Ok babes, idk what happened since my last review. Covid, perhaps? The selection is SPARSE and the prices have doubled/tripled. I don't see how this is affordable for anyone considering it's a thrift store. It's no wonder why people give up on second hand and give into buying fast fashion. Jeans are $10, dresses are $12, tops are $6-7. Just a year ago I was buying vases for $2-$4 and they're $7-$14 now. It's not sustainable for people of my tax bracket. On to the next thrift store, I guess. You will be missed, MacArthur Goodwill.

Always grab a cart because there is so much good stuff. Or not-up to you. I like to peruse almost every aisle, looking at each item of clothing- I got a whole system down. Of course I'm paying attention to the color tag sale of the day, but if it's cute, it's going in the cart. The women's section is great but the men's section is good too. Their racks are packed full. They don't have fitting rooms but there are mirrors if you'd want to pull something over your clothes to try on. What's great is that they also have bathrooms. Very convenient especially when you're shopping a long time. The store also has kids clothes, shoes, small furniture, housewares, toys etc. Did I mention they have a lot of stuff? The store is clean, organized and the employees are friendly. Some items can be pricey, sure, but it's all about rummaging through to find those hidden gems and getting a good deal. I think it's fun. I truly love this place and always come back when I'm in town.

There isn't a fitting room, so I generally try things on over my clothes. While most of my experiences have been good, the staff hasn't been as nice during my last few visits. I wasn't aware of the no-tag rule unless a specific lady was there to change the price. An employee quickly took an item from me, telling me oh well come back tomorrow. Their staff isn't the nicest and sometimes ruins the shopping experience regardless of their selection of items.

How hard could that be to find? Er, really hard. I resorted to GPS which dead-ended me at the Post Office loading dock. Finally, I thought to call them and the recording sent me upstairs between Walgreens & Safeway. Who knew?! Absolutely zero signage. Mystery staircase, walkway, boarded up windows- hark, a faded logo on a locked door. I almost left, but then noticed a black garbage can with a clipboard on top. Leave your email & they'll send you a receipt. Sigh. I wanted to know if they also take shampoo, took a chance & left it along with a warm down jacket. Like I said, the jacket has a small hole, & nobody I spoke to wanted it, so it was either find a cold street person or hope the jacket will go to a good home. So, I give these angels 4 stars for the good work they do- assuming it's everything listed on their website. Minus 1 star for zero visibility from the street level. A sign or two would certainly bring them much more donations.

Also, there are some good deals but still a bit pricey like a brand new banana republic dress with tags still on for $30. They had Seiko watches for $40 b it the face was scratched. Books selection was good but didn't get why a kids/beginner level book was $2.99 (think soft copy Berenstein Bears book). Kids selection is ok, but more than what I'd like to pay for used kids clothing.

Everything is organized in sections and labeled. Again, a lot of variety. The book section is grand and I like how they're also organized by topics. Only thing that was a deterrent with this store was the pricing. Sure, you can look for the 50% color tag on some items to get a discount and possibly find a hidden gem of a deal, BUT Ross and Marshalls are literally across the street and they have all this new stuff for the same or even cheaper price (at least what I saw clothing wise). I personally wouldn't go out of my way to this location. I would think with so many items being donated, you'd find a fair price to keep items circulating and truly being a thrift price. Would I go back? Sure. It's just wasn't my exciting go to thrift spot. Check it out for yourself!

Although the young man helping to take my donations was friendly and polite, after I specifically pointed out a breakable item, he proceeded to THROW it into a bin and I literally heard a crash as if it had shattered. I really couldn't find the words and so didn't say anything, but really?? Why would I drive all the way down here for you to literally trash my belongings, when I could have thrown them in the trash at home myself with a lot less hassle? How management is allowing this when all Goodwill seems to care about is making money anyway is beyond me. Speaking of which, I don't know how they survive with their inflated prices and run-down, dingy store. Half the shelves in the back were empty (which is bizarre considering I KNOW they are getting a ton of donations - I saw the bins!) and the rest was filled with dirty-looking junk. There might have been some decent clothes, but a lot are overpriced and there's nowhere to try them on anyway (couldn't even find a mirror). Being in there just makes me feel sad. Next time I will literally throw things in the trash before donating here. So done with Goodwill in general. In fact I'd rather call it Ill Will, because that is what it makes me feel.

Yelp isn't your personal grievance diary and taking a public swing at a longtime employee says more about you than it does about her. If you genuinely felt wronged, the adult move is to address it with management directly. As a person of color myself, tossing around accusations like racism in a review without substance isn't advocacy--what it is, is lazy, flippant and overreach. As for the store itself: Salvation Army Thrift Store continues to do what it's always done--support people who actually need it. Yes, prices may be up slightly (I only thrift clothes and shoes so increase is between $1-$5 across the levels), but they're still well below most local thrift competitors, and the mission behind the register matters. As a side note, the new rewards program is a great new added incentive! The Valencia team shows up, works hard, and treats people with respect. If that's not enough, no one's forcing you to shop here--feel free to take your expectations (and attitude) elsewhere.
