Okay, I've tried coming here a few more times since my initial visit and it's still a no for me. I seriously do not understand why this place has so many 4 and 5 star reviews! The shelving units that display household items and books are very messy. Stuff is falling off the shelves, there is no rhyme or reason to how stuff is being put up on the shelves. Not to mention the prices. Used up, damaged items and they are asking near retail value. Ridiculous for used and damaged items. Onto the clothing. I cannot believe the low quality, worn out, and damaged clothing here. Out of my own curiosity, I sifted through all the women's and half of the men's clothing racks. 90% of the clothing was cheap, low quality, fast fashion brands from Target, Forever21, SHEIN, Old Navy, Costco/Kirkland, and various different brands exclusive to Kohls! For this caliber of clothing, the prices were outrageous considering the condition of the clothing. Worn out, holes, stains, snags all over, fabric pilling. I found maybe 2 name brand items per rack. Name brand things meaning a used up Ralph Lauren tank top, a free people shirt, and a Wildfox tank top. The handbags were the same. Not one decent bag in the whole store. Cheap bags from target and old stained up tote bags from years past. And the shoes, omg, the shoes were just as bad as the clothes, but shoes! All dirty, used up beyond repair, holes, broken zippers and laces. I don't know how they can justify the pricing for these used up damaged items. Nobody working here was rude or anything, I just can't believe the low quality items they are selling for such high prices! read more

This is Goodwill one step up. It's a bit "fancier" than the run of the mill Goodwill stores. They have antique looking items & the clothes fairly well organized. I've donated items here & the guys who work in the receiving area are friendly & courteous. They seem to enjoy working there & one guy shared he gets to see interesting items come in so he really likes working there. Although they don't need to, since they are not personally benefitting from my donations, they thank me whenever I drop off bags of clothes & other household items. This used to be Trader Joe's & i liked having it close to my house but this store is interesting drop by from time to time to check out what they have. I haven't bought anything yet but it's fun to look at the furniture & other stuff there. read more

I was helping my daughter by picking up her donations from her house and taking them there. I mistakenly grabbed a box of toys that she needed for her job to use in a local school. She went back the next day and they said she could buy them back. That is unacceptable. read more

Clean, organized and excellent staff!! I've been going to this location for years and since it's been under new management "Vanessa" there has been a significant improvement in how well the store is run. Not sure why staff is telling people "we're closed" while walking in at 6:45pm on a Friday night (First Friday's in bixby knolls so lots of people out and about) when online and the doors say open till 8pm. The person working the register tonight was telling everyone they were closed. It was busy inside. Good amount of people shopping. Originally I walked out when she told me but then saw more people go in after me and stay in so I went back in. I ended up not buying anything this trip. The store looked like it had been a busy day. I hope the hours haven't changed. It's part of my Friday night routine. read more

I have to write this review because it's over due. I used to love coming here. I was always greeted and staff were very nice. Prices were ok but now have increased by a lot. Before I get some feedback on this. I do understand that prices go up however; the items are donated and if staffing is an excuse to increase prices then you're definitely over pricing your items. Every time I come here now, there is only one person or maybe 2 working. They are way over worked! Sadly one great employee I enjoyed talking to has left this place. She was one of the nicest employees I met. Never once did she talk bad about this store. It's sad that this store is now so disorganized, over priced and chaotic. I've decided to not make any more donations here. And I've decided not to buy here anymore. And stop asking people to donate their change every time they buy something! read more

Sadly, I gotta take away a star. I continue to come to this store regularly but the quality of items has really gone downhill and last time I was there, the place was trashed. It's no different than any other Goodwill at this point. I saw a Dollar Tree candle for $4.99 and lots of other overpriced junk. If you're expecting a "curated" thrift, don't. Clark and Atherton has that title, hands down. The employees are great and I will still find something here and there but don't go out of your way to make a visit. read more

Fancy name for a goodwill store that focuses on designer clothes, though everything else about a goodwill store applies: one can still donate here, and find housewares and other Knick knacks. From my visit, there were plenty of clothes for men but the brands are what I see at other goodwills but with a higher price. Jeans seem to be a specialty here...they all run 9.95 or so and are in good shape. But you can also find fast fashion brands, where the price at the original store can be even less if discounted. You just have to know what to look for, which I'll admit I am not good at (but slowly learning) read more

Great quality thrift store. The items are very well hand selected, the prices are very reasonable, the store is clean and well organized. I wish they had more selection of items but I guess you either get large selection and lower quality vs. smaller selection but higher quality. Overall, a good store to shop at. The store has great find for good prices but couple things that made my shopping there little unpleasant was that they have just couple rolling carts, half the store had to just carry all their finds while shopping. I also didn't like that the clothes are so jam packed onto the racks that it's hard to swipe left or right to see the clothings without actually having to pull it out, other than that customer service has always been great here. read more

Probably my favorite Goodwill store in Long Beach. Most clothing items are reasonably priced, and you can probably find a lot of good brands. In the summer, I purchased several cardigans/jackets/sweaters for fall at $6.49 each. That's pretty good in my book! Kitchenware and other miscellaneous house items tend to be overpriced, in my opinion. They are almost comparable to the price of new items in department stores, so it discouraged me from buying. Staff here are usually nice, no complaints so far. There are also two dressing rooms, which are usually on the cleaner side. Parking here is spacious. I give this location 4 stars because I can always find something here but wish the house/kitchen items were priced more reasonably. read more

I came in because I was curious to see what Edgar & James, A Curated Collection by Goodwill, is all about. I had heard that these stores are where the nicer, or higher end items that are donated to Goodwill come to be sold. What I found is just a Goodwill store that has items displayed in more of a retail store manner. The store itself is the old Trader Joe's location on Atlantic, so I thought that the interior would have been nicer, it's pretty spread out, but feels very stark and, uh, dirty. The employees were young, friendly, and constantly working trying to keep the mess under control, like when the lady knocked glassware displayed on a table to the floor. That was my queue to leave. Now, I'm not usually a thrift store shopper, but I do love an antique or great furniture consignment store, and this is neither an antique or great anything store. I honestly don't know what I was expecting, but this Edgar & James is just another thrift store. 87/100 read more

I love giving back and choosing to support this store has been an amazing experience. As I grown in life I can only shake my head at the disrespect I used to have for money if I knew then what I know now in my " cute old age "I would have definitely saved more. I have soo many things way more than I can ever use in this lifetime and the vast majority of what I own I have literally used only a few times. On Facebook I saw the ad about Goodwill and I was determined to donate. Now some will try and disparage this organization but I'm choosing to stop the negative and begin anew by giving back to help the community. I drove over and lucky me it's literally 2 blocks from my condo they have a drop off area in back and a staff member helped me unload my gear. About the store The store is large and located where trader Joe used to be- it's a neat clean store filled with a bit of everything shoes clothes kitchen ware wall pictures and so much more and the staff is diverse interesting and cool. My donation 60 music cd's in mint condition from Motown meat loaf foreigner Mozart Tupac Patti Page and Streisand this girl likes it all. Kitchen gear- dishes plates collectible items and such. Jewelry A variety of costume jewelry feather earrings choker style necklaces regular vintage necklaces watches costume jewelry bracelets and so much more lord have mercy I had soo much. Van tennis shoes in mint condition clean and ready to wear. Clothing clean and ready to hang. I laughed and said I have the 80's 90's and 2000 up in these bags -me and the staff chuckled. My dresses sweaters jacket skirts shirts sweat suits business and casual wear are flawless and most have never been worn - I donated over 50 items. And I donated my mothers clothing as well she had sooo many mint condition clothes it was breathtaking how much she had - and most still had the tags on them. I'm what you call a " neat hoarder "lol I'm waiting for them to stop by pick up my older tv the tv stand a desk dresser books and more from my house. I need this stuff gone like today. Lol FYI: Salvation Army refused the furniture items last year- because the quality wasn't up too par " the wood " is soft and they would not accept my things despite the items being in good condition. SMH at the arrogance of them -they get so much now they feel they can turn people away. My opinion If you haven't donated to goodwill please do so today - open up your closets and donate everything you do not need it's only stuff and helps people to work - Yes- goodwill hires a lot and Saturday I met a woman working in the drop off area who told me that's how she came to goodwill she was older and they hired her and she says the company has been good to her. As I pack more stuff to donate I feel free it's very freeing to unload clutter and the space I have now is breathtaking and this lol gal with ocd feels so much better. No complaints get out donate today I highly recommend this organization. read more

I frequent this store often and they always have cool inventory. They often tend to carry antiques and furniture. The prices here are not cheap but the stuff tends to be more "one of a kind". It definitely feels like a antique store/collectible store. They had some cool recliners on my visit and they looked almost brand new. Unfortunately, the recliner was $149 but I am sure it retails for much more. (see photos) They tend to decorate the store for various holidays as well. They did a great job at Christmas and valentines day. The prices here are not cheap but the stuff tends to be more one of a kind. It definitely feels like a antique store/collectible store. This is like a fancy goodwill! Very nice, clean, spacious store. They had a good selection of furniture/household items and the attendants were awesome. I wish I remembered the guys name. When we first started donating to and shopping at this location when it opened, it truly offered a curated selection of beautifully displayed, top quality merchandise. Sadly, this is no longer true. When we visited last month, the store was in complete disarray and a large number 'junk' quality items cluttering the home and merchandise shelves. A good top to bottom cleaning is in order. Please get rid of the trash and start curating your goods again. read more

Found exactly what I was looking for. A hoody, a t-shirt and a pair of jeans. I frequent Edgar & James at least once a month and I always find something I like. Rebecca is always polite, warm and approachable! Always greets thrifters with a welcoming voice and warm smile. Now about the items. Great price and in good condition. The jeans look new. I made sure to inspect it for wear and tear but found none! Got a Deadpool T-Shirt! Perfect fit for me and I really dig the art / design. Its winter and starting to get chilly so decided to pick up a hoody! Red USC hoody it is. Total cost for all three items was less than a meal at a local Korean BBQ :) Thank you Carrol and Rebecca for my new outfit!!! I'LL be back!!! read more

Not sure why this Goodwill is considered special. It doesn't have more "desirable" items than any other Goodwill. I was hoping to find some more name brand or authentically vintage items but nuthin, and if anything, less! And the pricing was higher for the regular items than at other shops! The store itself is a "nicer" shopping environment in that there's more space between racks and less fluorescent lighting but other than that, zzzzzzz. read more

I have found cute clothes there and they last a long time. Sweaters, pants, long sleeved tops and stuff to use for dance classes. Nobody knows...but, wash and wear it! *Caveat: Beware of Roaches. Employees seemed unbothered when I told them about the one crawling under a glove at the register. If you see one, there are others. Don't bring them home with you. Also they need to not have angry and bitter women working there. It's bad energy. read more

I'm an avid thrifter. I tend to like pieces that are unique and to simply put it- one of a kind. For a place like this to be "curated", I was sort of disappointed. However, I will give this place 4 stars due to the fact that it was mostly clean and all of the clothing I went through were in good condition. This store is just like any other goodwill with maybe a few designer pieces at the register. Ordinary- which I guess isn't really a complaint. Staff was nice so that's always a plus. Was excited about this store opening up, but disappointed that it took space where something else could have. Has some cool stuff, however, pricing is about the same as stores like Ross, Marshalls and such, so I would rather go to those stores, where you can even find vintage looking items although they are not. So I found a blouse with 2 price tags. One tag was from the original store it came from, which I believe is Fallas Peredes, where you can find cute things at very reasonable prices. The second tag was from this store. So.... the blouse was originally $5.99... this store priced it at $12.99. Whaaa?! Duh... should've taken off the original tag.
