I got two loaves of sliced homemade gourmet Tuscan garlic bread for sandwiches. They had areas with clearance prices, new clothes, and select items. I didn't find any deals there and didn't want any of those items. Regular prices items were great finds. I got clay pots for plants $1 each. A new puzzle box still sealed for $4. An oracle deck in mint condition for $2. A large black velvet scarf for $2. Paperback books for 50 cents. A travel jewelry case for $2. They were all in good condition or new. The parking lot can be overcrowded due to the Islamic Center of worship beside it. Traffic can be very busy there as well. People looking for designer deals may not like this place, because they price them at fair not low prices. Book prices are the best at this thrift store if you like buying books. Vintage & collector books are priced fairly and NOT at a low price. This is a place I would consider going to again for plant pots and the books, as well as the baked bread. Overall, five stars for this thrift store.

Updating because the last two times I was there I was treated so poorly. On a Saturday my kid asked…read moreto stop in on our way home. I told her yes but we had to be quick. I knew I was going in 15 minutes before closing but I was going to honor the time. I work retail and have worked thrift stores so I know what it's like to want to leave on time. I was not greeted with a hello or hi. I was greeted with a very curt and rude "we close in 15 minutes". Fine. Whatever. But within the next five minutes I got 2 more time reminders. At this point my kid had stuff she wanted but it did not meet the $5 minimum sale requirement for debit/credit. So I was trying to find something else quickly so we could go. However I wasnt going to buy something just to buy it and toss it. That's wasteful. It was still 10 minutes before close and they were just staring at me. I told my kid that we would just come back and get stuff another day. The lady with the short red hair said very loudly "sorry kiddo mom doesn't have any money". Which let me tell you pissed me off. I had the money and consistently spend $25-$50 a trip when they have a fully stocked store. I just couldn't find enough junk to meet their minimum this time. Also I find that to be incredibly rude and insensitive since their whole organization is to help people in poverty. I mean, I've waited in line while customers have counted out pennies to fill the gap of what their lcac vouchers wont cover. So way to be incredibly insensitive on top of rude. Theres no excuse for that. I just walked out at that point. Took a few weeks before I came back in because I was so upset. This time I came in with two big boxes of donations because I was tired of trying to sell stuff online. Two big boxes of name brand plus size clothes - some with tags. I got zero help as well as zero hello or hi or anything. No hey can we hold the door for you? No can we help? No thank you. Nothing At this point I dont know if they are just assuming its junk because of my appearance (tattoos, piercings) or if they just dont really care to be polite and offer good customer service anymore. I dont know what's going on here but there used to be a pretty solid crew of nice ladies working here and now it's nothing but a bunch of rude women. My donations and business will be going elsewhere.

They have a huge shoe/ jewelry/ bag/ accessories section right when you walk in that is amazing! It's really well organized and the largest accessories section I've seen at a Unique Thrift. They have tons and tons of clothing racks! I found some real gems in including a 100% linen shirt and three pairs of shorts. Each item is priced differently and the items are sorted by category and size. These thrift stores give you a 20% off coupon if you donate something. They also have 25% discount days on Mondays and Thursdays, so those days are pretty busy.

I am so disappointed with shopping at Unique. The prices at this thrift store have become…read moreastronomical. Art is priced as if you are shopping at an upscale gallery. They have mediocre art priced as high as $89.99. They treat the art like it is junk; it is crammed on the shelves and it is stacked haphazardly on the floor. The bric-a-brac is not much better. While they offer a diverse array of tchotchkes they too are exorbitantly overpriced and they are crammed together on the shelves, and have a junky appearance. I commiserated with a customer who wanted to buy a small night light with Blessed mother and the Christ child. it was made in China and I would estimate the value to be around $5; they had it priced at $29.99. They were selling a small Willow tree angel for $14.99; you can get a new one at the Hallmark store in its box for that price or less. I also went into the aisle where they had random picture frames. The aisle was crammed with picture frames which were haphazardly arranged. visually it was unappealing and the art frames on the lower shelf were stacked in a way that they were inaccessible. So here is the dilemma; this is a junky thrift shop that is trying to pretend that it is a boutique and it is not happening. I am all in favor of supporting charity thrift stores but this store is unfairly pricing these donated goods such that the people who depend on thrift shopping to add special things or necessities cannot afford them. Shame on this store. Register your disdain by not buying this merchandise. Also provide feedback to alert others.

Husband found awesome Timberland shoes, 80s shades, and a vintage Star Wars T-shirt. Though most clothes are quite junky, prices are fantastic if you can unearth something cool. Some items with large visible stains, so maybe they don't get rid of much. There was a sign that said voucher customers can only get clothes from 2nd floor. This told me 2 things: 1) they are probably the main clothing provider for their emergency shelter clients 2) newer stuff is downstairs. Clerks were pleasant. Friendly vibe, though they didn't say much to us. One was very upbeat with colorful description when a person asked what was being served at the soup kitchen that evening. Her enthusiasm made me happy.

*Pre-COVID Review* I…read morehave scored some great finds here, but other reviewers are correct in stating that the owner (Eleanor) is sketchy. Yes, I suspect that she does cut the tag off of newer items in order to pass them off as vintage or luxury. And yes, I have been followed around the store and been treated with suspicion during some visits to the store. One visit in particular stands out to me. I received an email stating that everything in the store was 20% off. So I arrived to check out the sale and, as someone who manages retail, I recognize the associate's (blonde woman who said she was a costumer designer from southern VA) relentless customer service as a tactic to prevent people from stealing. Like, she wouldn't leave me alone to try on the clothes and make my decisions in peace - this is an anti theft tactic. The idea is that the potential thief will be discouraged from stealing if the associate provides suffocating customer service: following the individual closely and being overly attentive in the hopes that it will make them think twice about skipping out with merch. Literally, she was with me the ENTIRE hour I was in there to try on vintage trousers. She had this uncomfortable, concerned look in between talking to me. I really resent this because I used to work up the street, and would come in pretty regularly to check out new items and make purchases. Eleanor even offered to give me a discount since she said she liked my figure, and since I could fit a lot of the smaller items in her store. So the service is bizarrely hot and cold here. In regards to duping customers with fake vintage items. She tried to tell me that velveteen skater dress was an original Betsy Jonson. HAHA! She had multiples of the dress and the quality of the velveteen sucked, in addition to the fact that there was no tag on it. It didn't have the quality or construction worthy of a handmade original, and Betsey Johnson isn't that hot anymore so it was a pretty dated dupe. I suggest learning of some new, coveted designers if you're going to try to impress or rip off someone I'm their 20s. My mom is a vintage and antique dealer, and we're from San Francisco: I grew up shopping vintage so I know ehat to look for. Instead of this place, I suggest visiting Mercedes Bien Vintage in Adam's Morgan (neighborhood in DC). She is the longest operating vintage dealer in DC, has fab finds, and a younger clientele (so stuff you actually want to wear vs victorian skirts...)! She also doesn't discriminate against her customers, so go check her out!

It actually inspired me to volunteer to sort clothes at their location in NW for Martha's Table. The organizers of this store know how to put together a successful thrift store. (I want to help them with their continued success.) The store was clean. They had a clear pricing structure. They had designer and well known labels on their clothes in good to excellent condition. I picked up a couple of items from Jones New York, Talbots and New York and Company. The only things the store is lacking is a dressing room and a larger home goods section (although what they did offer for home goods appeared functional unlike other thrift stores that make you sort through junk for treasure). Overall, a great experience in a really interesting and developing area of the city (the historic part is becoming an artsy community with the Hive, Honfluer Gallery and the Anacostia Arts Center) which is makes this type of store perfectly place.
