Cinnamon roll

5 stars for this ma and pa store. They had everything from camping gear to candles and gifts to fruits and veggies and selection of meats to general grocery items. They had a coffee bar and bakery as well. A cinnamon roll caught my eye and upon asking the clerk the price she said it was 5.99. It looked amazing and she said it was freshly made today. I was not impressed. The cinnamon roll was hard and dry on the inside. I feel like I was misled. Nothing was marked with dates on the package so I took her word. Just because it appears to look really delicious doesn't mean it is. 3 stars on the cinnamon roll. I make them homemade often and no way was it made that day. SMH. The store it self is very clean and the staff was super kind and welcoming.

Stopped on the way to the railroad museum and so glad we did! Everyone was very friendly, the store is super cute, and the made-to-order sandwiches are delicious! I had the tri-tip. Highly recommend.

Goodwin's General Store is generally awesome! Haha I know cheesey, but it really is. So, I love stopping here before we head over to Frenchman Lake because they have just really done a great job renovating the place. They have a really nice lunch menu. The chicken tenders and tri-tip sandwiches are very tasty. We got some chocolate fudge with it because that's how we roll. The staff there are very nice and friendly. They have a nice seating area in the back, with a coffee shop. Very nice area to hangout. They have a little fire place there, plenty of seating, and they have a small grocery store. They also have a pump station for fuel. This place really has it all. Oh, small tip they have a great meat selection too. I usually but some steaks before I go camping. It is fantastic! They have a fish section as well and you can buy most of your fishing items needed here. I remember before they renovated it was a bit cramp in here but you really have to stop by and see what they have done with the place. It is pretty awesome. Bathrooms are outside, so you will have to ask for the key. Parking can get a bit messy because they have a small parking area but for the most part you will usually find parking because most people are just in and out of the store. I would recommend if you fueling up done leave your vehicle there because there are only 2 pumps. So, don't be that person to block the only 2 pumps. Other than that this store is a great stop before our after your little adventure to Frenchman Lake or even a respite from the road. Thanks for reading my review.

I love everything about this store! The staff is friendly every time I go! I always feel so welcome! They have the cutest sitting area to enjoy coffee with a friend! Their homemade fudge, tritip sandwich and coffees are all so delicious!!! I stop here every time I go to Frenchman's! I love this place!

What a delightful oasis this turned out to be on a warm July afternoon of 2020... We received a referral from a reliable source in Beckworth (village to the west} that Goodwin's was a great place for a local lunch break... Sure enough, our group of 5 adults descended on this true "oasis" at 12:30 PM and we all had custom made sandwiches, soft drinks, and homemade sweets as we sat down and socially distanced at two outdoor picnic tables in the shade within 20 minutes... Everyone making sandwiches to staff in the coffee & dessert parlor were ALL wearing face coverings and treated us with kindness! After my colleagues finished their lunches and we said our goodbyes, I stayed behind for another refreshment and sat inside to convene a previously scheduled business Zoom meeting with my accountant. The General Store/ Coffee Shop WiFi worked great and despite the busy afternoon, the noise level was never a problem as they continued to wipe down tables and entertained tourists, local families to highway workers on break.

Medium iced latte to go!

We will most definitely be back. The burger in particular was what impressed us both. The quality of the meat was impeccable, delicious flavor, with a nice crispy sear. He let me sneak a bite, and the patty just melts in your mouth. I have no complaints or changes I would make to the burger. The service was so friendly and fast! They were very helpful in choosing what to order! The bison comes from their ranch in Wyoming, the owners brother runs the ranch! The elk comes from a group of family farms they have been doing business with for over 40 years in New Zealand. (Wow!) And the in house ground beef is mostly Niman ranch and Creekstone farms. I don't think you will find a better burger in Reno! We sat inside on their bar stool seating, but there's lots of other seating available outside! The inside has a very modern and elegant feel! Regrettably I ate the food way too fast, so I did not get any pictures!! But I will be back with updates.

Truly- the quality of the food here can't be beat. Freshly ground meat, selection between beef, elk, and bison, and high-quality ingredients all the way down to the produce. Sometimes a thick, juicy burger is just what you want. You won't find a puny smashed patty here. Only delicious, perfectly cooked, thick patties. The extra $6 to make it a double is totally worth it. I was even impressed by the fries! Super crispy and well seasoned. The chicken tenders were not overcooked, as you find at many places. The chicken was still very moist while maintaining a crispy exterior. Great choice for your butchery needs, but also a great place to grab some very tasty lunch!

If you're a die hard carnivore (like myself) and happen to be a local or a visitor from out of town…read moreand are in the greater Reno-Sparks metropolitan area, do yourself and make a stop to "Blue Ribbon Meat & Butcher Shop". Established in 1946 during the post-WWII/baby boomer era, this wildly popular butcher shop is one of the top picks for quality meats in Northern Nevada. Located directly on Prater Way and adjacent to 15th Ave in Sparks, they are nestled in between a 7-11 and Scoopers Drive-In. Parking is quite easy to find as they have a dedicated lot directly outside of the business. Furthermore, they have a very cool mural that showcases a pig, chicken, and cow which are all the types of meats this place sells. I came here during the afternoon on Saturday 6/20/2026 at around 4:15pm. Keep in mind that they are closed for business on Sunday/Monday but are open Tuesday through Saturday from 9am-6pm. Upon entry, there were quite a few customers but just about everyone was being serviced in a timely manner. Before we get to the meat, this place has a ton of seasonings, dry rubs, marinades, sauces, and a small amount of produce. Additionally, they also have a pre-packaged refrigerated & freezer section where you can purchase quantities of their meats/seafood as well as cold cuts and bottled beverages. However, the real winner is there display case as they offer a ton of beef items. This includes short ribs, chuck wagon, carne asada, tri-tip, and all very popular steaks. They carry a nice variety of pork, lamb, elk, venison, chicken, liver, veal, bacon, and sausage. Since I came prepared with an Igloo cooler (and still had a 2-hour drive home), I purchased their sirloin steak, ribeye steak, bacon burgers, and Hawaiian sausage links. Since I already cooked the sausage (the following day) for breakfast and sirloin steak for dinner, I will say that this place absolutely hits the spot and is arguably much better than Safeway, Raley's, & Save Mart. There's a reason why "Blue Ribbon Meat & Butcher Shop" has been around since the mid-1940s and that's because they are a quality old school butcher shop with very competitive prices (even with the huge price hikes in beef), excellent customer service, and delicious mouth-watering meats. The gentleman that helped me was very polite while their inventory display case was filled to capacity; even during the late afternoon on a Saturday. So if you're into family owned-and-operated butchers shops like myself, you can't go wrong checking this place out. With that said and done, I am giving this place a perfect five stars.

I made Beef Wellington at home for the first time and the tenderloin at Blue Ribbon was delicious at a decent price. There are also different selections of rub spices and some produce so you don't need to go to the grocery store for 1 or 2 things. The staff are always welcoming and quick to assist anyone for a selection or answer questions. I've become a reoccurring buyer and urge everyone to check out this local butcher shop!

Alec raises his cattle in Fernley so super local, the cows are happy cows not trucked to feedlots at the end of their life cycle. They have good lives, these are the things that I appreciate as a meat eater. And yes I do know all beef is finished on grain, but there's a difference in mixing grass and grain in fields etc. I ordered through his website, super easy. I got a 1/4 of beef, after trimming and cutting, I ended up with around 110 lbs of beef. The percentages of certain types of meat described on his website, ended up being spot on for me. Yes, I wrote down every package, weighed them and created a spreadsheet haha. The packages came wrapped in saran wrap then butcher paper with a stamp of the type of cut. I like knowing what the weight is so a print out sticker with that would be preferred personally in the future, but I just wrote the weight on each package. I kept in touch with Alec and he was very adamant about quality and my happiness He said if it wasn't anything less than amazing, he'd get me a new one. I have the messages for proof, but to be honest, even if I wasn't 100% happy, I could never do that to a small business over possibly small qualms. He cheered me on when I sent him some pics of my first meals with the meat I got from him. He is a young guy, expanding his long run, multi generational family business. On Facebook he showed that he was opening up a store front and I couldn't be more excited for him and for Reno. This is a dream basically, to have local sources of meat, in affordable prices. And I appreciate his ability to take a chance and try to bring back some of the good things from older genertions like neighborhood butcher shops. I suggest giving him a try when you need a butcher or want a beef share for the family if you have the room. It ends up being incredibly worth it cost wise in the long run even though it can be intimidating for an upfront cost. In the end, we have been going through our beef pretty slow, I still have around 50% of it left, and haven't bought beef at a store since February. I've eaten some new meals, cooked cuts in new ways and learned to like hamburger again (because this stuff is tasty and not close to store bought). I haven't had any bad cuts, and I feel so good eating this beef, supporting local business and new generations.

I'll never forget my first visit to Girlfarm! Coming up the drive we were greeted by a herd of very interesting looking sheep, seemingly stampeding toward us, which stopped us in our tracks. From the ominous trail of dust that followed them you could hear commands helping Frankie Fly guide the herd down the trail and into the pasture. Eventually we saw the red quad and the "Wee Farmer", Wendy Baroli, sitting proudly atop it, who quickly jumped down to greet and welcome us to her slice of heaven. Wendy Baroli is one of the amazing people in our local community working hard to provide us all with something a little better. If you haven't met her, you need to! If I had to sum her up in just a few words they'd be tenacious, dedicated, passionate, and ferocious (in a good way!). At Girlfarm, her mission is to introduce our local food community to those heritage breeds and heirloom varieties that offer up the greatest flavor, which sadly have fallen out of sight as a result of more easily produced food and imports. If that isn't cool enough, the best part is she wants to share her knowledge and the experience of producing it with everyone as well. Through the Girlfarm Farm Family program, everyone is invited to be a part of raising some of the animals and crops grown on the farm. From planting to harvesting, you're able to be a part of it all. I can't think of a better way to connect with your food than this. It's very easy to pick up a plastic wrapped package at the store and bring it home, but there's a whole other level of satisfaction you get when you get to consume something you helped to produce. Farm families are invited to help process chickens and turkeys, as well as enjoy some of the produce from the farm, all with the help of Wendy and her partner Jill. The farm is nestled in beautiful country right beneath the hills at the NV/CA border. Wendy has several acres where she raises beef, pork, lamb, chicken, and turkey, along with produce including brussels sprouts, peppers, strawberries, and more! And best of all, she's constantly planning, plotting and dreaming about the next great thing she'll be planting and how she's going to bring it to market for us all to enjoy.
