I took my 2018 Dodge Durango to Yates Car Wash Detail Center on April 13th to have it cleaned…read morebefore trading it in toward the purchase of a new vehicle. Unfortunately, what should have been a routine $42 car wash turned into a very disappointing and costly experience. After the wash was completed, a supervisor, Marvin Cornejo, brought me over to my vehicle and informed me that they could not get the driver-side window to roll back up. There were also clear signs that the driver-side power window switch had been pried on in an apparent attempt to get the window working again. Prior to bringing my vehicle to Yates, I had never experienced any issues with the windows or electrical system. To their credit, the staff apologized at the time, took photographs of the damage, and completed an incident report. I was told that the owner would be contacting me to discuss the damage and how the situation would be handled. It has now been a week, and I have received no follow-up whatsoever. Because I was trading the Durango in that same day, the damage directly affected the condition of the vehicle and resulted in a $500 reduction in my trade-in value. So, in the end, a $42 wash plus the $5 tip I gave the staff cost me an additional $500. The wash itself was fine, and I understand that accidents can happen. What I find unacceptable is the lack of accountability and follow-through afterward. If your business damages a customer's vehicle, documents the incident, and tells the customer that the owner will contact them, following through should be the bare minimum. Receiving no communication at all only adds insult to injury. I purchased my new vehicle later that same day, and based on this experience, I will not be bringing it to Yates Car Wash Detail Center. Unfortunately, I also cannot recommend Yates to others. Accidents happen. How a business responds when they happen says far more about the business than the accident itself. In this case, the lack of communication and accountability has been extremely disappointing.

Mind you, I held on to my last mechanic till they relocated from its original NW DC location. I was skeptical when I switched. Wahid's team did well enough for oil changes and the like. Sure. What earned my loyalty was his conduct after I got into my first car crash. I'm generally short and to the point in business interactions due to my tight schedule. When I explained the condition of the car and the work needed, the first words out of his mouth were "yes but are you okay?" And when my engine misfired, he laughed and recounted the recency of my last visit. You come to Capital Auto Care not because the prices are fair, the work is superior, and the service is great. You come because they have all of those qualities in addition to genuine concern for their clients. Wahid endures my onslaught of auto questions. He remembers my facepalm worthy stories. I had an appointment that I needed to get to and I was afraid I was going to have to cancel. Being that it was a Sunday, I wasn't sure who was open and who wouldn't be. I noticed that Automotive Express Used and New Tires was open and did tire repair so I thought why not check it out. I pulled up and was immediately greeted by a worker. He looked at the tire and said they could plug the hole for $20 or do an internal patch for $30. He recommended the patch, which I agreed with. I was in and out in 15 minutes even though the place was busy with several customers coming and going.
