As a semi-avid goer of this location and a volunteer at this location before today, I really loved InJoy and the Greenville location as well. But this place has changed drastically since I started going there over a year ago and started volunteering there almost a year ago. The original manager I knew is gone; the entire store's been rearranged and remodeled; the 50% volunteer discount went down to 20%; and I didn't even get it half the time after the change. You can't buy in bulk anymore while volunteering (a box with a set price instead of each item individually priced), and it just doesn't feel the same anymore. It ended today when I was told by the new manager that I've had my volunteering privileges revoked. She tried to hide why and kept avoiding when I asked why until I started getting into specifics. I asked if it was because I had tried to buy a camera bag at one price rather than opening it and individually pricing everything in it (which I had done because I had forgotten about the new rule and it was like 6:10 pm and everyone wanted to leave, which was quickly remedied by me going into the back, taking both cameras out, and a lens box for one of the cameras, getting him to price the cameras, and paying for them, by which I didn't get the discount then either), and she said things were "missing from the bag," which is quite odd considering I was the only one who'd looked at it aside the donation receiver as I grabbed the camera bag from a donation bin used for incoming donations that was under multiple other crates. Furthermore, I had left that bag on the overflow shelving before I left next to (or close to) a broken point-and-shoot Samsung camera I had tested previously (and ruined one roll of film and ended up screwing the other one up with humidity by leaving it in my pocket while testing), and said bag was gone today when I went, having only a camera flash and booklets left in it when I had last seen it. It is my humble opinion, and that too of my parents, that someone stole from the location and blamed it on me. It is disappointing that a store built on Christian values would have such a situation occur, and it's disappointing what this place has become.

This place is full of hidden gems if your a thrifter looking for something unique, affordable, special, or maybe just downright hilarious you may just find it here! It's loaded with various clothes and shoes for all ages and sizes, household items, books, and Christmas/seasonal items as well! The person who heads up the store is fabulous, and so kind! All the staff members were very helpful, and want to see you leave with exactly what your looking for. When you enjoy talking to the staff just as much as you enjoyed the actual shopping experience, you have found a truly special combo! It's a real shame if a needy family has to suffer through Helen's bad attitude to get assistance.

How can I not give TROSA Thrift Store of Durham five stars? They were able to do what Habitat for…read moreHumanity ReStore (Durham) and the Durham Rescue Mission could not: They picked up our furniture donation from the third floor of our apartment building without an elevator. The other places either required an elevator or the furniture be moved to the ground floor. Not only that, but the guys from TROSA, Quentin R and Christian, showed up on time and worked efficiently. Also, TROSA's Donations Coordinator, Cheryl Rogers, was great to work with. Everything was taken care of without any hiccups. The lady I spoke to at Durham Rescue Mission referred me to TROSA. I had never heard of TROSA until that point in time. Shortly thereafter, I learned that my wife's clinic regularly treats patients from TROSA and my mom has donated furniture to TROSA's Winston-Salem thrift store. TROSA stands for Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers. Both Quentin and Christian came up through the TROSA program. If I recall correctly from my conversation with Christian, TROSA helped get them back on their feet. Quentin is older and I believe a graduate who is now a manager. Both guys were nice and did really hard work. They helped move the following for us: 1 office desk 1 office chair 2 loveseats with pillows 1 lounge chair with cushions 1 small table set (3 tables in 1) 1 fold-up shelf (3 tier) ------------------------------ 7 items total The office desk was old, but in good condition, and super heavy. As soon as they saw it, Quentin said it was going to be "fun." They wrapped it in plastic to protect it before moving it. I was curious how they were going to move it. They didn't wear gloves or use a hand truck. They simply used their bare hands and raw strength, plus some moving blankets to help slide the desk on the second floor of the stairwell. I was really impressed. Christian took most of the weight, being the guy on bottom. It wasn't an easy task. Afterwards, Quentin and Christian told me the desk wasn't that bad. They've had to move much worse, like pianos. Just an incredible job by those two. It took them about 40 minutes to haul everything away. Quentin ran the show. He and Christian were able to find our apartment door without having to call and ask where to go (a lot of delivery drivers got lost, but not these guys). They were uniformed in light blue TROSA T-shirts and black pants/shorts. While moving the items, Quentin had me fill out a Donation Pickup Form that listed everything I donated with an estimated value. At the end, all three of us signed it. I received a copy of the form which serves as a receipt for an income tax deduction. Also, there was a place on the form where I could write in a tip, which served as an additional donation. I tipped $35 in cash. The pickup itself was free. Beforehand, I coordinated with Cheryl over the phone and via email. We handled the list of furniture items to be donated and the scheduling and logistics of the donation itself. I was located in Chapel Hill and the first stop (11:00am) in Chapel Hill on Quentin and Christian's route that day, a Tuesday. You can call or email TROSA to get the process started. I emailed. Cheryl called me within one business day and was able to get me scheduled as soon as 13 days out, which ended up working out perfectly for us. Book early. One thing Cheryl asked me for was emailed pictures of everything I wanted to donate. She then called me again a couple days later to confirm the pickup appointment and details like parking, how many stairs and landings, etc. TROSA is thorough. Quentin and Christian arrived in a large marked TROSA truck. Coincidentally, I noticed a TROSA truck at our same apartment complex less than two weeks prior to this pickup.

They are working with the program for consistent recovery and it shows. Just a great group of overcomes pushing through for their best life. Oh, and their donation zone is so easy. Drive up to the front, get the guys to lend a hand, and drop off! Also, they pick up for donation (upon approval) so send things you would want to upcycle and buy. They also deliver large pieces with a fee based on your distance from the store. Truly such an easy and professional experience. Love them.

Pros: Great place to…read morefind treasure. They restock pretty often and it doesn't *seem* like they are screening the donations and running an Ebay store out of the back. The store is usually clean and organized (for a thrift store). The prices are usually very consistent and they don't seem to try and charge antique store prices for some of the nicer stuff that comes through. They get it. You move volume -- you don't run off your customers with stale inventory and a back shelf full of high dollar items that sit there for months until they get marked down to a reasonable number. Cons: The music. They play a very limited selection of "Christian" music that is usually just pop-music ripoffs with the redundant lyrics. The staff can *sometimes* be hard to tolerate. I do understand that they put up with A LOT of crazy, but I've had to overhear some pretty borderline racist things about "immigrants" over the last couple of years. Remember ladies, when you're preaching to the choir outside of of the congregation, some people might not appreciate overhearing you recite some of your conservative media talking points. All-in-all, it's a great thrift store, and since most of them are now Ebay stores that sell the junk they can't get bids for, it's one of the few left around. My daughter was in here and wanted to buy a skirt and the tag had fallen off, there were a bunch of skirts all priced the same and the salesman would not reprice it, and would not sell it to her. He told her to come back Monday, she told him she could not and she needed the skirt for a school event and he basically told her he couldn't help her. She offered to pay more for it than all of the others were priced and he told her he would not help her out.
