AMVETS Thrift Store This is a review for my experience shopping and donating at the AMVETS (American Veterans) Thrift Store. I enjoy shopping and donating to AMVETS. All of their proceeds support our American heroes, so please visit this location. AMVETS, Dept. of CA Service Foundation - Visit: www.amvetscasf.org LOCATION: It is located in a complex across the street from the Winco grocery store. There are plenty of parking spaces. HOURS 9AM-7PM DONATION: Hours of Operation for Donations: Everyday 9AM-7PM Towards the back of the building is the donation area. They are pretty accepting of anything you'd like to give. I usually put them in a garbage bag and they sort it themselves. Very easy! They DO NOT take: Baby items Bed frames Food Printers ***Ask for a donation receipt, so you can file it with your taxes. SHOP: The store is organized pretty well. Clothes are organized by color. They have shoes, blankets, art, books, electronics, and house items. The aisles are wide enough to skim through clothing with a cart. Enjoy the treasure hunt! You can find great clothes and brand name items here. The prices are awesome too! I would say $10 or less for most clothing pieces. PRICE TAGS: ***If your item does not have a tag, they cannot sell it to you. Honor their store policy and respect the employees. Pricing - I recently went back to this thrift store and was shocked at the prices. I went with my mom and she did buy some things but it was overpriced in my opinion. - Sometimes there are discounts. I found a dress for my halloween diy costume and I was glad I got it for cheaper. This was only after I had first gone to my preferred thrift shop and hadn't found what I needed. Quality I think it's a mixed bag, but mostly items in good condition. Organization The clothes are color coded which is great if you need a specific color. However, the organization of the sizing is off, which kinda makes the color coding pointless. I went straight to the area of the color I needed for my costume, but perusing through a big section where the sizing was all mixed up was frustrating. Location/ Parking -Ample parking. I've never had issues with parking. - The thrift store is pretty big. All in all I would go more often if the prices weren't so high for a thrift store. But high prices and mixed up sizes puts it below my other options. read more

I've been a regular here since moving to the area 5 years ago. Since the change in ownership the quality has tanked and the prices have skyrocketed. Pricing racks of USED SHEIN for $8+ is criminal. The only remaining redeeming quality are the handful of friendly young people who work here. read more

Stopped by to do some extra vintage shopping. Huge store with a nice selection of finds. Very organized, both men, women, and children sections are very large. The staff were continuously bringing items out and stocking the racks. Super clean as well. Great prices too. A lot if youth shopping and carts full of good finds. This place supports vets from all military branches too! Can't ask for a better reason to shop here. read more

We have, on a few occasions, taken used household items to this facility. The process is very convenient and we like the fact that our castoffs will be sold at a minimal cost to those who can make use of them. Also it's nice to know that the income generated will go to veterans' organizations. Usually we are met by a young man who very pleasantly receives our items, but this last time it was an older man who, in a somewhat brusque manner accepted our belongings. There were no real issues until he came across a few items that he apparently didn't feel were quite up to their standards. Fine, if you don't think an item is resell-able then by all means toss it out, BUT not while I'm standing there. This rude bastard took at least four items, which my children have grown too old to use, and flung them through the air into a trash container. I was immediately angered at the entire Amvet organization As I had more time to think about it I realized my annoyance was only with this idiot that was representing their company. Amvet really needs to be aware of public reaction to this individual who for many of us is the only contact we have with their company. read more

I found the most beautiful London Fog coat here and was so excited to see it was only $25! But, I guess while walking around the store the tag fell off of it. I didn't notice until getting to the register and the cashier was searching for it and he said that if theres no tag he cant sell it. I said I would walk around the store to try and find the tag but apparently they have a policy where if the tag isnt attached they wont sell it. It 'has to get taken to the back and retagged overnight'. I probably would have been fine with this if any of the staff working were actually polite about it but instead the manager came out and came at me with an attitude when I hadn't even spoke to her myself yet. Probably won't be coming back here, but congrats to anyone that gets to snag this coat tomorrow when it hits the racks again!!! :) read more

Good prices and you will be surprised by what you can find. We were able to get most of holiday decorations here when the stores were mostly sold out so definitely check it out when trying to decorate on a budget. Workers are nice and the place is kept tidy. read more

Used to love coming here but in the last year or so they've really gone down the gutter. No more discount days/tag sales, no more punch cards, and prices are sky high compared to what they were even a year ago. Not to mention they have massively reduced the size of their toys, books, and electronic sections. The shelves used to be full of cool stuff and now it's just a bunch of overpriced trinkets and more throw pillows than anyone could ever want. Sad to say but I won't be shopping here anymore. I scheduled a pick up in Belmont Shore of 2 very nice club matching chairs. There were NO tears, NO big stains, but a few smaller stains....keep in mind this is for a charity. Their driver refused to take them as there were a few small stains on them and they would have trouble "selling" them to thrift stores. They were 7 years old and in very good condition. If they wanted perfect donations, they should go to new furniture stores. I will not ever donate to this cause again. read more

I always say that my pickers off when it comes to men and that's why I'm single. Yet my thrift store picker is always good ! I used to spend hours in this store . I would always get amazing vintage and lots of designer stuff here. I got a turquoise mid century couch that I still have today. Its my favorite thing I own. Originally marked 300 and I got it for $30 Most happiest moment of my young life was buying that turquoise couch I promise you! I I've always been into the 50s! I use to go down each aisle and just pull everything out and put it sideways so other people can find it. A lot of Designer Kotor labels Versace, PierreCardin, and of course the vintage classics. So much cool stuff here ! Most of my pillbox hat collection I got here for all under five dollars ! That was definitely 20 years ago now things have definitely changed. These days I don't need to find a one of a kind outfit that I'm going to see 400 to 30,000 People in. I'm not a big-time clubs Promoter that was known for having an original Vintage style Like I was back then. I will tell you that I cherish each treasure that I found here. When I'm purging through my stuff trying to minimalize my life I never get rid of the treasures I found here. Re-purposing is amazing but don't let it take over your life. This is definitely a great Nonprofit to contribute to, and definitely a five star Thrifting experience. read more

We had donated here twice before and both times the employees at drop off were nice and helpful. This third time however, terrible customer service! I had sent my novia to go drop off lots of donations. An employee named Martha is working the drop off. Holy shit was she rude to her. Hence why I'm leaving a one star. My girlfriend received no hello, a rolling of eyes when informed about us keeping the plastic containers the stuff came in, following by a loud sigh like it was going to be such a tough job for her to bring an empty container from wherever they keep them. Then Martha proceeds to gossip aka probably talk shit, with another female employee while pointing to my gf (my gf was on the phone with me at that point, back in the car). Also, there were other people donating and Martha was polite and helpful to them but once it was my gfs turn her attitude changed and she was cold and almost looked upset. Could this have been some sort of homophobic gesture on her behalf? Who knows, but it's really messed up if it was. Si no quieres trabajar entonces que haces allí... I am a Veteran and was excited to donate to their cause and stores. The driver showed up, only to leave immediately to take a 1 hour lunch. I had to leave for an appointment, so he took a pic and told me what he could take and told me to leave it in the driveway for when he got back. I got back from my appointment as he was leaving and half the items were still in my driveway. He said he had plenty of room but "HE" didn't want the rest. He took some exercise equip and not others, some coolers and not others, some sports items and not others, some household items and not others. It seemed like he cherry picked items for himself and left everything else. I have my doubts if anything will even make it to the charity. So much for trying to support Veterans. I will never use them again. read more

I was willing to overlook the high prices since they supposedly serve veterans. However, the indifference by staff and downright hostility toward shoppers was a total turnoff. This is one of my favorite thrift stores hand down. Reasonable prices, multi day discounts by color. Always a treasure to shop. Parking is annoying / hard to find. You can't take the carts outside. I've gotten name brand items for good prices. They will not "up" the price just because of "eBay" prices or whatever. I don't mind paying a decent amount, but if i wanted to buy from eBay I would. Love how they don't discriminate for that! The only downside to this thrift is: 1. If something is "open" or missing a tag [ie. It fell off] they will not sell it to you. i understand it, someone might try to take something out or change tags, but I've had my toddler rip something off while in line and they wouldn't sell it to me even at the check out lane and the cashier witnessed it. 2. Customers. Because this thrift store is reasonably with their prices, customers tend to get aggressive and/or act like bully's for items. read more

Two female cashiers today had the nastiest customer service. Since I walked in I heard one arguing with a customer. My daughter wanted a doll that she held onto since we arrived and once we were going to pay the girl told us she can't sell it because it had no price tag. So my daughter Ofcourse cried and the cashier looked annoyed with zero empathy and just tossed the doll behind her. How hard is it to name a price , we would've paid. Dumbest policy ever. ANOTHER thing , I'm pregnant and really had to pee and asked for the restroom but they closed the bathrooms to public. When I told her I was pregnant she questioned me like she didn't believe me but then finally called someone to open it. The person she called made a rude comment saying there should be no exceptions just because I was pregnant. I felt so awkward and uneasy. I used to come here once a week but slowly started stepping away because I've had more and more unpleasant encounters like today. Now today was definitely the last time. read more

Hit and miss thrift store when you're thrifting for fun. More hits than misses for me though. I always drop in when im in the area.

This store is huge! The prices can't be beat. Yeah the atmosphere is a little junky but they always have good color sales and take cards. Great place for furniture and frames. The store is mostly women's but has a good men's selection as well. Not organized by size but worth it if you have the time to dig for treasures. They have a couple TVs displaying the color sales on a loop incase you forget which is super helpful when making decisions. read more

Amvets is always a pleasure to visit. It's a bit bigger than the thrift stores I frequent so I suggest coming in with a plan of attack on what you're looking forward. I was on a mission to find jeans so coming in and doing that was good. The associates all wore masks and floor workers stayed out of our way by working and doing go-backs as quickly as they could. My cashier seemed disinterested in what she was doing and overtly cold, verbally and nonverbally but I'm sure the other employees are a bit more welcoming On a COVID related note, there isn't anyone counting or keeping track of how many people are inside. This didn't bother me as I knew what I was going for was just in for a quick visit but I know other store do keep tracki of this so if that is something you're keeping an eye out for, this place doesn't do that. read more

The outside is a bit sketchy and it's located in what is possibly the worst parking lot ever. Potholes abound and during the rain it floods half the lot. But the store itself is pretty well stocked and they take all manner of donations. Just be prepared as they don't take donations during rainy days. read more

Good store for a good cause! This store is really large, and just packed with clothes. The jewelry counter has a lot of goodies just heaped in trays. Really fair pricing for their vintage items, found a Boucher in here. Only bad thing is when I went their credit card machine was broken, but that should be fixed by now. read more

I love shopping here. Great deals. I don't want to leave a negative review, but I won't buy clothes here anymore for one reason. Can you please STOP stapling the price tag to the fabric. This damages the clothes and often leaves holes. I don't want to risk buying something that may develop a visible hole from the staple. The simple fix is to staple the tag instead and the clothing will not be damaged. I can't be the only one that feels so strongly about this. read more

Love this place! Everything is really cheap and in good condition. If your looking for books I'd recommend you come here! I literally found soo many books I was going to buy on Amazon and they're good as new. I found twilight, divergent, city of bones (mortal instruments), Harry Potter etc. And for clothes as well but you really have to look into it to find good things but prices are just great! 10/10 def recommend. read more
