I have had THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCES HERE TWICE on account of manager Kristen Whi. Who is RUDE, "Selectively" kind to people, EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL, and VERY IMPOLITE! I shop at all of the Goodwill Stores in the Washington DC Metro Area AND average 20 or more points per month and Consistently this store has proven itself Subpar! It is Disorganized, the Staff has NO idea what's going on, and the management ever since Zach left has been on a downward Spiral! I used to go there a lot until Kristen insulted me personally at the cash register and had the nerve to ask me to round up afterwards. They hold things for "some people" and out things back for others. I felt very mistreated! Save yourself the stress of digging through the trash! DO NOT GO THERE! My hands start to itch when I leave there! If you have allergies wear a mask or gloves and bring sanitizer! I CUT MY FINGER on a piece of glass when I reached down to grab something! I am an avid lover of vintage everything and eclectic pieces. One of my best kept secrets is finding gems at local Goodwill stores! I get the craft-bug every now and then and sometimes find beautiful houseware items or things I can revamp with some paint and this location is awesome for that. The book selection is huge and I always see beautiful dish/tea cup sets. This store is fairly organized. The women's section is definitely on the larger side here as it takes up about 85% of the space. There's one side of the wall primarily dedicated to women's dresses. Since this is a huge donation drop-off center, I often find a lot of goodies here. Drop-off is easy if you drive around to the back. The gentlemen are quick and help you unload your donations. I usually donate to this location every 3-4 months and have never had an issue. I'm guilty myself, but there are seriously some pre-loved (often times brand new with tags still) pieces of clothing that are barely worn and in pristine condition. If I ever need a dress for a wedding or special event, this location is usually the first place I hit up. I've found several dresses here for weddings and events. Most recently, I found a vintage Oleg Cassini Black Tie formal velvet black gown with beading and an attached wrap shawl. Besides being long on me, the dress was beautiful, fit perfectly and in tact and I snatched that baby up for $18. Online, I found two consignment boutiques selling the dress for over $700+. Other times, I've found beautiful J. Crew and BCBG dresses. Thrice, I've found Lululemon tank tops in barely worn condition and another score, Marc Jacobs flats in gently used condition. If you're a working professional not looking to spend $$$$$$ on work clothes - this place consistently feeds my work wardrobe (lots of J.Crew, Ann Taylor, Loft, Banana Republic, H&M) with blazers, skirts, button-downs, cardigans, and flowy blouses. Again, most items are in barely used to gently used condition and I damn well feel much better spending $60 on a bunch of blouses/blazers for work vs $60 on one pair of work pants. To each their own, but just sayin' ;) You just have to know what to look for. Most of the items are up to date and basic essentials. I live in yoga clothes 99% of the time outside of work anyway, so I'm super grateful Goodwill is around so I can save tons of mula and still have a fab wardrobe. Tips: I love coming in the evenings on weeknights or mid-morning during the weekdays. The weekends always get super crowded and the racks turn into a mess. The cashiers and staff here are the most friendly at this location too, so that is always a plus! Also, save your receipts! I'm not sure when this started, but last week some dresses/skirts were 1/2 off and a lady told me you could exchange items. read more

To give credit where credit is due, this location of Goodwill has gone to great lengths and innovative concepts in developing new forms of being rude to people who wish to donate. Heavy box? Not our problem. Disabled driver who needs some aid donating? Be comfortable blocking a line of other donators as they figure out that you need help after shuffling large pallets around and try to ignore you as long as possible. A couple of color laser printers along with spare toner and peripherals? dropped into cartons as if the sound they made crashing against the bottom was the voice of angels. Such a shame. I like to thing the donations will do some good, and I realize they famously do not pay well, but oh how I dread coming here. read more

Went here to drop bags of clothes off. The process was very easy -- they just took our bags and we drove off. We didn't even have to get out of the car. Also, if you are coming from Washington DC, Arlington direction. You have to make a U turn to get to this good wiill. read more

I visited this goodwill today. It literally smelled like diarrhea. While there were a decent amount of clothes, the houseware selection was so tiny. The store isn't well organized, the parking area is a nightmare, and a patron ran into me with a shopping cart. I'd pass. read more

Wow-- I went by one drizzly evening to donate boxes of CAREFULLY packed books-- the thugs who work there took the boxes, opened them up - turned them upside down then THREW the books into a hastily arranged container IN THE RAIN. Goodwill.... where do you get these IDIOTS from? Some of those books were BRAND NEW -- leather bound... FORGET IT--- I never came back after I witnessed that carnage. read more

This Goodwill has changed significantly from the last time I dropped off donations. I stopped to donate a large box of clothes. It was a heavy box that my nephew loaded for me. When I pulled up a staff member completely ignored me. I had to call out to him several times to request that he pick up the box. He displayed such an attitude and was not happy to have to walk a few feet to retrieve the box. I will select a different charity for my next donation. read more

Let me preface this review by stating I generally like Goodwill stores for finding work clothes (hate to spend money to sit on my ass all day) as well as designer pieces to rock myself or sell on eBay... the pink BCBG real fur jacket I have is a Goodwill find as well as a two piece Theory white suit. Styling! However, these finds were not at this Goodwill location (besides the point) but the point being, in general, I like Goodwill Industries. Except here. Every fucking time I come here the staff and store are unorganized and they always forget to take off the 25% on Tuesdays. Yes, the store is 25% off on Tuesdays. Add to that there's hardly any parking, this place is a shit show. The racks at this location are crowded and pricing is always *FUCKING ALWAYS!* inconsistent. Goodwill has a policy about pricing and a strict policy regarding employees shopping at the store something that is obviously not enforced (however I plan on filing a grievance after last night's experience). Anyway, be prepared for a price bait and switch if you are here shopping with employees coming by and changing the price then conveniently someone comes behind you wearing a sweatshirt over a blue Goodwill employee uniform ready to swoop it up. This mint condition authentic Coach purse went from being $8.95 to $19.95 to all of a sudden $49.95 within a matter of minutes. Then, some lady came behind me and took it and oddly only paid $8.95 for it! Shenanigans! In general, I shop at Goodwill for cheap finds, only, as they do not really support the community other than hiring crooked people, especially here. I hate this place. This place needs to get their shit together and start adhering to non-profit policies. read more

It's Halloween 2006. I'm a little down because my party plans fell through, so I head to Goodwill because I'm broke and bored. I'm a little embarrassed to be doing "real" shopping with all of the people looking for costumes, but considering I furnished my apartment through these stores in Atlanta, I know I can always find some goodies. As I'm on my way up to the checkout counter with my vintage hammered Coke glasses, I see them: 3 and a half inch delicate heels, shimmery pewter Italian leather, sexy wrap around slingback strap at the ankle. I look closer and my dreams are confirmed as the simple white and black label runs down the sole. That's right. Manolo Blahniks. I run to them, eyes on the prize, knocking down small children and elderly women on my way. As I slip them on and realize they are exactly my size, I get goosebumps and tears begin to well in my eyes. I turn my new prize over, examine the barely worn leather sole, and shriek with utter joy. $5.99. As I run to the checkout counter in complete bliss, I can't help but hug the cashier. Vowing to return once a week, I flit out of the store and proceed to call everyone I know to tell them about this miraculous day. read more

I used to really love this store. However, lately they seem to be confused about what they are. Note to Goodwill: You're a thrift shop, not a TJ Maxx! There's no reason to have some ugly Guess shoes marked at $40, or used and abused Liz Claiborne purses for $18. I suppose they've figured out that they're drawing a middle class crowd now, and want their prices to reflect that. That's fine for some of the more boutique-y thrift shops in Old Town, but I expect something different from Goodwill: I want to slog through all the crap and find an occasional treasure at a shockingly low price. Their book selection is decent--lots of barely used hardcover and softcover books. There's always a lot of merchandise moving in and out of there, so shopping at Goodwill can be a veritable treasure hunt. Sometimes you strike gold and other times you strike out. That's just how it works.. :-) The only complaint I have -- and I think it's egregious enough to knock them down 2 stars -- is the customer service or utter lack thereof. Most of the cashiers are pleasant, but forget it if you have to deal with one of the managers. I picked up an item today with a sticker that read "3.99". I was totally excited and took it to the cashier to ring up. She looked at it and said she couldn't sell it to me because it was part of a display. Mind you, it didn't look like much of a display--just a rickety shelf with junk on it. She asked if I'd like to speak to the manager and I said, "Sure. That would be fine". The manager came out in a huff as though I were disturbing her day. She very rudely told me that she got the item from one of the DC Goodwill locations and brought it with her to be part of the display. I pointed out that if there was a price tag, it looked like the item was for sale. Not only that.. there was no sign indicating that those particular items were on "display" and thus, not for sale. She started yelling at me and I was convinced she was going to pop a cap in a very unpleasant place on me. Instead of arguing (you can't argue with ghetto), I cut my losses and ventured home. If the employees at Goodwill truly want to move up in society and use Goodwill as their stepping stone to a better quality of life, they had better make sure that they do justice to whatever job they're doing. I realized this place is terrible when I donated an Ikea chair that cost $25 new, stopped in a couple weeks later and there is my chair with a $45 price tag. I also found a used motorcycle helmet for $175 (a quick google search showed it was $65 new and it was 10 years old) Sure the clothes are cheap, but the furniture prices are outrageous. but low income people rely on this place for deals. Maybe Goodwill should start to price accordingly and help out the community they claim to serve. read more

If there was a 0 Star I would definitely give a 0. It's my first time here I came here to donate portable tables and some bedding sheets. We park on the front the donation area and decide to bring some stuff to the area of operation. We were just told to put on the side a by one of the employees. We came back to to car and grab the three portable walked over there my brother was in front of me closer to the donation area and the third employee came and yelled at us saying that you guys must park in front of the area of operation. But didn't even offer to drop the table off first and then go back. The employee told us the we are breaking the law of "Sea" . My brother was upset and said "show us the law and rules and regulation! You guys have no sign stating donation to please drive around the back to drop off donation! The employee just rudely walked away on us. So we went back to the car came around and dropped the last batch. They not give us any tax deduction form or slip. Ok, so I was randomly in the area to go to the Sally's Beauty Supply next door when I decided to pop into this Goodwill. Although it has not converted me to thrift shopping for life, even I can admit that this is a pretty good little shop! It's clean. Neatly organized. Stocked with a good mix of clothing and accessories -- a few of them kinda nice. It has a wide selection of shoes and a pretty decent section filled with furniture, electronics, and household items, and another one of books, CDs, and DVDs as well. And all of the people shopping there looked so...normal. I don't mean to be cruel, I just mean that the clientele spanned all socioeconomic groups so this locale seems just as popular with all kinds of people. I picked up a couple of things for just $15 -- including a blazer in size 2P (which I have to admit is still sealed in a plastic bag in my trunk until I can get it dry-cleaned....just saying, momma didn't raise no fool!), a supposedly limited edition collector's plate commemorating President Obama's inauguration, and a wooden picture frame engraved with inspirational sayings about friendship. I'm really happy with my haul, and while I won't be running back to the store anytime soon, I would certainly stop back by if I happened to be in the area again. One little piece of advice for you -- under no circumstances should you park in the spaces for the little strip mall next door and then dart into Goodwill. You will be towed! One unlucky girl (but not me, thankfully!) found this out the hard way! read more

Why do people keep clothes they don't wear, and haven't for years, clothes that fit a past life but could instead be enjoyed by someone right now? Not surprisingly, this being the season of gratitude and kindness, the Glebe road Goodwill had a serious line of cars today, with some folks productively spending their day off clearing out their closets and ridding their place before aunt Erika arrives. This is one of the rare places where you can donate in the Our line of 10+ cars moved through in about 5 minutes, and I was greeted by a friendly and efficient team member. After handing over my donations, I got a receipt for tax deductions. Easy peasy! I prefer Goodwill over other donation-driven charities because of their emphasis on helping hard to employ people get back to work. Because of our donations, Goodwill has put almost 300,000 people back to work in 2015 alone! Anyone who is familiar with barriers to re-entry to the workforce after incarceration knows this is no small feat. It's the season for giving, and it's cold and wet. It used to be easy to donate at this location, but it's now a nightmare because they're overly rigid about their system. I came by to donate one bag of goods today, and found an enormous line of cars waiting in the donation queue (seriously, about 40 cars in front of me, moving at a snail's pace). After waiting 10 minutes, I parked, got out of the car, and started walking to the donation area with my single bag to donate. They stopped me and told me they wouldn't accept it if I didn't wait in the car line. I pointed out that it makes no sense to have a policy that makes it harder for people to donate, and that there was little incentive to wait in a line of cars for 30 minutes to donate something, and they told me "that's our policy." (Which makes me wonder if they'd refuse someone who walked there rather than driving.) If they're going to stick to that system, they need to figure out how to make the line move faster. read more

Obsessed! I stopped by a week ago after I had dropped off some donations. I browsed for about 20 minutes, and ended up buying two Anthropologie dresses for $9 each, a jacket from London Fog for $10, an Armani blazer for $12, and a pair of Citizens jeans for $8. Insanity. I've been back three times since then, and when I stopped by today, got a surprise 25% off (just because it was Tuesday). This is the second review I've ever written, but I have to let people know how incredible this place is. Take your time looking through the racks. Stop by the boutique section for higher end designers (Burberry, etc.). Incredible deals, and very nice staff. Only bad thing? Right now, their radio is set to play constant Christmas music. This is one of my favorite Goodwill locations. There are always a number of great quality items in great condition. It is a super slow checkout, and this is a crazy busy location, but you will find some real winners every single time in here. With the crowds, this location is really quite a madhouse but, if you are patient, you shall be rewarded. The housewares and home decor are also solid in here, which is a rarity. For me, it is always worth the drive. I love how many other thrift stores are within a mile or two from here as well. read more

I own a junk removal business and we are big on reuse and recycle so we donate as much as we can. And I'm not talking about 20 year old speakers or lamps with missing power cords or collections of 8-track tapes (all of which I have seen people drop off). Our rule of thumb is if we wouldn't find it nice enough for our home we certainly wouldn't think you would want it for yours. I cringe at the thought of donating items at the Goodwill at Glebe and Arlington Boulevard. The staff always seem put out that you have more than two containers of items. With so many employees milling about I thought one of two would try to help grab a few things off the truck last time we were there a few days ago. Nuh - Uh. My last visit witnessed a staff member complaining loudly to another about something that made her unhappy. All while people are trying to donate items. This is not an uncommon occurance. Thankfully, we donate at other charities and they are polar opposites. The staff at the charity on Little River Turnpike swarm the truck when we pull in to drop off items and all say thanks when we are leaving. Even staff members that were helping others will say thanks as we pass them. A couple staffers at the charity on Annadale road have tried to climb in the truck to help unload items with us. Too bad no one has taught Goodwill employees about excellent customer service. read more

I had been stopping off here frequently to donate and finally decided not to go back. About 40% of the time, the donation staff are downright rude. And I say this on behalf of the of the other customers in line as well. If they are going to have a "no furniture" policy, at least state it clearly on the website or on a sign. Also, there is no need to be rude to people who are trying to donate items. Like I said, many staff are friendly, but about 40% are downright rude (can't even bother to say thank you or offer one polite word). Have enjoyed shopping inside the store. I love Goodwill! This is probably the most underrated store across the U.S. So many treasures in there. I went this past weekend with my roommate in search for some household items. We were aiming for a toaster and some bowls. We left happily with two beautiful bowls, a serving tray, AND a toaster, however when we got home we realized the toaster did not work properly. I had a great experience there, the staff was friendly, and the area was generally clean. However, the parking lot was kind of a disaster, but that is to be expected in the location it's in. read more

This is a great thrift store loaded with clothes, shoes and household items. I got new shoes for $10! I got a dress for $8. It's easy to get to and has a parking lot and the staff are pretty friendly. I think the goods turn over a lot so you should buy it when you see it! read more

I just tried to drop off a full donation bag. It is 11:30 AM. As soon as I walked in the store a man saw me with an obvious donation bag and said "um donations are closed for today." I replied "oh... okay when will they open again?" He said tomorrow 9 AM. I said "until when?" Thinking there must be special hours this weekend. "Until it reaches 95 degrees." I understand this is an especially hot weekend but there was no need to be rude when I'm clearly trying to drop off donations. read more

I personally didn't find anything too special at this Goodwill. It was nice that they have a play area for kids because I have noticed that a lot of people who frequent thrift stores have children. The store itself seems a little small. Very limited selection of housewares. There seemed to be a decent sized selection for men. Not much or any furniture. read more

If I could give a zero I would. I bought a phone charging case here that I couldn't test in the store as it didn't have a plug. I was told at checkout that if it didn't work, I could return it. I went home and it didn't work. I went to return it the next day and they refused! They said it wasn't an electronic item so it wasn't returnable. They said it didn't matter what the check out girl said I should of asked a manager if I could return it. I don't know about you but I usually trust the confident check out person AND the return policy that says electronics are returnable. They insisted this item (that requires electricity to turn on) was not an electronic. I was willing to take store credit as I used to shop there monthly. Well no more! Don't shop here! read more

Three days ago, I dropped off a few items for donation and inquired about furniture donation. Two different people said yes, no problem, no reservation needed. They asked which day, I told them. This place is "hit or miss," I may find one or two really great items. If I have errands in the area, it is worth a visit.

I also had a really bad experience with this goodwill recently. I have several thousands of dollars worth of furniture to donate and so I called the number to schedule a furniture pick up. I got a recording saying that pick up service is temporarily suspended and to call Hunks Moving Junk because they offer a discount to people who are transporting to Goodwill. And so I called this company, which confirmed that Goodwill is a "partner," but said that they did not offer any discount for people donating to Goodwill. Then I called the store back again and told them what the recording said and informed the store that there was in fact no discount being offered and that the recording should be changed. Just to see, I called the line back again almost a week later and it had not been changed. Goodwill--for the sake of the people who you serve, get your act together. I want to help, but there is only so much aggravation one will take to give valuable stuff away. read more

I'm a thrift store junkie, but this Goodwill is a miss for me. 1. Biggest problem of the store? Parking it definitely needs to get bigger paring, I have come here a few times and it's always hard to find parking. 2. Terrible to donate here, they overprice things that should not be overpriced, found a chair priced at $35 when it was likely bought for much less, found a video game system for $30 that was in bad condition with no wires. Goodwill needs to price accordingly, not smack on random numbers for prices. Well hopefully they get their sh*t together and help the community....I'm heading back to Unique. read more

Very popular drop off site. I've never seen such a long line for donations before that it wrapped around the store. I usually try to avoid the store when I see such traffic because there is limited parking. I enjoy going to thrift shops and just browsing because you never know what you'll find. I've been here a handful of times but have not purchased anything yet. The store is well kept and seems to have a lot of selection due to all the donations. I needed a few polos and dress shirts for my new job. The men's section was organized by size and well kept. I left with half a dozen shirts, as well as a few pairs of pants. I was hoping to find a pair of shoes, but the mens section paled in comparison to the ladies section. The staff was exceptionally friendly, as the cashier talked to me for about 10 minutes when I checked out. As a bonus, I went on Tuesday, which unbeknown to me was Goodwill's Customer Appreciation Day. All of my clothes were 25% off. :) read more

Appalled. Went to donate a small table and they wouldn't.take it. "No more furniture today". Come back tomorrow. I explained that I won't be available tomorrow and will just have to throw it away. Still wouldn't take the table. I had been chastised my friends that I should donate elsewhere as most of the money they make goes towards salaries,. But I went anyway as it was close to my house. The only reason I am not selling these items is that I need to get these things out of the house today. I learned my lesson the remaining furniture and high end clothing donations will go elsewhere. read more

I went here recently but only had a half hour to spare since they were closing. I thought it was clean and I love how clothes were color-coordinated, but nothing in there really wowed me like the items at the Rockville Goodwill do. They had a nicely put together book collection. I'd give this place a 3.5. It seemed deceptively large and awesome from the outside, but it didn't take us very long to get through the store. There wasn't that much variety of items, but the plus side was that everything is super well organized, and of pretty high quality. It looks like they were selective of what they put out, and dishes and cups were well arranged. it is also a donation center. read more

Baby clothes are more expensive here than other Goodwill locations and there wasn't a good selection when I visited. Other than that, this appears to be a standard Goodwill; it looks nice on the outside and has a career center where they have job skills training. I like to see my dollars making a difference and it's encouraging to see that here. read more

My review is only for the drop of of donated goods. I have not actually been inside this store. But the parking lot always seems full so they must have a large selection of items. Each time I have made the trek out to donate items there is a line of cars waiting to unload all types of items. The line moves quicker than you expect and the employees are quick to help you unload the goodies into the giant produce bins. Keep up the good work citizens...donate quality goods to charity and not your useless junk....Thanks read more
