Went for restaurant week (2024) Great ambiance. Service was very slow. They had consistent flow but weren't busy so that was disappointing. Drinks-I had the expresso martini with tequila finish. All I wanted was a good burger, and this place did not disappoint. Wandered in during restaurant week and jumped on the 3 course menu, choosing mussels, the Goody Boy Burger and peach cobbler. Washed it all down with 3 Floyds Zombiedust. All the food was excellent! Mussels came with plenty of broth and Texas toast to mop it up with. The burger was exactly what I wanted. Cheesy, greasy, delicious. Came with a side of fries I wasn't expecting. And good thing, as they weren't that good. Thinly sliced, which is my go to, but undercooked. The peach cobbler came with a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream that made me want to make love to the dish. Daughter ordered the fried pickles (delicious) and blackened chicken linguine. The dish was excellent, with just the right amount of heat that made me happy, but she thought was over the top. The Biegnets were good, but more like big hushpuppies with a couple of dipping sauces. Service was fast and friendly. Ambiance was classic 50s, really neat. Only negative, outside of the fries, were the flies. We had a couple join us for dinner that really weren't welcomed. A friend and I were looking for a lunch spot and this place seemed alright. It was pretty empty but the decorations were After sitting down and getting the menu and water, I realized there was something gross in my water (no clue what it was but was really off-putting), I got the fish tacos since they looked great on the reviews and my friend got the grilled cheese. There was minimal service with only one person serving and taking orders, which was not ideal. We were not even given napkins or ketchup and had to take them from another table and the bar. Once our food came out it looked nothing like the previous reviews (which I later found out are from 4+ years ago), and was not great. Fairly disappointed with my experience here. read more

I really enjoyed my time at Goody Boy in Short North. There are just a few parking spaces on the property but if you get there at the right time you can find parking on the street close to the restaurant. There are plenty of places to sit both inside of the restaurant and outside. GB has an indoor/outdoor bar area to sit. Outside, there is a little bar area, tables, and covered cabanas. This place is very dog friendly! Our server, Anthony, was sweet enough to bring our pup out some water in a to-go container so that he was completely comfortable. He gets a little nervous in public so we found a seat underneath one of the private little cabanas. That was really helpful for our anxious pup. He was able to calm down and relax and we all enjoyed our time there. We started off with drinks and apps. The drinks were on point! We ordered the Pear Necessity made with Sauza Blanco, fresh lime juice, orange Curacao, and prickly pear puree. It was refreshing and delicious. The Goodie Bags are cute. The drinks come in a plastic bag with a straw punctured through it like a Capri Sun but these fruity drink pouches are NOT for kids! These pouched drinks have a double shot of liquor with either strawberry lemonade with vodka base or a tropical punch with rum base. Refreshing! We also ordered some Mojitos with its fresh muddled mint, Captain Morgan White, and fresh lime juice. You can add strawberry or mango puree for another dollar. Again, refreshing! The winner for me that day was the Yuzu Collins made with fresh lemon juice, and soda water, Kettle One Botanical peach and orange blossom. Ahhhhhh (head tilted back, eyes closed) For apps, we ordered the buffalo chicken wings with blue cheese dressing, celery, and carrots and an order of waffle fries. Yummy! For the entree, I ordered the Portobello quinoa salad with mixed greens, organic herb quinoa, hummus, roasted red peppers, red onions, avocados, and balsamic dressing. I added salmon for $7. If you are looking for some quick eats and treats and drinks, Short North Goody Boy has got you. I often walk down High Street and it's bright colorful chairs are very hard to miss! They extended patio with the fire pit which in Ohio is super needed! It's a nice touch. Me and my friends went there to have a discussion about life relationships all while enjoying a nice hazy IPA and some delicious fries and burgers. We chose to sit at the bar and you can choose to be seated as well. But they were playing the hits as we were enjoying our burgers. This place is divey and chill and a lot of people come here after work to take the load off. There's not much parking in this area due to all the insane construction in Short North but if you drive a couple blocks in the residential areas you are able to find a couple open spots. So I never came before the recent renovation but I loooove what it is now! Total swim up bar meets in-n-out diner vibes. Interior is fun and beautiful and mid century mod. Ordered the spicy margarita less sweet and loved it. The bartender put less agave in there for me and it was perfect. We tried the goody boy burger, chicken sandwich and fries. Everything was delicious. The goody boy burger has a little bit of a sweetness to it almost in the sauce. The chicken sandwich looks like it might be a little dry on the outside but it is fried so perfectly and so tender on the inside. Side of waffle fries were enough to share. They were a bit crunchy / over fried for my liking but my husband loved them. Just preference I guess. Cute patio. You order everything at the bar and can eat it wherever. Came in on a Monday to try it out. It was slow at the restaurant, so we got to see all of the diner, the restroom was warm and clean... Ordered a quesadilla, tomato bisque and grilled cheese and a buffalo wrap (husband/daughter also) and it was all absolutely delicious... Great place for brunch in the short north! Their menu has everything you could want for brunch and the vibes are so fun. We went when it was warmer out and sat outside. The inside has insanely cute retro vibes. And the atmosphere is so casual. Our waitress was extremely friendly and personable. I would love to go back there on a weekend night to drink and hang out with friends. It seems like it would be so fun. The food was extremely good, it came out fast and hot. The best thing about this place is it was quiet on the Sunday evening. The last time I went there were a ton of people and it was too claustrophobic. This time was a lot better not being smashed in against bodies. They don't have many drink choices. They offer two goody bags of liquor cocktails and beer. Their menu is really simple. We settled on Goody Boy for lunch since the couple we went with had a doggo that they brought along and there is a large outdoor seating area. Luckily, we had no trouble finding a table on the patio. They have some good drink specials, and the menu had a decent array of options. We started off with a sharable half order of the waffle fry nachos, but they were out of waffle fries, so we had to sub them for curly fries -- no big deal, sometimes places run out of things so that's understandable. When they were brought out, everyones eyes at our table got big as we soon realized they actually brought out the regular size and not the half order we requested. We thought no big deal, until the checks came and they charged us for the full order. I ordered the goody boy burger, my significant other got the chicken and waffle bites, and the couple we were with ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and club sandwich. My good boy burger was your typical greasy burger from a place like Steak n' Shake or Johnny Rockets, and the portion of shoestring fries was plentiful. Everyone seemed to have the same opinion on the food -- good, but nothing special. Now on to the disappointing part of the meal -- the service. First off, when the plate of shareable nacho fries was brought out, we were not given small appetizer plates to divvy it up, thus forcing us to use our second hand as sort of a "in case something drops" protector as we shoveled fries into our mouths. Also, each outdoor table has a basket that holds napkins, pre-wrapped plastic silverware, ketchup and mustard. Except ours had no silverware and only one napkin. Neither the waitress or the person who brought out our food seemed to notice, nor did they ask if we needed any silverware. So we had to snag some from a different table. When we finished the meal, our server walked past our table so many times without checking in that we ultimately had to flag her down to ask for to-go boxes and checks. There were also a few other off-putting things that happened that aren't even worth writing about. The hungover college kids running this place were clearly just trying to make it through their Sunday shift. read more

The Short North Goody Boy is real goody . I found myself in the neighborhood during The eat614 Burger and Beer week. I've driven by many times and wanted to stop, and I'm mad I haven't stopped before. The ambiance is a bit nostalgic. A once ice cream counter is now a bar. It's divided into two sections, high tops, low tables and booths. There is a spacious seating area outside with the metal lawn chairs from the 80's that never fall apart. On this particular day, there seemed to be two servers. There was a steady flow of people, but we were never neglected. Our server was very friendly. Being Burger week, we both tried the Goody Boy burger. I'm not a fan of cheese but this cheeseburger was good. Two patties that hung over both sides of that lightly toasted brioche bun. The bbq sauce is really good as well. Actually, it's the best burger I've had in awhile. Goody job. I'll be back. read more

It was so filling, too. The large waffle fries were split between a friend and I, and only $6! They had the best cheese, with jalapeños and some tomatoes. Came here for brunch on a Sunday. We were going to go to a couple of other places, but their kitchens were closed and we needed to sit outside since a friend brought their pup. We sat outside and were greeted by our waitress fairly quickly. Their menu had a lot of options, which was nice. We started off with the waffle fry nachos, but unfortunately they were out of waffle fries, so we were asked if curly fries were an ok substitute. This was completely fine and I actually prefer curly over waffle. We did order the half order, but our waitress brought out the full order. This was a little annoying, but we said it was fine and just kept it. They were really good and had all the right topping and a good ratio of them. I ordered the chicken & waffle bites which came with a side of syrup and Tabasco aioli. The little waffle bites were good and cripsy on the outside while still being fluffy on the inside. The chicken was honestly just kind of gross (lots of weird textures and honestly only ate 2 and threw away the rest). I feel like Tyson chicken nuggets would have even tasted better. Definitely would not order this again. Of note, we were never given silverware or napkins the entire time we were dining and had to go grab some from other tables. My husband and I went here on a Sunday afternoon, just ran across it really, and I'm not mad about it! We sat outside as it was a very nice day. The location is right on high st, so if you want a good people watching spot, this is it! They have retro outdoor furniture to sit on. Some chairs rock, some don't. Even the water cups are retro. They give you a water bottle for the table which I love and is so underrated! My husband had the goody boy burger which looked amazing! The waffles fries were excellent and I had to stop myself from eating all of his fries! I had the portobello and quinoa salad which omg! Probably one of the best salads I've had in a while. Packed with goodies, dressing was great. The best part about this place besides the great service and attention to detail, are the lemonade and vodka bags! This is genius! It's literally what he title says...lemonade and vodka in a bag, with a straw. Tasty, portable, brilliant. They have other flavors and even a special mimosa on for brunch. I went recently for my first indoor experience at Goody Boy. In the nice weather, this place is super fun and still covid compliant. Indoors, there is a retro diner vibe, the tables are decently spaced out and the atmosphere is lively and fun. I will say that if you go on a weekend night, it is veryyyy loud in the center of the restaurant, so just keep that in mind if you are planning on having lots of "important" conversations lol. The drinks were decently priced and they had some creative ones unique to the restaurant. I ordered the veggie pizza to split with a friend and it was pretty standard-- veryyyy cheesy (almost a little too much), but very well priced for a late night snack. read more

Goody Boy is a Short North relic that has been around for decades. Back in the day it had the classic diner setup-- booths along the windows and barstools/kitchen on the other side. Since then it has been completely remodeled twice to my knowledge. Both times have been a major change! The whole layout and vibe were adjusted both times. The first time, it went from a diner to a tavern/bar. Lots of fresh shiny wood, kinda classic bar vibes. I believe there was a center bar in the main room that you could sit around and eat at. They had super good, somewhat greek-oriented food and classic American fare if I remember correctly. I liked this iteration of Goody Boy the best. The most recent renovation has an entirely new feel. The bar is along the windows in both rooms, which is actually a cool setup. There is a trendy greenery wall with a neon sign for the 'gram, and a cool starry-sky-esque light setup on the ceiling in the back room. The bartenders were both super nice and the vibes were chill. The food and drinks were ok. My friend didn't like their house ginger beer, he thought it tasted too much like ginger ale, but was assured that it wasn't. I ordered a special they had at the time which I thought was like a pulled pork sandwich but it ended up being some sort of barbecue-style burger. Not generally into burgers so much so it wasn't completely my thing but I think it was what they intended and someone else would have liked it. My friends chicken sandwich had a lot of breading. So much that he was pulling it off of the sandwich and there was a ton sitting on the plate. The worst part about the experience was this paper bag situation they have going on. It seems like at one point they pivoted to carry-out only during the beginning of Covid, and have since decided to only use disposable packaging. Even when dining in. So you order an appetizer, it comes in a paper bag stapled like a to go order, and then your entree comes out separately the same way, and you eat at the table without a plate. They also use disposable cups when you dine in!! And they give you a new one for each drink. It seems incredibly wasteful to me and it's super awkward. The fries were good though! Definitely resolvable issues. I still have hope for Goody Boy. read more

I remember eating here back in the late 1980s, when I was struggling. My father was friends with owner whom I'm sure gas passed away decades ago. The food was good and cheap! The breakfast was Great and the pei es were amazing!! This restaurant is the only one left, that the greedy , $lick real estate developers didn't bulldoze and destroy!! The neighborhood was entrenched in poverty, crime and illegal drugs back then. But during my tenure at The Ohio State University, I ate here often. So many memories from my youth were entwined with N.High Street and the businesses that I used to support. Sad to see this one if the few places spared by the so-called "Short North" yuppies capitalist!! read more

5 stars during happy hour? Goody Boy is a solid establishment in the Short North. During happy hour, nearly the entire menu is half-off. Boom. Thats what this broke college kid's wallet loves to hear! I went to goody boy on a Thursday. I ordered the buffalo chicken pizza and the rum juice bag. Goody Boy is owned by the same folks that own Forno... Needless to say, the pizza was very good! The cheese melted off the pie and the buffalo sauce gave it the perfect zesty taste. The juice bag was one of the most interesting drinks I have had in CBus. This mixed drink comes in a literal bag with a bendy straw. I can only drink 1 because they are so sweet. But I enjoyed it! The downside? It is $10 (pass). The upside? $5 during happy hour. (I'll have 1). Our server was friendly. Not very attentive for the small amount of people there. But friendly! If you want a fun out-of-the-box dining experience, Goody Boy is worth trying out! PS: they have a beer collaboration with North High called the Goody Boy Ale! Worth checking out. read more

We stopped here after a long day for an early dinner. It wasn't busy. The Atmosphere: Loved the vibe of the place and the huge patio area to sit on. Food: our burger and fries were average, but fit what we needed for the evening. Service: Workers were super friendly. They had forgot our fries, we went back and they apologized and felt very bad. We interacted with three different staff members all were very kind. Bathrooms: Clean Parking: This is in an area that you may need to park further back and walk. I was so happy to see Goody Boy renovated. For the longest time it just sat off high street, collecting dust and not standing out at all... except for the old school diner look. While muted, it definitely showed some character. It's been open for a while now and a friend and I decided to stop by on a Friday night for a few drinks. The place was slightly crowded but nothing out of the ordinary for a Friday evening. We walked up to the bar and we were the only people standing there waiting to get a drink. After about 5 minutes and several different people blatantly ignoring us, we finally said out loud, "are you all bus people or can someone get us a drink?!" At that point, a disheveled gentleman came up and said he could get us whatever we wanted. Their cocktail menu looked colorful and the prices were around ten bucks a drink. Pro tip - They have a happy hour Monday through Friday (3-6PM) and drinks are half off. I ordered a mule for $9 and my friend did just the same. We eventually made our way out to the patio and found a few seats at a make-shift bar area. I definitely loved how many dogs I saw on the patio. The music was also on point. The overall vibe however, was just meh. Very young crowd. A couple of the other patrons were simply just rude and after the crappy service, we decided to cash out and head up High St. for something different. This is one of my favorite spots to take friends when we go out! We stopped by with a bachelorette party this weekend and the service was great. The drinks are really fun (looking at you Adult Caprisun) and strong too. We tried creamsicle shots (only $3 a piece), a mule, and a mojito! Also, we got their waffle fry nachos and jumbo popcorn chicken and it held us over until dinner. Can't beat their outdoor patio seating either. The environment is so upbeat, fun, and inviting. I can't say enough wonderful things about this place. I went on one of the first weekends it opened and have been twice since. The first time, I got the fish tacos and the goody boy burger. I'm genuinely addicted to the fish tacos. The perfectly fried fish, crunchy cabbage, and creamy avocado make these some of the best I've had. The goody boy burger is in my top 5 burgers ever. So juicy and cheesy with amazing flavors, and a double patty?! I could hardly finish it. The inside has super fun decor that I'd describe as diner meets trendy. The huge patio is dog friendly, which is a plus in my book. Prices are super reasonable during regular hours, but everything (with the exception of entrees) is half off at happy hour. I went during happy hour and sat outside with 9 friends on my birthday. They were super accommodating to our large party, and brought free jell-o shots for the table Definitely one of the up and coming places in short north, and for all the right reasons. read more

Met with a friend here for happy hour after work. I wanted to check it out because I've been hearing a lot of great things about it lately. I'm not sure where its resurgence came from because I use to walk by Goody Boy all the time & never once heard how good it was. The reviews were always "bleh" which is another way of saying not worthy. I got here around 5pm & went to sit straight at the bar. The bartenders were extremely nice, attentive & answered all my questions very well in regards to the menu. They have great happy hour specials where EVERYTHING on the menu except for entrees is 50% off from 3-6pm Mon-Fri. You really can't beat that. I ordered some buffalo chicken wings & the New York Sour as I waited for my meal. The only somewhat negative thing I can say about my experience was in regards to the wings. The texture was very dry & stringy. Don't get me wrong, I still ate half of it & took some home but it certainly wasn't close to the best wings I've had in Columbus. Aside from that, the struggle to find parking around the area was the biggest factor that I disliked the most. Their parking lot can only fit like 6 cars at best so after driving around a couple times around the block. I ended up paying $6 to park on the street for 2hrs which is something to consider for sure unless you want to park a few blocks away & walk. But then again, this is Short North so that struggle comes with it. Bottom line is I really did enjoy my experience here overall & I want to try more stuff from that menu. read more

The new owners (who also own Forno, Pint House, SN Food Hall) really went all in to turn this spot into something you imagine it would have been in its heyday. The interior has been refreshed and is certainly fashioned as a diner. There are a couple dining areas split by the kitchen and bar. Comfortable old-school diner seats as well. Things look super fresh and very clean. The vibe is more old-school Short North, with an eclectic mix of electronic and pop playing in the background and TV on over the bar - yes, it is a bit loud in here. ANYWAY. we had great service on our Sunday afternoon trip, greeted, seated, and given drink/menu suggestions right off. It seems like they have worked to resolve their service issues. Their drink selection is a bit of a soda-fountain theme, and also includes boozy "drink pouches." I mean, full bar - go wild. I ordered the portobello sandwich, which comes on a multi-grain bun with lots of veggies. Super tasty. Their waffle fries? No joke! Lots of them, with plenty of waffle-fry salt. (Our server recommended the waffle-fry nachos, which sounded awesome, even more so now that I know the fries will stand the test of nacho cheese.) The spouse had their meatloaf, a classic and well-done. Our other diner had the Goody Boy burger and waffle fries. You do get to pick what comes on your burger, and it was a solid offering. This review is for the service. We came here today. The restaurant was busy at all. We immediately sat down with menus. No one came to greet us or say that they'd be right with us. We sat for almost 15 minutes without any acknowledgment from the staff. We were never offered any waters and no one attempted to take our orders. It was actually really bizarre. Eventually we got up and left. From where we were seated the staff could see us leaving. Again, no one acknowledged our presence.
