dr. Wedding, before that). None of us has ever had a bad experience. I've seen Eugenia, Joyce and Hope for my cleanings and all of them are amazing. I'm a huge chicken when it comes to any kind of dental work and Dr. Gorrell and his team are super patient and never make me feel silly or stupid (even when I've told them for about the thousandth time to be careful when working on my bottom teeth which are sensitive). :-) One thing that I especially love about Dr. Gorrell is his willingness to offer alternate solutions. Example: I needed periodontal surgery but just couldn't afford it at the time. I shared that with Dr. Gorrell and he came up with an alternate treatment plan for a fraction of the cost. And he didn't make me feel bad for asking. :-) I've referred several people to Dr. Gorrell, including my boss (that should show you how much confidence I have in Dr. Gorrell and his team!) Oh, and all of the front office staff are wonderful!!! Merlene retired a while ago, and I can't recall everyone else's names - except for Suzy who has been there, I'm pretty sure, for as long as I have been going. I was so pleased with the COVID protocols at Gorrell Smiles. I was very hesitant to go in during the pandemic and had delayed my appointment multiple times. I wish I hadn't! They called me up only when it was my turn so I was in the waiting room for all of five seconds. They kept empty rooms between patients so only the professionals were ever near me. Everyone had masks and face shields, and they even had a special ventilation system that went right next to me while my teeth were being cleaned. Super top notch. My dentist said he could not find a reason for a serious tooth ache. On referral from several friends I took a chance and got a second opinion from Dr Gorrel. He was spot on with his diagnosis and fixed my ailing tooth, probably saving the tooth. The procedure went very well. His staff is delightful and obviously enjoys working for the Doctor. My spouse and I were referred to Dr. Gorrell's office by a relative. First, the office location was conveniently located. It's easy to access from the freeway, there is ample parking, and there are lots of options to do before or after your appointment. Second, the office was very welcoming, the reception area was well planned and well stocked with good reading materials. They even have space where you can hang your jacket so you won't have to lug it around (it was raining when we went). The staff were very friendly. They also have you use tablets as a first time visitor so you don't have to write on paper. Dr. Gorrell was very nice and thorough during the consultation for veneers. He explained the pros and cons of each option. He also explained the process clearly so we had a clear understanding of what our expectations should be. After that initial meeting, we decided we will move to this dental office not only because it was convenient for us in terms of location and hours, but also because we had such a positive experience when we went there. The second visit we had there was for a regular cleaning. Lillian, the RDH, did the work. She meticulously cleaned the teeth. She made it a point to check in to see if we were feeling okay. She even let us use sunglasses to make sure the lights don't hurt our eyes (something that our previous dentist didn't do). There was also a monitor so you can watch if you want. The office staff were great as well. They were upfront about costs and they were pretty quick in terms of checking with the insurance what was covered and what was not and what will be our share. I don't recommend going to this office, at least the dentist I saw made my visit not so good. I do appreciate them taking me in so last minute. The front desk lady was very kind and accommodating However, the visit was extremely rushed to start off with. I went in for tooth pain. The dentist spent maybe a total of 5 minutes with me just to tell me I need a $2,000 crown and maybe even a root canal. She started the visit off by telling me my tooth is decaying. and there is a crack. When I asked her what she meant by that, she insisted it was just the same thing as a cavity...which is incorrect. I did my research and I also had two different dentists confirm the next day that decay and cavities are different. She made it seem like my tooth was rotting. I agreed to do the crown thinking it was my only option and scheduled an appointment for the following day. 20 min later I get a call from the office telling me they're going to cancel my appointment and recommend I see a root canal specialist because the dentist doesn't feel comfortable treating the tooth. She was so insistent on maybe needing a root canal. I've gotten several root canals done and every dentist was able to tell me if I actually needed one before making a unnecessary visit to a specialist. The next day, I ended up seeing two other dentists who diagnosed me with a teeth grinding issue and confirmed I don't need a root canal, saving me thousands of dollars. Although a crown was suggested by them as well, they still gave me other options to fill the tooth temporarily if I can't afford a crown at the moment. They even said the crack in my tooth was due to a previous filling falling out and no where near a "decaying tooth." I felt like they were only trying to get money out of me without throughly examining me. She didn't give me the choice of even doing a filling. She went straight to needing a crown/root canal. I walked out more anxious than I did walking in. Don't recommend going here unless you want to be over charged and given unnecessary treatments. read more

Been here twice for cleaning and deep cleaning. The first visit was awesome. Excellent communication during cleaning, very friendly hygienist (sorry I forgot her name :(, and definitely a 5/5 experience. For the second visit though, the actual cleaning experience was great and I received very thorough post-deep-cleaning instruction from the hygienist. However the discussion regarding removing the wisdom teeth went totally wrong... I have mentioned multiple times to Hope, the hygienist, that during my last visit I had discussion with Dr. Jiwani and we decided to keep watching on the wisdom teeth. But she appeared to be really against the idea and kept pushing me to do consultation with specialists and at one point even said, "I don't care what you say. If they (the specialists) say remove it, remove it". And this seems very unprofessional to me for the hygienist to keep pushing on an idea, that is mainly preventative and which I had sought medical advice from the same clinic, and saying it in such a forcing way without respecting any patient's view. This ruins the whole experience of the second visit even though the main cleaning part was great. 2/5 for the second visit. read more

This is actually my very first review on yelp. My wife and I have been patients of Dr. Gorrell for more than 12 years, and we have been very happy with his dental services. During those years we moved to east bay and also stationed abroad for two years, but we stick to his office all the time (we made appointments during our vacation time back to bay area while we lived in Asia). Not only he has a very nice and clean office, but the staff in his office are all super friendly, nice and personal. They are also very helpful and accommodating to our schedules. Dr. Gorrell is also a very nice gentleman, very honest and trustworthy. He always gave professional recommendations and never tried to up-sell any services not necessary. Joyce has been doing my routine cleaning work all the years and she is amazing, and fun to talk to. We definitely would recommend them without any hesitation. read more

Dismissive. Unhelpful. Disappointed. Doctor did not at all listen to my concerns and basically told me my jaw issues with clear aligners would disappear and that I should go back to my previous orthodontist to finish treatment...which showed me that he was not listening. I told him that my previous ortho recommended that I we stop the aligner treatment and try braces due to my jaw issues. Then all of a sudden he was like "yea yea braces should do the job"... I wanted to see if fast braces would be on option or if he could recommend another treatment... but he barely did a consultation and said to go back to my previous ortho. I was initially looking for new ortho after losing trust in my previous ortho since I paid $5k for clear aligners that did not end up working out. I went to another orthodontist nearby and they gave me a proper consultation... I also walked out with a payment plan for braces. Won't be recommending this place to family and friends. read more

Dentists are scary, but not Dr. Gorrell!! He is AWESOME and worth my drive! I've been seeing him for about 5 or so years. Let's just say once upon a time I strayed for insurance reasons and that was a horrible mistake! Sure, he's a bit more expensive than other dentists, but as you will notice the office is nice and the equipment is updated. He's not in my dental insurance network, but he's worth the cost and I'm worth getting quality dental care. Besides, he makes sure I'm comfortable and cares about my fears of "the drill". From the moment I walk in I am greeted warmly by Merlene and Suzy. Both are friendly and helpful. I had issues with my insurance covering a procedure, but Merlene was on top of it and took care of all the calls and research with the insurance. Unlike my new husband's dental office who told me I had to look up my insurance's address myself. I asked if her she could Google it, but she said no that I needed to provide it to her. Merlene would NEVER do that to me. Maybe I'm spoiled, but I hate dealing with unhelpful people that would generally have access to this information in the first place. Maybe I can convince my husband to switch one day:) Sandra, the dental assistant, is a total sweetheart. I've seen both Joy and Eugenia for cleanings and they are both nice, gentle and efficient. I make sure to remind them of the areas of sensitivity and they always take steps to ensure I'm comfortable and they don't cause any pain. Also, they offer a warm neck roll and blanket for your comfort. I do miss getting the lip balm they use to give out. The entire staff is friendly, professional, and caring! read more

We just moved to the area and I needed to find a new dentist - always a daunting task! I was impressed by the reviews of Dr Gorrell and his team and can honestly say that they exceeded my expectations. Friendly, happy office staff who have been with Dr Gorrell for years - and they seem to know their patients on sight. What prompted me for this review was an unpleasant office visit. With all the excellent reviews, I did not expect unfriendliness, but unfortunately so. I was new to the office and had an exam and cleaning. The doctor(not Dr. Gorrell) suggested a couple fillings and with one filling, the doctor provided two options, a) filling, b) crown because there was a good-size existing filling. The first appointment was all good. The treatment plan showed that crown would cost 10x more on the patient portion. So I asked for a treatment appointment with Dr. Gorrell. Being straightforward, I mentioned that I prefer filling over crown if that is doable, and I would like to get Dr. Gorrell's opinion. To my surprise, asking for Dr. Gorrell's opinion made the second visit awkward. The assistant wore a cool face, the doctor made the greeting while washing hands with his back to me. During the process of filling, it was uncomfortable as the rinsing wasn't never thorough, the doctor never cared to ask how I feel, while the doctor and assistant were chatting about upcoming vacation. I felt I was not welcomed. The bill. I was given a quote of $155 two days ago, while the final bill was $274. The explanation was that the original quote was for a different doctor. I gave my feedback to the office: 1) feeling not welcomed just because I asked for second opinion from the primary doctor 2) not being updated on significant billing increase. The response from the office was that, Dr. Gorrell has a high standard of care, and that they have to honor what insurance company dictates as fees. Clearly, not recognizing any issue and no interest in any improvement. It was a sad and disappointing experience. read more

I met Araceli from the office and after discovering she works for a dental office, I made a joke about how my molar broke in half after doing a root canal about 5 years and never getting the crown put on. She was horrified and told me I need to come in to see Dr. Gorrell, just to take a look. My biggest concern was pain. If it hurts, I won't do it. After a few visits (through cleaning, tooth extraction, then deep cleaning and finally a perfect filling for my #15 tooth), I feel sooo much better. This is like the Ritz-Carlton of dentistry. Heated oatmeal neck rest, gentle hands from the dentist assistant all the way to Dr. Gorrell himself, tinted goggles to keep the bright procedure lights from blinding your eyes. My question is why did I wait so long and how come I only heard about them just now? The best part, they don't try to sell you a bunch of procedures or products I don't need, put your oral care first and gave me advice as if I was a relative. I've been raving about them to all my coworkers and friends!! read more
