I just got an email from Goodrich Chimney offering discounted services to get ready for fall. I realized I never wrote a review on the work I contracted with them to complete. Bought a house and the chimney was in disrepair. They suggested I put a sleeve in the chimney stack instead of repairing / replacing the bricks that could allow embers to gain access to other parts of the house. Could be a huge issue if the house were to burn right? The sleeve was inserted, but now the smoke from the fireplace would fill the room. When I asked for them to come and fix it, they just told me that I would have to start the fire directly in the middle of the fireplace. That didn't work, so I stopped using the fireplace for a bit of time. Later, I went to a different company. They did an inspection and noted several issues with the sleeve installed by Goodrich. Once you see the photos below, it makes complete sense why the smoke was coming back into the house! Why didn't they cut the excess length off the sleeve and allow the smoke to draft completely. Even so, the diameter of the sleeve was also questionable - so everything they did was just money down the drain. I absolutely cannot recommend this company and wish I had read Yelp before hiring them. read more

I don't want to trash them too much but my experience was marginal. The tech was certainly congenial but the followup was poor. His opinion on the problem of my gas fireplace was the ignitor. In removing it to take to the shop and order the replacement he broke the piece. He openly admitted this and indicated its frail status was confirmatory in a sense. He took the piece with him. Subsequently no one got back to me. I communicated again and was told they couldn't get the part. I found it elsewhere but not the original manufacture. They would put it in but no guarantee. So you can see the service could have been better but I will leave it at that. I have no animosity but I would not use this service again unless I had no choice. I hope they find a way to improve this part. The people seem nice enough. read more

Service was good, until I needed warranty support. I've been having ongoing issues with them since. I had an electric fireplace installed with them in Boulder, it was working fine, until it wasn't. When I put in for warranty support, they came over to work on it but tried to charge me and claimed I was too late for the warranty. But then I showed them it was within the year warranty and they hand waved around that. Then, when the repairs they tried didn't work, they gave me the run around. On Oct 17th I hired Goodrich Chimney to clean my wood stove pipe. Last year I my stove was completely cleaned, all new gaskets and a new catalytic converter installed, so my stove was in excellent working order, I just wanted the stack cleaned for safety. Tyler arrived at approx. 8:30am, he spent approx. 45 minutes working on cleaning the pipe the next evening I built a fire in the stove, once it reached the correct temperature I tried to engage the bypass damper for the catalytic converter. The handle for the damper only moved approx. 3/4 of the distance to engage the cat., I tried repeatedly but could not close the damper. I texted Goodrich explaining my situation to which Samantha responded that she would come by the next day morning/early afternoon but if she can make it in the morning would possibly 8am work? I informed her I would be home after 1pm, the next day at 12pm she texted me stating she could be at my home in 15-30 minutes. Again I explained I would be home after 1pm, to which she stated that she was headed to the mountains and would check with me tomorrow and see if I was available. That was the last I heard from Goodrich Chimney, I waited almost 3 weeks to see if I would hear from her again, I haven't had ANY communication from her since she failed to show up on the 19th or 20th. I decided to see if the damper was caught on something so i reached up into the stove to try to pull the damper down. What I found was that the debris form the pipe were piled up all around the damper, blocking it from closing, I proceeded to clean it out with a shop vac. So I had a perfectly working stove before Tyler worked on it and a non-functioning stove after he left. The entire purpose of hiring them was to CLEAN the stove pipe, not to make a bigger mess. I paid $299 only to finish the job myself, thankfully I was able to fix it myself, many people would not or could not have done it themselves. People make mistakes, it's how you handle it matters. Clearly there is no accountability with Goodrich and that starts from the very top. I certainly won't be using them again, whether its to clean my current stove or to convert it to gas. I don't recommend Goodrich Chimney for any work and I will pass along my experience on my local Fb pages since that is how I found Goodrich. One last note, Tyler needs to learn some manners when in customer homes, within less then 5 minutes in my home he suddenly started walking towards me and said "I gotta use the bathroom" and plowed past me into the restroom. He did this 2x in the short 45 minutes he was here, both times never asking to use it and leaving the seat up both times. This wouldn't be a deal beaker but it's a fine example of a lack of professionalism and respect for the customers home and privacy. read more

I'm not one for writing reviews, but after having Goodrich out this morning I knew I had to. They were prompt, communicative, respectful of COVID procedures and cleanliness. In fact, it was one of the owner's sons that came to do the work. He was able to easily diagnose, clean, and fix both my fireplaces. On top of that he made some recommendations around fire safety with respect to materials the previous owner used. I really appreciated the fact he wasn't trying to upsell me on anything and even told me it wasn't worth my $ to do something. When I find a solid business I stick with them. We reached out to this company to get a quote for fireplace conversion services. While the tech that came out was on time and appeared knowledgeable, we never heard anything again. No quote, no follow up. Even after we reached out a week later to inquire about the quote, they said they would get it to us and never did. It's now been a month and still nothing. Any update would have been fine - even if it was to tell us they needed more time to work on our quote. We certainly feel like we were just taken for their $129 flat rate estimate with no intention of doing the work. I am in the process of selling my home and the home inspector noticed that my water heater was not properly vented to my 115 year old chimney and that my chimney was not capped. Matt was able to come out on short notice to look at the problems and got me a quote by the next morning. He even was able to schedule the work quickly so that I could proceed with my planned closing date. His crew was on time and courteous and did great work with the chimney liner, cap, and venting and thoroughly cleaned up inside and out when they were done. In addition, Matt helped to coordinate a plumber to come by and fix a vent from the sewage ejector so that I didn't have to find another contractor on such short notice. I cannot say enough good things about Goodrich Chimney Services. This is a family owned and operated business. We wanted to replace an old wood burning insert with a new, high efficiency gas insert. The first step was a cleaning, then measurements and estimates. The Goodrich crew walked us through options, ordered the new stove, and kept us posted the entire time. And then, through no fault of Goodrich, FedEx misplaced the new stove in transit. The owners Chris and Matt birddogged the lost stove with both the manufacturer and FedEx. When it looked like the unit might be lost for good, they quickly ordered a new one at their own expense to make sure we would have the stove installed as soon as possible. I should add some context here, we were originally scheduled out 5 or 6 weeks or so, but Goodrich called with a calendar update and moved us up a couple of weeks, which was really cool to begin with. Once FedEx lost the stove it would have been easy for Goodrich to say, "well, since you were not originally scheduled until the end of September we will just play out the Fed Ex investigation and see where it ends up." No, they immediately ordered a back up stove and kept their earlier install date, which was a super professional thing to do. In the end, the lost stove turned up, which was great and the crew got the new stove installed. However, unfortunately, the unit was about 1/4" too wide to allow for full seating in the existing brick fireplace. The install guys could not address the problem the day of the install. About 1 hour after they left, the owner, Chris, called and scheduled a time for him to come out and grind the brick to accommodate the stove. We were scheduled for 9:00 am, he called day of and asked if we were ready an hour or so earlier, which was fantastic. He showed up, ground the masonry and snugged the unit beautifully into the fireplace. Throughout the process they were professional, communicative, clean, and conscientious. After a bunch of research online and finding out who locally dealt with Valor gas inserts, I stopped by these guys and got a decent quote so gave them my business. The crew came out on time and the install was a breeze tho the front facia was on backorder but they hooked everything else up and showed me how to operate the controls. When the heavy cast iron front finally showed up they offered to install but it was only a few screws so I did it myself. We moved into a new home several months ago and shortly thereafter our gas fireplace stopped working. We had no previous experience with this type of appliance and I came across Goodrich through online reviews. They presented themselves as a small family owned business and had solid reviews. We booked an appointment and we're so glad we did. Customer service isn't what it was years ago at many businesses, but that's certainly not the case here. From the initial phone conversation to the moment the Technician left our home they were very responsive, professional and friendly. Zach arrived within our scheduled appointment window and couldn't have been more professional and flexible. He was glad to comply with my wife's "no shoes in the house" and had our fireplace issue diagnosed and resolved within 30 minutes. He went through a complete service cleaning everything up had it looking like a new installation. My wife, who was working from home, is hyper sensitive to noise and after she became a bit nervous with the first hissing of the vacuum he offered to clean everything up outside so not to bother her. She had said it was fine and just wanted some advanced notice before he used the vacuum, but he went above and beyond by taking the initiative for the sake of a customer. The two guys who came out were very nice and pleasant. BUT i am angry, they charged 90 to look at a stove that really all they did was take a picture of (they call that an inspection fee). We have 3 pellet stoves and the one downstairs is not working at all but they wouldn't even look to see what may be wrong. They PUSH and I mean push to get gas into the house as of course that is more money in the door for them. They were suppose to order a part for our other stove and this was over a week ago. They are now stone walling us, we consider this a serious safely issue -- it involves GAS, which could deeply effect people's LIVES and HOMES. I have clear justifications for this poor review of a wood-stove installation by Goodrich Chimney Services. Here are the facts: 1) When installing a chimney cap one is supposed to apply a bead of silicone around the chimney cap joint. Goodrich Chimney glued it on with LOTS of silicone and it was Very Difficult to remove for servicing! The silicone also partially blocked the flow of smoke as it melted and flowed into the inner-pipe. 2) The outside chimney was mounted with inadequate hardware. (Instead of 2 inch long 5/16" lag bolts as recommended, these guys used 1.5 inch long #10 self-tapping screws w/ rubber washers.) 3) The double wall black chimney pipe was 6 inches closer to our wood paneling than it should have been to make code. 4) They tried to drive screws directly into the single wall adapter without pre-drilling holes and instead of penetrating the stainless steel inner-pipe and taking hold, two of the screws just pushed against and malformed it. This important connection (inside our house) was being held by one screw instead of three and the volume of the pipe was significantly reduced. 5) Goodrich used telescoping black pipe between stove top and elbow rather than a stove top adapter and solid double wall piping as recommended by the manufacturer. To top it all off, one of the installers tossed a cigarette butt on our driveway before he left! We had another installer come and fix some of the problems we discovered. We fixed most of the rest ourselves. This was an appalling and dangerous installation and I wish I'd listened to my partner and hired the other guy! That's the Doctor who fixed the problems in the end. read more

Fantastic service. Zach (sp?) and Pablo came to our house last week for 2 issues. The biggest was water getting into the house when it rained and we just could not figure out how, and wondered about the chimney. Secondly we needed our gas fireplace serviced as we'd never had that done before. Well Zach did not give up until he found the source of the water leakage which did turn out to be chimney related. He not only climbed the exterior of the (2 story) house to look at the chimney, he then climbed up into our unfinished attic and found exactly where the water was coming in. He then had to go back up on the roof to do the repair. Several days later it rained heavily and, no more water leaking in! Pablo serviced the fireplace and it looks and works like new. We could not have been happier with the outcome and are so grateful the water problem is solved. We decided to replace the faux river rock facing on our fireplace. Chris was able to meet us late in the afternoon on Friday. He took a look and stated he would email the bid the next morning. The bid was received promptly and was reasonable. We wanted the job done as soon as possible. Timing is everything and lucky for me, due to a delay on one of their other jobs, they were able to do my job right away. We met with Chris at the brick yard on Monday, and he assisted us in selecting our stone. Too bad it wasn't in stock. Not to worry though, he drove to Pueblo to pick it up... on Tuesday. He sent me a text every day to show the progress. The job was completed in 4 days and it looks absolutely fantastically amazing!!! We are extremely picky people and expected the job to be done right without excuses or exception. Chris and his team delivered. We couldn't be happier. I hadn't used my fireplace in 25 years since I bought my house. I finally called Goodrich Chimney up to have my chimney inspected and cleaned. They came, did a thorough inspection and told me that I didn't even need to have it cleaned! They also spoke to me at length about improvements I could do in the future for making better use of heat as well as possibly installing a gas fireplace. The technicians who came out on a Friday (Tim and another) were very helpful. We needed repair work on the our chimney (35-feet tall) due to a contained fire. They explained everything, gave us two alternatives (repair or install insert) and said to expect two separate estimates (one for each alternative) by Tuesday. I made a point of telling them to include a lift to reach the top of the chimney if necessary along with anything else (ie mason work, repair work, new pipe, whatever). I also made a point of asking them to tell me immediately if they didn't want to work on such a high chimney so we wouldn't waste time waiting. They assured me this was not the case. One technician said the owner (his dad) may need to come out in order to determine exactly what was needed to complete the work. This never happened. Wed a.m. came with no estimate and I called and was told it would be emailed immediately. Still didn't get it so I stopped by what the technicians called a showroom (more a storefront storage room). The girl who I had spoken to about the estimate was there and asked another technician (Matt) to look over pictures, etc. He admitted he hadn't looked at anything prior to then. I asked the girl why she said she had sent an estimate if the "expert" had not even looked at it and she said she always sent them out "half-way through the process" (yes, because an insurance company wants to work with half-baked estimates that don't include all the information). Matt's manner was condescending. Needless to say I was frustrated and became angry b/c they were unwilling to complete an estimate. I asked a number of times for an estimate that covers fixing the fireplace back to working order. They said they couldn't b/c they didn't know exactly what would need repair farther down the chimney. The previous technicians had mentioned that some stone would need to be removed in the middle in order to fix the pipe inside the fireplace - okay - add this to the estimate - maybe do this in two places - I don't care, just get it fixed! Couldn't an estimate be produced with a worse case scenario? Or, how about adding an exclusion clause stating that further inspection of the structure would be necessary to assess all needed repairs but include what they already knew was necessary? Something!!! All I left with was the report from the original technicians. I did not even get the pictures taken which I feel should be included with the report since we spent $159 on the scope inspection. Is it too much to ask for a company to provide a professional estimate in a professional manner or be honest with the customer that the job is beyond their ability, or whatever reason they don't want to complete the work? Bad, bad, bad experience!!!! Update: my husband called and asked for any pictures associated with our inspection. Company sent six pictures - four of which were pictures of our house, entire fireplace exterior, our fireplace shroud and the top of our fireplace exterior. Only 2 pictures had anything to do with the actual chimney fire/interior/damage - thanks a lot! read more

The top of our chimney was crumbling, bricks had been damaged by hail, water was leaking into our ceiling below. Goodrich came in and put a new cement cap on it in one day. I have a pellet stove and it quit working at the worse time, Sunday afternoon , so I called Goodrich Chimney made a appointment which was the following Tuesday between 12 and 5 pm , so in the mean time I went on line and went to just ask .com the tech walked me thru several steps and told me what to do to test the stove , the computer was out, so I cleaned and did all the work, so I keep the appointment the tech showed up and the two techs did everything I did, So they took the computer to inglenook in conifer and tested it on their stove, same problem they said, so they come back and tell me it would take 13 days to get a new computer and $320. 00 more or they could get it sooner if I paid more money because they had to get it from a competitor plus the service call, oh by the way the service call was $ 210.00 plus another $ 25.00 to check the computer , so now I am at $ 555.00 , so I went on line and found Mountain view Hearths Products found the computer for $203.00 and free shipping, I paid to rush the shipping another $25.00 for over night had it the next day , I felt the service call was just a waste of time the tech did not know what how to diagnose the problem, he keep talking to a tech from manufacture and was just a waste of my time and money , Will Never use them or refer to anyone , to the owner , Send someone that know what hey are doing , not learning !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
