Goodwill - Found this fantastic find yesterday for $1.98. - Thrift Stores Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

I come here to donate things I no longer need. It's quite congested and disorganized. Basically you roll into the lot and hop in the car line. When you get to the front, you unload with the helpers. The location is pretty good - right at Arlington Blvd and Glebe. My recommendation is if you make the trip to donate here, make sure you safe up the stuff you want to donate so you can make fewer trips a year. I'll be back next time I load up on things I want to pass on. read more

I tried to donate a couple bags full of several good shoes and two bags of perfectly good kitchen supplies at approximately 5:35. The first employee I spoke with told me the drop off is done at 5:30, even though the website hours say good Will is open until six... I figure, I only have four bags and it's good stuff that I want to donate because I can't hold them any longer, so I proceeded to go around the back and ask another employee loading if I could donate these four bags real quick. He told me to go ahead and toss them in a box, once I popped my trunk and have the bags in my hand another employee approached wining to me, "Oh nooo, we closeddd. We closed though." To which I replied, "look I've got some really good stuff here I just want to donate, just spoke to your coworker and he said it was fine to throw these in the box directly in front of me." She responds "nooo no we closedddd." Then the "boss" approached and told me I couldn't donate them because they were closed... five minutes after they closed.. you'd think that working for good will they would have accepted a good donation at least for the people that really need it, but they seemed more worried about getting out of there (they had at least fifteen massive boxes filled with stuff to load, my four bags added to one of those boxes wouldn't have made a difference.) These employees are clearly lazy and working their for the wrong reasons. Hire people that are passionate about working for people that need things they can't afford, I dont know, maybe out of their GOOD WILL. Long story short, I had to dispose of my perfectly good items. read more

I've never been inside the store, this is strictly for donations* This Goodwill was amazing. I've been putting it off so long, imagining it being a hassle. But it's the furthest thing from. You pull up on the side of the building, don't have to go inside or even get out of your car. The staff takes your stuff out of your car and gives you a receipt. Boom. Done. I'll definitely be using this goodwill more often. read more

I waited until I'd had a few experiences here to write a review, and all in all it depends what time you go. Their drop off is very efficient, I've found later in the weekday evenings there's no one in line. On the weekend forget about it, line is way too long. I won't rate down for this though, because all the donations become a positive when you shop there. I have found a lot of pieces for Halloween costumes in the past and saw a fair amount of J. Crew, The Limited, and Banana Republic clothing and Cole Haan shoes last time I was there, unfortunately nothing in my size as is the luck of the draw at any thrift store. Of course mixed in with cheaper clothing. I did find a Dooney and Bourke purse for $16 though, so I'll call it a win! Most of the pricing is on point, some random shoes and paintings were overpriced in my opinion, clothing is the same as every other goodwill, but like I said luck of the draw. The one downside is I have always had to wait in line while checking out, for over 10 min, that's a bit long, open more registers please! read more

You can find some good stuff here but lately it is full of trash: empty boxes, broken items, etx. Many things are missing prices. They won't sell you anything without a price tag and won't bother to find someone who can. I had about $40 worth of stuff. I asked the price of one little cup. "Sorry-we can't sell anything without a price tag". I made an offer. He declined again. Another plastic file box I wanted had a price of $4.99. Somehow the tag fell off. He couldn't sell me that either. I told him I changed my mind on everything and walked out. They lost a sale and customer. The Salvation Army on Duke Street has better quality items anyway and a much better selection. read more

Donating at this location isn't too difficult. The staff is friendly and willing to help. However, if you want to shop after donating some items, you have to go all the way around the building again to park. As other reviewers have pointed out, parking is very limited for the size of the community. Though I personally appreciated the size of the women's clothing, it took up probably 2/3 of the store, leaving far less room for men's and children's. I didn't spend any time in housewares, though there seemed to be a good selection. In terms of women's clothing, I was a bit disappointed in the selection. Of course, Goodwill can't control what gets donated, but I've been to other Goodwills in smaller towns and the selection was much better. This could just be because the donations get split up more among the various Goodwill locations in town. I would have liked to see more variety specifically in the XL clothing. The shoe selection was huge, although I was hesitant to purchase any because most of them seemed well worn. This location could use another dressing room or two. There are currently three, one of which is designated for people with wheelchairs. When that stall opened, I was unwilling to take that space in case someone with a wheelchair came and needed it. Other people used it instead. When one of the other stalls opened, I was cut off by another customer. He was in the stall for an incredible amount of time, despite only having two pairs of pants. Again -- not necessarily Goodwill's fault, but more stalls would have been helpful in this situation. The prices weren't bad. When I walked in I saw it was "customer appreciation Tuesday" (25% clothing items) and the loudspeaker reminded customers of this throughout my time there. When I went up to pay for my items, the cashier did not address me or indicate she was ready for me to come to the counter so I went up and said, "Hi." She was otherwise courteous. When my total came up, it seemed a bit high, but I figured I had just done the math incorrectly. However, when I looked at my receipt outside, it was apparently I had not gotten the 25% off. It wasn't a huge deal -- only $3.00 or so -- but it indicates a bit of carelessness to me. Overall, it's what you'd expect from a thrift shop, maybe a few notches less. read more

I happened to visit this location after the donation center was closed on Sunday. I didn't think I'd be able to drop off my things. However, I was lucky enough to run into a great employee at the registers. I was amazed at Kristen's kindness, patience and commitment to excellent customer service - all while juggling a whole line of last minute shoppers! Most unkempt, disorganized location with a strong disgusting odor like a dozen toddlers took a dump in this store. Gag reflex at an all time high. I didn't touch anything. Everyone was in a bad mood, customer yelling at the clerk. Parking lot was chaotic with traffic backing up in the main road. Definitely couldn't get out of there quick enough so I could bathe in hand sanitizer. Won't be back. read more

I used to love shopping at the Arlington Goodwill. It was fun. Today the manager was so aggressive and insulting, though, that I can't imagine ever wanting to visit the store again. It's a shame, especially since the rest of the people who work there are very welcoming and helpful--at least on the sales side. This is the most organized Goodwill that I have ever been to. I always find great stuff there. It's location right off of Arlington Blvd. makes it a really easy drop off spot for a lot of people looking to get rid of stuff, which is great for the person that shops there. I've come here a few times after work while waiting for the bus to kill some time and although I'm not a big fan of thrift shopping I must say this goodwill is one of the best ones I've been in. I don't know if its the fact that its a nice large goodwill or that its staff are pretty nice or perhaps both. The ambiance here is great for a thrift store and its pretty well organized all around. On top of that they have pretty good selections for woman's clothing. Throughout the times I've come'd here I've always found something that peeks my interest. I've even bought a suit jacket from here as well that was in excellent condition and usually it's difficult for me to find things my size so I was amazed. The woman's clothing are organized pretty well and things were easy to find, to an extent. The shoes section was fairly well too, although I've never truly found anything worth while there I know there are some shoes that seemed pretty good there and was easy to navigate by size, this goes for both men & women's shoes. Home decor and other misc items were all together in one place and even though nothing caught my fancy, it was really well place in its own section not scattered about. Last but not least the staff were great, there was a lady at the cashier greeting everyone while I was there once and thanking them for making purchases as well as stating where proceeds where going to as well I thought that was neat. Overall this place gave me am excellent experience thrifting, specially since I rarely do it. I do want to be able to thrift more as well since it is fun and you can sometimes find neat items, so I know I'll probably go back here again if I'm close by. Another favorite thing...... and always on my list when I am on a "Scavanger hunt". Meaning that when I've got something I am searching for, this is usually number two on my list. Abercrombie and Fitch sweaters, Chicos clothing, past season Target merchandize- STILL in the box, furniture, the coolest cowboy boots ever, and many a Halloween costume fixin's.Thank you Arlingtonians, for the great taste you exibit- and your willingness to give it all away! The prices here are always dirt cheap, the selection comes and goes w/ the season. It can smell funky, but that dosn't bother me a bit. This is a great Goodwill store. They always have great selections of furniture items and accessories for women. The book selections are also growing. Probably because everyone is reverting to digital pads. Books are always better IMO. You really need to know when to visit these stores to find great items for a bargain. Yeah, they're used, I mean, vintage. Lol But they are typically still great products at affordable prices. I like that as soon as items are donated there's someone hauling them into the store and setting them up immediately for sale. I scored a great buy because of this. The donation line was pretty long this evening, but it went by quickly. People were in and out in no time. I am certainly going to be a regular at this location. read more

Goodwill at Glebe and Rt. 50 in Arlington: Have found the store itself a bit more organized than in the past; however, I will not donate any electronics/lamps to Goodwill anymore. Last time, we donated some very good condition VCR's, lamps and radios and the Goodwill staff literally TOSSED the items into a big bin on top of a lot of other electronics items that had been donated. I am sure many of these items were broken/damaged on their way into that bin. What's the point? Goodwill staff should respect the items that are being donated and remember that these items could greatly help a family in need. read more

They are oversubscribed and picky about what they take. They will refuse good items because of capacity. The clientele at the store appears to be more bargain hunters than those that really need discount secondhand goods. Service at donation center is gruff and unprofessional. read more

I have been donating to the Goodwill for many years and then today I was sadden and dismay at the response I received from the donation guy stating that the leather chairs I was donating could not be accepted as the leather was cracking. I am confused as I saw cloth chairs sitting with stains and furniture just thrown in piles outside. I know that some people come to purchase chairs like this and will recover with different fabric. I have tried several times to donate a sofa sleeper for pickup and got a no we don't accept as it has stains. the furniture was in good condition and could be resued. I was moving that is why I was giving it away. So my option to day was to drive and sit the two chairs by my garbage dumpster. So sad. read more

I nearly always find something to take home- the brands are great and they usually have a discount going on any given day of the week. I only regret that I live further away now. This is an incredibly well-organized store with some very nice, high-quality merchandise (alongside some not-so-great stuff) I didn't have any luck with the shoes, but did find a very nice Ann Taylor blazer for work and a funky, emerald green velvet blazer, each for about $5. They had a somewhat limited selection of furniture, and the day I was there most of it had "already sold" tickets on it. There are extensive shelves of housewares and glassware. The staff members I interacted with were super jolly and nice. I returned a week later to drop some stuff off, and it was the easiest donation I ever made (and I've been donating to Goodwill for a decade). Unfortunately, the line moved so fast that I handed over the wrong box and gave away a coffee maker that was destined for storage, while keeping a box of books I don't want anymore. Rats! read more

The following review discusses my experiences donating to this Goodwill. I have never purchased items here. I've had good experiences with this Goodwill. In March this year, I dropped off a ton of my stuff after I organized/decluttered my place. Prior to my trip, I anticipated the donation process to be more complex. I visited the DC Goodwill website and printed and filled out out the tax forms. Turns out, all I needed for my donation was a list of the things I donated and their estimated value. The only thing you need to do at Goodwill is drive to the loading dock* behind the store and give the employees your bags/boxes of stuff. Pro: consistently nice items from the wealthy area surrounding. Con: the staff are extremely incompetent and slow. The line to check out always takes 30 minutes. For example, two employees pointed out a customer who had stuffed clothing items into her belly to look like she was pregnant. The customer was clearly stealing and the employees didn't do anything about it. The employees just laughed. Meanwhile, I was waiting in a line to pay for a good 30 minutes and so many people cut in front of me( employees didn't care). Next time maybe I'll steal- since they don't prosecute shoplifters! read more

This is one of the better Goodwills in the area. I love it and have gotten some great things there. Stuff is in better shape, and less picked-over, than other Goodwills. I strongly recommend for the up-and-coming, suit-wearing set. read more

I was shopping here to just look around and possibly purchase something. I have been to the Goodwill in Alexandria and Fairfax area. The prices they have in this Arlington Goodwill is RIDICULOUSLY OVERPRICED!!! They price their items at such a value that it is even more in market price. Also with my experience today Thursday June 15th, 2017 there was this 25% off promo in anything in the show case (glass case) so I took 2 games (1 game for $2.99 and the other for $39.99). Besides the games my girlfriend wanted a blazer for $6.99 and I found a BEAT UP (poor condition) basketball for $0.99 so when I got to the register one employee didn't know how to apply the 25% off until an Indian lady who always wears a thin scarf around her neck (long time employee). The Indian lady didn't want to include the 25% off towards the $2.99 game as she kept saying its already cheap BUT it was inside the SHOWCASE!! I did not agree so I said that I not right. She applied it after an unnecessary consideration the transaction went through just fine and the new employee asked if we wanted to round up. I said no not today and the Indian lady burst out saying NO YOU HAVE TO ROUND UP, she teared the $0.99 price tag off the basketball and said you are getting cheap stuff and she DEMANDED I round it up. My girlfriend started stating that we are just college students and does not even have a job why demand to round up the total when everything here is already priced so much?! I felt sorry for the store and the employees so we just decided to round up... This issue should not happen at all towards the customers as what the Indian lady and the store for that matter is extremely unprofessional and incompetent. Do something about this issue and that Indian lady should BE FIRED! read more

I've donated a lot at this location, but I never ventured inside. I was shopping for children's books for the arrival of my neice this October. There was a significantly large book section with 4-5 rows dedicated to children's/board books. They ranged between 99 cents to $3. I spent about $18 on 10 books. Well worth it, I'll be shopping again soon! read more

This Good will has a pretty good location but the challenge is the queue to drop your goods off. But hey...look at me complaining about not having to leave your car to drop off donated items. All in all, this Good will is okay. The workers there do not pay much attention to what you are bringing All they do is hand you a slip and ask you to drive away. read more

I went on a Monday night to donate after calling to check the donating hours. I got there before the stated 8:30 only to be told that they close off donations at 8:00, "otherwise people would be donating until 9:00." It is fine if they want to cut off donations at 8:00, however, they should indicate this on the voice message as to prevent people like me from making a special 30 min. useless trip there and back. The worker was not rude exactly, but he wasn't very helpful. "We open again at 9:00am." Not even a "sorry". I have donated and shopped at many goodwills, but I will not be coming back to this one and my bags of clothing donations went elsewhere. read more

I frequent the GoodWill in Arlington to shop with a manager by the name of Monifa. She's always pleasant and greats you with a sincere smile. She treats patrons like they are family. What a joys it is to find someone as personable as she is. After shopping at least 7 GoodWill stores in the surrounding area, none surpass Monifa. Selection here is the best. Who ever saw people lined up in their cars to drop off items? What a true blessing and I would like thank everyone that donates here. This location and other Arlington Goodwill locations have gone downhill in the last 1-2 years. Prices have skyrocketed and most items are ridiculously overpriced . Often times an item is priced higher than what you would pay for it new at the store. I often eye-roll when I pick up an item and look at the price tag before putting it back on the rack or shelf. I feel bad for the people who don't know that they are getting scammed with their prices. Further, the discount days by the color of the price tag have never applied to items I have purchased (and I purchase a variety of items there, not just one category of items). The quality of the selection has also dwindled. The racks used to be jam-packed with stuff and now the store seems half empty half the time I go (yet the donation area outside is overflowing with goods). Would really love to see a change in your pricing practices and keep in mind that you are supposed to be a "charitable organization." read more

I have a love/hate relationship with this Goodwill store. I love Goodwill. It's easy to donate items to support their job training, and donating items and shopping at Goodwill helps support the environment. These things I love. At its best, in addition to these good things, Goodwill also allows customers to get a good value. That's where this Goodwill store falls short. They mark items up if the person sorting the donations recognizes the label as a designer label. This leads to inconsistencies - marked up Ann Taylor pants, but regular Goodwill pricing for real designer label stuff. They call these marked-up items "boutique" items, and the pricing seems to be entirely arbitrary. I saw an Old Navy cardigan marked up to $16.98 (from the normal $4.98), which was probably about the price you would have paid for the sweater new at Old Navy. While I totally understand higher prices for better goods to raise more money for a very good cause, the inconsistencies in pricing bothers me because it doesn't really have a rhyme or reason and I never know how something will be priced. read more
