Awful customer service... We needed a septic inspection for our escrow and called Gopher since one of our new neighbors uses them. Yvonne was so difficult to work with. As we were scheduling the inspection via email, we asked her basic questions (what time, how long will it take, whether I need to be present, etc.), and she never addressed them at all: she would just repeat the same reply of "my manager will be there"... We even responded with the questions listed out in bullet points to no avail. Luckily we found another septic company that was so much better (customer service, expertise) after, and we will continue to use them in the future. read more

This company was hired by the realtor that sold the house to us back in 2018. They inspected, pumped, and re-certify the septic tank before they put the house on the market. Read the report and paid plumber for my own independent inspection. Found out there were root intrusions between the drain pipe coming out of the house and up to the septic tank. I gave them copy of the report and they said they will fix whatever needed to be done. I specifically requested to replace that pipe because I wasn't comfortable with having "minor root intrusions" as they coined it. Minor intrusions for me means the pipe is broken and dirt is going inside and roots are growing Six months after, we had a sewer back up inside the house and found out they didn't replace the whole pipe and also learned after digging by the company we hired that one segment of the pipe coming out of the house had holes and was never replaced. read more

We recently purchased a new house and inspection stated that the septic tank needed replacing. After calling a few different people, it was clear that Cliff at Gopher Construction was the most professional and most knowledgeable. He explained that we didn't need to replace the tank, but could just fix it which would cost less than half of what we were originally quoted (because I'm sure the other guy is a crook!). A 'rooter" service had ripped of my elderly parents on a $7,800.00, twenty-five foot sewer "reline" job while i was living out of state, and the sewer began backing up again within weeks. I came back and two friends gave enthusiastic recommendations for Gopher. I called, and Chad came out that afternoon with his scope/camera. He showed us the FOUR FEET of reline that had been done, as well as all the 1" roots nearly filling the inside of the pipe. He warned us that the roots prevented his camera from going further, but the pipe most likely needed to be completely replaced, possibly under our terrazzo flooring... He gave us a bid which we accepted immediately, without getting any competing bids. It was clear that we could trust this guy. The next morning his 2-man crew (a journeyman plumber and an experienced helper) arrived 30 minutes EARLY and began digging. As feared, the pipe was completely broken (probably by the "rooter" people). It was unclear if there were more breaks further in. The crew contacted Chad by phone, and we all decided to dig under the terrazzo, rather than through it. And again, another complete break. Two hours later the pipe was repaired, a new clean out was installed at the break site, and another was installed farther down line. The dirt was replaced, and the plants replanted, and they left the area cleaner than when they arrived. They completed the work for half the bid price, minus the earlier fee for scoping the pipe, and they finished an hour early. The gave us a root killer to apply every three months, just in case. These guys, from the boss to the helper, are top notch - the way every business should treat their customers. We enthusiastically recommend Gopher! read more

We hired Gopher Construction after getting a fairly high estimate from another septic company. As it turned out, GC had done work on our system years ago before we owned the house. Mike came out for the initial visit and review the situation giving us a cost estimate with a range that would depend on the amount of work actually needed. They sent out a team within a week that arrived on time, was very courteous and explained what they planned to do. After they excavated some of the system, they let us know what they discovered and provided more detail on the work that was needed. The project entailed replacing the pipe and cover to the main septic tank to bring it up to code (replacing the old 8" access with 18"), pumping the tank, treating the primary and secondary seepage pits to make them function well, and inspecting a mystery pipe that actually led to a third seepage pit. They installed a new pipe and cover on pit #3 to give us access to all components of our septic system. The GC team finished the work in about 5 hours and the final bill came in $1,000 below the original estimate. How cool is that! Gopher Construction is the company to call if you need septic service. I used gopher construction to clean out my septic tank and remove some roots in it, and put concrete around the sides to protect from intrusion. After spending thousands of dollars to have this done, they told me everything was fine with the tank (after I had to contact them several times for the verbal report). Then I go to sell my house and another inspector finds roots all in the septic tank, one year later. What a waste of money and I don't even believe they did the job completely. They had two guys there that tore up my yard and even left a plastic bottle in the yard when they left. Do yourself a favor and find a reputable company that actually completes the work they say they are doing. They took my money and now I will have to pay more thanks to their terrible work. read more

Let me start by saying that I do extensive research before hiring any company to do any type of work on my home. I do not settle with one company, rather, I bring multiple companies to evaluate their assessment of the project and see if it aligns with my personal research. I also want to mention that I was not paid to write this review or in any way do I have affiliation with this company other than the work I have contracted them to do for me. Mike and his team at Gopher Construction are truly one of a kind. We had a whole new septic system installed (by a different company), and after experiencing a backup of waste back into the house, we knew something was wrong. As a result, I brought multiple other septic companies to assess what the issue was and they ALL suspected the way the tank was installed was "funny" and "odd" due to the positioning of the septic tank and the piping involved. After speaking with Mike, and identifying what the issue was, we decided to correct this problem with Gopher Construction. The personnel at this company are truly knowledgeable in their work, and will explain everything to you in a step-wise fashion. I was told to expect the workers to arrive by 8 AM. The professionalism this company maintains was exhibited through the workers being cordial and arriving 15 minutes before the promised time at 8 AM on both days; what a great first impression! I was fortunate enough to be home during the two days the work was done, being able to observe every step of the process. The amount of detail considered during the work was impeccable. Even when I had questions as to why certain things were being done, the workers explained it to me in detail. Again, I don't just settle with what someone tells me, so during their work, I conducted my research while sitting outside observing them to see if what I was being told was consistent with the literature online, and to no surprise, found no discrepancies. To top it off, once the main issue was resolved, Mike found that one of our seepage pits was not connected as part of the active septic system. Upon asking whether he felt we should connect the pit to our current system, he mentioned that it is up to our discretion, but in his professional judgement, we should be okay for years to come with the current system. This alone proved to me that he is not financially motivated in trying to take advantage of a situation. Mike and his company do anything they can to help you get the job done within your budget. Overall, we are very satisfied with the work done, and I would recommend Mike and Gopher Construction wholeheartedly without any reservations. read more

I can't rate them high enough. In the process of selling our house, another contractor told the parties that the tank was completely shot and would have to be replaced for about $35K. We had Cliff and his team come take a look, primarily just to give another estimate. They thoroughly inspected with cameras and concluded that no replacement was needed. The inspection videos were easy to follow, had full context so you knew you were looking at the right property, and included an understandable report. Ultimately, we did need a few spot repairs, but nothing more. They performed the work in short order and both buyer and seller were greatly impressed and absolutely satisfied. Delayed our construction by telling us that updating septic would be $60-90k. Found out a year later well into plan check that actual cost would be $25k. Had to start over. The best part is that the septic system Gopher recommended would also need yearly maintenance which would be more $$. Met a couple the other day who were quoted the same price at 90k and they replaced theirs in 4 days for 25k. read more

In getting ready to do some serious landscaping we decided to have the sewer lines checked and located. We hired a local company Gopher Construction and asked them to camera the system and check for the location of the clean out. It seems previous builders placed it in the wrong place and we found out that we did need to install a back water valve. This is a valve that prevents sewer water coming back into your system when sewer is being cleaned or a neighbor has a clog below your grade. They were on time and very professional in all aspects of their job. Supplied us with video showing procedure used on our property. They explained exactly what we needed to do and what parts would be needed. They cut the cement and installed the wash out and the back water valve replaced the cement at the price quoted. We would highly recommend Gopher Construction to anyone who needs a professional job done on their sewer system. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! I used this company to inspect the septic system when I purchased a house back in 2014, my first home purchase in LA in fact and my first experience with septic systems. Their report stated that the system was in good working order and did not need pumping, and in their recommendations section they only suggested a couple of small optional upgrades such as an effluent filter. So I went ahead with the purchase. Cut to a couple of weeks ago (6 years on) and the house starts to smell of sewage and I contact the company to ask for a rec to pump the system, and attached their original report as a reminder. They respond saying that there is no access pipe to the system and that the system cannot be pumped unless we dig down 7 feet into the hillside, find the tank lid and install an access pipe - something which I'm assuming will cost a great deal of money. I respond and ask why on earth they didn't include this absolutely crucial piece of information in the original report recommendations and they say they must have missed it. Well now I'm stuck with a house I never would have purchased had I known this, and an inaccessible septic! Absolutely stunned. read more

This really is as good as it gets!!! I have wasted thousands of dollars dodging what really needed to happen for our company to have no more plumbing problems. I was told it wasn't going to work if I had a company like Gopher come in and tie us into the city but I decided to just call anyway and started getting quotes... My existing plumber was telling me it would cost about $30k more than what it actually costs me to get what was needed done. I met with Chad and definitely felt like it was the right thing to do to hire him and get us connected to the city sewer line and unhooked from two neighboring properties but I was scared I would have surprise costs and it would take a longer and be a bigger ordeal than he described... Two days later... I am soooo happy I dealt with Chad at Gopher Construction!!! They were very attentive and sent Mike the following day to do the inspection. He was on top of everything. He was very clear about what our septic system looked like, he had his charts of the sewage system of the whole street the house is on, and he showed us with diagrams how our septic system works. Basically, he went beyond and above. Most of all, he was honest and told us that the house doesn't need any major septic work but just regular maintenance every two-three years. He was invaluable in giving us pointers in dealing with city and county health and building departments when we considered renovation work at our house. We first spoke with Gopher when we were considering buying a house that they serviced. At the time, they spent 45 minutes on the phone with us detailing some of the basics of septic systems and answering questions. I felt they really wanted to help and impart their knowledge vs. just wanting to get us off the phone, which you might expect. This is one of the best companies I have ever worked with. My wife and I just bought a house. Gopher installed the sewer line and got us off the septic tank. Soon there after there starting being some issues within the house hold plumbing. We thought there was a possible issue with the sewer line that we just had installed. Gopher dispatched one of their guys and he had excellent customer service and really went the extra mile to make sure and verify that it wasn't their line. His professionalism and knowledge of the situation really helped point my wife and I in the right direction to solve our new problem. About 20 years ago they worked on filling the septic tanks and adding our home to the main sewage line. The final completed permit was never done. I found out only now as we began a Remodel of our home and we couldn't pull our final permit to get our job started because this was an outstanding incomplete permit. Gopher claimed the county must have lost the paperwork. Easy answer but they had no back up to support the fact that they had indeed filed for this final permit. They now, twenty years later, charged us nearly $3,000 to complete the final inspection and refused to accept any responsibility or that they might have messed up. They insisted they never make mistakes. A company in business for more than 20 years never making a mistake... sure that sounds right. I do not think they behaved ethically or responsibly. So if you work with them, make sure the final inspection is completed correctly and get verification of the fact! read more
