This is my first time to the bins. Started off ok wore gloves, cross body handbag.. had my ikea bag because getting a cart is next near to impossible. There are groups of people who are there all day filling multiple carts. They sit around waiting for new stock to be rolled out. There's a click group of people, one being a meathead bully type who tried to shame me because I took a photo while he was looking over my shoulder. Took a picture to show a friend what the bins looked like. He immediately accused me of taking a picture of a specific person, as in making fun of them & proceeded to harass me to get the attention he so craved. I wasn't playing & ignored him as he went on & on so his posse would acknowledge him. Doubt I'll go back w/ his type there. It's dirty & designer brands are sparse. read more

Sometimes you'll find good things such as clothes, furniture, toys, house items and other times you'll find ripped clothes, torn shoes, and or nothing but garbage. Yes! I am definitely a fan! This is the closest I've ever been to what feels like dumpster diving. I've come to this thrift store twice. The first time I was invited and told that I would need gloves. What? I just had to check this place out because it should at least be interesting, needing gloves and all. There are a few things you need to know if you want to find good stuff... Wear Gloves! I can't stress this enough. By the time you are done digging through bins of either random things that look like trash at first or clothes, your gloves will be... how do I put it? Filthy! So imagine what your hands would look like. Plan on having time to spare because it's not a place you can just go in and out with good findings. Please don't be like the whack jobs that gather in the place where the next bin will be rolled to. It not only makes you look like a savage but seriously, get a hold of yourself before you maim someone with your beastly desire to be the first to sift. DIG! People love to just have stuff jump out and grab them but that's not going to happen here. If you are too posh, snooty, think that your sh!t don't stink... don't come here because you will not find squat. Now for my experience. The first time I was not prepared enough. I had gloves but I was also carrying my purse and had to keep adjusting/pulling my shirt because my jeans were really low and my "plumber" kept trying to make it's presence known every time I leaned into a bin to sift. Great jeans but not great for this place. Still I found a bunch of stuff. I left and I had pain on my right shoulder from lifting piles of things to get them out of the way. The second time I went prepared, comfortable shoes, long shirt, comfortable jeans, gloves and NO purse. They sell things by the pound and so that makes it super fun for me because I like certain materials and they don't weigh a thing. I like to buy things for me at thrift stores. My kids might get a thing or two but I have this weird fascination with second hand things so I do it mostly for me. I don't understand low ratings for this place when the minute you walk in you see exactly what is about to happen. If you are not willing to work... don't come here. Another thing... I don't think anything about this place is gross. It's not clean but the only difference between this place and any other thrift store is the manner in which they display their used items. I have found my perfect goodwill! Yay! It is definitely not your typical goodwill with clothing hanging on racks and knickknacks on shelves. Nope!! You have to dig and find the treasures that are hidden in big blue bins that are wheeled out all day long. You have to have a lot of patience to be in a place like this because there are the regulars that line up just to get to the new bins first, it can get chaotic to say the least. Once you get the hang of it and you get over your disgust for such a "dirty" place you will enjoy yourself and don't be surprised if 2 or even 3 hours pass by. You pay by the pound, $1.40 i believe. Though there is a list of things on the wall that they price individually. The reviewers that have to comment on the dirtiness and crowds and kids running around? Hey this place pulls no punches and you see as soon as you walk through the door what your getting into. I have found many nice name brand clothes that have tags on them but you have to dig through piles of stuff to find the goods which i have no problem doing. Brings gloves though, not the latex dish washing gloves bring good gloves. I don't bring my two kids here cause i don't want them getting pushed around by these overzealous people and i sure don't want them getting crazy dirty. Eventually you'll start hearing tired and hungry kids crying in this place cause their selfish no good parents can't rip themselves away from the bins, true story and something that i would never subject my kids to. That is why they stay home with dad while mommy saves money by buying cheap and at the same time getting my therapy on lol. Watch out for sharp things in all bins, i got skewered one time by a nail on a piece of wood. These are the bins though that i have found my kids some nice toys and dolls in, sometimes brand new. Again kids are running all over the place and they leave toys and the ride along things in aisles so watch your step. Sorry. Can't do it. I have driven by this "outlet" several times, thinking what exactly is a Goodwill Outlet? The stuff that the goodwill can't sell? At that point, wouldn't it be trash?? So I decided to check it out. This Goodwill is in what seems to be warehouse type building, very large. Everything is in bins, everything. Everything but clothing has a marked price. 3.5 Stars. The location is alittle tricky. It is right off of I-80 snd Madison AVE. Date AVE comes up very quickly on your left if you are coming from the Freeway. The Outlet is behind Future Ford and Crowne Plaza Hotel. It is newer,bigger, and cleaner than the Goodwill Outlet in South Sac on Franklin. They provide shopping carts but often they are all taken so you are allowed to bring in your own shopping cart or bag. A couple of older russian ladies did and it was smart. About 20% of the people wear gloves ( either gardening gloves,work gloves, plastic food service gloves and even dishwashing gloves) It's a good idea. I did run into some clothes that felt damp or wet. The clothes did not smell for the most part but you could tell some clothes were soiled. Wash all clothes before wearing. Although I did see some women trying on jackets. There was a group of 5 customers who worked together to quickly grab clothing as they are freshly wheeled out from the back storage area. I would NOT call them hostile in their aggressiveness. They are there to get the goods first. They are polite but do not hesitate to move in ahead of you. I would not call it cutting you off, though. They basically are fair. I did not experience pushing and shoving but a lady there felt intimidated where the group of 5 quickly swarmed the bins. The basic strategy is to quickly pick an item that remotely looks interesting. Throw it in your cart. After the swarming has died down, then re-visit your picks and if they are'nt exactly what you were hoping for, then throw it back. That's what the "pros" do. Rookies like me waste time by checking the size on the spot and looking for oblivious blems. Don't waste time doing that. I was there for about 2 to 3 hours. I think that is typical. I scored 2 hoodies, 1 jacket, 3 T-Shirts and 1 pair of pants. It weighed alittle over 8 pounds and cost me around $11.50. ( $1.39 per pound) Overall, I was happy in the end. The digging is slow going and takes a lot of patience. There are spurts of excitement when the bins are initially rolled out. It's not for everyone but I'll be doing it again. read more

I went to this good will with a mask, but due to a heart condition I cannot cover my nose, as I pass out very easily. They told me I could not enter the store. I explained my medical condition and they said it didn't matter. I advised them that according to the ADA it is against the law to discriminate against people with disabilities and they said they can because it was a private business. Driving by this "Outlet" center on the freeway visions of treasures lost or orange shag carpet danced in my head...only to be dashed upon actually going inside. It is a very large warehouse space but as of right now is filled with snow gear-skis, boots, etc. along with a few (very few) pieces of tired furniture. Perhaps they need to advertise somehow what type of place it is? Is it seasonal? Its obvious its not everything...there were no books, music, regular clothes, etc. Unsure if this will change, but right now its not worth seeing unless you're headed up the hill. read more

This is the last stop for items that either were not up to the standards of the regular retail Goodwill Stores or not purchased over a specified period in the regular retail stores. I usually LOVE going to Goodwill outlets but this one gave me agoraphobia. Literally when I was trying to push a cart inside the store there was a small unattended child blocking the entrance and I had to wait for him to toddle out of my way. There were screaming kids everywhere playing with/riding on/ the toys from the bins and leaving them in the middle of the aisle for you to trip over. This is what I refer to as "natural birth control" as my ovaries shrivel just being in this place....I was actually thinking to myself that I wouldn't be surprised if there are parents that drop their kids here for a few hours and pick them up later...it's so big and chaotic who would notice? It's hella noisy in there, hot as hades and super crowded. Seems pretty picked over unless you get there early and bring a posse with you. I did manage to find a few vintage items, some scarves, a 60s fur hat, 2 anthro skirts (one with stains) and a few other not super exciting blouses..that was after about 2 hours of searching. They sell items by the pound (I believe it's $1.39 a pound). Total damage was under $14 so I can't complain too much but I don't know if it's worth it for me to make the 2 hour drive from my house on a regular basis. read more

I went to drop off some clothes and shoes to the Date Avenue location on May 13th. There were several attendants and one of them did not like the fact that I began sorting my bag in the clothing bin first. She began berating me,stating I should have started in the shoe bin. I reminded her that the shoes were at the bottom of the bag. Clothing was stacked inside the bag on top of the shoes. Apparently she did not like that as she shouted "Do whatever you want!" I decided not to donate the rest of the household items and got in my car. This same attendant followed me and laughingly shouted "Do you want to talk to my manager?" I told her no. This spot is a dumpster divers heaven. BRING GLOVES! This is where all the left overs from all the other Goodwill stores goes for last pick thru before being shredded and sent to the landfills. So be prepaired to hunt and dig thru bins. When they bring out new full bims its like a feeding frenzy. In general most things are by the pound $1.49 per pound. Love Goodwill but had never been into a Goodwill Outlet before so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. It's a huge warehouse with a bunch of bins waiting to be rifled through. The whole time I was there I was trying to figure out if there was a method to the madness or a strategy I should use. I think you basically need patience and time. I only spent about half an hour in the store but I could see how people could spend hours. Next time I'll bring gloves. Be warned: I found a few knives laying in the housewares bins which is to be expected but was still rather unsettling. This place has been a great source for my autistic daughter's wardrobe. She rips about 3 to 4 shirts a day. Buying them new or gently used wasn't doing much for our budget. My first few visits I was able to find about 20 to 25 shirts, a couple pairs of pants, 2 sleeping bags and several bath towels. My sister adores going to the Goodwill bins in North Carolina and always comes home with at least 100 pounds of name brand items, many new with tags. Of course, I knew she had to dig and hunt for the items and I was prepared for that. However, my experience at the Date Ave. in Sacramento was far from that. There is a core group of "bullies" of one particular ethnic group who push others out of the way to get first pick. Very rude. The bottoms of the bins are filled with dirt, crumbs, and who knows what else. It looks like they never vacuum or clean out the bins, just keep stacking stuff on top of the dirt. Yuck! Plus, the name brands are few and far between and didn't see one item "new with tags." I thought the staff was very nice and mostly helpful with the exception of one bin pusher who seemed to be part of the "bully group." I don't know if it is usually this way or it is an anomaly. Just be aware. Someone had mentioned the bathrooms were gross. I found them very clean and in good repair. Will I go back? Well, not to this one. First time visiting "the bins" as they call it. Went mid-afternoon, so there was not much furniture to speak of, other than the uglies that no one would purchase. Yes, it's dirty and you have to dig. A real treasure hunt! I found a few things and paid about $12. After hearing all the stories about how crazy it gets, it all seemed fairly civilized. Don't know that I would go on the regular, but when the mood strikes and you have a couple of hours to spare, why not? I did find a Gucci shoe and a Jimmy Choo, but sadly, the mates could have been anywhere amongst the other 40 or so odd bins. So the designer finds are there, but it's that proverbial needle in the haystack. This is a honey hole for people that collect vinyl LPs. Shoes are not sold by the pound, FYI. $3 per pair. Make sure you relieve yourself before visiting - the bathrooms are disgusting. Cashier was super friendly, not long of a wait to check out. Damn this place is huge and crowded! It's bigger than the other Goodwill Outlet location in Sacramento! You'll need to reserve a few hours here but damn are there diamonds in the rough!!! It cost me less than $1 and I also found a 100% cashmere Cynthia Rowley sweater also $1. I love digging for treasure in this place! It's one of the stores where they bring out the bins and everybody lines up and elbows for position to try to get the "good stuff". You have to really dig, but there are diamonds hiding deep within! And almost everything is purchased by the pound so it is reallllyyyy cheap! But everything else is still insanely cheap. I saw a piano a few weeks ago for $17.99 and another one for $34.99 (apparently that one was "fancy"!). It is a very unusual atmosphere for a Goodwill store. An employee just walked in and exclaimed to two of her co-workers, "don't you mother fu#%ers ever send me to Burger King again!" in the middle of the store and nobody batted an eye. Some helpful tips: It is absolutely filthy so wear gloves, a pair of sturdy tongs are helpful to get the more grotesque stuff out of the way, carts are hard to come by so a big bag is a good idea, and most importantly be prepared to force your way through the throngs of pushy people to get to the good stuff!!! Best. Place. Ever. KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GETTING YOURSELF INTO!! Not only is this not Nordstom, it's not even Goodwill. It's a warehouse filled with STUFF. Do you watch those shows where people buy storage units? It's kinda like that. It smells, it's dirty, you will want to wash your hands several times (fortunately they have a bathroom). All that aside, it's so awesome!! I am SUCH a bargain-hunter, and you have to be. It takes a special person to appreciate this place. But whenever I'm in Sac, you can bet I will be spending hours digging here. I have found so many amazing finds. Sometimes you hit a spot that is obviously one person's entire donation, and if it's your style and size, it's like hitting gold. Last time I hit a woman's donation: she wore between 8-12 and everything was from Ann Taylor, DKNY, INC, and boutiques. I was beyond thrilled. I probably purchased over $1500 of clothing on that trip for $90. We make it a family event with my mom and sister, and honestly it's one of our favorite things to do. Only downside is it ruins you for even Goodwill and Crossroads prices. You literally CANNOT beat $1.39 per pound, unless you come on a 1/2 price today (be prepared to fight!!!!). Needless to say everything goes straight into the washing machine (like, it doesn't even come into the house- STRAIGHT into the wash), but once it comes out it's good as used! I like to pick through the crap and find the gems just like anybody else, but this place?! This place!? I feel yucky as soon as I enter. Nothing is hung up, it's all thrown randomly into big blue bins for people to dig through. And, boy, do they dig! The first time I went I saw people practically jumping on the employees as they pushed out new big blue bins of stuff. The employee was actually yelling "get back" and "wait". If your not a snob this is great. Exactly what it says used stuff that didn't sell. Don't expect Target style clean tidy shelves. Large 8 inch deep tables on wheels piled with goods that have "dumped" into them. Some broke, all dirty, mixed up,tangled. But a lot of really good stuff mixed in. With that said if you have a few minutes then jump into a adventure. Positively wear disposable gloves and maybe a apron if you have somewhere else to go when the adventure is over. Stay away from the starving animals in line for the new bins . Nothing so important at a thrift store that people should fight or grab over...or anywhere for that matter. This place is disgusting inside, and through the years it just keeps getting worse. I always go back every now and than to give it another chance, in the miniscule chance it got even a tiny bit better. I'm at my end and will never shop here again. It's filthy and filled with rude people. I've seen people here use the furniture they are selling to change their babies diapers on, cockroaches in the bathroom, cockroaches in their furniture, wild children running around everywhere. What's even worse than the inside, is the people who literally stay there all day, swarming the bins immediately as they come out for merchandise. Some of them even bring their children, keeping them there all day and just keeping them in the back of the store letting them play with toys. They take all the carts throughout the day, filling it up with their things, and than put a blanket on the top of their carts and push them against the wall. That is why you will never find a cart I don't know if they are all reselling what they find or what, but for the majority of these people it's their job. If they see you getting in their way, they will let you know. This store is literally their "job." I genuinely feel sorry for the majority of these people that shop here, and you will as well when you see the majority of their clientele, especially when you see how these people attack the bins when they first come out in hopes to get something that will re-sell. A lot of these people are more than likely from extreme poverty, drug addicts..ect. This is not a regular thrift store shopping experience. read more

I rarely come to this Goodwill but I had some larger items to donate that were referred to me by another donation station. As I got here she nitpicked what I had it would not accept the furniture because of one little teeny Rip but otherwise in perfect condition and would not help at all unloading any of it off the truck. You would think because I'm giving stuff for a car supposedly and it's free I would get some help. The girls on light duty but working the back. Very disorganized I am very unhappy and although I've shopped at Goodwill for years usually 5 days a week this one will definitely not get my business and I hope the general manager and or circuit manager gets this review and takes it to heart. read more

The bins are so big you can't reach the other side, and it is dangerous, because things just break and they leave them in the bins. A lot of the stuff is not even worth anything, but they just leave them in there, they never clean them out. The one in Fairfield is far superior. read more

I've found brands such as miss me,pink,lane Bryant, and much more. Furniture is dirt cheap. If you don't mind being sore the next day from all the digging, this is the place for you. Ok, so this place is NOT what most think of when you hear Goodwill. It is a donation drop off center, so mind things are still somewhat dirty. I advise leaving your kids at home when coming to this center. When I go there are always people on the intercom telling people to watch their kids, they definitely dont like seeing them make a break for it out the door! This Goodwill is unlike ANY other! I personally like the idea of being able to "first come, first serve" through the clothes. Everything is donated in the back, then dumped into GIANT rolling tubs where they are wheeled into the building. Mind you, people line up and wait for the stuff to be wheeled in front of them. And, the people can be pretty violent. Another thing, its not a very COOL place, and is pretty much a scavenger hunt. You are not going to find anything if you are not willing to search through the JUNK. Keep in mind, it IS a donation center. If you go in with the expectations of a thrift store, you will HIGHLY DISAPOINTED. And if you are in need of cheap, decent clothes or gently used clothes (and a few times brand spankin new), you will definitely want to go in the morning around 9:00-9:30! Dont be discouraged by peoples posts of dirty and wear gloves. This place is not as dirty as people make it seem, but it isnt a store its a building. A big (almost empty) building with no racks of any sort. There are many nice things, like books! OMG the books are simply amazing. I love to buy my son books and just wash them off with warm soapy wash cloth. Many other things (ie- spatchulas, lights, oil burner lamps, toys, dvds, shoes (usually warn), couches, shelves, and things you dont even know WHAT they can be) are found here. If you have a phobia of dirt, wear gloves. Dont take ANYTHING in with you so you can be free to search through stuff. And remember, most holidays are half off EVERYTHING, so a DEAL on top of a deal. This Goodwill donation drop off is off DATE AVE right off of the I-80 freeway and Madison Ave. Just follow the street all the down and it will be there at the end before the curve.
