Tri-tip sandwich

Stopped on the way to the railroad museum and so glad we did! Everyone was very friendly, the store is super cute, and the made-to-order sandwiches are delicious! I had the tri-tip. Highly recommend.

Bathrooms are outside.

Goodwin's General Store is generally awesome! Haha I know cheesey, but it really is. So, I love stopping here before we head over to Frenchman Lake because they have just really done a great job renovating the place. They have a really nice lunch menu. The chicken tenders and tri-tip sandwiches are very tasty. We got some chocolate fudge with it because that's how we roll. The staff there are very nice and friendly. They have a nice seating area in the back, with a coffee shop. Very nice area to hangout. They have a little fire place there, plenty of seating, and they have a small grocery store. They also have a pump station for fuel. This place really has it all. Oh, small tip they have a great meat selection too. I usually but some steaks before I go camping. It is fantastic! They have a fish section as well and you can buy most of your fishing items needed here. I remember before they renovated it was a bit cramp in here but you really have to stop by and see what they have done with the place. It is pretty awesome. Bathrooms are outside, so you will have to ask for the key. Parking can get a bit messy because they have a small parking area but for the most part you will usually find parking because most people are just in and out of the store. I would recommend if you fueling up done leave your vehicle there because there are only 2 pumps. So, don't be that person to block the only 2 pumps. Other than that this store is a great stop before our after your little adventure to Frenchman Lake or even a respite from the road. Thanks for reading my review.

I love everything about this store! The staff is friendly every time I go! I always feel so welcome! They have the cutest sitting area to enjoy coffee with a friend! Their homemade fudge, tritip sandwich and coffees are all so delicious!!! I stop here every time I go to Frenchman's! I love this place!

I sat in the corner of the coffee + dessert parlor, about to start my Zoom Meeting (details spray painted over to protect the Innocent...

What a delightful oasis this turned out to be on a warm July afternoon of 2020... We received a referral from a reliable source in Beckworth (village to the west} that Goodwin's was a great place for a local lunch break... Sure enough, our group of 5 adults descended on this true "oasis" at 12:30 PM and we all had custom made sandwiches, soft drinks, and homemade sweets as we sat down and socially distanced at two outdoor picnic tables in the shade within 20 minutes... Everyone making sandwiches to staff in the coffee & dessert parlor were ALL wearing face coverings and treated us with kindness! After my colleagues finished their lunches and we said our goodbyes, I stayed behind for another refreshment and sat inside to convene a previously scheduled business Zoom meeting with my accountant. The General Store/ Coffee Shop WiFi worked great and despite the busy afternoon, the noise level was never a problem as they continued to wipe down tables and entertained tourists, local families to highway workers on break.

Medium iced latte to go!

I made Beef Wellington at home for the first time and the tenderloin at Blue Ribbon was delicious at a decent price. There are also different selections of rub spices and some produce so you don't need to go to the grocery store for 1 or 2 things. The staff are always welcoming and quick to assist anyone for a selection or answer questions. I've become a reoccurring buyer and urge everyone to check out this local butcher shop!

I called around and the guy that answered the phone was really polite and nice and said that he had plenty. When I arrived, I was greeted nicely told the guy what I needed, and he showed me the case that had the pork bellies with skin on . As I was looking through these, he went in the back and grabbed a whole pork belly. He wasn't sure what size I needed. The skin on pork belly was about $5.50 a pound. This is the best price I could find at any butcher shop. Some of the other butcher shops that are well known for twice the price. I picked the size close enough to my pork loin and then looking around bought some cheddar bratwurst . Good price, friendly service, convenient location definitely I will come back

Crosby Cattle Company - Shishkabobs with a tougher cut. Amazing and so damn delicious

Crosby Cattle Company

Alec Crosby was recommended to me by my favorite butcher, George, when I reached out interested in…read morebuying a share of beef in February. Alec raises his cattle in Fernley so super local, the cows are happy cows not trucked to feedlots at the end of their life cycle. They have good lives, these are the things that I appreciate as a meat eater. And yes I do know all beef is finished on grain, but there's a difference in mixing grass and grain in fields etc. I ordered through his website, super easy. I got a 1/4 of beef, after trimming and cutting, I ended up with around 110 lbs of beef. The percentages of certain types of meat described on his website, ended up being spot on for me. Yes, I wrote down every package, weighed them and created a spreadsheet haha. The packages came wrapped in saran wrap then butcher paper with a stamp of the type of cut. I like knowing what the weight is so a print out sticker with that would be preferred personally in the future, but I just wrote the weight on each package. I kept in touch with Alec and he was very adamant about quality and my happiness He said if it wasn't anything less than amazing, he'd get me a new one. I have the messages for proof, but to be honest, even if I wasn't 100% happy, I could never do that to a small business over possibly small qualms. He cheered me on when I sent him some pics of my first meals with the meat I got from him. He is a young guy, expanding his long run, multi generational family business. On Facebook he showed that he was opening up a store front and I couldn't be more excited for him and for Reno. This is a dream basically, to have local sources of meat, in affordable prices. And I appreciate his ability to take a chance and try to bring back some of the good things from older genertions like neighborhood butcher shops. I suggest giving him a try when you need a butcher or want a beef share for the family if you have the room. It ends up being incredibly worth it cost wise in the long run even though it can be intimidating for an upfront cost. In the end, we have been going through our beef pretty slow, I still have around 50% of it left, and haven't bought beef at a store since February. I've eaten some new meals, cooked cuts in new ways and learned to like hamburger again (because this stuff is tasty and not close to store bought). I haven't had any bad cuts, and I feel so good eating this beef, supporting local business and new generations.

The butcher called on the date given and was very helpful in guiding me with what I wanted the most. Keighley, who was handling the delivery contacted me the same day to secure the delivery day and time which was 01/01/24 at 4:00. She reverified the day before delivery to confirm all was still good and delivered on time. I was so impressed with how professional, friendly and dialed in the entire team was. Great communication!!! I can't say enough good things about this company and I will continue to use them and let others know about how great they are. Going to try the Korean Ribs tonight.

GirlFarm - Part of the farm family after a long day of planting garlic.

The work they do is…read moretireless, continuous, and exhausting, yet each day, they wake up with a big ol' smile on their faces excited and ready to face the challenges of providing their community with delicious, nutritious, and humanely raised food to eat! I'll never forget my first visit to Girlfarm! Coming up the drive we were greeted by a herd of very interesting looking sheep, seemingly stampeding toward us, which stopped us in our tracks. From the ominous trail of dust that followed them you could hear commands helping Frankie Fly guide the herd down the trail and into the pasture. Eventually we saw the red quad and the "Wee Farmer", Wendy Baroli, sitting proudly atop it, who quickly jumped down to greet and welcome us to her slice of heaven. Wendy Baroli is one of the amazing people in our local community working hard to provide us all with something a little better. If you haven't met her, you need to! If I had to sum her up in just a few words they'd be tenacious, dedicated, passionate, and ferocious (in a good way!). At Girlfarm, her mission is to introduce our local food community to those heritage breeds and heirloom varieties that offer up the greatest flavor, which sadly have fallen out of sight as a result of more easily produced food and imports. If that isn't cool enough, the best part is she wants to share her knowledge and the experience of producing it with everyone as well. Through the Girlfarm Farm Family program, everyone is invited to be a part of raising some of the animals and crops grown on the farm. From planting to harvesting, you're able to be a part of it all. I can't think of a better way to connect with your food than this. It's very easy to pick up a plastic wrapped package at the store and bring it home, but there's a whole other level of satisfaction you get when you get to consume something you helped to produce. Farm families are invited to help process chickens and turkeys, as well as enjoy some of the produce from the farm, all with the help of Wendy and her partner Jill. The farm is nestled in beautiful country right beneath the hills at the NV/CA border. Wendy has several acres where she raises beef, pork, lamb, chicken, and turkey, along with produce including brussels sprouts, peppers, strawberries, and more! And best of all, she's constantly planning, plotting and dreaming about the next great thing she'll be planting and how she's going to bring it to market for us all to enjoy. If you want to learn more about this amazing operation, the happenings of the farm, arrange a tour, or sign up as a Farm Family, check them out on Facebook or their website!
