The only Goodwill store that I've ever been to was in downtown SF. In need for a nightstand, I decided to hit some thrift stores, such as Salvation Army & Goodwill! No luck, but this location is easily missed, on the corner of West Market St & Mission St. There isn't much parking on the streets, but you can probably park at the Walgreens parking lot next door. The shop itself is small and cramped, but does offer a good variety of things for a good price. Even though I was looking for some nightstands, I stumbled upon some Johnson Brothers Blue China's for $2 a plate and 99 cents a bowl - all in still good condition! (Funny, cause I used it last night at a friends house for a Friendsgiving dinner.) They also had some Japanese Fine China for the same price, but with a few scratches on the plate from being used. They also sell a lot of boxed Target/Threshold furniture in the back corner, clothes, bags, and much more. Definitely a place worth checking out if you're in the area and bored. The staff is normally walking around and organizing the store. read more

The Filipina manager at this place can be called swappang. She likes to rip the tag prices attach to the clothes and other stuff in half so she can increase the prices when asked for a price check . She's been known to be very rude. She has been seen multiple times by customers doing the same. Unprofessional. read more

Pro: staff seemed nice. somewhat organized. Con: - overpriced- wine glasses $2 each...for USED wine glasses? the Goodwill in Sac area sells for anywhere from $0.50 to $1 for most. A dress w/ new tag for $40 was selling for $20 even though it had a small stain on it. - small selection (not surprising it's in SF) - lots of items not priced, such as photo frames. When I asked a staff she said take it up front... We did buy 2 items- 1 wine decanter for $2 because they priced it as a vase, an unopened Sushi Go game for $5 that I might give to a friend. read more

I don't know what's going on at Goodwill these days, the stores I visit all are all upside down, they've taken out a lot of merchandise, and they have cut a lot of stuff on display. They used to have a lot to choose from, but now, there's not too much to buy. The clothes are also all laid out in the opposite direction (looking backwards). I've been in the fashion world for over 30 years and I've noticed that they've laid out clothes in the opposite direction. I talked to one of the managers at the Daly City store and the Fillmore store in San Francisco and they told me that owners sold the Goodwills and that the "new order" came from the company's new directives to put the clothes in that way. At first glance, it's clear that the people who gave that order have no idea how a man's closet works; A man's closet has been conceived in a standard order for many years and has a logical reason for being the way it has been; I let a manager at Fillmore location to know this, and she turned upset with me for making this observation. At Goodwill in Daly City, I told them the same thing and they told me that this mandate came from management and that they, as employees, know clothes are wrongly hung, but they could not change that because they risked of being fired. If the managers see how a man's Closet (Wardrobe) clothes are hung in Macy's, Kohls, Ross, and many other stores just to cite few ones, they will agree with me and other buyers I have been talked with. I imagine that now, with this "new trend" of hanging clothes backwards, stores will be selling less, because people have to look up clothes in the opposite direction and therefore, this is not something pleasant (It's like wear your shoes facing opposite directions). This is one of those trivial changes that when somebody wants to impose as a new order, things fail. I hope top management take notes about this, and put the clothes back in the correct order for the benefit of all ASAP. read more

Worst customer service ever, my child was choosing a toy in the kids section and an old lady came to me saying I have to take care of her, I was next to my daughter watching her, the lady was super rude saying bad stuffs about my daughter and I confronted her, then she leave talking with another customers about us, super rude. read more

We were at the store at closing time and bunch of kids came. After 6 pm the line was still long the cashier and the manager were assisting customers with a smile and friendly attitude. I highly recommend this small but very clean and organized store. I always find good stuff in here too. read more

Came here to donate a bag of clothes because this seemed the closest to my residence and I was down the block having the burrito that day anyways. So I come here for the first time looking for it. The location sucks for those whom had never been here. Ended up parking down the block near 7-11 because I had to park and look for it. Inside their people are really unfriendly. Made the trip to this Goodwill location during a long trip hopping from thrift to thrift stores around the area and came across some awesome deals! We came during the orange tag sale and we were afraid that we came a bit late to the same, but they were still stocking more orange tags even as we walked in. As we continued to score some orange tags, the sales rep handed me a huge bin to store all the clothes we collected. That's a nice plus. Walked away with a bunch of quality clothing for extremely cheap prices and some insight on the next sales for the upcoming future. read more

HORRIBLE!!! I brought five bags with clothes to donate, and these people did not even say thank you! That Josephina woman is HORRIBLE! She can't even speak English. The other younger assistant is so ignorant and rude too! I donated a lot of expensive clothes, including jackets, and tops from Banana Republic, jeans from Armani Exchange. When I told them that, that younger said, "No, your clothes are from Macy's. I saw the bags." Really? How ignorant are you??? If you bothered to open it, you would see. These people make your donation experience TERRIBLE!These people should NOT be working with public. I left here feeling like I needed to sanitize my hands twice..........and I did. I wish they would clean the products they receive from people [e.g. toys, frames, kitchen ware etc]. And if peoples throwaways are that dirty, don't accept them. I understand Goodwill is inexpensive for a reason, but I still wouldn't want to pay five bucks for an old, discolored picture frame or toy. The clothes that are for sale are a tad outdated. I love this location - it's rarely a miss for finding great pieces. They regularly have 50% off deals on certain colored price tags, they seem to get a ton of donations from Target (even lots with the price tags still on the apparel), and they have a plethora of shoes and household items. The staff is pretty nice, they usually just move around the store, speaking in Tagalog to eachother, but are always accomodating when I need to check out or try on garments way over the 3 limit max for the dressing room. The store is very small, but I think that's part of the appeal for me. I get overwhelmed in department stores, and I know this location like the back of my hand. I once found an awesome, never used Swatch overnight bag for $14.99 (original price $59.99 with the tag still intact), some of those cute Target peeptoe booties in all three colors (though I only got Cognac) for $6.99 (original price $34.99), and a ton of Banana Republic pieces. It's awesome what you can find if you actually take the time to look. Parking can be found in the lot where L&L is, and then you can grub on some Hawaiian BBQ after you're done shopping. read more

I scored a Kate Spade handbag at this Goodwill years ago for $7. It had to be a fake for that price, but I cannot tell. Maybe they could not either and felt that was a fair price. Got the best Gap jeans there too, however like any used clothing/thrift store you won't always find something. Parking around the side, a little past Walgreen's. Oh and when you are done, notice your hands feel "coated" try to wash you hands as soon as possible. The pool hall across the street has a restroom. read more

Very small. Takes a good amount of time to browse through the items because they are pretty much living wherever they are initially thrown. The bay area was a lot colder than expected for Outside Lands Music Festival and there is no better way not to fit in at OSL than to wear Goodwill clothes to nights two and three. My girlfriend found a lot of clothes; I contemplated buying an ancient-looking twill jacket but thought better of it. Surely it has found a good home by now. Proximity is one of the main reasons why I am here so often. I don't own a car or drive - I walk EVERYWHERE and since, I live about four blocks away and pass by it on the way to Bart and to pick up my son from school, I can't help but take a quick peak. You won't always find something, but when you do, it's worth the second look. I have found brand new things that have been donated by Target, such as last season's Thakoon clothing, duvets, down comforters, and toiletries. I have bought some of my favorite books (Steve Martin's "Born Standing Up," Man Book Prize Winners, "Vernon God Little," and "Life of Pi.") As well as, great jeans. CK, AE, and, J.Crew. What can I say, I am a Mission Goodwill Junkie. The staff see me as a familiar face and seem to get weirded out sometimes since I am there so often (they don't know about my local advantage) but otherwise, they are all so hardworking and never have been impolite or imposing. I agree with the other previous posts before me, this place is an occasional gold mine! I used to always just pass by this place because I used to extremely hate thrift stores due to a couple of bad experiences. Howeverrrr, this place is great. I can just come here at a random time of the day and find something that I absolutely fall in love with. I was able to get a cute little black dress, and it looks great with other things that I already have in my closet. I got a couple of dress shirts, and sweaters that I normally don't find in department stores. The ultimate find for me was a brown Etienne Aigner bag that looked like a shiny basket but was actually woven leather for only $10!! It was obviously a vintage bag, but was beautiful. All of the things that I was able to buy here were in great condition and were of superb quality. The place isn't very clean, of course since it is a second hand store ( you may want to keep a bottle of hand sanitizer with you once you get out of there!) It is pretty organized by new arrivals, mens, womens, childrens, and home stuff. For a tiny little store, this Goodwill is probably the best out of all that I've been to. It's also great to shop here, because when you spend you create jobs for those in need. Buying second hand also is a way of recycling clothing, which is good for humanity and the environment. I would give this place five stars, but sometimes you come across the occasional old cranky filipino guy, but over all if you're willing to dig and get your hands kind of dirty and don't want to spend a pretty penny, I'd reccomend this place! And altho both times I've gone, I have found things to buy, the store is smelly and cramped and the help are always busy doing other things and I have to wait longer than I want to in order to make my purchase. I actually like going here! It's pretty cramped when you're going through the racks, but I always end up finding something. And it doesn't smell musty here, unlike some other Goodwills. I found this leather backpack in good condition for $10 and it was also made in Italy (oooh). I also found these cute red flats that looked like they haven't been used at all for $4. Overpriced, poor organization, and the donations are at retail. What is wrong with this picture?

This review relates to service early in 2011 but the recent contrasting experience I had a Salvation Army (SF) has led me to now write a review. I dropped off several bags of used (but clean and in good condition) clothes at this Goodwill. It was difficult to find someone to accept the donation. When they finally acknowledged me, I was told to carry the bags to the back office with no offer to help. This was disappointing as I was parked around the corner and had a fair amount to donate so it required several trips to the car. The woman in the office pulled everything out of the bags and with a look of disdain, seemed to judge every item. They eventually accepted my donation and grudgingly provided a receipt. By comparison, I just dropped off several boxes of clothes at Salvation Army. Based on the experience at Goodwill, I searched for an alternative this time around and I was pleasantly surprised. The people at Salvation Army were very friendly, they helped me carry it from the car, and accepted everything happily. I will use Salvation Army as an alternative to Goodwill in the future. read more

I moved out of my apartment today and I urgently needed somewhere to donate some of my clothes, blankets, and colored pencils because I'm 25 years old and I've thoroughly outgrown the colored pencil phase of my life. I walked in and looked for a donation bins but there were none to be found. I asked the lady that worked there where I could donate my items and she sorta grunted and pointed towards the back. Looked around but I couldn't find anything so I asked the lady again and she became a little annoyed and told me the donation area was behind some grey doors that had an employee only sign on it. Gee thanks lady, why couldn't you have told me that the first time?! Carrying those colored pencils back and forth was quite the workout but I managed to find the donation bins and I put everything in without a hassle. While I was in the store I noticed that they had a large variety of things for sale. Might come back again in the future to check it out. read more

I stop into this Goodwill periodically to see if it's gotten any better. It hasn't. Small, disorganized, and generally meh. Parking is difficult as well. If you're in the area and you have time to kill, why not. But definitely not a store worth making a trip for. read more
