As a fan of thrift shops, I love going to any thrift shop out of town to see what they offer. This Goodwill is very clothes oriented especially towards the front, to the point that when we walked in my husband and I thought they only had clothes. Fairly well organized but they didn't have a large electronic section so we didn't get much. Employees were generally friendly and we looked around for about twenty minutes before we made our purchases.

I love this Goodwill. I'm an avid thrift store'r-- catch me on any day of the week and I can nearly guarantee I'm wearing something someone died in. This Goodwill is a go-to for me, because they have a huge selection-- and, particularly, a sizable selection of buy-out clothing (as opposed to thrifted). Hit them on Saturdays; that tends to be the half-off day for the entire store. Give them a call before you pop by to see what the day's discount is.

I think they made the mistake of taking the discount for seniors on Sundays at 50 percent off and a lot is over priced.

Pretty nice store. A little hot. I think the AC was acting up a little bit. But overall they had a good selection & friendly staff.

Had such a sad experience today, and am still shaken up…read more This is a longer review, but with respect to the other associate, I want to make sure I'm clear with where the issues originated. We rented some beautiful pieces for our show this month, and Marianne was amazing in getting everything set up and ready for us. When returning most of the items, I made the mistake of returning a shirt to the wrong location, so I had to come back the next week to complete everything. I was ready to pay an extension fee, but she was kind and allowed for that margin. We had a dress and lace-up shirt to bring back as well. My mother dropped off the dress first, and was told sternly by Nancy there would be a $40 damage fee. I wasn't sure what that was for, so when I stopped by to drop off the lace up shirt, I asked. I have a new costume team, so if mistakes were made, I want to make sure they know where they must improve. I have no problem paying the fee- prices here are very fair- but something happened after I asked what the fee was for. Nancy stormed away without speaking a minute, planted at another counter, and then proceeded to tear into me, loud enough for the room full of customers to hear, and potentially even the adjacent room. I think she somehow concluded I was trying to get out of a fee, which upset her. Despite me trying to communicate that wasn't the case, not only did she stop listening but she threw insults. A few of Nancy's choice sentences: "You are so snooty" "Your energy is killing me" "Has anyone ever told you that before? It's true" "You sound so snippy" "Everything you say is so passive aggressive" -I replied I was being genuine, she said, "I don't believe you." "I have been doing this for 40 years so if there's an issue I know it's not me." "Blip blip blip blip" (mimicking me talking and cutting me off for asking where to drop off the final shirt this week) Even if I was trying to negotiate damages, you still shouldn't use public shaming as a tactic. The customer is not always right, but I do believe that standards of mutual respect should be held in all interactions. Marianne was kind, professional, helpful, and honestly made the magic of clothing and performance come alive for me and my cast that came with me. Nancy was hostile, insulting, aggressive, and never even created space for response. I do have the interaction recorded, so all details can be corroborated. I'm not the person to post it (public shaming is not my method) but I'm happy to share the recording with the owners for reflection. I do hope moving forward that a space where artists can create that much magic together can also be a space of safety, gentleness, and mutual respect.

I am updating a previous 5-star review based on recent experiences. Please note in my previous…read morereview how I specifically address the fact that the business owner is willing to negotiate on prices and commonly gives discounts on large quantities. This is important for the information below Quick take: If you decide to try Hi-Bred, I hope you have deep pockets. And don't forget, the owner is always right, never the customer. Back story: I have shopped at Hi-Bred nearly two dozen times over the past 9 years. In the past, when the owner (Shawna) was located at her previous space near Walnut Hills, I really enjoyed visiting her. The selection was good and the prices were fair. Nearly every time I purchased with her she would negotiate on bulk sales and willingly offered discounts for items that had issues; loose buttons or tiny tears. As is common with vintage clothing stores in Cincinnati (Pixel 19 vintage, RAD OTR, etc.) the more clothing you purchase the more willing they are to offer a bulk discount... some places even advertise this. The last few times I had been to Hi-Bred I left disappointed with the selection, the prices, and inclusion. However, I kept returning in hopes I was visiting on an off day. As the operator of a small family owned business myself, I understand the stress of an operation such as this... and we all have bad days. I get it. However, I also know this is the career I picked and that fair prices, patience, and kindness are the ingredients to success. Sadly, these critical ingredients are now missing at Hi-Bred. More details about the owners communication: The last three times I had been in, Shawna seemed very unwelcoming. I totally understand having an off day and was sad to see her so distant. I hoped that she would return to her friendly self in time. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case. On my most recent trip I brought up a trench-coat I wanted to buy and asked for the price as the tag had fallen off. I soon realized that I had seen the tag on the floor and brought it up to the front. The tag was indeed for the coat in question, it was $150 which I communicated to her. She then proceeded to print out a new price tag and re-labeled the jacket for $200, $50 more than it was when I walked into the store. How does math like this work? A customer is interested so you raise the price? I have spent a lot of time and money here. I would estimate that I have made a dozen different transactions at this establishment since my first visit in 2015. The vast majority of these transactions saw some sort of discount for one or all items. She was always willing and happy to negotiate when I purchased several items at once. So on my most recent visit I attempted to once again negotiate, as we had always done, to buy four items. Some Buttons were coming loose on a cardigan so I hoped that she may discount the item accordingly. However, before I could finish speaking she cut me off and told me that I was being rude for even asking. She followed up with stating that she wouldn't come to my place of business and ask for a discount. I found this extremely distasteful. Shawna has no idea what I do for business. In fact, customers come in all the time asking for discounts, samples, free goods, etc. In the real world, negotiation is the definition of business. We negotiate our insurance rates, supplier fees, royalties, contract prices, and much more. Shawna continued and carried on stating that the cost of rent was so high where she was located and the pandemic was extremely challenging for her... As if she had been the only person to go through it. And how am I, a customer, supposed to know your rent rates? Shawna isn't the same friendly person I use to do business with. I understand recent struggles as a small business owner, but one thing I would never do is take my frustrations out on my customers! Why bite the hand that feeds you? The owners comments about the cost of living and the cost of rent were extremely tone deaf and hypocritical. The customer isn't responsible for your rent rates, you signed the contract. Sad to see Hi-Bred is a shell of what it use to be. Best of luck, I hope you can bounce back

Each area is categorized by color: blues to the right, browns and whites straight ahead, violets in the back of the store. Open doorways weave in and out of the dividing wall, allowing customers to float freely from continent to continent... er... section to section. Beautiful, plush scarves caught my eye, as well as some of the old writing table decorations. One room in the back was filled with an assortment of accessories, like jewelry, hair barrettes, and hats. Incredibly well organized, this shop is like strolling through a fashion museum. Prices were a little higher than expected, and although there were two salesladies in the store, neither of them acknowledged that I was there. That bumped Vintage Marketplace down to three stars. I'd still stop back for a browse though. The window display changes frequently (and, in my opinion, is the most elaborate in Hyde Park), so something new will likely draw me in again.
