When you first walk through the door, this looks like a smaller format store, but they do have a downstairs area as well (no elevator). Everything upstairs is actually well merchandised and the entire upstairs area is carpeted. I've been to so many goodwill's that just looked like they've been trashed, but not this place. Downstairs you'll find plenty of children's wear, toys, men's clothing, bedding, pillows, pictures and some furniture. Upstairs there's lots of women's clothing, housewares, books and media. There's also three dressing rooms to try things on. They use different color tags on the items for additional discounts. Definitely one of the better Goodwills to shop at as the photos below show. Selection of women's clothing was abundant on the first floor. Selection of men's clothing in size small was abundant if one looks in the basement. Children's clothing was abundant. Shoes lacked pricing labels or signage so that was a bit of a surprise and could have been handled better. Parking was scarce in the main lot so I had to park across the street. read more

We went to this Goodwill looking for some boots to use for a costume for my son & we did not find any this go round but we do score here from time to time. This Goodwill is unique as it has two levels & is a bit smaller. They tend to have some really nice stuff at this particular location & I saw a lady score a brand new looking North Face down coat, I was blown away! Just left after waiting in a long line. One register open, two other employees staring nonstop at her like they were supervising her. Probably pretending that there is no line as not to work. Those two leave. Then I ask if there is anyone else, and she calls for people. Then after a while they come back confused and open two registers. One says sarcastically "thank you for your patience" and intentional is slow at opening her register and looking around. Probably 10 employees or more work there, but they don't really care and act upset if you need something. Hire less people and give those who want to be there a better wage. Other time, I was mansplained about a blazer. He told me a blazer was a coat and even took me over to the rack to "explain" to me I was wrong and that I didn't know the difference. I couldn't get a word in and was dismissed. I ended paying but immediately asked to return it cause I was pretty upset by being spoken down to. The manager came to do a return and she set him straight and told him he was wrong. Lots of employees, but most don't want to be there. Although, some good and helpful. On a positive note: they have a good selection of books but no organization on them and I've seen an employee a few months ago put the books upside down - because you know it takes time to put them right side up. read more

This is a nice Goodwill with an awkward layout. The staff is friendly and the store is clean. I've found a few gems here over the years, like an excellent condition leather jacket. Although overall, the inventory isn't as consistently good for women's clothing as some other stores. Women's and men's clothing is upstairs on the main level, along with home wares. Downstairs is furniture, kids clothes, and media. The downstairs is hit-or-miss in terms of selection. You can't miss the second level, because there is a wide staircase in the middle of the store to go down. Parking can be tight, so try to go at off peak times. Also note that this is not a donation center. Nevertheless, consider shopping at Goodwill (and donating at another location). It's a great way to support your community! read more

Well organized, but I've never seen such an overpriced thrift store! You could go down the street to Marshalls or TJ Maxx for new items at half the price- pants were $25, a sweatshirt was $30, shoes were $25-$40, etc. defeats the purpose of thrift shopping! read more

I have found really good deals here. For example, I wanted a juicer, went to Bed Bath and Beyond and priced them. They ranged anywhere from $150 - $400 bucks. I don't think so!! Instead, I went to the Goodwill and found a brand new juicer, still in the original box, never been used for $17 bucks. I am over my juicing phase and it sits on a shelf, awaiting my next juicing phase I go through. In all seriousness, you would be totally surprised at the finds you get at the Goodwill. read more

Tonight at the Goodwill off of Columbia Pike in South Arlington, I had an unpleasant encounter with a manager named Sadie. Despite my acknowledgment and expression of gratitude for her notification that they were closing, she repeatedly insisted that I get in line without taking the time to finish inspecting an item I wished to purchase. When I did not comply with her demands, she spoke loudly about me within earshot of employees and customers before retreating to the back of the store. This behavior is unacceptable and does not align with good customer service practices. She humiliated me. read more

EMPLOYEES IN THIS SPECIFIC BRANCH HAVE INSANE ATTITUDE PROBLEMS. Went in and the clothes were okay. I came out with some pretty good stuff (hence the 2nd star), but do know that they overprice branded items. They have a 'boutique' section that holds different items -like vera wang dresses- and hike the price up to over $40! I totally get why people are starting to call them greedwill. Went to the dressing room to go try on some (stenchy smelling!) clothes, but their dressing rooms will turn you off if the people working here didnt do that already. Absolutely NO PLACE to put your belongings. Only 4 hooks, a door that DOESNT LOCK, AND THE GAP FROM THE DOOR TO THE FLOOR IS SOOO HIGH ANYONE COULD JUST BEND DOWN AND PEEP IN!!!! Customers have no choice but to dump all of the clothes on the really dusty and dirty floor! Waited for 5 minutes for a cashier since they were all too busy yapping with each other at the back. This african american employee rang up the purchase of the {white} lady infront of me nicely. When she was done, she just stood there, IGNORING ME. I had to ask her if the cashier she was tending was open and she snarkily remarks "well yeah, over here". She was so rude and abhorrent that I just wanted to forget my purchase and leave. After everything *I * had to be the one to smile and say thank you, and this insolent fool with her straight face and nasty attitude just walked away. Don't make the mistake I did and assume this is a donation center, it isn't. You'll have to go up to Glebe Road to donate there. As for the rest of the store, it is two levels with furniture, electronics, clothing, and miscellaneous. Staff are friendly and are more than willing to help you if you have any questions. I've found some great finds here like my living room set (a tv stand, end table, and coffee table from Bombay in great condition for $65 for the 3), and other random stuff. I'm telling you, don't knock Goodwill until you try it! One last note... parking is a nightmare. If you can't find a spot in the limited space lot, you're pretty screwed. read more

Why is there such a sparse selection of kitchen items in DC thrift stores? I imagine it's due to the fact that some many wonderful folks who donate their stuff never actually cook OR maybe they're such wonderful cooks that they would never part with a baking sheet or decent pan. The book selection is one of the best I've ever seen and as a bookstore and thrift store slut, I've done the rounds in many towns around this country. The prices aren't epic (i.e., cheap) but they're reasonable and it's for a good cause so no worries there. They have a wonderful selection of kids books as well. The staff is nice and helpful. The clothes, electronics, furniture are better than average. Another great area for this Goodwill is the vinyl and CD selection. This Goodwill is actually a little creepy on the outside; however, once you enter you will totally be shocked! The book selection on the bottom floor is absolutely unbelievable! There are a ton of foreign language books, although not what I was hoping to see (lots of Japanese, some Chinese, tons of French learning and reading materials, some very basic Spanish materials). The entire bottom floor is full of books, along with some furniture. The book selection was very diverse--political, law, foreign language, lit, economics, career development, children's, etc with only a very tiny section of cheesy drugstore-type reads. Also downstairs is a very sizeable record selection. I didn't look through it because it's not my thing, but I'm sure that there were some real treasures to be found. For women's clothing in size small, this Goodwill was just okay. Not the best by any means. There were lots of nice suits for middle-aged, conservative women, but nothing for a modern young professional woman. However, lots of mid-range sizes and a good selection of women's petites, which is often difficult to find. After an extended period of looking around, the best luck that I could come up with was finding a good book to read. At least I didn't leave completely empty-handed, I guess. However, let me just say that the men's suit selection was UN BE LIEVABLE!! There was an entire wall of nothing but suits. Honestly, to be a guy and not at least check this place out if you're in need of a suit would be nothing short of foolish. I did a quick quality check and, from what I saw, the vast majority of the men's suits were high quality, in like new condition, and they all appeared to have been cleaned before being dropped off. Just the same, the loads upon loads of ties were that typical not-so-stylish, very safe and conservative type. Nothing to write home about there. read more

I appreciate Goodwill Stores. "One man's trash is another man's treasure.." This store is small but it is filled to the brim with all kinds of finds! They have specials on Tuesdays and probably other specials for other days of the week. They have a huge downstairs for furniture or bigger pieces of housing goods. Upstairs, they have a ton of electronics, dishware, baskets, and so much more. Of course rows and rows of clothing goes without saying. They do have changing rooms and take credit cards which I appreciate. When I was there, people were stocking the shelves constantly. Their stock probably changes by the hour. So I came with my child here and after only 10 minutes he asked to go to the bathroom, I went to ask the lady there she said there's no bathroom for customers I told her it's for my child he's only 3 and he cannot hold it until we go somewhere else, she went to ask here manager (ya seriously!) who told me the bathroom is "hazardous" I asked her what is that supposed to mean is there any toxic material? She said no but the way to it is full of boxes and things I told her I can carry my child there and if it's safe for them as employees it'll be safe for us she said no! And said that we can go across the street (a busy two way street) to the gas station! Never ever in my life have I seen rudeness like this, anywhere I go even if they don't have bathroom for customers they make exceptions for kids, she was also a big lady and so out of shape that if it was safe for her to walk there it'll definitely will not be any less safe for us, but the big woman needed to feel like a manager, kudos for her and bad for the business that hired someone with zero customer service and humanity like her, and btw after reading a previous review this could've been a racist incident, the reviewer says "if you're not white or black you'll be treated with racism", I'm neither so it could've been the case, but to be racist with me is one thing and with my child is another, it's beyond racist and foolish, it's nazi-like! Oh and before someone uses the line "we don't allow customers to go into the bathroom because it goes through the staging area" I'd say save it! I went to other goodwills that allowed us to use the bathroom THROUGH A STAGING AREA! Some worse than others, but no one denies a child from using the bathroom, I as a mother will carry my child through that area get there be done and call it a day, then go back to pay for my shopping and everyone is happy, but with attitude and lies like what I saw today I left a cart full of shopping items and sworn I will never benefit them by purchasing or even donating to them, they're just greedy as hell, oh and they need some kinda professional adviser to put fair prices on their merchandise, childs shoes for $15! This is more a review of one of their employees than it is about the store itself. Deborah J, who greeted us as warmly as I imagine Mrs. Doubtfire would, if she wasn't a fictional character. But that's probably my point, Ms. Deborah was incredibly friendly and I've just never been to a Goodwill store where there was an employee like her. When I made my purchase, she thanked me sincerely for supporting their cause. Now, who wouldn't feel good about buying $12 Harmon Kardon speakers from a lady like that?! She's a star. A bloody good customer service star. I wish I could be as positive about the actual items in the store, though. The space is clean, for sure. But most everything in there was so expensive. If you are thrifting for clothes, this is a gold mine! Out of all the Goodwill stores in the area, this has been the best for shoe selection. I walked out with a like new pair of Cole Haan heels ($12) and a pair of Marc Jacobs flats ($10). I thumbed through brands like Zara, J Crew, Banana Republic, Loft, Seven for all Mankind etc. The store was relatively organized and the staff was pleasant. I found some great items in the women's clothing area as well as some great shoes. When I was purchasing a hat the person at the cash register gave me a sale price that apparently was over, and even though the manager told him he had to give me the sale price he tried to enter the higher price. The manager stepped in and gave me the hat for the lower price, but it was not a great interaction. I appreciated the manager in the situation. I felt like the used candles were overpriced, there were a lot and I feel like it's because they are overpriced. I love this store and the entire organization for what they do. I have no complaints on that end of things. However, customer service leaves something to be desired for and the cashiers are often incredibly slow at ringing up sales. If I have to wait nearly fifteen minutes in the line only to be the next person in line, that's a problem. Well laid-out and clean Goodwill, with a solid clothing selection and some good finds in other departments. Bustling with shoppers every time I've been here as well. Prices for home goods are higher than they should be. There's no reason a used coffee maker should cost about the same as a new one would at Target, and the $2-3 a piece glasses and dishware have dissuaded me from a few purchases. About three and 1/2 years ago, I bought a size 14 in children's creme-colored sweater [i'm 4'10" petite] and instead of being $4.97, they charged me full price "$6.76", their deal was ALL children's sweaters regardless of how the design or sewing looked was supposed to be 25% off. I am sooo appalled at their customer service like they do it on purpose, so today --last day of March-- I bought two shoes [one being rubber sandals] and was initially thrilled because I needed new clothes, n' my tough airman boots r scuffy, scruffy, lousy and old at the advertised "[entire selection of clothing garments, shoes, n' basic handbags are 25% discounted]. I feel really stirred up and angry because my driver drove me from Woodbridge and I couldn't go back to get refunded. The night manager said thAt despite my zany schizoAffective disorder n' poor sight, the goodwill store and the sales lady were not responsible for them not ringing up the sale price on both secondhand shoes. My nickname is Annaline and based on this manager who thinks i am a crook who tampered with the stickers you can tell this windy night that I am disabled with a speech impediment. Thrift stores, the place where you never know what you'll find. I decided to come in here and check it out to see what I could find for cheap. Now I've gone to plenty of Goodwills' around here so I have a fair amount of an idea of what to expect. However this place was rather dull. Now the reason as to why I say dull is because it didn't feel well...welcoming. It was just a small hoard of people gathered in there, some whom looked like they couldn't afford anything above goodwill, and some well just being there for a good deal. Now the place was very much rather messy. It's difficult to find something my size. Specially in the pants section. I'm very petite so that may be a factor as to why; however things are by color not size. Also It did contain a bit of a stench, now I don't know if its because people that were in the store didn't shower or if it's just that no one seems to care about the smell and atmosphere of the place. Either way I couldn't stand it and left after a while of walking around skimming through various sections of clothing, shoes, and bags. This was defiantly a set back, now if they've taken care of the smell I'll go back and give this place a s second chance. Until then I'm heading to the other Goodwills' further down. The upside is that it does have more space compared to other Goodwills I've seen. It looks a lot smaller than it actually is. The first floor is all about Womans' Clothing, Womans Shoes, and some house ware. The bottom floor or the "basement" is more of the other stuff, which I didn't pay much attention too. It's good that it's larger, but for me since it's nowhere near organized I'd say it's more of a drawback. Makes things a bit harder, and makes the place seem more bland than it may be. None the less I much rather return to a different Goodwill or simply a different set of Thrift Stores. I wish this place was a tad better since it's so close to me, but as long as it's like this I won't be returning. Now if your worried about customer service/ the employees here. Well they are alright I suppose. They don't really bother you. At least none talked to me. No greets not a peep. Just them speaking amongst themselves. So that's my review. This Goodwill has LOTS of books, so if that's what you're looking for, you'll like this place. I go thrifting mostly for shoes and handbags, and this place is not great for that. Whoever does the pricing here has it all wrong. Just because a pair of shoes is Cole Haan, it does not justify them being priced at $25, especially if they are at least 10 years old and worn out. Same thing for Stuart Weitzman. Yes, they are premier designers, but if they are in bad condition or not in style, why the high price? I saw a fake LV (really bad fake) being sold here for over $20. Really? Also, there is one worker here (chubby, wears a headscarf) who is really awful. Talking on her cell phone while stomping around the store and running into/over customers. I think this is a pretty good place for Goodwill store the parking can be a little bit difficult coming in and out. The store itself is fairly clean and the stock rotates as most goodwill stores do very often. I like to come here and just look around see what's going on today was extremely busy for a rainy Sunday but I guess that is a good thing too. I found a few little things for the condo nothing too exciting and paid a fair price for them, good place to just come and look. The one time I had some interaction with the staff it was very helpful and they were very nice but much like any other retail store they can be hit or miss. read more

I waited in line for 20 min as the cashier helped ONE PERSON check out. I don't know what was happening since they were speaking in another language. Then I finally get to check out he says no its all children's books 2 for $1 not adult SMALL paperbacks which I had two. I said we heard the announcement TWICE and asked for the manager ms. Russia, she came out of another few minutes of waiting and told me the same thing only kids books, BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT YOU SAID ON THE ANNOUNCEMENT. THEY SAID BOOKS and didn't specify what genre. Smaller, so less inventory- but a great household goods section, w/ the occasional past season Target merchandize still in the box. Funny, I usually hit the Glebe Rd. location first on my hunts, then jump in here on my way back home.
