Recently, we went back to their store to purchase a couch, swivel chair and ottoman. We were met by Carolynn (owner) and selected a couch and ottoman by Smith Brothers and tried several swivel/gliders but none "fit". Carolynn checked dimensions of a Smith Brothers chair online and recommended it. I repeatedly stated I did not feel comfortable buying a chair I couldn't sit in first but she was very convincing that the dimensions were what I was looking for. She was extremely helpful in picking out fabrics that blended well together but that's where the story goes awry. The furniture was delivered and I immediately called her after sitting in the chair. I explained that my feet didn't even touch the floor and the chair didn't fit. She told me to come back into the showroom and select another chair and she would "work with me" on it. She said they would take the original one back for a small restocking fee. She said she was busy with another customer (which I totally understand) and told me to take fabric home and call her to proceed with order. I called her three times on three different days and left messages but she would not return my call. I finally called and left a message that I found it hard to believe that over a four-day period, someone was too busy to make a five minute phone call. She finally returned my call the fifth day. It was then she informed me that they set their restocking fee on a "case by case" basis and that the restocking fee on my chair that cost $1,799 would be $700!!! I told her that seemed a bit extreme but she again insisted it was a case by case basis without explaining how she derived that that astronomical restocking fee. I refuse to pay this unreasonable restocking fee of almost 40% when she would place the chair on her showroom floor and resell it to another customer for the price she sold it to me for in the first place......especially when I was insistent to her I was skeptical of buying a chair I couldn't sit in for fit first. They have lost a long time customer.....she has made it clear she doesn't care. Bottom line is, she is great on the sale but if you have an issue, you may as well hang it up as she will not make anything right.

So much so, it was like navigating a narrow maze when I wandered through the store. if you've been on the hunt for that perfect statement piece, you'll likely find one here. From fun Lucite chairs to beautiful Teak tables and everything in between. Most pieces were well kept and in good condition. The shop owner wasn't friendly and he wasn't interested in answering questions. What a shame. This store has a great collection, however, it's not the only shop in town that carries vintage MCM.

It's time to upgrade some furniture (couch, tables, etc) and I just happen to be in Alexandria so I stopped at this location. My wife, daughters, and I walked all the way around the store and was not approached even though we passed a few sales reps. At first it was nice but after seeing a couple pieces we liked we started looking around to see no one in sight. As we made our way back to the front we see all the reps waiting by the door for customers (ironic since we had been there for 20-30 minutes or so). We just left there to do our shopping elsewhere. I would not recommend going to Alexandria Furniture Fair if you are actually looking to purchase something.

Legacies has a reputation of being a high end consignment store. It has some very nice pieces…read more That said, customer service and accounting accountability are lacking. I sent several photos in of rugs, picture, and houseware goods for consideration. Legacies took the rugs and picture. A rug and picture sold. I was told they had too many lamps on my first visit; the second visit they were taken. I received one check and cashed it. When I checked in person to see what else had sold, Donna told me I was to expect another check in the $40 range the first week of November. That was inaccurate. I talked to Stephanie Aldridge, the manager, who tap danced around my issue. I asked her to talk to Donna about the mistake. I asked her for an accounting of what I had sold. She thought I asked about cashing of the first check; that was not the question. I knew the first check came in and it was cashed. She made a mistake and didn't acknowledge it either. She said checks are mailed the first of the month, but to expect them when the mail delivered them. I have one more check for $15 to be delivered in December. Stephanie finally agreed to send me the accountant's statement of date, piece, cost, payment, which should have been sent as a matter of course. This is basic business. One has to keep business transactions straight and accurate. Legacies doesn't contact the customer when anything sells. You have to wait until you receive a check or ask in the store. There is also a $2 charge for every check sent, which is unnecessary, particularly with relatively small payments. I asked Stephanie to let me know when the last date was to sell the remaining rugs. She didn't answer that question. I told her I didn't want the rugs donated and that I would pick them up on the last date. She decided to simply put the rugs in her office and I could pick them up, which I will do. I have done business with a reputable consignment shop for years. They take everything I have because they know it is quality merchandise. I am hardly the only person who has had trouble dealing with Legacies. I suggest you find somewhere else to consign your items.
