Roots to Wings Barn Market - From the outside

Roots to Wings Barn Market

What a fun place to shop. A friend introduced me to this shopping experience a couple of years ago…read more Early in December they have an open house to welcome Christmas shoppers. Oh what fun. There are all kinds of beverages to enjoy. All kinds of hors d'oeuvres are served. It puts people in a holiday spirit. I always finds something to take home. The stall owners are very helpful. Each stall is so personalized that you can find something special hidden in corners. Discovery is fun. The prices vary. I found a lovely candlestick for $5! Just what I was looking for. Of course I've been back several times. Once I walked in the door and within a minute I saw the exact Christmas tree I was looking for. SOLD. I hope people check out this quirky shop.

Ahhhh...finally some "me" time and I found my happy place at Roots to Wings. The locally-owned…read moreshop, an old barn, is filled with a mix of antiques, artisan objects and decorator items. The clerks welcomed me when I entered and asked if they could help me. They told me about sales in many booths. Most booths were had clearance prices with prices up to 50% off. A friendly old shaggy dog makes its way past customers. The shop is filled with soaps, candles, jewelry and primitive antiques. I searched through every nook and cranny. Each room is creatively decorated. I found a Christmas ornament that I couldn't live without. Actually, I found several, but settled on one. The shop was filled with laughter, as clerks removed ornaments from trees. This made me happy. There is a restroom filled with whimsical antiques. The shop is a little difficult to see from the road, but they had banners out to pull people in. Parking is somewhat limited, but I didn't have trouble finding a spot. Well worth a visit.

I have been a customer before of Simply Chic. One of the reasons I have liked supporting them in…read morethe past, is they are local and smaller than some other stores. It's probably been 8 months or so since I was in last. I went in looking for a good pair of used blue jeans. Wow, I was shocked by the prices. One pair I found was $35 for a pair of used blue jeans. I think I found one pair for under $20. I am sorry, but I am not ok spending that much on used blue jeans. So I passed. I did look in active wear, the prices were a bit better, but not by much. I get that the store is trying to make money. For me, if I am going to pay that much. I will just spring for the new version. $20-$35 dollars for used blue jeans is ridiculous. Like I said, I wanted to support local. At this point I am looking at other options. Online, picking through goodwill, or waiting a bit and saving for brand new. As far as service goes. I can not speak on that. I didn't interact with anyone.

Upscale restore shop similar to a Plato's closet. All items are second hand but in good condition,…read morewith higher than a typical resale store to back it. While their prices are fairly steep, the items are in good condition and you don't need to sort through as many 'older' items to find your desired 'treasures'. Like Plato's, you can bring in clothes to resale. Again, employees are picky about what they buy and what they offer, as that is part of the job. Don't come in expecting to be rich, but maybe think of it more as making something rather than nothing. In my experience, one employee was very friendly while one was standoffish, but like any business, employees come with their own personalities. The store was clean, parking was spacious, and they have dressing rooms available for use!

Outta the Shed - A pair of stained glass accent pieces for $99.

This cute shop is full of farmhouse, primitives, rustic, shabby-chic, and cottage decor items…read morewith vintage jewelry and clothing. If your home is decorated in one of these styles, stop in. I enjoy browsing Outta the Shed in Plainfied because the staff is so friendly, and the items are clean, quality pieces, and booths are restocked often. The shop smells amazing from the moment you walk in. All types of candles and melts are to the left as you enter and throughout the shop. This trip, I was looking for a few new pieces to refresh my home after removing my Christmas decoration and taking back to storage. My home always feels bare and not as cozy after removing the Christmas decor. My main reason for running around in this bitter cold is to add more greenery, maybe some new artwork (looking for botanicals), and maybe some new throw pillows for additional accent colors. The prices are reasonable, so I can afford to replace smaller accent items when I tire of them. I only picked up two new candles and 3 packages of candle melts today, but I took pictures of several items I could use. The items change often, so I need to pop back in soon after they restock with new items. Affordable, unique pieces, collectibles, antiques, linens, cookware, purses, hats, with a dedicated area for current and vintage jewelry and clothing with numerous jeans, and a variety of boots and shoes. If your home is decorated in one of the above-mentioned styles, stop in the shop.

I tried things on in the restroom, however, there aren't any hooks for hanging items and it was very awkward. Over by the clothing it would be nice if there were a full body length mirror instead of the angled mirrors that make it difficult to visualize fully....

Kaye's Antique Barn - Kaye's Antique Barn just steps from Gilley's front door. Park in same lot.

Maybe it was just having left Gilley's that affected my perception of this place. Or maybe it's…read morethe lack of accessibility that this place has that keeps it from getting a higher rating. They have some nice stuff here, including a lot more furniture than I expected. They have more room upstairs for browsing too. But the barn seems small compared to the antique mall next door, so unless there is something here that screams "Buy me!", it's kind of hard to rate it higher. Be aware that this is an old barn and has a raised center aisle to walk on. That means low head clearance for air ducts, so watch out. Also, if you are rubber-necking and not looking down, the step down into the rooms/booths on the first floor is large (maybe a 10" drop!) and it would be easy to stumble if you aren't paying attention. Fortunately, the owner did mark the steps in yellow and write "Step" on the ground, but who looks down when you are surrounded by stuff at eye level? I guess I should have. On the positive side, there were some beautiful furniture pieces and a really cool store counter that had shelves that extend all the way through the counter, having a display window on the outside of the piece. This allowed you to see what was in the drawer as a purchaser. Not sure what you would do with this at home, but it was an ingenious piece of Americana. Review #1959
