I spotted this "outlet" warehouse store behind the regular "retail" store a couple of months ago and wondered what was different about it. I decided to check it out. Parking is an issue. The store is very popular and there were not enough spaces available. Some vehicles were parked on the interior roadways near the entrance. I had to park at the far end of the warehouse size building. The inside shopping area is less than half of the total square footage of the building you see from the outside. It is about the same footprint inside of their retail stores. The clothing is not on hangers rather laying in large bin type tables. I didn't see any organization to it such as men's vs women's vs children's so I did not browse the clothing. I looked over the furniture and bicycles. The furniture was in pretty poor condition today but the good stuff may have already been bought. There was a very nice cherry sofa table for $15 however it was broken where a drawer was located. The bicycles were dirt cheap and looked good however most were the 16 inch size so I was not able to "test ride" any of them. I also saw a wheelchair for only $7. Granted it was completely manual but for anyone in need of the basics, that was a really good deal. If you are not familiar with shopping at Goodwill, the way to do it is check into the store regularly as the good stuff goes quickly. You can find some decent items for extremely low prices, but you have to keep checking regularly because the good stuff only lasts for a day or so. read more

The manager, Angel is very rude. I believe she lacks customer service skills. I went through the check, my buggy weighed 8 pounds I went to my vehicle to get my debit card, when I went to pay my buggy weighed 8.8 pounds. I asked if she could honor the 8 pound quote that I was given prior to going to my vehicle to get the debit card. She didn't respond she didn't say anything. She recalibrated the machine and my cart then weighed 9.2 pounds. I was going to get a door handle and a deadbolt. I put the item back in the bens. Goodwill lost four dollars in sales because Of this manager. I hope Angel can provide better customer service in the future. It should be mandatory that the machines are re-calibrated every hour when they do the rotation to avoid this issue. read more

For a person with anxiety, this could be a nightmare! The outlet store is not set up like the usual Goodwill stores. Everything (except furniture) is thrown into giant bins and you just dig through them looking for stuff. Then, upon check out items are rang up by weight. Clothing, households, etc are a certain price per pound. I was in there less than 5 min and had to leave. I LOVE Goodwill, but could not handle that. The store was pretty busy though at 4:30p, so enough people dig it :) I will say it was very clean and there was no wait in line even though the parking lot was full. read more

I always enjoy shopping at Goodwills, and other locations that offer used items at discounted prices and a yard sale is not an option. Like most folks, Goodwill is a name brand and you shop there because they do great things for the community and for disabled people. I was so excited to find out that there was an Outlet store just a few hours away in Indianapolis area, so we decided on our day off, normally used as my day to run errands, to shop and but instead to drive up and check them out. I needed some clothing to clean up and strip down into material for a handmade quilt that I am working on. This was Tony's first experience at a Outlet experience. But, I have to say, nothing like Nashville's and more expensive. They set up the bins differently here. The prices on the pounds is higher and they charge per book instead of pounds...didn't like that! I was not impressed by the workers here, so I literally parked my buggy of items that I intended to purchase and walked out of the store. I drove so far for such a huge disappointment. There are too many thrift shops in the valley that will gladly take my hard earned money. and possibly any donations I might have in the future. The workers here are very unpleasant, and I will NOT BE GOING BACK AGAIN....; people here were very rude. I asked a few questions and their answers were rude. How they're handling things during this outbreak is ridiculous. They make you wait outside in a line for over a half an hour just to say that people can't shop together. God forbid a small family or group of friends are TOGETHER there. No. Every single person has to wait and wait and wait for them to have "enough" carts. On a normal day, I promise you they have upwards of 100 carts readily available. I guess all those carts just magically disappeared. Why not run the outlets how YOUR Goodwill retail store is running not 20 feet outside your front doors. The retail stores are being reasonable. They're letting people in and COUNTING how many people come in rather than lying and saying "oh no. Not enough carts." Its BS and they know it. We can see through the windows. There aren't many people in there. And then the fact that they're letting people hold carts? While waiting in line, at least three different people came out of the store with what they've purchased, put it in their cars, and went straight back in. How is that right? Just because they got here before us they can buy cartful after cartful and keep going back in all day? We don't come to this outlet often, but we certainly won't be back anytime soon. read more

I am an avid thrift store shopper. I have shopped in several thrift stores in the US. I was excited to hear about the opening of a Goodwill Outlet in the south side. I have found treasures in other Goodwill Outlets. Unfortunately, this store did not meet my expectations. I was disappointed in the lack of items in the bins. Typically at other outlets the bins are stuffed with items. Not the case at this location. Also, the staff do not cycle in and out with new bins. As a result, there is nothing to find but junk. The only reason this store is receiving on star is because of the cleanliness and the value of the purchase items. read more

I have never been to a Goodwill Outlet before and this place was even better than I thought it would be! I got a cart full of stuff (mostly clothes & baby itmes) for $17. You cannot beat that. Will be back! read more

Hmmm...what to say? As a person who has a great amount of anxiety, this place can really get to me. However, this location is a lot less "active" then the other outlet locations. By active, I mean people are a lot less pushy and grabby from what I have experienced at other Goodwill Outlet locations. There are big bins to sift through (BRING GLOVES!!!), and the replace them every hour on the hour (I think that is right anyway). While they are putting the bins into place, you are not allowed to touch them in any way until they are all in their positions. You are then charged by the pound for your purchases (except for books, which is a crock of crap!). My mother loves this place, so I often get drug here. I could do without it. However, sometimes...just sometimes there is something in here that I find interesting. read more

The ole goodwill outlet aka The Thunder dome aka The widow maker. This place isn't for the ones with high anxiety, non confrontational, easily stepped on, or the passive aggressive. This isn't a typical goodwill store. They roll oit bins full of merchandise every hour and it's a free for all. A true dog eat dog world. Nobody here cares about your feelings. There are no safe places. Forget about your personal space. Everything is sold by the pound. Wear gloves because it can be gross and you will encounter broken glass. Keep an eye on your cart because people will steal from it. It's probably not a good idea to bring your children. But with all that being said, you can find some great deals. Usually a shirt cost you .40 cents or less. I'm usually one who takes his girlfriend anywhere but not this place. She's a little snowflake who bruises easily. read more

Of the four Goodwill Outlets in Indianapolis, this one on South Emerson is the one I prefer. It is always cleaner than most of the others and it's the closest to me. Most of the bins are changed out every hour. PLEASE bring gloves as there is often broken glass in the bins even though the staff works to remove it. The other shoppers are fairly well-behaved and, if you go there a lot, many of them (and the staff) will recognize you and share smiles. The only real drawback is on days when the staff is either shorthanded or just not in top form. On those days, they will often dump just a few big items in the bins and that's it. The clothing and shoe bins are always full. As far as value for the money....GREAT!!! Happy scrounging! read more

I am a huge fan of Goodwill Outlets. Can't seem to convince all my friends, but their loss. If you walk in with no expectations of anything on your "list," you can find so many items! This is by far, bar none, the cheapest way to buy clothing! You pay by the pound, and clothes aren't heavy! This is also the best place to scrummage for odds and ends for DYI home decor pieces. When we bought our RV, I completely outfitted the kitchen with nice stuff from Goodwill Outlet. When we were raising money for our adoption, I bought stuff at Goodwill Outlet and resold continually. I made hundreds of dollars. I do not personally wear gloves, but it would not be a bad idea. If a bin smells like urine, I move on. Nothing in that bin is worth it. I always wash my hands immediately afterward, and when I get home, all items either go in the washing machine, dishwasher, or get doused in lysol wipes. I am thankful for this new location! ! I feel like the bins are not very full. That's why I gave it 4 stars. Also, the cash registers are not always adequately staffed. read more

Ok....this place is probably an acquired taste. And the experience can be anything from great to gross. But if you're a garage sale addict you don't need to do that anymore. You've found a new home. Over the course of the last nine months or so I've found everything from high quality leather jackets to nice suits that just needed dry cleaning. Out-of-season items like shorts show up here in the winter with the price tags still on them. People throw out blue jeans at the first small imperfection. Sometimes I go in and find nothing but junk in the bins. Other times I can't believe my luck. Food shows up here...dog food....human food.....whatever. Broken glass. Fish hooks. I even saw patient medical records from Johnson Memorial Hospital---XRays and MRI's with patient names on them! The bottom line is that I'm a middle class professional person that does not need to "bottom feed".....but this place can at times be hilariously fun. I've bought antique hardback books dating back into the 1800's for 75 cents a piece! My house is full of stuff from this place. This winter when you're trapped inside with nothing to do try this a few times. Realize it's two rungs below Wally World and adjust your expectations accordingly. And watch all the crazies filling shopping carts with stuff that you cannot imagine what they'll do with it. Everything....I mean everything....ends up here. I come to the store weekly always find nice things ! One mans trash is another and treasure ! These workers are very nice ,helpful and friendly ! I shop all the Goodwill stores, but most often the outlets. The Greenwood store is by far the cleanest, most customer friendly and efficient. I commend all the managers but especially want to compliment Angel, she is outstanding at her job. I've witnessed her interactions with her staff, she is a spectacular leader and motivator. read more

Good in theory. Sells everything by the pound but they do nothing but threaten to kick people out when they act like animals. Never actually seen them make anyone leave. People will kill you for a pair of shoes here, they will shove you, your cart, and any children out of their way if there are shoe bins being brought out. Heaven help everyone if there are electronics in a bin, someone's about to be assaulted. They park babies in carts in the corner and go off to shop, and employees just make an announcement to have kids with you at all times. No repercussions whatsoever. I personally have been in there as someone tried to steal a baby's shoes off her feet while she was in a cart. Have seen People pocket small items right in plain sight bc employees won't stop them. They will mass grab everything they can to keep anyone else from looking then go off in a corner to sort it. It's just gotten ridiculous and out of hand, to the point of being dangerous. read more

Just no. This place is horrible! You can smell diseases in the air that's how dirty it is. All the items are just thrown into large bins, regardless on what the item is. Glass items, always broken and just left in the bins. Books are always ripped to pieces and/or moldy from severe water damage. You can even find empty bottles and cans of soda and other drinks, because who doesn't want a used can of Sprite right? Wear the thickest gloves you can find if you really want to visit because I'm pretty sure just touching an item in there will give you an STD. The employees? Forget it, they don't care about anything and they don't even try to hide it. After all, they're making money from items they get for free that they also break in the process. Most of the customers, the regulars I'm assuming, are just as bad. Everyone is rude and pushing each other and taking things from other peoples carts. All around it's an extremely uncivil and dirty place. Steer clear of it. read more
